13:1 다윗이 천부장과 백부장 곧 모든 지휘관과 더불어 의논하고

13:2 다윗이 이스라엘의 온 회중에게 이르되 만일 너희가 좋게 여기고 또 우리의 하나님 여호와께로 말미암았으면 우리가 이스라엘 온 땅에 남아 있는 우리 형제와 또 초원이 딸린 성읍에 사는 제사장과 레위 사람에게 그들을 보내 그들을 우리에게로 모이게 하고

13:3 우리가 우리 하나님의 궤를 우리에게로 옮겨오자 사울 때에는 우리가 궤 앞에서 묻지 아니하였느니라 하매

13:4 뭇 백성의 눈이 이 일을 좋게 여기므로 온 회중이 그대로 행하겠다 한지라

Bringing Back the Ark

1 David conferred with each of his officers, the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds. 2 He then said to the whole assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you and if it is the will of the Lord our God, let us send word far and wide to the rest of our people throughout the territories of Israel, and also to the priests and Levites who are with them in their towns and pasturelands, to come and join us. 3 Let us bring the ark of our God back to us, for we did not inquire of it during the reign of Saul.” 4 The whole assembly agreed to do this, because it seemed right to all the people.

13:5 이에 다윗이 애굽의 시홀 시내에서부터 하맛 어귀까지 온 이스라엘을 불러모으고 기럇여아림에서부터 하나님의 궤를 메어오고자 할새

13:6 다윗이 온 이스라엘을 거느리고 바알라 곧 유다에 속한 기럇여아림에 올라가서 여호와 하나님의 궤를 메어오려 하니 이는 여호와께서 두 그룹 사이에 계시므로 그러한 이름으로 일컬음을 받았더라

5 So David assembled all Israel, from the Shihor River in Egypt to Lebo Hamath, to bring the ark of God from Kiriath Jearim. 6 David and all Israel went to Baalah of Judah (Kiriath Jearim) to bring up from there the ark of God the Lord, who is enthroned between the cherubim—the ark that is called by the Name.

13:7 하나님의 궤를 새 수레에 싣고 아비나답의 집세서 나오는데 웃사와 아히오는 수레를 몰며

13:8 다윗과 이스라엘 온 무리는 하나님 앞에서 힘을 다하여 뛰놀며 노래하며 수금과 비파와 소고와 제금과 나팔로 연주하니라

7 They moved the ark of God from Abinadab’s house on a new cart, with Uzzah and Ahio guiding it. 8 David and all the Israelites were celebrating with all their might before God, with songs and with harps, lyres, timbrels, cymbals and trumpets.

            온 이스라엘의 용사들이 다윗에게 모였습니다. 사울이 죽자 온 이스라엘이 헤브론이라는 도시에서 다윗을 왕으로 옹립하려 모였습니다. 이제 다윗은 하나님께서 선지자 사무엘을 통하여 말씀하신 것처럼 이스라엘의 왕이 되었습니다. 모든 군사들이 한마음이 되어 먹고 마시며 즐거워하였습니다. 어제의 말씀에 이스라엘 가운데에 기쁨이 있었다고 말하고 있습니다. 온 이스라엘 뿐만 아니라 다윗에게는 그야말로 인생에서 가장 기쁜 날이었을 것입니다. 오랜 도망자 생활이 끝나고 도저히 이루어질 것만 같지 않았던 하나님의 약속이 성취되었습니다. 이제 그는 왕입니다. 모든 권력과 부귀영화가 그의 눈 앞에 있습니다. 그런데 바로 그때 그는 모두가 생각하지 못하던 일을 하자고 제시합니다. 그것은 바로 하나님의 궤를 자신들에게로 옮겨오는 것이었습니다. 그는 하나님의 약속이 이루어졌을 때에 그 기쁨에 취해있는 것이 아니라 공동체 안에 진정한 우선 순위를 회복하려 했습니다. 그것은 바로 예배의 회복이었습니다. 오늘은 “진정한 우선 순위의 회복”이라는 제목으로 말씀을 나누기 원합니다.

Introduction

The warriors of all Israel gathered to David. Following Saul’s death, all Israel assembled in the city of Hebron to crown David as king. David had now become the king of Israel, exactly as God had declared through the prophet Samuel. The entire army joined in one heart, eating, drinking, and rejoicing together. Great joy filled the hearts of Israel.

This was undoubtedly the happiest day of David's life. His long, exhausting years as a fugitive were over, and the promise of God—which had once seemed impossible—was finally fulfilled. He was now king, with all power, wealth, and honor lying right before his eyes.

Yet at that very moment, David proposed something nobody expected: to bring the Ark of God back to them. Rather than becoming intoxicated by the joy of fulfilled promises, he sought to restore the true priority within the community—the restoration of worship.

Today, I would like to share a message titled: “Restoring True Priorities.”

            먼저 1-3절입니다. 다윗은 어제 말씀에서 다루었던 용사들과, 또 백성의 지도자들과 의논할 뿐만 아니라 이스라엘 모든 백성에게 하나님의 궤를 가져오는 것에 대해 제안합니다. 이것은 다윗이 왕으로서의 여정을 예배 중심의 공동체를 이루는것부터 시작하는 것을 보여줍니다. 이는 사울의 리더십과는 완전히 반대되는 것이지요. 며칠 전 본문이었던 10:13-14은 사울의 죽음의 원인을 이렇게 말하고 있습니다. “사울이 죽은 것은 여호와께 범죄하였기 때문이라 그가 여호와의 말씀을 지키지 아니하고 또 신접한 자에게 가르치기를 청하고 여호와께 묻지 아니하였으므로 여호와께서 그를 죽이시고” 그렇다면 오늘 말씀 3절은 다윗이 백성들에게 어떻게 말하였다고 하고 있습니까? 함께 읽어보겠습니다. “우리가 우리 하나님의 궤를 우리에게로 옮겨오자. 사울 때에는 우리가 궤 앞에서 묻지 아니하였느니라 하매” 분명 사울 때에는 궤 앞에서 묻지 않았다라고 말하고 있습니다. 이것이 다윗과 사울의 차이점입니다. 다윗은 왕으로 즉위하자마자 가장 먼저 공동체 안에 바로 잡아야 할 우선순위를 보았습니다. 그것은 이전까지 아무도 생각하지 못했던 여호와의 궤를 다시 그들의 중심으로 옮겨오는 것이었습니다. 여러분 언약궤가 언제 블레셋에게 빼앗겼다가 돌아왔습니까? 아직 사무엘이 사사가 되기도 전인 엘리 제사장 때였습니다. 그 뒤로 사무엘이 사사가 되고 사울이 왕이 되어 40년을 다스렸습니다. 그런데 그 오랜 시간동안 아무도 언약궤를 그들의 삶의 중심으로 다시 모셔올 생각을 하지 못했던 것입니다. 그런데 다윗은 자신이 가장 높은 곳에 올라섰을 때에 자신이 아닌 하나님이 어디에 계신가를 생각했습니다. 그는 자신의 우선순위만을 재정비했던 것이 아닙니다. 그 생각을 리더들과  백성들 모두와 함께 나눔으로 이스라엘 공동체 전체가 예배가 우선되는 삶을 회복하기를 원했습니다. 그래서 공동체 모두가 진정한 우선 순위를 회복 할 수 있도록 말입니다.

1. A Worship-Centered Leadership (vv. 1–3)

First, let us look at verses 1–3. David consulted not only with his commanders and leaders but proposed to the whole assembly of Israel to bring back the Ark of God. This reveals that David began his journey as king by establishing a worship-centered community—a stark contrast to the leadership of Saul.

First Chronicles 10:13–14 explains the cause of Saul’s death:

“Saul died because he was unfaithful to the LORD; he did not keep the word of the LORD and even consulted a medium for guidance, and did not inquire of the LORD. So the LORD put him to death...”

In contrast, what does David say to the people in verse 3?

“Let us bring the ark of our God back to us, for we did not inquire of it during the reign of Saul.”

Here lies the pivotal difference between David and Saul. As soon as David ascended the throne, he recognized the foundational priority that needed to be realigned within the nation: bringing the Ark of the LORD back to the center of their lives—something no one had thought to do for decades.

Consider this: When was the Ark of the Covenant captured by the Philistines and returned? It was during the time of the priest Eli, before Samuel became a judge. After that, Samuel served as judge, and Saul reigned as king for forty years. Throughout all those long years, no one had thought to bring the Ark back to the center of their national life.

Yet, when David reached the pinnacle of human power, he did not dwell on his own position; he pondered where God was. He did not merely realign his personal priorities—he shared this vision with all the leaders and the entire congregation, longing for the whole community of Israel to restore a life centered on worship and true priorities.

            이렇게 예배의 회복을 자신들의 우선 순위로 놓자고 제안하는 다윗의 말에 사람들은 긍정적으로 반응합니다. 4절에 ‘뭇 백성, 온 회중’ 이라는 표현이 반복해서 나옵니다. 5절을 보니 “애굽의 시홀 시내에서부터 하맛어귀까지 온 이스라엘을 불러 모으고” 라는 표현이 나옵니다. 사실 이전까지 구약에서 이스라엘 전체를 표현할 때는 보통 “단에서 브엘세바까지” 라는 표현을 사용합니다. 그러면 5절의 이 표현은 무엇인가? 이는 아직 정복되지 않은 땅의 범위를 포함하는 더 큰 이스라엘에 대한 표현입니다. 즉 다윗의 제안에 이스라엘 전체가 반응했다라는 것을 강조하고 있는 것입니다. 6절에 보니 비슷한 표현이 또 나옵니다. “다윗이 온 이스라엘을 거느리고 … 여호와 하나님의 궤를 메어오려하니” 온 이스라엘, 이스라엘 전체가 다윗과 함께합니다. 이것이 “진정한 우선 순위를 회복하자, 예배를 회복하자, 하나님을 우리의 중심에 다시 모셔오자” 라는 말을 들었을 때에 성도가 보여야할 태도인 것입니다. 그들도 마찬가지였습니다. 그들이 자신들의 중심에 모셔올 그 궤를 6절은 이렇게 말하고 있습니다. “이는 여호와께서 두 그룹 사이에 계시므로 그러한 이름으로 일컬음을 받았더라” 그 궤가 여호와 하나님의 궤라고 일컬음을 받는 것은 바로 여호와께서 그 궤에 계시기 때문이었습니다. 출애굽기 25:22은 하나님께서 바로 그 언약궤 위 두 그룹 사이에서 이스라엘 자손을 위하여 명령할 모든 일을 말씀하시겠다고 약속하셨습니다. 그래서 이들이 언약궤를 그들 가운데로 옮겨 오는 것은 이들이 말한 ‘궤 앞에서 묻다’ 처럼 단순히 필요할 때에 하나님을 찾겠다는 뜻이 아닙니다. 이는 삶의 생각과 가치, 판단과 결정을 하나님께 묻고 하나님의 뜻을 행하겠다는 결심입니다. 생각해 보십시오. 다윗은 자신이 왕이면서도 왕이신 하나님의 보좌를 자신의 위에, 자신의 중심에 모시겠다고 하는 것입니다. 왕이된 자신의 통치를 선포하는 것이 아니라 자신을 낮추고 진정한 왕이신 하나님의 통치를 따르겠다는 것입니다. 바로 그것이 하나님의 궤를 우리의 마음에 들이는 것이며 그것이 우리가 회복해야할 진정한 우선순위인 것입니다.

2. Yielding to the True King (vv. 4–7)

The people responded with great enthusiasm to David’s proposal to make the restoration of worship their top priority. Verse 4 repeatedly uses terms like "the whole assembly" and "all the people."

In verse 5, Scripture notes: “So David assembled all Israel, from the Shihor River in Egypt to Lebo Hamath...” Traditionally in the Old Testament, the entirety of Israel is described as "from Dan to Beersheba." Why then does verse 5 use this specific boundary? It describes a broader, expanded vision of Israel that includes land not yet fully conquered. It emphasizes that the entirety of the nation responded wholeheartedly to David’s call.

Verse 6 reiterates this unity: “David and all Israel went up... to bring up from there the ark of God the LORD, who is enthroned between the cherubim—the ark that is called by the Name.”

All Israel stood united with David. This is precisely the posture believers should assume when called to: "Restore true priorities! Restore worship! Place God at the center of our lives!"

Verse 6 describes the Ark as being called by the Name of the LORD because God Himself is enthroned above it, between the cherubim. In Exodus 25:22, God promised that He would meet with His people and give them His commandments from above the atonement cover, between the two cherubim on the Ark.

Therefore, bringing the Ark to the center of their community was not merely about seeking God occasionally when they needed help. It represented a solemn commitment to submit their thoughts, values, judgments, and decisions to God and to obey His sovereign will.

Consider this: though David was the crowned king, he chose to place the throne of God—the true King—above himself and at the center of his realm. Rather than proclaiming his own reign, he humbled himself to yield to the reign of the Sovereign God. That is what it truly means to welcome the Ark of God into our hearts, and that is the true priority we must restore.

            말씀을 맺습니다. 8절은 다윗과 이스라엘 온 무리가 여호와의 궤를 그들 가운데에 들일 때에 하나님 앞에서 힘을 다하여 뛰놀며 노래하였다고 전하고 있습니다. 진정한 우선 순위의 회복은 이렇게 기쁘고 즐거운 것입니다. 선하신 하나님의 통치가 우리의 삶 가운데 이루어지는 것입니다. 우리가 예배의 회복, 하늘나라의 다스리심을 우선 할 때에 우리는 그 기쁨을 누리게 될 것입니다. 그 우선순위의 회복이 여러분의 삶에 이루어지기를 주님의 이름으로 축원합니다.

Conclusion

Verse 8 records that as David and all Israel brought the Ark of God into their midst, they “were celebrating with all their might before God, with songs and with harps, lyres, timbrels, cymbals and trumpets.”

The restoration of true priorities brings this kind of overwhelming joy and gladness. It is the experience of God’s good and sovereign rule taking root in our lives. When we prioritize the restoration of worship and yield to the reign of the Kingdom of God, we will fully experience that divine joy.

I pray in the name of the Lord that this restoration of true priorities takes place in your life today. Amen.
