14      인자야 너는 또 예언하여 곡에게 이르기를 주 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하시기를 내 백성 이스라엘이 평안히 거주하는 날에 네가 어찌 그것을 알지 못하겠느냐

15      네가 네 고국 땅 북쪽 끝에서 많은 백성 곧 다 말을 탄 큰 무리와 능한 군대와 함께 오되

16      구름이 땅을 덮음 같이 내 백성 이스라엘을 치러 오리라 곡아 끝 날에 내가 너를 이끌어다가 내 땅을 치게 하리니 이는 내가 너로 말미암아 이방 사람의 눈 앞에서 내 거룩함을 나타내어 그들이 다 나를 알게 하려 함이라

17      주 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하셨느니라 내가 옛적에 내 종 이스라엘 선지자들을 통하여 말한 사람이 네가 아니냐 그들이 그 때에 여러 해 동안 예언하기를 내가 너를 이끌어다가 그들을 치게 하리라

18      그 날에 곡이 이스라엘 땅을 치러 오면 내 노여움이 내 얼굴에 나타나리라 주 여호와의 말씀이니라

19      내가 질투와 맹렬한 노여움으로 말하였거니와 그 날에 큰 지진이 이스라엘 땅에 일어나서

20      바다의 고기들과 공중의 새들과 들의 짐승들과 땅에 기는 모든 벌레와 지면에 있는 모든 사람이 내 앞에서 떨 것이며 모든 산이 무너지며 절벽이 떨어지며 모든 성벽이 땅에 무너지리라

21      주 여호와의 말씀이니라 내가 내 모든 산 중에서 그를 칠 칼을 부르리니 각 사람이 칼로 그 형제를 칠 것이며

22      내가 또 전염병과 피로 그를 심판하며 쏟아지는 폭우와 큰 우박덩이와 불과 유황으로 그와 그 모든 무리와 그와 함께 있는 많은 백성에게 비를 내리듯 하리라

23      이같이 내가 여러 나라의 눈에 내 위대함과 내 거룩함을 나타내어 나를 알게 하리니 내가 여호와인 줄을 그들이 알리라

¹⁴ “Therefore, son of man, prophesy, and say to Gog, Thus says the Lord God: On that day when my people Israel are dwelling securely, will you not know it? ¹⁵ You will come from your place out of the uttermost parts of the north, you and many peoples with you, all of them riding on horses, a great host, a mighty army. ¹⁶ You will come up against my people Israel, like a cloud covering the land. In the latter days I will bring you against my land, that the nations may know me, when through you, O Gog, I vindicate my holiness before their eyes.

¹⁷ “Thus says the Lord God: Are you he of whom I spoke in former days by my servants the prophets of Israel, who in those days prophesied for years that I would bring you against them? ¹⁸ But on that day, the day that Gog shall come against the land of Israel, declares the Lord God, my wrath will be roused in my anger. ¹⁹ For in my jealousy and in my blazing wrath I declare, On that day there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel. ²⁰ The fish of the sea and the birds of the heavens and the beasts of the field and all creeping things that creep on the ground, and all the people who are on the face of the earth, shall quake at my presence. And the mountains shall be thrown down, and the cliffs shall fall, and every wall shall tumble to the ground. ²¹ I will summon a sword against Gog on all my mountains, declares the Lord God. Every man’s sword will be against his brother. ²² With pestilence and bloodshed I will enter into judgment with him, and I will rain upon him and his hordes and the many peoples who are with him torrential rains and hailstones, fire and sulfur. ²³ So I will show my greatness and my holiness and make myself known in the eyes of many nations. Then they will know that I am the Lord.

지난 2019년에 개봉한 봉준호 감독의 일곱 번째 장편 영화 ‘기생충’은 한국 영화 최초로 황금종려상과 아카데미 작품상을 수상하는 기염을 토했습니다. 흥행에도 매우 성공하여 한국 영화 역대 매출액 1위를 달성하고 북미에서도 개봉을 해서 저도 미국 영화관에서 처음 본 한국영화가 바로 이 ‘기생충’이었습니다. 그런데 이 영화 ‘기생충’이 흥행하면서 유행했던 대사가 하나 있습니다. 그것은 바로 배우 송강호가 열연한 아버지 ‘기택’이 아들 ‘기우’에게 하는 대사인데요. “역시 너는 계획이 다 있구나!” 입니다. 이 대사는 영화 안에서의 맥락 뿐만 아니라 대사 그 자체만으로도 엄청난 유행을 하게 되어 방송이나 예능등에서 다양한 상황에서 자주 사용을 하는 것을 보았습니다. 그래서 저도 오늘은 이 대사를 좀 빌려볼까 합니다. 자, 드디어 칼에서 벗어나서 포로 생활을 마치고 고국으로 돌아온 이스라엘입니다. 이들은 성벽이나 문빗장도 없이 너무나 평안히 거주하고 있습니다. 그런데 갑자기 곡을 필두로 한 거대한 제국의 군대들이 쳐들어오고 있는 것입니다. 그들에게 잊고 있었던 전쟁과 포로생활의 트라우마가 파도처럼 몰려올 것입니다. 그러나 바로 그때, 하나님이 그들을 대적하시며 그들을 심판하십니다. 알고보니, 이 모든 상황이 다 하나님의 계획이었던 것입니다. 오늘은 “역시, 하나님은 계획이 다 있으시다”라는 제목으로 말씀을 나누기 원합니다.

Introduction: "You Have a Plan After All!"

Director Bong Joon-ho's seventh feature film, Parasite, released in 2019, made history by becoming the first Korean film to win both the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival and the Academy Award for Best Picture. It enjoyed immense commercial success, becoming the highest-grossing Korean film of all time, and was widely released across North America. In fact, Parasite was the very first Korean movie I ever watched in an American movie theater.

As the movie became a global sensation, one particular line of dialogue became an iconic pop-culture catchphrase. It is spoken by the father, Ki-taek (played brilliantly by actor Song Kang-ho), to his son, Ki-woo: "Ah, so you have a plan after all!" ("You always have a plan!")

This line became a massive hit beyond the context of the movie. People started quoting it across television, comedy shows, and daily life whenever someone revealed a clever scheme.

Today, I would like to borrow this famous phrase.

Consider the situation of Israel in today's passage: having finally escaped the sword and ended their long exile, the people have returned to their homeland. They are dwelling in total peace—without city walls, gates, or crossbars. But suddenly, a massive imperial army led by Gog comes charging toward them! The forgotten trauma of war and captivity comes rushing back like a violent wave.

Yet at that exact moment, God Himself steps into the arena to confront and judge their enemies. As it turns out, this entire scenario was directed by God. Today, I want to share a message titled: "As Expected, God Has a Plan All Along."

                첫번째, 대적의 침공에는 하나님의 계획이 있으셨습니다. 14절에서 하나님께서는 에스겔에게 곡에게 예언하라고 명령하십니다. 그때에 곡은 하나님의 백성 이스라엘이 평안하게 거주하는 것을 반드시 보게 될 것이라고 말씀하십니다. 어제 말씀인 11절을 보니 “성벽도 없고 문이나 빗장이 없어도 염려없이 다 평안히 거주하는 백성” 이라고 표현하고 있습니다. 태평성대가 바로 이런 것이겠지요. 그러나 이렇게 무방비하게 평안해 보이는 모습은 마치 최적의 먹잇감처럼 보였을 것입니다. 15-16절은 곡의 군대가 북방 끝에서 무서운 기세로 몰려오는 장면을 생생히 묘사합니다. 전통적으로 이스라엘을 위협하는 세력들은 주로 북방에서 내려왔지요. 15절을 보니 “북쪽 끝에서 많은 백성 곧 다 말을 탄 큰 무리,” 즉 엄청난 수의 기병대가 몰려오고 있습니다. 16절, 구름이 땅을 덮는 것처럼 이스라엘을 치러 옵니다. 이 장면만 놓고 보면 이스라엘은 바람 앞에 등불입니다. 이런 곡의 대군 앞에서 이스라엘은 아무런 대비가 되어있지 않습니다. 학살이 일어나기 직전입니다. 그런데 16절 하반절은 완전히 반대되는 말씀을 하십니다. 곡이 스스로 결정한 침략계획은 사실 하나님의 영광을 드러내기 위한 도구라는 것입니다. 하나님께서 말씀하십니다. 16절 하반절, 함께 읽겠습니다. “내가 너를 이끌어다가 내 땅을 치게 하리니 이는 내가 너로 말미암아 이방 사람의 눈 앞에서 내 거룩함을 나타내어 그들이 다 나를 알게 하려 함이라.”  악의 세력은 스스로 결정해서 행동한다고 착각하지만, 하나님은 그들의 탐욕마저도 당신의 주권 아래에 두시는 분이신 것입니다.

1. God Had a Plan Even in the Enemy's Invasion

First, there was a divine plan behind the enemy's invasion.

In verse 14, God commands Ezekiel to prophesy to Gog. God says that Gog will notice how His people Israel are dwelling in peaceful security. Yesterday’s passage in verse 11 described them as:

“...a land of unwalled villages; I will fall upon those who are at rest, that dwell securely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having no bars or gates.”

This was a time of complete peace. However, to a ruthless conqueror, this defenseless, peaceful population looked like prime prey.

Verses 15 and 16 vividly describe Gog’s army charging down from the far north with terrifying momentum. Historically, the forces that threatened Israel almost always invaded from the north. Verse 15 notes: "You will come from your place in the far north, you and many nations with you, all of them riding on horses, a great horde, a mighty army."

In verse 16, they advance like a storm cloud covering the land. From a human perspective, Israel is like a flickering candle in a hurricane—unprepared and facing imminent slaughter before Gog's vast forces.

Yet the latter half of verse 16 turns the entire narrative upside down. What Gog believed to be his own independent plan of conquest was actually God's instrument to reveal His glory!

Let us read the end of verse 16 together:

“In days to come, Gog, I will bring you against my land, so that the nations may know me when I am proved holy through you before their eyes.”

The forces of evil delude themselves into thinking they act purely on their own accord, but God places even their greed under His absolute sovereignty.

                두번째, 하나님께서는 대적들 뿐만 아니라 모든 역사를 계획하시는 분이십니다. 하나님의 계획은 이미 옛적부터 세워져있었습니다. 우리는 17절의 말씀으로 그것을 알 수 있지요. “내가 옛적에 내 종 이스라엘 선지자들을 통하여” 말씀하셨다고 합니다. “그들이 그때에 여러 해 동안 예언”하였다고 하십니다. 뭐라고요? “내가 너를 끌어다가 그들을 치게 하리라.” 선지자들은 북방에서 내려오는 강대한 적에 대해 끊임없이 경고해 왔습니다. 아모스, 이사야, 스바냐, 스가랴 등의 선지자등을 통해 예언해오셨다는 것입니다. 무슨 뜻입니까? 하나님은 역시 계획이 다 있으셨던 것입니다. 언제부터? 옛적부터. 모든 역사를 주관하시는 분이 하나님이신것입니다. 우리는 우리의 눈 앞에서 일어나는 일에만 집중할 수 밖에 없습니다. 그들도 그들의 야망이나 이스라엘의 무방비함 때문에 일어난 일로 생각할지 모르지만 이는 모두 하나님의 계획, 즉, 그분의 절대 주권 아래에서 일어나는 일이라는 것입니다. 모든 것은 하나님의 계획 아래에 있는 것이지요.

2. God Plans Not Only the Enemy's Moves, But All of History

Second, God is the One who ordains not just the actions of enemies, but the entire course of human history.

God’s plan was established long ago. We see this clearly in verse 17:

“Are you not the one I spoke of in former days by my servants the prophets of Israel?”

God reminds them that his prophets had prophesied for many years, saying: "I will bring you against them."

Through prophets like Amos, Isaiah, Zephaniah, and Zechariah, God had continually warned of a powerful enemy coming from the north. What does this reveal? God had a plan all along! From ancient times, God has been the sovereign ruler of history.

Human beings naturally focus only on the immediate circumstances unfolding before their eyes. Gog and his allies may have believed this invasion was driven solely by their own military ambition or Israel's lack of defenses. Yet everything unfolded strictly according to God’s sovereign plan. Nothing catches Him by surprise.

               세번째, 그 계획의 목적은 하나님이 여호와인 줄을 알게 하게 위함입니다. 18절은 “그날에”라는 말씀으로 시작합니다. ‘하나님의 노여움이 하나님의 얼굴에 나타나리라’ 라고 하십니다. 19절, “내가 질투와 맹렬한 노여움으로 말하였다”고 하시면서 이들에게 심판을 선포하십니다. 하나님의 질투와 노여움의 심판이 19-22절까지 상세히 기록되어 있습니다. 이스라엘 땅에 천지가 진동하듯 지진이 일어날 것이며 모든 피조물이 하나님 앞에서 떨게 될 것입니다. 또한 이들이 의지하던 모든 산과 절벽과 성벽이 무너지며 이들 안에서는 서로 죽이는 내분이 일어나고 각종 전염병과 천재지변이 일어나 하늘에서 우박과 유황과 불의 비가 내릴 것입니다. 마치 요한 계시록의 최후의 심판을 떠올리게 합니다. 이 말씀은 두가지를 보여줍니다. 바로 대적에 대한 완전한 심판과 언약 백성에 대한 완전한 보호입니다. 무장하지 않은 이스라엘은 그저 평안히 거주할 뿐입니다. 그들이 스스로 칼을 들고 나가서 싸우지 않습니다. 오직 하나님께서 전적으로 이들을 위하여 대신 싸워주십니다. 당신의 백성을 향한 하나님의 질투, 노여움이 그들을 심판할 것입니다. 그래서 이제 당신의 백성을 완전히 모든 위협으로부터 평안하게 하실 것입니다. 그때에 이스라엘 백성과 모든 열방은 하나님의 위대하심과 거룩하심을 알게 될 것입니다. 오직 하나님만이 참으로 여호와이심을 알리는 것. 그것이 바로 하나님의 계획의 목적이었던 것입니다. 23절의 말씀을 함께 읽어보겠습니다. “이같이 내가 여러 나라의 눈에 내 위대함과 내 거룩함을 나타내어 나를 알게 하리니 내가 여호와인 줄을 그들이 알리라”

3. The Purpose of the Plan: That All May Know He Is the LORD

Third, the ultimate purpose of God's plan is for everyone to know that He alone is the LORD (Yahweh).

Verse 18 begins with the solemn phrase: "On that day..." God declares that His wrath will boil over in His face. Verse 19 continues: "In my zeal and fiery wrath I declare..." as He pronounces judgment upon the invaders.

This judgment of divine zeal and fiery wrath is detailed in verses 19 through 22:

• A catastrophic earthquake will shatter the land of Israel, causing all creation to tremble before God.

• Mountains, cliffs, and city walls will crumble.

• Panic and internal strife will break out among the enemy forces as they turn their swords against one another.

• Plagues, torrential rain, massive hailstones, fire, and burning sulfur will rain down from heaven.

This apocalyptic scene strongly foreshadows the final judgment in the Book of Revelation.

This passage demonstrates two profound truths: complete judgment upon the enemy, and complete protection for God's covenant people.

Notice that unarmed Israel simply dwells in peace; they do not even have to go out into battle. God Himself fights entirely on their behalf! God's zeal and holy anger on behalf of His people will destroy the enemy, granting His children complete, permanent safety from every threat.

In that moment, Israel and all the nations will witness the greatness and holiness of God. The ultimate purpose of His plan is to make it known to the whole world that He alone is the true God.

Let us read verse 23 together:

“And so I will show my greatness and my holiness, and I will make myself known in the sight of many nations. Then they will know that I am the LORD.”

                말씀을 맺습니다. 역시 하나님은 계획이 다 있으십니다. 이 예언을 통하여 하나님께서는 포로지에서 무력감을 느끼고 있을 유다 백성들에게 고난을 이길 힘을 주십니다. 이들이 지금 가장 두려워하는 제국들이 아니라 오직 하나님만이 세상의 진정한 통치자임을 보여주십니다. 이들이 겪고 있는 고난마저도 모두 하나님의 계획 아래에 있습니다. 그리고 하나님의 계획은 당신의 백성을 향한 질투와 맹렬한 노여움으로 가득 차 있었습니다. 그 하나님의 열심이 당신의 백성을 보호하실 것이며 그들을 위하여 일하실 것입니다. 그때에 우리는 하나님이 진정 위대한 분이시라는 것과 하나님의 거룩하심을 알게 되고 오직 하나님만이 여호와이심을 알게 될 것입니다. 기도하시겠습니다.

Conclusion

As expected, God has a plan all along!

Through this prophecy, God imparted strength and courage to the exiled people of Judah who were feeling utterly helpless. He demonstrated that the true ruler of this world is not the terrifying earthly empires they feared, but the Lord God Almighty.

Even the trials and suffering we experience reside within God's master plan—a plan filled with His passionate love and zeal for His people. That divine passion protects us and works on our behalf. In due time, we will behold His greatness, recognize His holiness, and confess that He alone is the LORD.
