93:1 여호와께서 다스리시니 스스로 권위를 입으셨도다 여호와께서 능력의 옷을 입으시며 띠를 띠셨으므로 세계도 견고히 서서 흔들리지 아니하는도다

93:2 주의 보좌는 예로부터 견고히 섰으며 주는 영원부터 계셨나이다

1 The Lord reigns, he is robed in majesty;

    the Lord is robed in majesty and armed with strength;

    indeed, the world is established, firm and secure.

2 Your throne was established long ago;

    you are from all eternity.

93:3 여호와여 큰 물이 소리를 높였고 큰 물이 그 소리를 높였으니 큰 물이 그 물결을 높이나이다

93:4 높이 계신 여호와의 능력은 많은 물 소리와 바다의 큰 파도보다 크니이다

3 The seas have lifted up, Lord,

    the seas have lifted up their voice;

    the seas have lifted up their pounding waves.

4 Mightier than the thunder of the great waters,

    mightier than the breakers of the sea—

    the Lord on high is mighty.

93:5 여호와여 주의 증거들이 매우 확실하고 거룩함이 주의 집에 합당하니 여호와는 영원무궁하시리이다

5 Your statutes, Lord, stand firm;

    holiness adorns your house

    for endless days.

여러분, 우리는 불안한 세상 속에서 살아가고 있습니다. 우리가 다 컨트롤하지 못하는 현실 속 큰 벽에 막힌 듯 절망스러울 때도 있습니다. 요즘 여러분의 마음을 가장 크게 흔들고 있는 문제 상황이 있습니까? 오늘 시편 저자는 이런 위기를 ‘큰물’에 비유했는데요. 이렇게 큰물이 나를 덮쳐올 때, 여러분은 그 물에 이리저리 휩싸이십니까? 아니면 그 뒤에 그 큰물을 통제하시는 하나님을 보십니까? 오늘 본문은 5절밖에 되지 않지만 하나님께서 찬양을 받기에 얼마나 합당한 분이신지를 우리에게 아주 잘 말해주고 있습니다.

We are living in an anxious world. At times, we feel despair as though we are blocked by a great wall in a reality we cannot control. Is there a situation in your life these days that is shaking your heart the most? In today’s Psalm, the writer compares such crises to “great waters.” When these overwhelming waters come rushing over you, are you swept around by them? Or do you see the God who stands behind them and controls them? Although today’s passage is only five verses long, it clearly shows how worthy God is of our praise.

먼저 우리의 하나님은 영원하고 완전한 통치를 하시는 분입니다. (1-2절)

1절에서 “여호와께서 다스리시니”라고 시작되는 말씀은 태초부터 이미 확립된 여호와의 통치 상태를 공식적으로 선언하는 표현입니다. 이어서 “스스로 권위를 입으셨도다. 여호와께서 능력의 옷을 입으시며 띠를 띠셨으므로”라는 표현은 우리에게 시각적으로 하나님의 절대적인 주권을 표현합니다. 왕이신 하나님의 권위와 능력은 다른 어떠한 증거나 외부에서 증명되는 것이 아닙니다. 마치 왕이 화려한 왕복을 입고 있는 그 자체에서 왕의 권위가 드러내듯이, 하나님의 존재 자체에서 그의 권위와 능력을 발견할 수 있습니다. 그리고 “세계도 견고히 서서 흔들리지 아니하는도다”라며 하나님의 강력한 통치 능력을 보여줍니다. 사실 기근이나 자연재해 같은 초자연적인 현상으로 많은 무고한 자들이 피해를 입고 죽을 때 사람들은 말하죠. “신은 어디에 있습니까?” 마치 하나님이 방관하시거나 아니면 능력이 없어 이런 비극을 막지 못한다고 착각합니다. 시편 기자는 절대 그렇지 않음을 확신합니다. 하나님의 강력한 통치 아래에 온 세상은 견고히 서서 흔들리지 않았음을 믿습니다.

First, our God reigns with eternal and perfect sovereignty (vv. 1–2).

The phrase in verse 1, “The Lord reigns,” is a formal declaration that His rule has already been established from the beginning. The following expression, “He is robed in majesty; the Lord is robed in majesty and armed with strength,” visually portrays God’s absolute authority. God’s authority and power as King are not proven by external evidence. Just as a king’s authority is evident simply by the royal robes he wears, God’s authority and power are revealed in His very being. The verse continues, “the world is firmly established; it cannot be moved,” showing His mighty rule. When innocent people suffer or die from famine or natural disasters, people often ask, “Where is God?” They assume that God is either indifferent or powerless to stop such tragedies. But the psalmist is convinced that this is not true. Under God’s powerful reign, the world stands firm and unshaken.

다음으로 우리의 하나님은 그 어떤 혼돈과 위협보다 크신 분입니다. (3-4절)

그러나 사실 여러분, 우리의 이런 믿음이 언제 가장 크게 흔들립니까? 옆 나라 어느 지역에 큰 홍수가 와서 많은 사람들이 피해를 입었다는 소식을 들었을 때 하나님의 완전한 통치를 의심합니까? 아니면 결정적으로 내 삶에 하나님보다 더 크게 느껴지는 문제가 닥쳤을 때 더 흔들립니까? 후자가 더 가깝겠죠. 막상 질병의 두려움, 관계의 갈등, 경제적 압박이 현실을 조여올 때, 우리는 두려워집니다. 이를 시편 기자는 “여호와여 큰물이 소리를 높였고 큰물이 그 소리를 높였으니 큰물이 그 물결을 높이나이다(3절)” 라고 표현했습니다. ‘큰물’의 반복 세 번은 그 큰물이 파도가 되어 점점 더 거세게, 점점 더 높이 올라 그 압도적인 위협과 두려움을 우리에게 강력하게 보여줍니다. 그러나 이때 시편 기자는 외칩니다. “여호와여!” 그는 이 혼란스럽고 두려운 상황 가운데 하나님을 붙잡습니다. 그리고 그 두려운 상황을 정확히 보고합니다. 그가 이렇게 할 수 있는 힘은 어디에서 왔습니까? 4절 “높이 계신 여호와의 능력은 많은 물 소리와 바다의 큰 파도보다 크니이다” 이 말씀을 온 마음 다해 믿고 붙잡기 때문입니다.

Second, our God is greater than any chaos or threat (vv. 3–4).

When is our faith most shaken? Is it when we hear about devastating floods affecting people in another country? Or is it when a problem arises in our own lives that feels bigger than God? Most likely, it is the latter. When fear of illness, relational conflict, or financial pressure closes in on us, we become afraid. The psalmist describes this by saying, “The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their pounding waves” (v. 3). The threefold repetition of “floods” emphasizes how the waters grow stronger and higher, powerfully conveying overwhelming fear and threat. Yet in that moment, the psalmist cries out, “O Lord!” In the midst of chaos and fear, he clings to God and honestly reports the terrifying situation. Where does he find the strength to do this? From verse 4: “Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea—the Lord on high is mighty.” He believes and holds onto this truth with all his heart.

그렇습니다. 우리는 연약해서 두려운 현실에 순간 의심이 들어오고 마음에 평화를 빼앗깁니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 우리는 하나님께 나아가야 합니다. 우리의 믿음이 흔들릴 때 다시 우리를 잡아 줄 말씀을 붙잡아야 합니다. 성경 속 하나님의 선하심과 신실하심에 대한 증거들이 차고 넘치도록 나와 있습니다. 5절이 우리의 고백이 되길 원합니다. “여호와여 주의 증거들이 매우 확실하고 거룩함이 주의 집에 합당하니 여호와는 영원무궁하시리이다.” 아멘! 하나님께서 여러분들의 삶을 주관하고 계시고 한치의 실수도 없이 선하게 인도하고 계심을 믿는 새벽되시길 기도드립니다.

That is right. We are weak, and in fearful realities, doubt can creep in and steal our peace. Even so, we must go to God. When our faith is shaken, we must hold onto His Word that restores us. The Bible is overflowing with evidence of God’s goodness and faithfulness. May verse 5 become our confession: “Your statutes, Lord, stand firm; holiness adorns your house for endless days.” Amen. I pray that this morning you would believe that God is sovereign over your life and is leading you in goodness without a single mistake.
