92:1 지존자여 십현금과 비파와 수금으로 여호와께 감사하며

92:2 주의 이름을 찬양하고 아침마다 주의 인자하심을 알리며

92:3 밤마다 주의 성실하심을 베풂이 좋으니이다

1 It is good to praise the Lord

    and make music to your name, O Most High,

2 proclaiming your love in the morning

    and your faithfulness at night,

3 to the music of the ten-stringed lyre

    and the melody of the harp.

92:4 여호와여 주께서 행하신 일로 나를 기쁘게 하셨으니 주의 손이 행하신 일로 말미암아 내가 높이 외치리이다

92:5 여호와여 주께서 행하신 일이 어찌 그리 크신지요 주의 생각이 매우 깊으시니이다

92:6 어리석은 자도 알지 못하며 무지한 자도 이를 깨닫지 못하나이다

92:7 악인들은 풀 같이 자라고 악을 행하는 자들은 다 흥왕할지라도 영원히 멸망하리이다

4 For you make me glad by your deeds, Lord;

    I sing for joy at what your hands have done.

5 How great are your works, Lord,

    how profound your thoughts!

6 Senseless people do not know,

    fools do not understand,

7 that though the wicked spring up like grass

    and all evildoers flourish,

    they will be destroyed forever.

9 For surely your enemies, Lord,

    surely your enemies will perish;

    all evildoers will be scattered.

10 You have exalted my horn[b] like that of a wild ox;

    fine oils have been poured on me.

11 My eyes have seen the defeat of my adversaries;

    my ears have heard the rout of my wicked foes.

92:12 의인은 종려나무 같이 번성하며 레바논의 백향목 같이 성장하리로다

92:13 이는 여호와의 집에 심겼음이여 우리 하나님의 뜰 안에서 번성하리로다

92:14 그는 늙어도 여전히 결실하며 진액이 풍족하고 빛이 청청하니

92:15 여호와의 정직하심과 나의 바위 되심과 그에게는 불의가 없음이 선포되리로다

12 The righteous will flourish like a palm tree,

    they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon;

13 planted in the house of the Lord,

    they will flourish in the courts of our God.

14 They will still bear fruit in old age,

    they will stay fresh and green,

15 proclaiming, “The Lord is upright;

    he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.”

                오늘의 본문은 표제어에 안식일의 찬송시라고 제목이 적혀있습니다. 이는 시편 중 유일하게 표제어에 안식일을 직접적으로 언급하는 시이지요. 아마도 안식일에 제물을 바치며 의식의 하나로 불렀던 시가 아닌가 싶습니다. 하지만 재미있게도 이 시편의 본문에는 안식일에 관한 어떠한 언급도 나와있지를 않지요. 다만 이 시편에는 화자가 여호와께 감사하고 찬양하며 하나님의 성품을 선포하는 것, 즉, 예배하는 것이 좋다고 말하고 있습니다. 왜냐하면 하나님께서는, 아니, 오직 하나님만이 영원토록 지극히 높은 분, 지존자이시기 때문입니다. 어쩌면 그런 하나님을 예배하는 것이 안식일의 본질일지도 모르겠습니다. 그래서 오늘은 “그러나 주님, 당신은 영원토록 지극히 높은 분이십니다.” 라는 제목으로 말씀을 나누기 원합니다.

Introduction: The Sabbath Without the Word "Sabbath"

The title of today’s passage is “A psalm. A song. For the Sabbath day.” This is the only psalm in the entire collection that explicitly mentions the Sabbath in its title. It was likely sung as part of a ritual while offering sacrifices on the Sabbath. Interestingly, however, the word "Sabbath" never appears in the actual body of the text. Instead, the psalm focuses on the speaker giving thanks, praising God, and proclaiming His character—in other words, worship. Perhaps this is because worshiping God is the very essence of the Sabbath. Only God is the Most High, exalted forever. Today, I want to share a message titled: “But You, O Lord, Are on High Forever.”

                오늘의 시편은 원문을 보면 처음부터 “좋다.” 라고 시작하고 있습니다. 여러분 안식일과 좋다. 라는 두 단어를 함께 생각하시면 무엇이 떠오르십니까? 네, 그렇습니다. 하나님께서 6일동안 천지를 창조하시고 7일에 쉬셨던 쉼의 안식일. 그리고 “하나님이 보시기에 좋았더라” 라고 말씀하셨던 일이 생각이 나실 것입니다. 땅이 혼돈하고 공허한 무질서 가운데 있을때에 하나님께서 세상을 창조하심으로 질서가 생기고 본래의 아름다움이 갖추어지는 상태. 마찬가지로 우리 또한 혼돈과 무질서 가운데 있는 것 같은 무너진 우리의 삶의 조각들이 본래의 자리를 찾아가는 안식과 평화를 얻는 상태. 바로 이것이 오늘 본문 1절이 말하고 있는 좋음 이라는 상태라는 것이지요. 바로 그 좋음이라는 상태를 본문 1-3절은 하나님께 예배하는 것이라고 풀어 설명합니다. 어떻게 예배합니까? 하나님께 감사하고 하나님의 이름을 찬양합니다. 아침에도 밤에도 하나님의 사랑과 신실하심을 선포합니다. 각양각색의 악기를 사용해서 하나님을 높입니다. 지극히 높으신 하나님을 이렇게 예배하는 것이 앞에서 설명드렸던 “좋다” 라는 것입니다.

1. It Is "Good" to Worship (v. 1–3)

In the original Hebrew, this psalm begins with the word "Good." When you think of the words "Sabbath" and "Good" together, what comes to mind? Naturally, we think of the creation account: God worked for six days, rested on the seventh, and declared, "It was good." When the earth was formless and void, God’s creation brought order, beauty, and harmony. Similarly, when the broken pieces of our lives—often filled with chaos and disorder—find their rightful place, we experience true rest and peace. This is the "goodness" described in verse 1. The passage explains this state of "goodness" through worship:

"It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High, proclaiming your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night, to the music of the ten-stringed lyre and the melody of the harp." (v. 1-3)

To worship the Most High morning and night, with every instrument we have, is what it means to be in that state of "goodness."

                그리고 화자는 이제 왜 자신이 이렇게 하나님을 예배 할 수 있는지에 대해서 설명합니다. 그것은 주님께서 행하신 일이 나를 기쁘게 하기 때문입니다. 여기서 주님께서 행하신 일이란 간접적으로 이루어진 일을 말하는 것이 아닙니다. 하나님의 백성의 역사 가운데서, 그리고 나의 삶 가운데서 하나님께서 주의 손으로 직접 행하신 일을 말하는 것입니다. 그것을 경험한 화자는 주님께서 행하신 일, 주의 손이 행하신 일로 말미암아 기뻐하며 높이 외치리라고 말하고 있습니다. 그렇다면 그는 이렇게 큰 기쁨으로 무엇을 외칠까요? 그것이 바로 감탄으로 시작하여 감탄으로 끝나는 5절입니다. “주께서 행하신 일이 어찌 그리 크신지요! 주의 생각은 어찌 그리 깊으신지요!” 이 감탄에는 화자가 직접 겪은 하나님의 행하심에 대한 깨달음이 있습니다. 그리고 그 깨달음은 뒤에 나오는 어리석은 자들, 악을 행하는 자들에 대한 깨달음과도 연결되어 있습니다.

                화자가 깨달은 하나님의 이 크신 행하심과 깊은 생각을 어리석은 자들은 알지 못하며 무지한 자도 이를 깨닫지 못한다고 합니다. 여기서 말하는 어리석은 자들이라는 단어의 어근은 가축, 짐승에 그 뿌리를 두고 있습니다. 즉 이들은 지적이고 영적인 감각이 마비되어 눈 앞에서 일어나고 있는 일들만을 볼 수 있고 그 너머를 볼 수 없는 마치 짐승과도 같은 상태라는 것입니다. 마치 소가 눈앞의 풀과 물만 볼 뿐, 그것을 존재하게 한 하나님의 손길이나 계절의 변화와 같은 그 너머의 섭리를 보지 못하는 것과 같지요. 그래서 그들은 순간적입니다. 그들의 번성과 흥왕함은 우기에 풀이 순식간에 자라나듯 할 것인데 그들은 그런 자신들의 성공이 영원할 것이라고 착각하는 것이지요. 그러나 건기가 오면 어떻습니까? 그 무성한 풀들이 어디있었냐는 듯이 모두 말라 버립니다. 본문은 그들이 지금은 번성하고 흥왕하여 보일지 몰라도 그들을 기다리고 있는 것은 영원한 멸망이라고 말하고 있습니다. 바로 여기에 인간이 헤아릴 수 없는 하나님이 행하시는 일의 크심과 그 생각하심의 깊음이 있는 것이지요. 그래서 주님이 어떤분이신지가 더욱 드러나는 것입니다. 8절입니다. “여호와여 주는 영원토록 지존하시니이다.” 우리는 순간적인 존재이고 하나님이 행하시는 일의 크심과 그 생각하심의 깊음을 다 알 수 없지만 “그러나 주님, 당신은 영원토록 지극히 높은 분이신 것입니다.” 주님은 영원하시고 지극히 높은 분이십니다. 그분이 바로 우리가 예배하는 분이고 그분을 예배할 때 우리는 그 좋음 가운데 거할 수 있는 것입니다.

2. Deep Thoughts vs. Senseless Minds (v. 4–9)

The psalmist explains why he worships: he is filled with joy because of what God has done. This isn't about hearsay; it’s about God’s direct intervention in history and in the psalmist's own life. Witnessing the "works of your hands" makes him sing for joy. This leads to the profound exclamation in verse 5:

"How great are your works, Lord, how profound your thoughts!"

This realization of God's greatness is contrasted with the "senseless" and "fools" in verse 6. In Hebrew, the root for "senseless" is linked to livestock or beasts. These people are in a "beast-like" state—their spiritual senses are numbed. Like an ox that sees only the grass and water in front of its nose, they cannot see the Hand that provides it or the providence of the changing seasons.

Because they lack spiritual perception, they are temporary. They might spring up like grass after a rain, flourishing in a moment of success, but they mistake this temporary prosperity for eternity. When the dry season comes, the grass vanishes. The psalmist warns that while the wicked may thrive now, they are doomed for eternal destruction. This is where the depth of God’s thought surpasses human understanding. Verse 8 declares the ultimate truth:

"But you, O Lord, are on high forever."

We are fleeting, and we cannot fully grasp the depth of His thoughts, but He remains the Eternal, Most High God. When we worship Him, we dwell in His eternal "goodness."

                그 높으신 주님 앞에 그 누구도 설 수 없습니다. 주의 원수들은 패망할 것입니다. 그들은 다 흩어질 것입니다. 그러나 주를 예배하는 자들은 주께서 그의 뿔을 높이시고 그 원수들의 눈 앞에서 기름을 부으실 것입니다. 우리가 직접 원수를 갚을 필요가 없습니다. 복수는 나의 것이라고 말씀하시는 하나님께서 내 원수들이 보응 받는 것을 우리로 보게하시고 듣게 하실 것입니다. 여호와께서 영원토록 지존하신 분이시기에 우리는 그분의 심판을 신뢰할 수 있습니다. 우리의 눈 앞에서 일어나는 일들 때문에 우리는 흔들릴 필요가 없습니다. 오히려 우리는 사막에서도 깊이 뿌리내려 곧고 높게 자라는 종려나무와 백향목과 같이 풍성한 열매를 맺으며 성장할 것입니다. 마치 시편 1편에서 시냇가에 심은 나무가 그러하듯 우리는 여호와의 집에 심겼습니다. 하나님의 뜰 안에서 번성할 것입니다. 14절의 말씀처럼 “늙어도 여전히 결실하며 진액이 풍족하고 빛이 청청하니,” 환경이나 나이를 뛰어넘어 하나님이 주시는 생명력, 그 지속적인 힘으로 우리는 끊임없이 철을 따라 열매를 맺으며 그 잎사귀가 마르지 않을 것입니다. 바로 우리의 그러한 모습이 여호와의 정직하심과 우리의 바위되심과 그에게는 불의가 없으심을 드러낼 것입니다.

3. Flourishing in the Courts of God (v. 10–15)

No one can stand against the exalted Lord. His enemies will perish and scatter. But for those who worship Him, He "increases their horn" and "anoints them with the finest oils." We do not need to take our own revenge. God, who says "Vengeance is mine," will allow us to see and hear the defeat of the wicked. Because He is exalted forever, we can trust His justice.

We don't need to be shaken by the circumstances before our eyes. Instead, we will grow like the palm tree and the cedar of Lebanon—trees that dig deep roots even in the desert to grow straight and tall. Just as Psalm 1 speaks of a tree planted by streams of water, we are "planted in the house of the Lord." We will flourish in His courts.

"They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green." (v. 14)

This vitality transcends age and environment. By God’s sustaining power, we will bear fruit in every season. This flourishing life serves as a testimony:

"Proclaiming, 'The Lord is upright; he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.'" (v. 15)

                말씀을 맺습니다. 안식일 없는 안식일 시편에는 우리가 누구를 예배하는지. 그리고 그 예배함이 우리에게 얼마나 좋은 것인지 각양 각색의 악기로 노래하고 있습니다. 우리 또한 이 시편의 화자와 함께 우리가 예배하는 여호와 하나님이 영원토록 지존하신 분임을 다시 한 번 기억하기 원합니다. 비록 지금 우리의 삶에 혼돈과 환난이 있더라도 영원토록 지존하신 분이 참된 안식과 좋음을 우리에게 회복하실 것입니다. 그때에 우리는 기뻐할 것이며 그 광대하신 하나님의 행하심과 깊은 생각을 경험하며 크게 외칠 것입니다. 하나님의 임재 안에 깊게 뿌리내린 나무와 같이 하나님이 주시는 생명력으로 번성하며 성장 할 때에 하나님의 선하심이 선포될 것입니다. 그러므로 우리는 다시 한 번 기억해야 합니다. 모든 상황에서도 “그러나 여호와여, 당신은 영원토록 지극히 높은 분이십니다.” 기도하시겠습니다.

Conclusion: The Eternal Foundation

In conclusion, this "Sabbath psalm without the word Sabbath" teaches us whom we worship and how good that worship is. Let us remember once again that the Lord we worship is the Most High forever.

Even if your life feels chaotic or filled with trials right now, the Eternal One will restore true rest and "goodness" to you. In that moment, we will rejoice and shout aloud, experiencing His vast deeds and profound thoughts. Like trees deeply rooted in His presence, we will flourish and proclaim His goodness. Whatever your situation, remember this: "But You, O Lord, are on high forever."
