10:16 보라 내가 너희를 보냄이 양을 이리 가운데로 보냄과 같도다 그러므로 너희는 뱀 같이 지혜롭고 비둘기 같이 순결하라

10:17 사람들을 삼가라 그들이 너희를 공회에 넘겨 주겠고 그들의 회당에서 채찍질하리라

10:18 또 너희가 나로 말미암아 총독들과 임금들 앞에 끌려 가리니 이는 그들과 이방인들에게 증거가 되게 하려 하심이라

10:19 너희를 넘겨 줄 때에 어떻게 또는 무엇을 말할까 염려하지 말라 그 때에 너희에게 할 말을  주시리니

10:20 말하는 이는 너희가 아니라 너희 속에서 말씀하시는 이 곧 너희 아버지의 성령이시니라

16 “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves. 17 Be on your guard; you will be handed over to the local councils and be flogged in the synagogues. 18 On my account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. 19 But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, 20 for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.

10:21 장차 형제가 형제를, 아비가 자식을 죽는 데에 내주며 자식들이 부모를 대적하여 죽게 하리라

10:22 또 너희가 내 이름으로 말미암아 모든 사람에게 미움을 받을 것이나 나중까지 견디는 자는 구원을 얻으리라

10:23 이 동네에서 너희를 박해하거든 저 동네로 피하라 내가 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 이스라엘의 모든 동네를 다 다니지 못하여서 인자가 오리라

21 “Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death. 22 You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. 23 When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. Truly I tell you, you will not finish going through the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.

10:24 제자가 그 선생보다, 또는 종이 그 상전보다 높지 못하나니

10:25 제자가 그 선생 같고 종이 그 상전 같으면 족하도다 집 주인을 바알세불이라 하였거든 하물며 그 집 사람들이랴

24 “The student is not above the teacher, nor a servant above his master. 25 It is enough for students to be like their teachers, and servants like their masters. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul, how much more the members of his household!

10:26 그런즉 그들을 두려워하지 말라 감추인 것이 드러나지 않을 것이 없고 숨은 것이 알려지지 않을 것이 없느니라

10:27 내가 너희에게 어두운 데서 이르는 것을 광명한 데서 말하며 너희가 귓속말로 듣는 것을 집 위에서 전파하라

10:28 몸은 죽여도 영혼은 능히 죽이지 못하는 자들을 두려워하지 말고 오직 몸과 영혼을 능히 지옥에 멸하실수 있는 이를 두려워하라

10:29 참새 두 마리가 한 앗사리온에 팔리지 않느냐 그러나 너희 아버지께서 허락하지 아니하시면 그 하나도 땅에 떨어지지 아니하리라

10:30 너희에게는 머리털까지 다 세신 바 되었나니

10:31 두려워하지 말라 너희는 많은 참새보다 귀하니라

26 “So do not be afraid of them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. 27 What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs. 28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. 30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

10:32 누구든지 사람 앞에서 나를 시인하면 나도 하늘에 계신 내 아버지 앞에서 그를 시인할 것이요

10:33 누구든지 사람 앞에서 나를 부인하면 나도 하늘에 계신 내 아버지 앞에서 그를 부인하리라

32 “Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. 33 But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.

                예수님께서 제자들을 부르시고 권능을 주셔서 그들을 유대인의 땅으로 단기 선교를 보내셨던 것이 어제 말씀이었습니다. 오늘 말씀은 앞으로 땅 끝까지 예수님을 증거 할 제자들이 겪게 될 상황들에 대해서 말씀하십니다. 메시지는 분명합니다. 예수님께서 미움을 받으셨듯이 이들 또한 미움을 받을 것입니다. 그러나 그들이 미움을 받는 것 또한 하나님이 주관하시는 일입니다. 그렇기에 그들은 사람이 아니라 하나님을 두려워해야 합니다. 오늘은 “두려워하지 말라, 하늘에 계신 아버지를 두려워하라” 는 제목으로 말씀을 전하기 원합니다.

Yesterday, we saw how Jesus called His disciples, gave them authority, and sent them on a short-term mission to the land of the Jews. Today’s passage looks further ahead, describing the situations that disciples—those who will witness for Jesus to the ends of the earth—will inevitably face.

The message is clear: Just as Jesus was hated, His followers will also be hated. However, even this hatred is under the sovereign hand of God. Therefore, we must not fear man, but God. Today, I want to share a message titled: "Do Not Fear Them; Fear Your Heavenly Father."

                먼저 16절입니다. 보라! 라고 하시며 이들을 주목시키십니다. “내가 너희를 보냄이 양을 이리 가운데로 보냄과 같도다” 이는 이들이 받게 될 미움과 박해를 연상시키지요. 또한 이는 보냄 받은 이들이 이리와 같이 세상 위에 군림하는 자가 아니라 양과 같이 연약한 자로 세상의 힘과 권력 앞에 서게 될 것을 나타냅니다. “그러므로” 라고 예수님께서는 덧붙이시며 명령하시지요. “너희는 뱀 같이 지혜롭고 비둘기 같이 순결하라.” 이는 명령입니다. 미움을 받고 박해를 받을 그들은 그러므로 지혜로워야 하며 순결, 즉 세상과 섞이지 않아야 하는 것입니다.

이들은 사람들에게 박해 받을 것입니다. 17절을 보니 공회, 즉, 유대인들에게 핍박을 받을 것이고, 18절을 보니 이방인들, 즉, 총독들과 임금들 앞에 끌려 가게 될 것입니다. 그러나 그때에 “무엇을 말할까 염려하지 말라”고 말씀하십니다. 20절, 예수님을 40일 광야의 시험으로 이끌으셨던 성령님, 그와 동일한 “너희 아버지의 성령”께서 그들에게 할 말을 주실 것이기 때문입니다. 22절도 마찬가지입니다. 비록 이들은 예수님의 이름으로 말미암아 미움을 받을 것이지만 그것을 끝까지 견디는 자는 구원을 얻을 것이라고 약속하십니다. 그렇다면 도대체 언제까지 견뎌야 하는 것인가? 23절에 이들이 피할 길을 알려주시고 이들이 이스라엘의 모든 동네를 다 다니기 전에 인자가 오시리라고 기한을 또한 정해주십니다. 그렇다면 질문이 생길 수 있지요. 아니 대체 왜 우리는 이렇게 미움 받아야 하는가? 예수님께서는 그 이유를 24-25절에서 예수님께서 귀신의 왕이라고 미움을 받으셨듯이 그들 또한 예수님과 마찬가지로 미움을 받는 것이 당연하다고 말씀하십니다.

1. Sheep Among Wolves: The Wisdom of the Sent (Verses 16-25)

Jesus begins in verse 16 with a sharp call to attention: "Behold!" He says, "I am sending you out like sheep among wolves." This imagery immediately evokes the reality of hatred and persecution. It also signifies that those sent are not to be like wolves who rule over the world with force, but like sheep—vulnerable and humble before the powers of this world.

"Therefore," Jesus commands, "be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves." This is an order. In the face of persecution, we must be wise, yet remain pure and untainted by the ways of the world.

Jesus warns that suffering is coming.

• From the Jews: They will be handed over to local councils (v. 17).

• From the Gentiles: They will be brought before governors and kings (v. 18).

But in those moments, Jesus says, "Do not worry about what to say." The same Holy Spirit who led Jesus through the 40-day temptation—the "Spirit of your Father"—will give you the words to speak. Though you will be hated by everyone because of Jesus, He promises that the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.

How long must we endure? Jesus provides a timeframe in verse 23, telling them they will not finish going through the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes. You might ask, "Why must we be hated like this?" Jesus explains in verses 24-25: if they called the Master of the house "Beelzebul" (the prince of demons), it is only natural that the members of His household will be treated the same way.

자 이 모든 말씀. 이들이 핍박을 받을 것만 말씀하지 않으시고 이들이 왜 그런 핍박을 받게 되는지, 그렇다면 이들은 그 때에 어떻게 피해야 하는지, 또 언제까지 피해야 하는지, 만약 붙잡히게 된다면 또 어떻게 해야하는지 예수님께서는 모두 알려주셨습니다. 그리고 그 모든 말씀을 합하여 26절에 결론으로 이렇게 말씀하시지요. “그런즉, 그들을 두려워하지 말라.” 왜 그렇습니까? 29절, “그들은 몸은 죽여도 영혼은 능히 죽이지 못하는 자”들이기 때문입니다.  그렇다면 누구를 두려워해야 합니까? “오직 몸과 영혼을 능히 지옥에 멸하실 수 있는 이” 바로 하늘에 계신 아버지를 두려워하라는 것이지요.

2. The Correct Object of Fear (Verses 26-28)

Jesus provides all this information—why we are persecuted, how to escape, how long it will last, and what to do if caught—to lead us to the conclusion in verse 26: "So do not be afraid of them." Why should we not fear them? Verse 28 gives the definitive reason: "Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul." Instead, we are told whom we should fear: "Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell." We are called to fear our Heavenly Father.

그분은 어떤 분이십니까? 29절, “너희 아버지께서 허락하지 아니하시면” 참새 하나도 땅에 떨어지지 아니한다고 말씀하십니다. 사람들이 당연하게 생각하는 세상의 이치, 그러나 그 사소한 것 하나까지도 모두 하나님이 주관하시는 일이라는 것입니다. 우리는 18절에서 이들이 이방인들에게 핍박받을 것을 이야기했었습니다. 그런데 그 말씀을 자세히 보니 “이는 그들과 이방인들에게 증거가 되게 하려 하심이라”라는 말씀이 있습니다. 아, 이들이 핍박을 받는 것 또한 하나님의 주관 아래에 있는 것이구나. 하나님께서 이 일들을 하나님의 뜻에 따라 허락하신 일이구나 라는 것을 알 수 있습니다.  우리가 미움을 받는 것 또한 하나님의 일을 이루는 것이라는 것이지요. 그러시면서 무어라고 말씀하십니까? 31절 “두려워 말라, 너희는 많은 참새보다 귀하니라.” 우리가 두려워하지 말아야할 이유는 이 모든 상황을 주관하시는 하늘의 아버지께서 우리를 귀히 여기시기 때문입니다. 이는 우리가 두려워하지 말아야할 이유가 되면서 또한 우리가 진정으로 두려워 해야 할 분은 바로 하나님이심을 깨닫게 하는 것이지요.

3. Sovereign Care: You Are Valuable (Verses 29-31)

Who is this Father that we should fear? Verse 29 tells us that not even a single sparrow falls to the ground "outside your Father’s care." Things that people take for granted as the "natural order of the world"—even the smallest, most trivial details—are governed by God.

Earlier, in verse 18, Jesus mentioned that disciples would be persecuted by Gentiles. But look closely at the reason: "as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles." This reveals a profound truth: even our persecution is under God's sovereignty. God allows these hardships according to His will to fulfill His purposes. Our being hated is, in fact, a means of accomplishing God's work.

Jesus then comforts us in verse 31: "So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows." Our reason for not fearing the world is that the Father, who governs every situation, considers us precious. This realization gives us the courage to face the world while keeping our focus on the only One who deserves our true reverence: God Himself.

말씀을 맺습니다.  오늘 예수님께서는 세상을 향해 나아갈 제자들에게 그들에게 임할 고난과 박해에 대해서 말씀하셨습니다. 그러나 그 모든 과정의 설명의 끝에는 “그런즉, 그들을 두려워 말라”는 말씀이 있었습니다. 그들이 겪게 될 모든 어려움의 시간은 하나님의 주관 아래에 있는 것입니다. 그들이 당하는 핍박을 통해 주님께서는 당신의 일을 이루실 것입니다. 우겨쌈을 당하여도 우리가 두려워하지 않을 것은 하나님 아버지께서 우리를 귀히 여기시기 때문입니다. 하지만 바로 그렇기에 우리가 진정으로 두려워해야 할 대상은 오직 한 분 하나님이신 것입니다. 세상을, 사람을 두려워하지 마십시오. 하늘에 계신 아버지를 두려워하십시오. 기도하시겠습니다.

[Conclusion]

Today, Jesus spoke to His disciples about the hardships and persecutions that awaited them as they went into the world. Yet, the climax of His explanation was always: "So, do not be afraid of them." Every moment of difficulty you experience is under God's control. Through your trials, the Lord will accomplish His divine work. Even when we are hard-pressed on every side, we do not fear because our Heavenly Father considers us precious. Because of His great love and sovereignty, He is the only One we truly need to fear.

Do not fear the world. Do not fear man. Fear only your Father in heaven.
