16:35 그러므로 너 음녀야 여호와의 말씀을 들을지어다

16:36 주 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하셨느니라 네가 네 누추한 것을 쏟으며 네 정든 자와 행음함으로 벗은 몸을 드러내며 또 가증한 우상을 위하며 네 자녀의 피를 그 우상에게 드렸은즉

16:37 내가 너의 즐거워하는 정든 자와 사랑하던 모든 자와 미워하던 모든 자를 모으되 사방에서 모아 너를 대적하게 할 것이요 또 네 벗은 몸을 그 앞에 드러내 그들이 그것을 다 보게 할 것이며

16:38 내가 또 간음하고 사람의 피를 흘리는 여인을 심판함 같이 이를 심판하여 진노의 피와 질투의 피를 네게 돌리고

16:39 내가 또 너를 그들의 손에 넘기리니 그들이 네 누각을 헐며 네 높은 대를 부수며 네 의복을 벗기고 네 장식품을 빼앗고 네 몸을 벌거벗겨 버려 두며

16:40 무리를 데리고 와서 너를 돌로 치며 칼로 찌르며

16:41 불로 네 집들을 사르고 여러 여인의 목전에서 너를 벌할지라 내가 너에게 곧 음행을 그치게 하리니 네가 다시는 값을 주지 아니하리라

16:42 그리한즉 나는 네게 대한 내 분노가 그치며 내 질투가 네게서 떠나고 마음이 평안하여 다시는 노하지 아니하리라

35 “‘Therefore, you prostitute, hear the word of the Lord! 36 This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because you poured out your lust and exposed your naked body in your promiscuity with your lovers, and because of all your detestable idols, and because you gave them your children’s blood, 37 therefore I am going to gather all your lovers, with whom you found pleasure, those you loved as well as those you hated. I will gather them against you from all around and will strip you in front of them, and they will see you stark naked. 38 I will sentence you to the punishment of women who commit adultery and who shed blood; I will bring on you the blood vengeance of my wrath and jealous anger. 39 Then I will deliver you into the hands of your lovers, and they will tear down your mounds and destroy your lofty shrines. They will strip you of your clothes and take your fine jewelry and leave you stark naked. 40 They will bring a mob against you, who will stone you and hack you to pieces with their swords. 41 They will burn down your houses and inflict punishment on you in the sight of many women. I will put a stop to your prostitution, and you will no longer pay your lovers. 42 Then my wrath against you will subside and my jealous anger will turn away from you; I will be calm and no longer angry.

16:43 네가 어렸을 때를 기억하지 아니하고 이 모든 일로 나를 분노하게 하였은즉 내가 네 행위대로 네 머리에 보응하리니 네가 이 음란과 네 모든 가증한 일을 다시는 행하지 아니하리라 주 여호와의 말씀이니라

43 “‘Because you did not remember the days of your youth but enraged me with all these things, I will surely bring down on your head what you have done, declares the Sovereign Lord. Did you not add lewdness to all your other detestable practices?

16:44 속담을 말하는 자마다 네게 대하여 속담을 말하기를 어머니가 그러하면 딸도 그러하다 하리라

16:45 너는 그 남편과 자녀를 싫어한 어머니의 딸이요 너는 그 남편과 자녀를 싫어한 형의 동생이로다 네 어머니는 헷 사람이요 네 아버지는 아모리 사람이며

16:46 네 형은 그 딸들과 함께 네 왼쪽에 거주하는 사마리아요 네 아우는 그 딸들과 함께 네 오른쪽에 거주하는 소돔이라

16:47 네가 그들의 행위대로만 행하지 아니하며 그 가증한 대로만 행하지 아니하고 그것을 적게 여겨서 네 모든 행위가 그보다 더욱 부패하였도다

16:48 주 여호와의 말씀이니라 내가 나의 삶을 두고 맹세하노니 네 아우 소돔 곧 그와 그의 딸들은 너와 네 딸들의 행위 같이 행하지 아니하였느니라

44 “‘Everyone who quotes proverbs will quote this proverb about you: “Like mother, like daughter.” 45 You are a true daughter of your mother, who despised her husband and her children; and you are a true sister of your sisters, who despised their husbands and their children. Your mother was a Hittite and your father an Amorite. 46 Your older sister was Samaria, who lived to the north of you with her daughters; and your younger sister, who lived to the south of you with her daughters, was Sodom. 47 You not only followed their ways and copied their detestable practices, but in all your ways you soon became more depraved than they. 48 As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, your sister Sodom and her daughters never did what you and your daughters have done.

16:49 네 아우 소돔의 죄악은 이러하니 그와 그의 딸들에게 교만함과 음식물의 풍족함과 태평함이 있음이며 또 그가 가난하고 궁핍한 자를 도와주지 아니하며

16:50 거만하여 가증한 일을 내 앞에서 행하였음이라 그러므로 내가 보고 곧 그들을 없이 하였느니라

16:51 사마리아는 네 죄의 절반도 범하지 아니하였느니라 네가 그들 보다 가증한 일을 심히 행하였으므로 네 모든 가증한 행위로 네 형과 아우를 의롭게 하였느니라

16:52 네가 네 형과 아우를 유리하게 판단하였은즉 너도 네 수치를 담당할지니라 네가 그들보다 더욱 가증한 죄를 범하므로 그들이 너보다 의롭게 되었나니 네가 네 형과 아우를 의롭게 하였은즉 너는 놀라며 네 수치를 담당할지니라

49 “‘Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. 50 They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen. 51 Samaria did not commit half the sins you did. You have done more detestable things than they, and have made your sisters seem righteous by all these things you have done. 52 Bear your disgrace, for you have furnished some justification for your sisters. Because your sins were more vile than theirs, they appear more righteous than you. So then, be ashamed and bear your disgrace, for you have made your sisters appear righteous.

                  이스라엘은 원래 버림받은 피투성이였습니다. 아무도 불쌍히 여기지 않는 그를 하나님께서는 씻기시고 먹이시고 입히셨습니다. 그를 아름답게 치장하여 당신의 배우자, 왕의 아내, 왕후로 삼으셨습니다. 그러나 그는 하나님의 은혜를 망각했습니다. 자신에게 화려함과 명성을 주신 분이 하나님이심을 잊고 그것들로 주변나라들과 음행하였습니다. 그들의 우상숭배와 이웃나라들과의 음행이 어떠한지 하나님께서는 30절에 “이는 방자한 음녀의 행위라”라고까지  말씀하셨습니다. 그리고 오늘 말씀입니다. 이제 이스라엘은 더이상 왕후로 불려지지 않습니다. 하나님께서는 그에게 심판을 선포하시며 단도직입적으로 이렇게 말씀하십니다. 35절입니다. “그러므로 너 음녀야 여호와의 말씀을 들을지어다.” 하나님께서 긍휼히 여겨 왕후로 부르셨던 이스라엘입니다. 그런데 이제 하나님께서는 마음을 정하셨습니다. 너는 음녀다. 그러므로 나는 네가 행한 행위대로 너를 간음하고 살인한 여인과 같이 심판할 것이다. 너를 심판하여 진노의 피와 질투의 피가 네게 임할 것이다. 너는 다시 피투성이가 될 것이다. 그때에 너는 음행을 그치게 되리라. 하나님의 긍휼하심으로 왕후가 되었던 이스라엘이 하나님의 은혜를 잊고 음행할 때에, 그는 음녀가 되고 하나님의 심판을 선고받아 다시 피투성이가 될 것입니다. 오늘은 왕후에서 음녀로, 음녀에서 피투성이로 라는 제목으로 하나님의 심판이 그들에게 어떻게 임하는지 또, 왜 임하였는지에 대해서 말씀을 나누기 원합니다.

Israel was originally a newborn abandoned in a field, covered in its own blood. No one had pity on her. But God, in His mercy, found her, cleaned her, fed her, and clothed her. He adorned her with jewels and magnificent garments, and made her His bride, a queen.

But she forgot His grace. She took the very splendor and fame God had given her and used it to commit acts of spiritual adultery with surrounding nations and their false gods. God describes this unfaithfulness in verse 30, calling it "the deed of a brazen prostitute."

Now, God no longer calls her a queen. He declares His judgment and says directly, in verse 35: "Therefore, O harlot, hear the word of the Lord." God had lovingly called Israel His queen, but He has now made a decision. "You are a harlot," He says. "Therefore, I will judge you as a woman who has committed adultery and shed blood." He promises to pour out His fury and jealousy on her, leaving her covered in blood once again. This judgment will be so severe that it will finally cause her to stop her harlotry.

God's compassion had made Israel a queen. But when she forgot His grace and committed adultery, she became a harlot, sentenced to judgment and bloodshed. Today, we want to talk about how this judgment came upon them and why it happened.

                  첫번째, 하나님께서는 더이상 이스라엘을 보호하지 않으시고 그를 간음한 여인과 같이 심판하십니다. 일반적으로 왕비는 한 나라의 ‘국모’로서 백성들의 존경을 받았지요. 심지어 죄를 짓는다고 하더라도 일반 백성들처럼 법률에 따라 처벌을 받는 대상이 아니었습니다. 왕비는 역모를 저지르지 않는 이상 중대한 죄를 지었다 하더라도 일반적으로는 왕비의 자리에서 폐위하는 방식으로 그 죄를 다루었죠. 그런데 오늘 하나님께서는 이스라엘을 더 이상 왕후라 부르지 않으십니다. 음녀라고 낙인찍으시고, 간음하고 살인한 여인과 같이 처벌하시겠다고 선언하십니다. 38절 함께 읽겠습니다. “내가 또 간음하고 사람의 피를 흘리는 여인을 심판함같이 너를 심판하여 진노의 피와 질투의 피를 네게 돌리고” 그는 하나님의 배우자인 왕후의 지위를 박탈당하고 음녀로 낙인이 찍히며 간음하고 살인한 여인이 받아야 하는 형벌을 받게 되었습니다. 그런데 이 모든 심판은 그들이 행한대로 그들에게 임한 것입니다. 36절에서 하나님께서는 그들이 네 정든자, 즉 정부와 간음하여 벗은 몸을 드러냈다고 하십니다. 그러자 37절에서 뭐라고 말씀하십니까? “내가 너의 즐거워하는 정든 자와 사랑하던 모든자와 미워하던 모든 자를 모으되 사방에서 모아 너를 대적하게 할 것이요.” 그들의 불륜의 대상이었던 주변 모든 나라들을 모아서 이스라엘을 대적하게 하십니다. 스스로 그들에게 음행하여 벗은 몸을 드러냈던 것 처럼 이제는 하나님께서 그들의 벗은 몸을 이웃 모든 나라들에게 드러내 다 보게 할 것이라고 하십니다. 그때에 그들은 이스라엘을 돌로 치며 칼로 찌르고 불로 그들의 집을 사를 것입니다. 이 모든 심판은 비록 그들의 이웃 나라들에 의해 집행되지만 하나님께서는 그 주체가 당신임을 분명히 하십니다. 37절, 내가, 38절, 내가, 39절, 내가… 너를 심판하여. 그들이 하나님이 주신 은혜를 망각하고 음행을 그치지 않자 41절에서 하나님께서는 직접 그들이 음행을 그치도록 만드십니다. 그리고 이제 다시는 그들이 다른 나라들과의 음행을 위해 조공을 바칠 수 없도록 그들은 발가벗겨져 피투성이가 될 것입니다.

1. God will no longer protect Israel; He will judge her like an adulterous woman.

Historically, a queen was the "mother of the nation," respected by all. Even if she committed a crime, she wasn't punished like a commoner. Unless she was a traitor, a queen who committed a serious offense was typically dealt with by being dethroned.

But in today's passage, God calls Israel a harlot, not a queen. He marks her with this brand and declares He will punish her as He would an adulterous, murderous woman. Let's read verse 38 together:

“I will judge you as women who commit adultery and shed blood are judged, and bring upon you the blood of wrath and jealousy.”

Israel has lost her status as God's bride, the queen. Now she is a harlot who receives the punishment for adultery and murder. This judgment, however, is not arbitrary; it is the consequence of her own actions.

In verse 36, God says Israel "exposed her nakedness" by committing adultery with her lovers. What happens in verse 37? "Therefore I will gather all your lovers with whom you took pleasure, all those you loved and all those you hated, and I will gather them against you from every side and will expose your nakedness to them, that they may see it all."

God will gather the very nations Israel had sought after and worshipped to turn against her. Just as she willingly exposed herself to them in her unfaithfulness, God will now expose her nakedness for all to see. They will stone her, pierce her with swords, and burn her houses.

Though her neighbors will carry out this judgment, God makes it clear that He is the true agent of this punishment. He says, "I will judge you" in verses 37, 38, and 39. When Israel refused to stop their harlotry, God declares in verse 41 that He will make them stop. He will strip them bare and cover them in blood, so they can no longer offer tribute to other nations in their spiritual prostitution.

                  두번째, 그렇다면 이런 심판은 대체 왜 일어난 것일까요? 오늘 말씀의 하반절은 이들의 음행이 얼마나 악하였는지를 속담을 들어 설명하십니다. 44-45절에서 그 어머니의 그 딸이라는 속담을 들어 이스라엘이 뿌리부터 남편과 자녀를 싫어하는 여인이라고 말씀하시지요. 여기서 남편을 싫어한다는 것은 하나님을 두고도 행음하는 그들의 모습을 빗댄 것이고 자녀를 싫어한다는 것은 자기 자식을 우상에게 인신공양으로 바치는 모습을 빗대어 말씀하신 것입니다. 자 그런데 거기서 그치지 않으시고 그에게 자매가 있다고 하십니다. 바로 언니인 사마리아와 여동생인 소돔이지요. 이미 에스겔 때에는 사마리아가 수도였던 북이스라엘은 패망하고 없어진지가 100년이 넘었습니다. 심지어 소돔은 그 죄악이 극심하여 하나님의 심판을 직접 받은 오래전 하브라함 때의 전설적인 도시입니다. 그들은 이미 하나님의 심판을 받아서 사라졌기에 당연히 그들의 죄악이 아직 무너지지 않은 남유다보다 극심해야 할 것입니다. 그러나 오늘 말씀에 하나님께서는 오히려 그 반대라고 말씀하십니다. 47절, “네 모든 행위가 그보다 더욱 부패하였도다” 그리고는 그들과 직접적으로 비교하며 말씀하십니다. 48절, “네 아우 소돔 곧 그와 그의 딸들은 너와 네 딸들의 행위같이 행하지 아니하였느니라” 그리고는 소돔을 왜 심판하셨는지 그들의 죄목들을 말씀하시지요. 그렇다면 사마리아는 어떨까요? 51절 함께 읽어보겠습니다. “사마리아는 네 죄의 절반도 범하지 아니하였느니라 네가 그들보다 가증한 일을 심히 행하였으므로 네 모든 가증한 행위로 네 형과 아우를 의롭게 하였느니라” 심판받아 멸망한 사마리아는 그들의 죄의 절반도 범하지 아니하였다고 합니다. 심지어 그들이 범한 죄악이 얼마나 악했는지 언니인 사마리아와 동생인 소돔이 의롭게 보일정도라고 하십니다. 자, 사마리아와 소돔은 남유다보다 의로운데도 불구하고 심판을 받아 멸망하였습니다. 그렇다면 이 44-52절의 말씀을 통해 하나님께서 이스라엘 백성들에게 하시고자 하시는 말씀이 무엇일까요? 그들의 죄악은 이미 심판받아 마땅한 수준을 넘었다는 것입니다. 오히려 지금까지 참으신 것이 하나님의 자비였죠. 이제 하나님은 더이상 당신의 분노를 참지 않으시겠다는 것입니다. 43절 말씀입니다. “네가 어렸을 때를 기억하지 아니하고 이 모든 일로 나를 분노하게 하였은즉 내가 네 행위대로 네 머리에 보응하리니”

2. The reason for this judgment: Their wickedness surpassed that of Samaria and Sodom.

Why did this severe judgment happen? The second half of today's passage explains just how wicked their harlotry was by using proverbs.

In verses 44-45, God says, "Like mother, like daughter," to describe Israel as a woman who hated her husband and children from the very start. Hating her husband represents her spiritual adultery against God, and hating her children refers to her sacrificing her own children to idols.

But it doesn't stop there. God says Israel has an older sister, Samaria, and a younger sister, Sodom. By the time of Ezekiel, Samaria (the capital of the Northern Kingdom of Israel) had been destroyed for over 100 years. And Sodom was a legendary city from Abraham's time that had been directly judged and annihilated by God for its extreme wickedness.

These cities were judged and destroyed, so one would naturally assume their sin was far more severe than that of Judah, which had not yet been destroyed. But God says the opposite. In verse 47, He says: "You were more corrupt in all your ways than they."

He then compares Judah directly to them. In verse 48: "As I live, declares the Lord God, your sister Sodom and her daughters have not done as you and your daughters have done." God even lists the sins for which He judged Sodom. What about Samaria? Let's read verse 51 together:

"Samaria has not committed half your sins, for you have committed more abominations than they, and have made your sisters appear righteous by all the abominations that you have committed."

Samaria, which was judged and destroyed, didn't commit even half of Judah's sins. God says Judah's wickedness was so terrible that it made their sisters, Samaria and Sodom, look righteous by comparison.

Both Samaria and Sodom were judged and destroyed despite being "more righteous" than Judah. So, what is God trying to say to the people of Israel through verses 44-52?

He's saying that their wickedness was so great that they had already passed the point of no return. God’s patience was a sign of His mercy. But now, He will no longer restrain His wrath. Let’s read verse 43: "Because you have not remembered the days of your youth, but have enraged me with all these things, I will surely bring down on your head what you have done."

                  말씀을 맺습니다. 오늘의 말씀은 무겁습니다. 그러나 이스라엘이 받게되는 심판은 그들의 행위대로 받는 것임을 기억해야 할 것입니다. 본디 피투성이였던 그들이 왕후와 같이된 것은 하나님의 은혜였습니다. 그러나 그들이 그 은혜를 망각하고 하나님께서 주신 것으로 세상을 쫓아 음녀가 되었을 때에 하나님께서는 그들을 당신의 공의에 따라 심판하실 수 밖에 없으십니다. 아니 그들은 이미 심판을 받아도 예전에 받았어야 했습니다. 그러나 지금 하나님께서는 아직도 그들에게 우화와 속담으로 경고하고 계십니다. 우리는 어떻습니까? 하나님께서 주신 은혜. 버림받아 핏덩이와 같았던 우리를 여기까지 인도하신 그 은혜를 기억하고 있습니까? 오늘 하나님께서는 여러분에게 그 은혜를 기억하라고 경고하고 계신지도 모릅니다. 그 음성에 귀기울여 우리 신랑되신 하나님의 마음을 기쁘시게 하는 여러분되시기를 주님의 이름으로 축원합니다.

Conclusion

Today's message is indeed heavy. But we must remember that the judgment Israel received was the direct consequence of their actions. They were a people covered in blood, but God's grace made them a queen. However, when they forgot that grace and pursued the world, they became a harlot. At that point, God had no choice but to judge them according to His justice. In fact, they should have been judged long ago. But God, in His mercy, is still warning them with these parables and proverbs.

What about us? Do we remember the grace God has given us? Do we remember the grace that brought us from a state of being covered in our own blood to being His own people? God may be warning us today to remember that grace. I pray that we all listen to His voice and strive to please the heart of our Husband, the Lord. Amen.
