119:161 고관들이 거짓으로 나를 핍박하오나 나의 마음은 주의 말씀만 경외하나이다

오늘 본문은 히브리어 알파벳 20번째인 레쉬 ר 와 21번째 알파벳 신 ש 으로 시작하는 20연, 21연입니다.

시의 막바지로 다다르면서 시인은 노골적으로 하나님께 구원해 주실 것을 간구합니다. 그리고 시인은 어떤 상황에서도 주의 말씀으로 인하여 완전한 찬양을 드릴 것을 결단하며, 고백합니다.

Today’s passage consists of stanzas 20 and 21, which begin with Resh (ר) and Shin (ש)—the 20th and 21st letters of the Hebrew alphabet.

As the psalm nears its conclusion, the psalmist openly entreats God for salvation. Furthermore, the psalmist resolves and confesses that, regardless of the circumstances, they will offer complete praise because of Your word.

나를 보시고, 나를 살리소서 (153~160절)

20연에서는 두 가지 동사가 중요합니다. 하나는 보다(153, 158, 159)이고, 다른 하나는 살리다(154, 156, 158)입니다. 그리고 보는 주체는 시인과 하나님입니다. 시인은 주의 말씀을 지키지 아니하는 거짓된 자들을 보고 슬퍼합니다(158). 여기서 슬프다는 단어의 본래 의미는 역겨움, 구역질하다, 병들다 라는 의미입니다. 시인은 주님의 말씀과 율례를 무시하고 버젓이 거짓을 말하며, 악을 행하는 자들을 볼 때 마음이 괴롭고, 심지어 역겨운 느낌이 듭니다. 그래서 시인은 하나님께서 자신을 보아 주시기를 간구합니다.

먼저는 시인의 고난을 보아 주시기를 간구합니다(153).

우는 아이 젖준다는 말이 있습니다. 하나님은 우리의 모든 형편과 사정을 알고 있지만, 그럼에도 우리는 우리의 상황을 봐주시기를 간청해야 합니다. 예수님도 불의한 재판과의 비유(눅 18:1~8)에서 억울한 일을 당한 어떤 과부가 밤낮으로 불의한 재판관에게 자신의 억울함을 아뢰어, 결국에는 그 재판관이 귀찮아서 그녀의 청을 들어 주었다고 말씀하십니다. 하물며 의로운 재판관이신 하나님께서 당신의 백성의 억울함을 풀어주시지 않겠느냐는 교훈을 주시면서, 항상 기도하고 낙심하지 말 것을 말씀 하셨습니다.  

그렇습니다. 그래서 우리는 우리의 상황을 가감없이 주님께 보아 달라고 요청해야 하는 것입니다.

그 다음은 시인이 자신이 얼마나 주의 법도를 사랑하는지 보아 주시기를 간구합니다(159).

그는 자신을 공격하는 악인들, 대적자들과 달리 하나님의 말씀, 법도, 율법을 잊지 않고 순종했습니다. 그리고 하나님은 그러한 자를 지키시고 보호하시고, 구원하신다고 약속하셨습니다. 그래서 시인은 자신이 약속의 말씀을 믿고 하나님의 법도를 지킨 사실을 보아달라고 요청하는 것입니다.

시인은 자신이 얼마나 하나님의 법도를 사랑하여 그것을 지켰는지와 그로 인하여 시인이 당하는 고난을 보셨다면, 이제는 자신을 살려달라고 간구합니다. 시인은 이제 노골적으로 요청합니다.

나를 건지소서(153), 나를 변호하소서, 나를 구하소서, 나를 살리소서(154), 나를 살리소서(156, 157)

나를 변호하소서를 직역하면 나의 소송건에 변호사가 되어 주십시오 입니다. 의로운 재판관이신 하나님께 자신과 대적자들 사이에서 판단해 달라는 요청입니다. 마치 예수님의 비유에 등장하는 과부와 같은 탄원입니다. 공의로우신 재판관은 당연히 정의를 세우실 것입니다.

건지소서, 구하소서, 살리소서는 매우 원초적인 간구입니다. 시인의 상황이 얼마나 힘든지 짐작이 갑니다.

예수님이 오라는 명령에 순종하여 물 위를 걷다가 덮치는 파도를 보고는 물에 빠지게 된 베드로는 주여 나를 구원하소서(마 14:30)라고 외칩니다. 그 앞에는 소리 질러 이르되 라고 기록되어 있습니다.

급할 때는 체면이고, 형식이고 없습니다. 그저 간절하고도 큰 소리로 주님! 살려주세요. 주님! 용서해주세요! 라고 외치면 됩니다. 이보다 훌륭한 기도는 없습니다.   

시인은 두 가지에 근거하여 살려달라고 기도합니다. 첫번째는 하나님의 인자하심, 긍휼, 언약에 근거합니다. 두번째는 그 언약을 향한 자신의 태도(사랑, 순종)에 근거합니다. 이것이 구원의 메커니즘입니다. 근원적인 하나님의 사랑과 구원의 언약이 있고, 그것을 믿고 사랑하고 순종하고 구하는 자가 구원을 얻는 것입니다. 

Look Upon Me and Revive Me (Verses 153–160)

In the 20th stanza, two verbs are crucial. One is to look / see (153, 158, 159), and the other is to revive / give life (154, 156, 158). The ones who look are the psalmist and God. The psalmist looks at the treacherous who do not keep God's word and feels sorrow (158). Here, the original meaning of the word translated as "sorrow" includes disgust, nauseated feeling, or becoming sick. When the psalmist sees those who ignore God's word and statutes, blatantly speak lies, and commit evil, his heart is troubled—he even feels a sense of disgust. Thus, the psalmist pleads for God to look upon him.

First, he asks God to look upon his affliction (153).

There is a Korean saying: "The crying child gets the milk." Although God knows all our circumstances and situations, we must still plead with Him to look upon our condition. In the parable of the unjust judge (Luke 18:1–8), Jesus tells of a widow who suffered an injustice and appealed to the judge night and day. Eventually, the judge granted her request simply because she was bothering him. How much more, Jesus taught, will God—the righteous Judge—bring about justice for His chosen ones? He urged us to always pray and not lose heart.

Indeed. That is why we must ask the Lord to look upon our situation without holding anything back.

Next, the psalmist begs God to see how much he loves His precepts (159).

Unlike the wicked and the adversaries who attack him, he has not forgotten God's word, precepts, and law, but has obeyed them. God has promised to guard, protect, and deliver those who do so. Therefore, the psalmist asks God to take note of the fact that he trusted in the word of promise and kept His law.

Having asked God to see both his love for and obedience to the divine precepts, as well as the affliction he suffers as a result, the psalmist now begs Him to revive him. He makes an explicit plea:

Deliver me (153); plead my cause; redeem me; revive me (154); revive me (156, 157).

Literal translation of "Plead my cause" means "Be my advocate in my legal dispute." It is a request for God, the righteous Judge, to render judgment between him and his enemies. It is an appeal just like that of the widow in Jesus' parable. A righteous judge will naturally establish justice.

"Deliver," "redeem," and "revive" are very raw, elemental pleas. One can guess how dire the psalmist's situation must be.

When Peter, obeying Jesus' command to come, walked on the water but sank upon seeing the crashing waves, he cried out, "Lord, save me!" (Matthew 14:30). The text notes that he "cried out."

In times of desperation, formal politeness and protocol fall away. You simply cry out with a longing and loud voice: "Lord! Save me! Lord! Forgive me!" There is no prayer finer than this.

The psalmist prays for revival based on two grounds. First, God's lovingkindness, mercy, and covenant. Second, his own attitude toward that covenant (love and obedience). This is the mechanism of salvation: there is God's foundational love and covenant of salvation, and the one who believes, loves, obeys, and seeks it obtains salvation.

말씀으로 가슴 벅찬 찬양의 삶 (161~168절)

그동안 시인을 괴롭혔던 대적자들의 정체가 비로소 밝혀집니다. 그들은 고관들입니다. 사회, 정치, 문화를 대표하는 방백, 곧 지도자층을 의미합니다. 그리고 그들이 시인을 괴롭히던 방법은 거짓말입니다. 루머나 가십 등을 퍼뜨려 시인을 괴롭혔던 것입니다. 말이 무서운 것이 이런 부분입니다. 일단 쏟아지면 다시 주워 담기가 너무 어렵다는 것입니다. 특히 아니면 말고 하는 태도로 다른 사람에 대해서 함부로 말하는 것은 자신이 거짓의 아비인 사탄의 자녀라는 것을 드러내는 행동입니다.

그럼에도 시인은 마치 전쟁에서 탈취물을 얻은 것처럼 기뻐합니다. 주의 약속의 말씀 때문입니다(162).

주의 말씀을 따르는 자는 결국 영적인 전쟁에서 승리할 것입니다. 다윗이 그 증인입니다. 그는 게임의 룰을 지키지 않는 대적들에게 한결 같이 말씀의 방법으로 대응했고, 결국에는 다윗이 이겼습니다. 시인도 그 사실을 아는듯 합니다. 이런 자가 복있는 사람입니다. 복있는 사람의 삶은 특징이 있습니다.

첫번째로 주의 말씀을 즐거워하는 삶입니다(162, 163).

그는 거짓을 미워하고, 주의 율법을 사랑합니다.

두번째는 찬양하는 삶입니다(164).

시인은 하루 일곱번 찬양을 한다고 고백합니다. 정확하게 일곱번만 찬양한다는 의미가 아닙니다. 완전한 찬양을 드린다는 의미입니다. 매순간, 단 한순간도 쉬지 않고 찬양하는 자가 복있는 사람입니다.

마지막으로 큰 평안을 누리는 삶입니다(165).

평안의 히브리어 원어는 샬롬입니다. 샬롬은 전쟁이 없는 태평성대를 의미합니다. 하지만 분명히 시인은 대적들의 공격을 받는 상황입니다. 그러므로 시인이 말하는 평안은 누구도 빼앗지 못하는 내적인 더 근본적인 평안을 말하는 것입니다. 그러므로 주의 법을 사랑하는 자들에게 장애물이 없다는 표현은, 실제로 장애물이 전혀 없다라는 의미이기보다는 어떤 장애물이 와도 너끈이 넘어설 수 있다는 의미입니다. 그래서 바울은 다음과 같이 힘주어 말한 것입니다.

사람이 감당할 시험 밖에는 너희가 당한 것이 없나니 오직 하나님은 미쁘사 너희가 감당하지 못할 시험 당함을 허락하지 아니하시고 시험 당할 즈음에 또한 피할 길을 내사 너희로 능히 감당하게 하시느니라 (고린도전서 10:13)

A Life of Praise Overflowing with the Word (Verses 161–168)

The identity of the adversaries who have been tormenting the psalmist is finally revealed: they are rulers—princes and officials who represent the social, political, and cultural leadership. The method they used to torment him was lying. They harassed the psalmist by spreading rumors and gossip. This is precisely why words are so scary: once poured out, it is exceedingly difficult to gather them back up. In particular, talking carelessly about others with an "if it's true, fine; if not, whatever" attitude is behavior that reveals one to be a child of Satan, the father of lies.

Even so, the psalmist rejoices as one who finds great spoil in battle—all because of God's word of promise (162).

Those who follow the Word of God will ultimately triumph in spiritual warfare. David is a witness to this truth. He consistently responded with the way of the Word against adversaries who broke the rules of the game, and in the end, David won. The psalmist seems to know this fact as well. Such a person is truly blessed. The life of a blessed person has distinct characteristics:

1. First, it is a life that delights in God's Word (162, 163).

He hates falsehood and loves God's law.

2. Second, it is a life of praise (164).

The psalmist confesses that he praises God seven times a day. This does not mean literally seven times, but rather offering complete and perfect praise. The person who praises God every moment, without ceasing for even a single second, is a blessed person.

3. Finally, it is a life that enjoys great peace (165).

The original Hebrew word for peace is Shalom. Shalom signifies a era of supreme peace without war. Yet, the psalmist is clearly in a situation under attack by adversaries. Therefore, the peace he speaks of is an inner, more fundamental peace that no one can take away. Thus, the expression that there is no stumbling block for those who love God's law does not mean that obstacles literally never exist, but that they can easily overcome any obstacle that comes their way. This is why Paul stressed the following:

166~168절은 시인의 결론입니다. 말씀을 지키고 구원을 바라다. 

주의 계명, 주의 증거, 주의 법도는 하나님의 말씀과 동의어입니다. 그리고 시인은 이것들을 행하고, 지키고, 사랑했습니다. 나의 모든 행위가 주 앞에 있다는 것은 주께서 모두 아신다는 의미입니다. 그러므로 시인은 이제 하나님의 구원을 기디리는 것 밖에는 할 것이 없습니다.

그렇습니다. 앞선 연에서 말했던 구원의 메카니즘입니다. 근원적인 언약의 말씀과 그것을 믿음으로 사랑하고 순종하는 의인들이 있습니다. 하나님은 그런 자들을 구원하십니다. 그리고 그러한 자들이 복있는 사람입니다. 복있는 사람은 하루에 일곱번씩 하나님을 찬양합니다. 항상 기도하고 낙심하지 말고, 하나님의 구원을 믿고 기대하고, 찬양하며 나아갑시다.

의로운 재판관이시며, 우리를 구원하시는 선하신 하나님! 모든 찬양과 존귀와 영광을 받으시옵소서!  

Verses 166–168 are the psalmist's conclusion: Obeying the Word and looking for salvation.

"Your commandments," "Your testimonies," and "Your precepts" are all synonyms for the Word of God. And the psalmist practiced, kept, and loved them. "All my ways are before You" means that the Lord knows everything. Therefore, all that is left for the psalmist now is to await God's salvation.

Indeed. This is the mechanism of salvation mentioned in the previous stanza. There is the foundational Word of covenant, and there are the righteous who love and obey it through faith. God saves such people. And those people are the ones who are truly blessed. A blessed person praises God seven times a day. Let us always pray without losing heart, trust in and anticipate God's salvation, and move forward in praise.

O God, our righteous Judge and good Savior! To You be all praise, honor, and glory!
