[The Parable of the Wandering Sheep]

10 “See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven. [11]

18:12 너희 생각에는 어떠하냐 만일 어떤 사람이 양 백 마리가 있는데 그 중의 하나가 길을 잃었으면 그 아흔아홉 마리를 산에 두고 가서 길 잃은 양을 찾지 않겠느냐

18:13 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 만일 찾으면 길을 잃지 아니한 아흔아홉 마리보다 이것을 더 기뻐하리라

18:14 이와 같이 이 작은 자 중의 하나라도 잃는 것은 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지의 뜻이 아니니라

12 “What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? 13 And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. 14 In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish.

[Dealing With Sin in the Church]

15 “If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. 16 But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’ 17 If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector.

18:18 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 무엇이든지 너희가 땅에서 매면 하늘에서도 매일 것이요 무엇이든지 땅에서 풀면 하늘에서도 풀리리라

18 “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be[e] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[f] loosed in heaven.

18:19 진실로 다시 너희에게 이르노니 너희 중의 두 사람이 땅에서 합심하여 무엇이든지 구하면 하늘에 계신 내 아버지께서 그들을 위하여 이루게 하시리라

18:20 두세 사람이 내 이름으로 모인 곳에는 나도 그들 중에 있느니라

19 “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

어제 본문에서 우리는 죄인으로서 서로가 작고 연약한 다른 형제를 실족하게 하는 일들을 빈번히 저지름을 살펴봤습니다. 그리고 이러한 행동에는 대가와 책임이 따른다는 것을 두려운 마음으로 배웠습니다. 이렇게 작은 자를 실족시키는 죄를 짓지 말라고 경고하신 예수님께서 오늘은 그들을 향한 하늘 아버지의 뜻을 알려주십니다. 하나님은 작은 자 그 누구 한 명도 잃어버리기를 원치 않으십니다. 그러니 오늘 예수님의 가르침을 통해 믿음의 공동체로서 작은 자를 어떻게 돌보아야 할지 살펴봅시다.

In yesterday’s passage, we saw how, as sinners, we often cause our small and weak brothers and sisters to stumble. We also learned, with a sobering heart, that such actions carry consequences and responsibility. After warning us not to commit the sin of causing these little ones to stumble, Jesus now reveals the will of our Heavenly Father toward them. God does not desire that even one of these little ones be lost. Therefore, through today’s teaching of Jesus, let us consider how a community of faith should care for the little ones.

첫 번째로 믿음의 공동체는 작은 자를 소중히 여깁니다 (10-14절).

10절에서 예수님께서는 “삼가 이 작은 자 중의 하나도 업신여기지 말라”고 강력히 말씀하십니다. 그 이유는 바로 하늘에 있는 천사들이 이들을 보살피고 하나님께 이 땅에 일어나는 일들을 보고하기 때문입니다. 이처럼 작은 자 한 명을 소중히 여기는 하나님의 마음은 예수님이 들려주신 목자의 마음으로 알 수 있습니다. 12절에서 한 마리 양을 잃은 목자는 산에 남겨진 아흔아홉 마리를 뒤로하고, 길 잃은 한 마리를 계속 찾아 다닙니다. 한 마리 양은 남아 있는 아흔아홉 마리에 비하면 현저히 낮은 가치를 가지지만 이 목자는 한 마리 양을 찾아 나섭니다. 하나님께 중요한 것은 ‘한 사람의 영혼’입니다. 이러한 하나님의 마음을 목자는 알기 때문에 더욱 한 마리 양을 포기할 수 없는 것입니다. 우리 삶 가운데 우리에게 중요하고 많은 관심을 요구하는 다양한 사람들이 있습니다. 그 가운데 사실 상 중요도에서 벗어나는 작은 자가 있습니까? 우리가 현재 위치하는 자리에서 예수님께서 어떤 능력과 상황을 허락하셔서 그 자를 돕게끔 하셨는지 고민하는 새벽되기를 원합니다.

First, a community of faith values the little ones (vv. 10–14).

In verse 10, Jesus strongly says, “See that you do not despise one of these little ones.” The reason is that their angels in heaven care for them and report to God what happens on earth. God’s heart for even one little one is further revealed through the parable of the shepherd. In verse 12, when a shepherd loses one sheep, he leaves the ninety-nine on the hills and goes in search of the one that wandered off. Compared to the ninety-nine, one sheep may seem insignificant, yet the shepherd goes out to find it. What matters most to God is “one soul.” Because the shepherd understands God’s heart, he cannot give up on that one sheep. In our lives, there are many people who demand our attention and seem important. Among them, is there someone who may seem less important or overlooked? As we begin this day, may we reflect on how Jesus has placed us where we are and what abilities and circumstances He has given us so that we may help that very person.

두 번째로 믿음의 공동체는 죄 지은 형제를 사랑으로 회복시킵니다 (15-17절).

신앙 생활을 하다보면 우리 모두 죄 가운데 넘어지는 순간이 생깁니다. 평생에 걸쳐 성화의 과정을 걸어야 하는 죄인인 우리로서는 계속해서 믿음의 훈련받고 교정받아야 할 부분이 분명히 있습니다. 그러므로 믿음의 형제가 잠시 주춤할 때 우리는 ‘어떻게 그럴수가 있어? 실망이다’라는 반응이 아닌 그들의 고민을 진심으로 위하는 동시에 죄를 미워하는 마음으로 권면해야 합니다. 이것은 절대 그들의 잘못을 비난하라는 말씀이 아닙니다. “네 형제가 죄를 범하거든 가서 너와 그 사람과만 상대하여 권고하라 만일 들으면 네가 네 형제를 얻은 것이요 (15).” 오히려 죄를 범한 형제를 개별적으로 찾아가 일대일로 대화하며 죄를 노출하지 않고 바로잡음에 목적을 둡니다. 이때 문제가 해결되지 않으면 16절에 한두 사람을 더 데리고 가서 증인으로 삼아야 합니다. 이 또한 실패를 한다면 마지막 시도로 교회 전체에 알려 문제를 공론화해야 합니다. 이렇게 하는 이유는 죄를 지은 형제를 곤란하게 만드는 의도가 아니라 이 문제 상황을 두고 교회 공동체 전체가 합심하여 기도하라는 말씀입니다. 이렇게까지 했는데도 마음을 굽히지 않는 형제에 있어서는 17절 하반절에 “이방인과 세리와 같이 여기라”고 말씀하십니다. 내가 낙심하여 길 잃은 양과 같은 존재가 됐을 때, 이렇게나 나의 영혼의 회복을 위해 포기하지 않고 고민하며 권면하는 공동체가 있다는 것은 진정한 축복입니다. 사실 모른척하고 싶지 누가 괜히 에너지 쓰며 쓴소리 하고 싶겠습니까. 그러나 오늘 예수님께서는 믿음의 공동체는 형제, 자매를 끝까지 사랑하며 쉽게 포기하지 않음을 알려주십니다. 이런 믿음의 공동체가 우리 한사랑 공동체가 되기를 기도합니다.

Second, a community of faith lovingly restores a brother who sins (vv. 15–17).

As we live the life of faith, there are moments when all of us fall into sin. Since we are sinners who must walk the lifelong process of sanctification, there will always be areas where we need training and correction in our faith. Therefore, when a brother or sister stumbles, our response should not be, “How could you? I’m disappointed.” Instead, we should sincerely care about their struggles while hating the sin itself and gently exhorting them. This does not mean publicly condemning their wrongdoing. Verse 15 says, “If your brother sins, go and show him his fault, just between the two of you.” The purpose is to meet privately, to correct without exposing their sin. If the issue is not resolved, verse 16 instructs us to take one or two others along as witnesses. If that also fails, as a final step, the matter should be brought before the whole church. The intention is not to shame the person who sinned, but to call the entire church community to unite in prayer over the situation. When I am discouraged and become like a lost sheep, it is truly a blessing to belong to a community that refuses to give up on my soul, that lovingly cares enough to exhort and restore me. Honestly, it would be easier to ignore the situation—who wants to spend energy offering difficult words? Yet today, Jesus teaches us that a true community of faith loves brothers and sisters to the end and does not give up easily. I pray that our Hansarang community may become such a community of faith.

마지막으로 믿음의 공동체는 주님의 임재를 신뢰하며 기도합니다 (18-20절).

18절에 “무엇이든지 너희가 땅에서 매면 하늘에서도 매일 것이요 무엇이든지 땅에서 풀면 하늘에서도 풀리리라”라는 이 말씀의 의미는 ‘성령님의 인도하심 아래 분별하고 결정할 때 하나님의 뜻을 이 땅에서 실현한다’는 의미입니다. 그러니 우리가 이 땅에서 믿음의 공동체로서 어떻게 성령님의 인도하심 아래에 작은 자를 돌보고 길 잃은 자를 권면할 수 있겠습니까? 바로 기도입니다. 우리가 예수님의 이름으로 모이는 예배, 구역, 부서, 두세 사람의 작은 기도 모임에서 우리는 기도 제목을 나누고 고민을 나눠야 합니다. 서로의 연약함을 인정하고 죄를 미워하며 회복을 위해 한 마음으로 모여야 합니다. 20절 “두세 사람이 내 이름으로 모인 곳에는 나도 그들 중에 있느니라”라는 이 말씀을 통해서 우리는 주님의 임재를 확신하며 단단한 믿음의 공동체를 이뤄야 합니다. 

우리가 길 잃은 한 양과 같을 때 쉽게 포기하지 않으시는 목자되신 주님의 모습을 상상하면 눈물이 아려옵니다. 그와 같은 마음으로 우리가 함께 믿음의 공동체 이루길 원하시는 하나님의 마음을 오늘 살펴볼 수 있습니다. 받은 은혜를 알고 같은 은혜를 공동체 가운데로 흘려보내는 한사랑 공동체 귀한 한 사람 한 사람되시는 여러분들을 축복합니다.

Finally, a community of faith trusts in the Lord’s presence and prays (vv. 18–20).

In verse 18, Jesus says, “Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” This means that when we discern and decide under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, God’s will is carried out on earth. How, then, can we care for the little ones and exhort the wandering under the Spirit’s guidance as a community of faith? The answer is prayer. In our worship services, small groups, ministry teams, and even gatherings of two or three people in Jesus’ name, we must share prayer requests and burdens. We should acknowledge one another’s weaknesses, hate sin, and unite with one heart for restoration. In verse 20, Jesus promises, “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” With the assurance of the Lord’s presence, may each of you become precious members who build a strong and steadfast community of faith.
