20:33 주 여호와의 말씀이니라 내가 나의 삶을 두고 맹세하노니 내가 능한 손과 편 팔로 분노를 쏟아 너희를 반드시 다스릴지라

20:34 능한 손과 편 팔로 분노를 쏟아 너희를 여러 나라에서 나오게 하며 너희의 흩어진 여러 지방에서 모아내고

20:35 너희를 인도하여 여러 나라 광야에 이르러 거기에서 너희를 대면하여 심판하되

20:36 내가 애굽 땅 광야에서 너희 조상들을 심판한 것 같이 너희를 심판하리라 주 여호와의 말씀이니라

20:37 내가 너희를 막대기 아래로 지나가게 하며 언약의 줄로 매려니와

20:38 너희 가운데에서 반역하는 자와 내게 범죄하는 자를 모두 제하여 버릴지라 그들을 그 머물러 살던 땅에서는 나오게 하여도 이스라엘 땅에는 들어가지 못하게 하리니 너희가 나는 여호와인 줄을 알리라

33 As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, I will reign over you with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm and with outpoured wrath. 34 I will bring you from the nations and gather you from the countries where you have been scattered—with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm and with outpoured wrath. 35 I will bring you into the wilderness of the nations and there, face to face, I will execute judgment upon you. 36 As I judged your ancestors in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so I will judge you, declares the Sovereign Lord. 37 I will take note of you as you pass under my rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant. 38 I will purge you of those who revolt and rebel against me. Although I will bring them out of the land where they are living, yet they will not enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Lord.

20:39 주 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하셨느니라 이스라엘 족속아 너희가 내 말을 듣지 아니하려거든 가서 각각 그 우상을 섬기라 그렇게 하려거든 이 후에 다시는 너희 예물과 너희 우상들로 내 거룩한 이름을 더럽히지 말지니라

20:40 주 여호와의 말씀이니라 이스라엘 온 족속이 그 땅에 있어서 내 거룩한 산 곧 이스라엘의 높은 산에서 다 나를 섬기리니 거기에서 내가 그들을 기쁘게 받을지라 거기에서 너희 예물과 너희가 드리는 첫 열매와 너희 모든 성물을 요구하리라

20:41 내가 너희를 인도하여 여러 나라 가운데에서 나오게 하고 너희가 흩어진 여러 민족 가운데에서 모아 낼 때에 내가 너희를 향기로 받고 내가 또 너희로 말미암아 내 거룩함을 여러 나라의 목전에서 나타낼 것이며

20:42 내가 내 손을 들어 너희 조상들에게 주기로 맹세한 땅 곧 이스라엘 땅으로 너희를 인도하여 들일 때에 너희는 내가 여호와인 줄 알고

20:43 거기에서 너희의 길과 스스로 더럽힌 모든 행위를 기억하고 이미 행한 모든 악으로 말미암아 스스로 미워하리라

20:44 이스라엘 족속아 내가 너희의 악한 길과 더러운 행위대로 하지 아니하고 내 이름을 위하여 행한 후에야 내가 여호와인 줄 너희가 알리라 주 여호와의 말씀이니라

39 “‘As for you, people of Israel, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Go and serve your idols, every one of you! But afterward you will surely listen to me and no longer profane my holy name with your gifts and idols. 40 For on my holy mountain, the high mountain of Israel, declares the Sovereign Lord, there in the land all the people of Israel will serve me, and there I will accept them. There I will require your offerings and your choice gifts, along with all your holy sacrifices. 41 I will accept you as fragrant incense when I bring you out from the nations and gather you from the countries where you have been scattered, and I will be proved holy through you in the sight of the nations. 42 Then you will know that I am the Lord, when I bring you into the land of Israel, the land I had sworn with uplifted hand to give to your ancestors. 43 There you will remember your conduct and all the actions by which you have defiled yourselves, and you will loathe yourselves for all the evil you have done. 44 You will know that I am the Lord, when I deal with you for my name’s sake and not according to your evil ways and your corrupt practices, you people of Israel, declares the Sovereign Lord.’”

20:45 여호와의 말씀이 또 내게 임하여 이르시되

20:46 인자야 너는 얼굴을 남으로 향하라 남으로 향하여 소리내어 남쪽의 숲을 쳐서 예언하라

20:47 남쪽의 숲에게 이르기를 여호와의 말씀을 들을지어다 주 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하셨느니라 내가 너의 가운데에 불을 일으켜 모든 푸른 나무와 모든 마른 나무를 없애리니 맹렬한 불꽃이 꺼지지 아니하고 남에서 북까지 모든 얼굴이 그슬릴지라

20:48 혈기 있는 모든 자는 나 여호와가 그 불을 일으킨 줄을 알리니 그것이 꺼지지 아니하리라 하셨다 하라 하시기로

Prophecy Against the South

45 The word of the Lord came to me: 46 “Son of man, set your face toward the south; preach against the south and prophesy against the forest of the southland. 47 Say to the southern forest: ‘Hear the word of the Lord. This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am about to set fire to you, and it will consume all your trees, both green and dry. The blazing flame will not be quenched, and every face from south to north will be scorched by it. 48 Everyone will see that I the Lord have kindled it; it will not be quenched.’”

20:49 내가 이르되 아하 주 여호와여 그들이 나를 가리켜 말하기를 그는 비유로 말하는 자가 아니냐 하나이다 하니라

49 Then I said, “Sovereign Lord, they are saying of me, ‘Isn’t he just telling parables?’”

인생에 있어서 우리를 괴롭게하는 것이 많이 있지만 그 중에서도 오늘 집중하고 싶은 것은 ‘수치심’입니다. 죄를 짓고 회개를 통해 용서를 구했다고해도 우리를 계속해서 쫓아오는 사탄의 속삭임은 그 죄를 기억함으로부터 오는 수치심입니다. 아담과 하와가 하나님 앞에 죄를 짓고 가장 먼저 했던 것이 수치심으로 인해 자신들의 몸을 나뭇잎으로 가린 행동이었죠. 사탄은 계속해서 이 수치심을 가지고 우리를 하나님의 사랑을 받을 수 없는 가치없는 존재로 생각하게 만들고 좌절감을 줍니다. 그러나 오늘 말씀을 통해서 우리는 이 수치심의 굴레에서 벗어날 수 있는 방법을 알게됩니다. 그것은 바로 하나님을 여호와로 인정할 때입니다.

In life, there are many things that trouble us, but today I want to focus on one in particular: shame. Even after we commit a sin, repent, and ask for forgiveness, Satan continues to whisper reminders of that sin, which turn into shame that follows us. When Adam and Eve sinned before God, the very first thing they did was cover themselves with fig leaves out of shame. Satan keeps using this shame to make us think we are worthless and unworthy of God’s love, filling us with despair. But through today’s passage, we learn how to escape the chain of shame. The answer is to acknowledge God as the Lord.

1)    언약의 백성과 반역하는 자들을 구별하시는 하나님 (33-39절)

이스라엘 백성들의 죄악으로 인해 하나님은 심판을 계속해서 선언하십니다. 33절에 “내가 나의 삶을 두고 맹세하노니 내가 능한 손과 편 팔로 분노를 쏟아 너희를 반드시 다스릴지라”고 말씀하십니다. 그러기 위해서 이스라엘 족속을 여러 나라에서 나오게 하며 흩어진 여러 지방에서 모을 겁니다 (34절). 그런 후 ‘여러 나라 광야’로 인도하시어 그곳에서 직접 얼굴을 대면하시며 심판하시겠다고 선언하시는데요 (35절). 그것을 마치 애굽 광야에서 조상들을 심판했을 때처럼 하시겠다고 합니다 (36절). 애굽 광야에서 무슨 일이 있었죠? 광야 1세대는 하나님을 믿지 못하고 불평만 한 결과로 광야에서 죽음을 맞아 약속의 땅에 들어갈 수 없었습니다. 하나님은 참고 참고 기다렸지만 그 죄악의 길에서 끝까지 돌이키지 않는 자에는 결국 그에 따른 죄값을 치뤄야 했습니다. 그렇게 약속의 땅에 들어갈 수 없는 1세대와 구별되는 2세대를 통해 새롭게 하나님은 이스라엘 민족을 포기하지 않고 신실히 이끄셨습니다. 같은 방법으로 하나님은 ‘여러 나라 광야’에서 모인 이스라엘 족속을 ‘반역하는 자와 범죄하는 자’로부터 구분하는 작업을 진행하십니다 (38절). 그 방법은 다음과 같습니다. 먼저는 “내가 너희를 막대기 아래로 지나가게” (37a) 하십니다. 막대기 아래로 지나가게 하는 것은 사실 목자가 양떼를 우리 안으로 들일 때, 양의 수를 세는 방식입니다. 그리고 이렇게 목자가 양을 하나하나 만져 보며 구별하듯이 하나님께서는 불순종하고 범죄하는 자를 다 구별해 낼 것입니다. 그리고 “언약의 줄로 매려니와” (37b)라는 말은 하나님과 다시금 언약 관계로 이끄신다는 약속입니다. 그렇게 언약의 줄로 묶이지 못한 자들은 제거되고 참된 백성만 남을 것입니다. 사실 두렵습니다. 도대체 어떠한 잣대를 가지고 ‘반역하는 자들’과 ‘언약의 줄로 매려는 자들’을 구별하실까요? 우리는 모두 하나님 앞에 죄를 짓는 죄인이지요. 다른 자격 없습니다. 결국 예수님을 붙잡는 자만이 그 은혜를 입은 자인줄로 믿습니다.

1)    God Who Separates the Covenant People from the Rebels (vv. 33–39)

Because of Israel’s sins, God continually declares judgment. In verse 33 He says: “As surely as I live, with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm and with outpoured wrath I will rule over you.” To do this, God will bring the Israelites out from the nations and gather them from the lands where they were scattered (v.34). Then He will lead them into the “wilderness of the nations” and there, face to face, He will enter into judgment with them (v.35). Just as He judged their ancestors in the wilderness of Egypt (v.36). What happened in that wilderness? The first generation, who constantly complained and did not trust God, died there and could not enter the promised land. Though God endured and waited, those who refused to turn back from their sinful ways ultimately paid the price for their sin. Yet God did not abandon Israel—through the second generation, He continued to lead His people faithfully. In the same way, in the “wilderness of the nations” God will separate the Israelites from “rebels and those who transgress” (v.38). How will He do this? First, He says, “I will cause you to pass under the rod” (v.37a). Passing under the rod refers to how a shepherd counts his sheep one by one as they enter the pen. Just as a shepherd inspects each sheep individually, God will separate those who are disobedient and sinful. Then He adds, “I will bring you into the bond of the covenant” (v.37b)—a promise to restore His people into covenant relationship. Those who refuse this covenant bond will be removed, and only the true people of God will remain. This is a fearful thought. By what standard will He distinguish between the “rebels” and those who belong to His covenant bond? After all, we are all sinners before God, with no other qualification. Ultimately, only those who cling to Jesus will receive this grace.

2)    회복을 주시는 하나님 (40-44절)

그렇게 구별된 참된 백성들은 예배를 통해서 하나님과의 관계가 회복됩니다. 하나님은 이스라엘의 높은 산에서 이스라엘 온 족속의 예배를 받으실 것입니다 (40절). 하나님은 여러 나라에 흩어져 있던 이스라엘 족속을 모아 하나님의 거룩함을 열방 중에 드러내실 것입니다 (41절). 그리고 그렇게 예배할 때 이스라엘 백성은 다음과 같이 반응할 것입니다. 43절입니다. “거기에서 너희의 길과 스스로 더럽힌 모든 행위를 기억하고 이미 행한 모든 악으로 말미암아 스스로 미워하리라.” 회복에 대한 그들의 반응은 기쁨이 아니라 수치와 부끄러움입니다. 그들은 스스로 행했던 모든 악한 행위를 인정하며 그것들로 인해 자신들이 혐오스럽다고 느낄 것이기 때문입니다. 이처럼 하나님 앞에 우리의 현실을 직시했을 때 우리가 가지는 마음은 가난한 마음입니다. 정말 여러분 스스로가 역겨웠던 적 없으셨습니까? 저는 제 스스로가 ‘나는 꽤 괜찮은 사람이야’라고 생각하며 살아왔는데 예수님 앞에서 그러한 믿음이 산산조각 날때 느껴봤습니다. “내가 전혀 괜찮은 사람이 아니구나. 거짓되고 가식적이고 더럽구나. 예수님 없이는 희망이 없는 존재구나.” 이 깨달음이 은혜였음을 고백합니다. 이것은 처음 예수님을 영접할 때 느껴지는 깨달음일 수도 있고 또 성화되는 과정 가운데 계속해서 우리를 다듬어 가시는 하나님의 역사하심입니다. 이러한 깨달음이 있을 때 회복의 역사가 시작되는 줄로 믿습니다. 이 깨달음이 없으면 예수님을 구주로 고백할 수 없고 계속하여 죄악된 길에서 머물러 영원한 죽음을 맞이할 수 밖에 없기 때문입니다.

2) God Who Brings Restoration (vv. 40–44)

The true people of God, once separated, will be restored into relationship with Him through worship. God will accept Israel’s worship on His holy mountain, the high mountain of Israel (v.40). He will gather His people from the nations where they were scattered and display His holiness among the nations (v.41). And when Israel worships, they will respond like this: Verse 43 says, “There you will remember your ways and all your deeds with which you defiled yourselves, and you will loathe yourselves for all the evil you have done.” Their response to restoration will not be joy first, but shame and remorse. They will acknowledge their sins and feel disgusted with themselves because of their evil actions. When we face reality before God, the heart we gain is a contrite heart. Haven’t you ever felt disgusted with yourself? I used to think, “I’m a pretty decent person,” but when I stood before Jesus, that belief was shattered. I realized: “I’m not a good person at all. I’m deceitful, hypocritical, filthy. Without Jesus, I’m hopeless.” I confess that this realization itself was grace. This may be the realization we first have when accepting Jesus, but it also continues as part of the sanctification process, where God keeps shaping us. Whenever this realization comes, the work of restoration begins. Without it, we cannot truly confess Jesus as Savior, and we remain stuck in sin until eternal death.

예수님이 이미 악의 권세를 이기셨다는 것을 알지만 우리의 현실을 보면 아직도 악의 권세 아래에 있는 것 같습니다. 그래서 ‘어떻게 하면 하나님의 언약 백성으로 머무를 수 있을까? 어떻게 하면 죄악의 끈을 끊어낼 수 있을까?’ 하고 고민하며 기도해본 적 있지 않으십니까? 사실 이러한 고민을 한다는 것 그 자체가 이미 우린 하나님의 언약 백성이라는 증거인 줄로 믿습니다. 예수님을 붙잡는 자에게는 소망이 있습니다. 하나님은 우리를 성화 가운데 정결케 하기 위해 죄를 다루실 것입니다. 죄악이 들춰질 때 우리는 수치심을 느낍니다. 이렇게 수치심을 느낄 때 우리는 선택할 수 있습니다. 도망치거나 부정하거나 또는 하나님이 참된 여호와임을 인정하거나입니다. 우리의 폐부를 뚫어보시는 하나님께 모든 주권을 올려드리며 우리의 죄를 인정할 때 우리는 참 된 자유를 누릴 수 있을 것입니다.

We know Jesus has already overcome the power of evil, yet in our reality, it sometimes feels like evil still reigns. That’s why we ask: “How can I remain as God’s covenant people? How can I break free from the chains of sin?” If you’ve wrestled with these questions in prayer, that itself is already proof you belong to God’s covenant people. There is hope for those who cling to Jesus. God, in His sanctifying work, will deal with our sins to make us pure. When sin is exposed, we feel shame. And when we feel that shame, we have a choice: to run away, to deny it, or to acknowledge that God truly is the Lord. When we surrender all authority to Him, who sees the depths of our hearts, and confess our sins, then we will experience true freedom.
