10 these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit.

The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words. 14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. 15 The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, 16 for,

“Who has known the mind of the Lord

    so as to instruct him?”

But we have the mind of Christ.

[Introduction: How is the Secret Revealed?]

Yesterday, we shared about the nature of God’s wisdom. It is a mystery that was hidden for those who love God—something the people of this world could never perceive. If so, how can this secret be unveiled, and who can understand this wisdom? Today’s text provides the answer in verse 10: “These are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit.” The one who reveals this wisdom is none other than the Holy Spirit of God. And the people who understand that wisdom are "us"—the Church of God. Today, I want to share a message titled: “The Ministry of the Spirit Sent by God.”

[1. The Spirit Reveals the Way of Christ]

First, as mentioned, the Holy Spirit enables us to understand the "Way of Christ." The world’s eyes cannot see it, and human reason cannot grasp it. Understanding the Way of the Cross is only possible through the revelation of the Holy Spirit. And who initiated this? “God has revealed...” It is God. God, through the Spirit, has made the Way of the Cross known to us and has saved us. This is the truth found in the first half of verse 10.

[2. The Spirit is the Spirit of God (Searching the Depths)]

Is the Holy Spirit merely a tool that God handles? The second half of verse 10 says, “The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.” To “search” here means to scrutinize or examine the deep things of God in great detail.

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God. Verse 11 illustrates this: how can anyone know a person’s thoughts except their own spirit? It is the same with God’s thoughts. No one can know the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. The fact that the Holy Spirit can search even the deepest things of God is proof that He is indeed the Spirit of God. Romans 8:27 says, “And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit.” Who is He who searches hearts? It is God. And God knows the mind of the Spirit. In other words, God’s thoughts are the Spirit’s thoughts. They exist in a perfectly mutual relationship. Therefore, the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God, and He is God.

[3. The Spirit as a Gift of Grace]

There is a third characteristic of the Spirit: the Holy Spirit is a gift God has given to us. Let’s read verse 12 together: “What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.” We did not receive the spirit of the world. Instead, what did we receive? The “Spirit who is from God.” Why use the phrase “from God” instead of just “God’s Spirit”? It is to place it alongside the phrase “what God has freely given us.” The reason for pairing these is to show that the Holy Spirit Himself is also a gift from God. The "Way of the Cross" is a gift to us, and to ensure we understand that Way, God gave us the Holy Spirit as an additional gift. This is the overflowing grace God has poured upon us.

[4. Spiritual Language and the Mind of Christ]

How then should we explain this precious grace of God? It cannot be explained without the Spirit. Spiritual things must be interpreted by spiritual means. Therefore, we must speak not with words taught by human wisdom—such as eloquence, philosophy, or rhetoric—but with words taught by the Spirit. Only then can that grace be properly explained. This means the Holy Spirit teaches us what to say, and we must speak according to that teaching. That is what it means to be a person who lives by the Spirit.

Here we see the difference between the "spiritual person" and the "unspiritual (natural) person." To those of the world, the things of the Spirit look foolish. They lack the Holy Spirit, so they cannot carefully investigate or discern these things spiritually. But what about those who live by the Spirit? They can investigate and discern all things according to the Spirit. As they live in obedience to the Spirit’s judgment, their actions mature toward wholeness.

This is what verse 15 means when it says they are "not subject to any man's judgment." It doesn't mean they have a "diplomatic immunity" from accountability; rather, by living according to the Spirit, they become whole as the Father is whole. Verse 16 confirms this. Paul asks, "Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?" The expected answer is "No one." But Paul gives a startling response: “But we have the mind of Christ.” Amen! When we live by the gift of the Spirit, and when the Spirit works within us, we possess the mind of Christ. Following God’s wholeness, we too are made whole.

[Conclusion: Living by the Spirit]

In conclusion: The Holy Spirit, sent by God, has clearly shown and enabled us to understand the mystery of the Way of Christ. He allows us to know the heart of God. This is God’s immense grace. We must live according to the Spirit. I pray in the name of the Lord that you will all possess the mind of Christ and reach spiritual maturity.

Amen.
