7:1 비판을 받지 아니하려거든 비판하지 말라

7:2 너희가 비판하는 그 비판으로 너희가 비판을 받을 것이요 너희가 헤아리는 그 헤아림으로 너희가 헤아림을 받을 것이니라

1 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

7:3 어찌하여 형제의 눈 속에 있는 티는 보고 네 눈 속에 있는 들보는 깨닫지 못하느냐

7:4 보라 네 눈 속에 들보가 있는데 어찌하여 형제에게 말하기를 나로 네 눈 속에 있는 티를 빼게 하라 하겠느냐

7:5 외식하는 자여 먼저 네 눈 속에서 들보를 빼어라 그 후에야 밝히 보고 형제의 눈 속에서 티를 빼리라

3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

7:6 거룩한 것을 개에게 주지 말며 너희 진주를 돼지 앞에 던지지 말라 그들이 그것을 발로 밟고 돌이켜 너희를 찢어 상하게 할까 염려하라

6 “Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.

7:7 구하라 그리하면 너희에게 주실 것이요 찾으라 그리하면 찾아낼 것이요 문을 두드리라 그리하면 너희에게 열릴 것이니

7:8 구하는 이마다 받을 것이요 찾는 이는 찾아낼 것이요 두드리는 이에게는 열릴 것이니라

Ask, Seek, Knock

7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

7:9 너희 중에 누가 아들이 떡을 달라 하는데 돌을 주며

7:10 생선을 달라 하는데 뱀을 줄 사람이 있겠느냐

7:11 너희가 악한 자라도 좋은 것으로 자식에게 줄 줄 알거든 하물며 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지께서 구하는 자에게 좋은 것으로 주시지 않겠느냐

7:12 그러므로 무엇이든지 남에게 대접을 받고자 하는 대로 너희도 남을 대접하라 이것이 율법이요 선지자니라

9 “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! 12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

                지난 수요일 본문  5:17에서 예수님께서는 “내가 율법이나 선지자를 폐하러 온 줄로 생각하지 말라 폐하러 온 것이 아니요 완전하게 하려 함이라” 라고 말씀하셨었지요. 그리고 오늘 예수님께서는 당신의 가르침을 7:12의 말씀으로 요약해주십니다. 함께 읽겠습니다. “그러므로 무엇이든지 남에게 대접을 받고자 하는 대로 너희도 남을 대접하라 이것이 율법이요 선지자니라.” 예수님께서는 구약의 가르침을 황금률로 요약하십니다. 그리고 우리가 이렇게 남을 대할 수 있는 것은 바로 하나님께서 우리의 좋은 아버지이시기 때문이라고 말씀하십니다. 오늘은 ‘황금률을 가능케 하시는 하늘 아버지’ 라는 제목으로 말씀을 나누기 원합니다.

[Introduction]

In Matthew 5:17, which we looked at last Wednesday, Jesus said: "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them." Today, Jesus summarizes His entire teaching in verse 12. Let’s read it together:

"So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets."

Jesus summarizes the entire teaching of the Old Testament into what we call "The Golden Rule." And He tells us that our ability to treat others this way is rooted in the fact that God is our Good Father. Today, I want to share a message titled: "The Heavenly Father Who Makes the Golden Rule Possible."

                예수님께서 지난 수요일부터 무리와 제자들에게 더 나은 의에 대해서 설명을 하셨습니다. 그러나 재미있는 것은 우리는 연약하여 의로움에 대한 지식이 늘어갈 수록 기존에는 보이지 않던 우리 주변의 불의가 더 눈에 잘 띄게 되지요. 왜, 아는 만큼 보인다고 하지않습니까? 그러면 우리는 ‘아 저거, 저렇게 하는게 아닌데.’ 하면서 다른 사람을 판단하거나 비판하게 되기 너무 쉬운 것 같습니다. 그러나 예수님께서는 1절에 “비판을 받지 아니하려거든 비판하지 말라” 라고 말씀하십니다. 여기서 비판이란 우리가 흔히 얘기하는 판단을 가르키기도 하지만 좀 더 원문에 가까운 해석은 심판을 의미합니다. 즉, 비판하는 것은 다른 사람을 성급하게 평가하고 내 임의로 재판하는 태도라는 것이지요. 그러나 야고보서 4:11-12은 심판이 우리의 권한이 아닌 하나님의 권한인 것을 분명히 합니다. 우리가 재판을 하는 자가 아니라 재판을 받는 자라면 우리는 어떻게 헤아림을 받기 원할까요? 최대한 공정하게? 네, 그렇게 보통 말은 하지만 사실은 공정을 넘어서 좀 더 너그럽고 자비롭게 여김을 받기 원하지 않겠습니까? 우리가 법정에서 그렇게 여김을 받기 원하는 것처럼 우리 또한 내 형제를 그렇게 헤아려야 한다고 말씀하시는 것입니다. 그렇기에 우리는 우리가 알게된 지식과 의로움을 가지고 남을 볼 것이 아니라 나 자신을 먼저 돌아보아야 한다는 것입니다. 그 때에야 내 안에 있는 들보를 볼 수 있고 또 빼낼 수 있을 것입니다.

1. The Trap of Judgment (Verses 1-5)

Since last Wednesday, Jesus has been explaining a "better righteousness" to the crowds and His disciples. However, there is a catch: as our knowledge of righteousness grows, we tend to notice the unrighteousness in others more clearly. As they say, "We see as much as we know." It becomes far too easy to look at others and think, "That’s not how you should do it," leading us to judge or criticize them.

But Jesus says in verse 1: "Do not judge, or you too will be judged." The word "judge" here includes our common opinions, but a more accurate translation of the original text points toward "sentencing" or "condemning." It refers to a heart that prematurely evaluates and arbitrarily puts others on trial.

James 4:11-12 makes it clear that judgment is not our authority, but God’s alone. If we are not the judge, but the ones being judged, how would we want to be measured? We often say "fairly," but in truth, don't we desire to be treated with mercy and grace beyond mere fairness? Jesus is telling us that just as we desire such mercy in a courtroom, we must measure our brothers and sisters with that same grace. Before we use our knowledge to inspect others, we must look at ourselves. Only then can we see—and remove—the plank in our own eye.

                자, 예수님께서 앞에서 여섯가지 율법의 예를 들어 더 나은 의를 설명하셨습니다. 그리고 구제와 기도를 은밀히 할 것과 또 외식하지말고 보물을 하늘에 쌓아두라고 말씀하셨지요. 그리고 오늘은 비판하지 말라고 말씀하셨습니다. 그런데 이 예수님의 가르침들은 사실 너무나 파격적입니다. 우리가 과연 우리의 힘으로 이 모든 말씀들을 행할 수 있을까요? 그래서 예수님께서는 우리에게 하늘 아버지께 구하라고 말씀하십니다. 7절입니다. 함께 읽어보겠습니다. “구하라 그리하면 너희에게 주실 것이요 찾으라 그리하면 찾아낼 것이요 문을 두드리라 그리하면 너희에게 열릴 것이니” 자 분명히 구하면 주시겠다고 말씀하십니다. 그러시면서 11절에 이렇게 말씀하시지요. “너희가 악한 자라도 좋은 것으로 자식에게 줄 줄 알거든 하물며 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지께서 구하는 자에게 좋은 것으로 주시지 않겠느냐?” 이것이 무슨말씀입니까? 너희는 하나님의 자녀다. 그리고 하늘에 계신 하나님께서는 너희의 좋은 아버지다. 너희가 원수를 사랑하고 아무도 보지 않는 곳에서 기도할 때에 너희 아버지께서 갚으시리라. 너희가 나의 의를 행하는 것으로 너희의 생활을 염려하지 말 것은 너희 하늘 아버지께서 이 모든 것이 너희에게 있어야 할 줄을 아시느니라. 그러시면서 어제의 말씀인 6:33에 예수님께서는 이렇게 말씀하셨습니다. “그런즉 너희는 그의 나라와 그의 의를 구하라 그리하면 이 모든 것을 너희에게 더하시리라” 아멘. 우리에게는 하늘의 아버지가 계십니다. 그리고 그 분께서 우리를 당신의 자녀라고 부르십니다. 선하신 하늘 아버지께서 우리의 필요를 아시고 우리를 대신하여 갚으실 것입니다. 우리의 은밀한 기도를 들으실 것입니다. 우리가 하나님의 자녀이며 하나님께서 우리의 선하신 아버지되신다는 사실을 굳건히 믿을 때에 우리는 비로소 남에게 대접받고자 하는대로 남을 대접할 수 있게 되는 것입니다. 12절은 그래서 “그러므로” 라고 시작합니다.

2. Asking the Good Father (Verses 7-11)

Jesus has presented us with a "better righteousness" through six examples of the Law. He has told us to give and pray in secret, to avoid hypocrisy, and to store up treasures in heaven. And today, He tells us not to judge.

Honestly, these teachings are radical. Can we really live this way by our own strength? This is why Jesus tells us to ask our Heavenly Father. Let’s read verse 7:

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you."

He promises that if we ask, He will give. Then He adds in verse 11: "If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!"

What is Jesus saying? He is saying: "You are children of God. And the God in heaven is your Good Father." * When you love your enemies and pray in secret, your Father will reward you.

• Do not worry about your life while striving for His righteousness, because your Heavenly Father knows exactly what you need.

As Jesus said in yesterday’s text, Matthew 6:33: "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." Amen! We have a Heavenly Father who calls us His own. Our good Father knows our needs and will provide on our behalf. He hears our secret prayers. When we firmly believe that we are His children and that He is our good Father, we finally gain the freedom and security to treat others as we would want to be treated. This is why verse 12 begins with the word "Therefore."

말씀을 맺습니다. 황금률, “무엇이든지 남에게 대접받고자 하는대로 너희도 남을 대접하라” 라고 하는 말씀은 하나님께서 우리의 선한 아버지 되심을 믿을 때에 가능한 가르침입니다. 바로 이 말씀이 오늘 비판하지 말라는 말씀 뿐만 아니라 구약의 모든 말씀을 이해하는 핵심이지요. 좋으신 하나님의 자녀된 우리, 그 사실을 믿음으로 예수님이 말씀하시는 더 나은 의를 이루는 저와 여러분 되시기를 주님의 이름으로 축원합니다.

[Conclusion]

The Golden Rule—"Do to others what you would have them do to you"—is a teaching that is only possible when we trust that God is our Good Father. This trust is the key to understanding not just today’s warning against judgment, but the entire Old Testament.

We are the children of a very good God. By believing this truth, I pray in the name of the Lord that we all may fulfill the "better righteousness" that Jesus speaks of. Amen.
