14:12 여호와의 말씀이 또 내게 임하여 이르시되

14:13 인자야 가령 어떤 나라가 불법을 행하여 내게 범죄하므로 내가 손을 그 위에 펴서 그 의지하는 양식을 끊어 기근을 내려 사람과 짐승을 그 나라에서 끊는다 하자

14:14 비록 노아, 다니엘, 욥, 이 세 사람이 거기에 있을지라도 그들은 자기의 공의로 자기의 생명만 건지리라 나 주 여호와의 말이니라

Jerusalem’s Judgment Inescapable

12 The word of the Lord came to me: 13 “Son of man, if a country sins against me by being unfaithful and I stretch out my hand against it to cut off its food supply and send famine upon it and kill its people and their animals, 14 even if these three men—Noah, Daniel and Job—were in it, they could save only themselves by their righteousness, declares the Sovereign Lord.

14:15 가령 내가 사나운 짐승을 그 땅에 다니게 하여 땅을 황폐하게 하여 사람이 그 짐승 때문에 능히 다니지 못하게 한다 하자

14:16 비록 이 세 사람이 거기에 있을지라도 나의 삶을 두고 맹세하노니 그들도 자녀는 건지지 못하고 자기만 건지겠고 그 땅은 황폐하리라 주 여호와의 말씀이니라

15 “Or if I send wild beasts through that country and they leave it childless and it becomes desolate so that no one can pass through it because of the beasts, 16 as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, even if these three men were in it, they could not save their own sons or daughters. They alone would be saved, but the land would be desolate.

14:17 가령 내가 칼이 그 땅에 임하게 하고 명령하기를 칼아 그 땅에 돌아다니라 하고 내가 사람과 짐승을 거기에서 끊는다 하자

14:18 비록 이 세 사람이 거기에 있을 지라도 나의 살을 두고 맹세하노니 그들도 자녀는 건지지 못하고 자기만 건지리라 나 주 여호와의 말이니라

17 “Or if I bring a sword against that country and say, ‘Let the sword pass throughout the land,’ and I kill its people and their animals, 18 as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, even if these three men were in it, they could not save their own sons or daughters. They alone would be saved.

14:19 가령 내가 그 땅에 전염병을 내려 죽임으로 내 분노를 그 위에 쏟아 사람과 짐승을 거기에서 끊는다 하자

14:20 비록 노아, 다니엘, 욥이 거기에 있을지라도 나의 삶을 두고 맹세하노니 그들도 자녀는 건지지 못하고 자기의 공의로 자기의 생명만 건지리라 주 여호와의 말씀이니라

19 “Or if I send a plague into that land and pour out my wrath on it through bloodshed, killing its people and their animals, 20 as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, even if Noah, Daniel and Job were in it, they could save neither son nor daughter. They would save only themselves by their righteousness.

14:21 주 여호와께서 이같이 이르시되 내가 나의 네 가지 중한 벌 곧 칼과 기근과 사나운 짐승과 전염병을 예루살렘에 함께 내려 사람과 짐승을 그 중에서 끊으리니 그 해가 더욱 심하지 아니하겠느냐

14:22 그러나 그 가운데에 피하는 자가 남아 있어 끌려 나오리니 곧 자녀들이라 그들이 너희에게로 나아오리니 너희가 그 행동과 소행을 보면 내가 예루살렘에 내린 재앙 곧 그 내린 모든 일에 대하여 너희가 위로를 받을 것이라

14:23 너희가 그 행동과 소행을 볼 때에 그들에 의해 위로를 받고 내가 예루살렘에서 행한 모든 일이 이유 없이 한 것이 아닌 줄을 알리라 주 여호와의 말씀이니라

21 “For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: How much worse will it be when I send against Jerusalem my four dreadful judgments—sword and famine and wild beasts and plague—to kill its men and their animals! 22 Yet there will be some survivors—sons and daughters who will be brought out of it. They will come to you, and when you see their conduct and their actions, you will be consoled regarding the disaster I have brought on Jerusalem—every disaster I have brought on it. 23 You will be consoled when you see their conduct and their actions, for you will know that I have done nothing in it without cause, declares the Sovereign Lord.”

어제 우리는 에스겔을 찾아온 이스라엘 장로들을 향한 하나님의 심판의 말씀을 들었습니다. 오늘 본문에 나오지는 않았지만 우리는 이스라엘 장로들의 가지고 있던 생각을 추론해 볼 수 있습니다. 그것은 바로 자신들 가운데 있는 의인을 통해 하나님의 심판을 피해보고자 한 것입니다. 이 생각에 대한 응답으로 하나님은 어떤 나라가 불법을 행하여 죄를 범했을 때 심판으로 내리는 네 가지 상황을 가정하십니다. 그리고 반복적으로 세 명의 인물들을 언급하시며 그 심판들의 냉혹함과 불가피함을 강조하십니다. 오늘 본문을 통해서 우리는 합당한 심판을 하시는 하나님을 만날 수 있습니다. 하나님이 하시는 일은 다 이유가 있으시고 하나님이 내린 심판이 정당하다는 이해를 통해 우리는 하나님의 참된 마음을 이해할 수 있습니다. 왜냐하면 궁극적으로 하나님께서 우리에게 간절히 원하시는 것은 심판을 통한 파멸이 아니라 돌이킴이기 때문입니다. 그러므로 하나님의 심판에 담긴 공의와 사랑의 원칙을 함께 살펴보길 원합니다.

Yesterday, we heard God’s words of judgment toward the elders of Israel who came to Ezekiel. Although not explicitly stated in today’s passage, we can infer what the elders were thinking — they hoped to avoid God’s judgment through the righteousness of a few among them. In response to this thought, God presents four hypothetical scenarios of judgment He would bring upon a nation that commits iniquity and sins. He repeatedly mentions three individuals to emphasize the harshness and inevitability of His judgment. Through today’s passage, we encounter God who administers righteous judgment. Everything God does has a reason, and by understanding the justice of His judgment, we can grasp His true heart. Ultimately, what God desires is not destruction through judgment, but repentance. Therefore, let us consider the principles of justice and love that are contained in God's judgment.

1)    공의의 하나님

먼저 공의의 하나님은 공정하게 심판하시는 분입니다. 끊임없이 불법을 행하는 나라에 있어서 하나님은 가차없이 소돔과 고모라에게 했듯 엄중한 심판을 내리실 것입니다. 첫 번째 심판은 13절에 나온 기근입니다. 하나님께서는 손을 펴서 양식을 끊어 기근이 들게 하여 그 나라에 사는 사람과 짐승을 멸절시키실 것입니다. 두 번째 심판은 15절에 사나운 짐승입니다. 사나운 짐승은 돌아다니며 사람들을 잡아먹으며 죽이고 이로인해 땅이 황폐해질 것입니다. 세 번째는 17절에 나온 칼로 인한 심판입니다. 이는 전쟁을 통해 파괴당하는 것을 비유적으로 표현한 상황입니다. 이 세상 전쟁도 하나님의 주도 아래에 있음을 보여줍니다. 마지막 네 번째는 19절에 나온 전염병입니다. 그리고 이 때 반복적으로 제기되는 인물들이 있습니다. 그들은 바로 노아, 다니엘, 욥입니다. 이들은 아시다시피 구약을 대표하는 의인들입니다. 하나님께서는 하나님의 심판이 임하면 아무리 ‘노아, 다니엘, 욥’과 같은 의인이 그 나라에 함께 산다고 해도 그들로 인해 다른 이들이 구원을 보장받지 못한다는 분명한 한계를 말씀하십니다. 심지어 그들의 자녀라 할지라도 말입니다. 그러므로 다른 의인에게 의지해서 하나님의 심판을 피할 수 있다고 여기는 것은 엄청난 착각입니다. 노아, 다니엘, 욥의 의로움은 오직 그들 스스로의 생명만을 구할 수 있을 뿐입니다. 심판과 구원은 철저히 개인의 몫임을 우리는 기억해야 합니다. “사람이 마음으로 믿어 의에 이르고 입으로 시인하여 구원에 이르느니라” (롬 10:10). 예수님을 믿음으로서 영생을 누리는 자가 됐다면 매일 손을 씻듯이 날마다 짓는 죄를 회개하며 하나님과의 화평을 유지해야 할 것입니다.

1) God of Justice

First, God of justice is One who judges fairly. To a nation that continues to act lawlessly, God will bring severe judgment, as He did to Sodom and Gomorrah. The first judgment, found in verse 13, is famine. God will stretch out His hand, cut off food supply, and bring famine, causing both humans and animals in the land to perish. The second judgment, in verse 15, is wild beasts. These beasts will roam the land, devour people, and leave the land desolate. The third, in verse 17, is judgment by the sword — a metaphor for destruction through war. This shows that even war is under God's sovereign control. The fourth and final judgment, in verse 19, is plague. In each of these scenarios, three figures are repeatedly mentioned: Noah, Daniel, and Job. As you know, they represent righteous individuals in the Old Testament. God clearly states that when His judgment falls, not even the presence of these righteous individuals in the nation would be enough to save others. Not even their children. Therefore, it is a grave misconception to think one can escape God’s judgment by depending on someone else’s righteousness. The righteousness of Noah, Daniel, and Job could only save themselves. We must remember that judgment and salvation are entirely individual matters. “For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” (Romans 10:10) If you have received eternal life through faith in Jesus, you must continually repent of your daily sins, just as you wash your hands daily, and maintain peace with God.

2)    회복을 이끄시는 하나님

이렇게 낙담스러운 심판의 상황 가운데에도 희망이 있습니다. 22절을 통해 유다 백성들이 위로를 받을 수 있는 포인트가 두 가지 있습니다. “그러나 그 가운데에 피하는 자가 남아 있어 끌려 나오리니 곧 자녀들이라 그들이 너희에게로 나아오리니 너희가 그 행동과 소행을 보면 내가 예루살렘에 내린 재앙 곧 그 내린 모든 일에 대하여 너희가 위로를 받을 것이라” (22절). 첫 번째는 바로 심판 속 살아남은 자들이 있을 것이란 겁니다. 하나님께서는 심판 가운데 살아남은 자들을 바벨론 포로로 잡아 이미 바벨론에 있는 유다 백성들 앞으로 데려오실 것입니다. 그리고 하나님은 그 자들을 자녀라고 부릅니다.  두 번째로 그들의 행동과 소행을 봄으로써 하나님의 심판이 정당했음을 깨닫게 되는 것입니다. 심판에서 살아남은 자들이 여전히 죄를 깨닫지 못하고 불법과 패역한 행위를 하는 것을 보며 유다 백성들은 ‘아 하나님이 심판을 내리실 수 밖에 없으셨구나’를 느낄 것입니다. 그리고 하나님을 향해 가지고 있던 오해가 풀리고 납득이 되며 위로를 받을 것입니다. 우리가 두 눈이 가리워져 죄를 인식하지 못하면 회개를 하기가 쉽지 않습니다. 허나 죄가 인정이되면 비록 심판은 이루어졌을지라도 잘못을 뉘우치고 다시 돌이킬 수 있습니다. 그래서 죄가 납득되는 것이 참으로 은혜입니다. 사실 이것이 신앙생활의 절반 이상의 중요성을 차지한다고 생각합니다. 기독교인의 시작도 죄인임을 고백하는 것에서 부터니까요. 죄인임을 깨닫지 못한 일반 사람들은 그렇게 예수님을 만나지 못합니다. 죄인이기에 구세주가 필요하다는 사실을 인정하지 못하니까요. 사실 이해와 납득이 되지 않아도 해야하는 것이 회개입니다. 그러나 이렇게 우리가 인정할 수 있는 상황을 만들어주시는 하나님은 참으로 세심하고 자비로우신 분입니다. 우리가 죄를 인정하고 회개했을 때 가장 많은 은혜를 누리는 것은 우리 자신입니다. 그 은혜가 여러분에게 임하길 기도합니다. 이렇듯 하나님은 계속해서 참고 기다리시며 우리 모두가 회개하여 돌아오기를 원하십니다.

2) God Who Leads to Restoration

Even in the midst of such discouraging judgment, there is hope. Verse 22 offers two points of comfort for the people of Judah: “Yet, behold, survivors will be left in it who will be brought out—both sons and daughters. Behold, they will come out to you, and when you see their ways and their deeds, you will be comforted for the disaster I have brought upon Jerusalem, for all that I have brought upon it.” (v.22) First, some will survive the judgment. God will bring those survivors — His “children” — from among the exiles to those already in Babylon. Secondly, by observing their actions and conduct, the people will come to realize that God’s judgment was truly just. When they see that those who survived the judgment still fail to recognize their sin and continue in lawless and rebellious behavior, the people of Judah will say, “Ah, now I understand why God had no choice but to bring judgment.” Misunderstandings they had about God will be cleared up, they will come to understand, and they will be comforted. When our spiritual eyes are blinded and we fail to recognize sin, it becomes difficult to repent. However, once sin is acknowledged—even if judgment has already occurred—we can still feel remorse and turn back to God. This is why realizing and accepting our sin is, in itself, a profound grace. In fact, I believe this understanding accounts for more than half the importance of the Christian life. The beginning of the Christian journey is the confession: “I am a sinner.” People who do not recognize themselves as sinners often never come to meet Jesus—because they cannot admit that, as sinners, they need a Savior. Yes, repentance is something we must do even when we don’t fully understand or accept everything. But how considerate and merciful is our God, who often allows us to come to that point of recognition, making repentance possible. When we acknowledge our sin and repent, the one who receives the greatest grace is ourselves. I pray that this grace will be poured out on you. In this way, God patiently continues to wait for all of us to repent and return to Him.

우리는 오늘 다시 한번 죄악의 심각성을 느낍니다. 하나님은 우상 숭배와 불순종을 미워하시고 그에 따른 죄를 엄중하게 심판하십니다. 그러나 심판 가운데에서도 살아남는 자들을 통해 새로운 희망과 소망을 주시는 하나님은 긍휼의 하나님이십니다. 이 새벽 우리를 정결케 하시기 위해 매를 들 수 밖에 없는 하나님 아버지의 심정을 살펴보기를 원합니다. 그리고 나 개인의 구원만을 신경쓰는 것이 아니라 주변에 있는 공동체로 확장해 아직 본인이 죄인됨을 깨닫지 못하는 불쌍한 영혼들을 위해 함께 기도합시다.

Today, once again, we are reminded of the seriousness of sin. God hates idolatry and disobedience and brings severe judgment accordingly. Yet, even within judgment, He offers hope and renewal through those who survive — a sign that He is a God of mercy. This morning, may we reflect on the heart of our Heavenly Father, who at times must discipline us to purify us. And let us not only be concerned with our own personal salvation, but also extend our hearts to our surrounding communities. Let us pray for the souls who have not yet realized their sinfulness — that they, too, may return to God.
