15:50 형제들아 내가 이것을 말하노니 혈과 육은 하나님 나라를 이어받을 수 없고 또한 썩는 것은 썩지 아니하는 것을 유업으로 받지 못하느니라

50 I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”

15:55 사망아 너의 승리가 어디 있느냐 사망아 네가 쏘는 것이 어디 있느냐

55 “Where, O death, is your victory?

    Where, O death, is your sting?”

15:56 사망이 쏘는 것은 죄요 죄의 권능은 율법이라

15:57 우리 주 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 우리에게 승리를 주시는 하나님께 감사하노니

56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

15:58 그러므로 내 사랑하는 형제들아 견실하며 흔들리지 말며 항상 주의 일에 더욱 힘쓰는 자들이 되라 이는 너희 수고가 주 안에서 헛되지 않은 줄을 앎이라

58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

하나님은 아담을 창조하신 후에 문화명령과 더불어 다음과 같이 명령하십니다.

선악을 알게 하는 나무의 열매는 먹지 말라 네가 먹는 날에는 반드시 죽으리라 하시니라 (창 2:17)

그럼에도 아담과 하와는 선악과를 먹었습니다. 그런데 아담과 하와는 바로 죽지 않았습니다. 성경을 보면 아담은 구백 삼십 세(창 9:5)를 살고 죽었다고 말합니다. 선악과를 먹고 바로 죽은 것이 아닌 것입니다. 그렇다면 하나님이 실언을 하신 것인가요?

그렇지 않습니다. 하나님은 절대로 허튼 소리를 하실 수 없는 분입니다. 그러므로 하나님의 말씀은 항상 옳다는 것을 전제로 창세기 2장 17절에서 말씀하신 죽음이 무엇인지 다시 생각해 보아야 합니다. 일반적으로 우리가 말하는 죽음은 영혼과 육체가 분리되는 것입니다. 이 죽음은 바울에 의하면 씨앗이 땅에 떨어져 썩는 것이고, 엘리자베스에 의하면 누에고치가 탈피하여 나비가 되는 것입니다.

그러므로 육체와 영혼이 분리되는 것은 새로운 세계, 차원으로 넘어가는 유일한 길입니다. 그런 점에서 더 근본적인 죽음은 지금 말할 두번째 죽음입니다. 두번째 죽음으로 더 근원적인 죽음이란 하나님과의 관계가 끊어지는 것입니다.

아담과 하와는 선악과를 먹는 순간 하나님과의 관계가 끊어져 사실은 죽은 존재가 된 것입니다. 이제 육체와 영혼이 분리되는 것은 시간 문제일 뿐입니다. 하나님과의 관계가 끊어져 죽은 존재가 된 인생은 90년을 살든 900년을 살든 결과는 마찬가지로 육체와 영혼이 분리되게 된 것입니다. 그러므로 하나님의 말씀은 절대로 오류가 없는 진리의 말씀인 것입니다.

After creating Adam, God gave him the Cultural Mandate along with the following command:  

Despite this, Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit. However, they did not die immediately. According to the Bible, Adam lived for 930 years before he died (Genesis 5:5 / Note: text mentions 9:5, but reference is 5:5). He did not drop dead the exact moment he ate the fruit.  

Does this mean God misspoke? Absolutely not. God is someone who can never speak idly or falsely. Therefore, operating on the premise that God's Word is always right, we must reconsider what "death" actually means in Genesis 2:17.  

Generally speaking, the death we refer to is the separation of the soul from the body. According to Paul, this death is like a seed falling to the ground and rotting ; according to Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, it is like a cocoon shedding its shell to become a butterfly. Therefore, the separation of body and soul is the only path to crossing over into a new world and a new dimension. In that sense, a much more fundamental death is the "second death" we are about to discuss.  

The more foundational, ultimate death is the severing of one’s relationship with God. The exact moment Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, their relationship with God was severed, meaning they essentially became dead beings right then and there.  

From that point on, the physical separation of the body and soul was merely a matter of time. Once a person becomes a dead being due to a severed relationship with God, the end result is exactly the same—the body and soul will eventually separate—whether they live for 90 years or 900 years. Therefore, God’s Word is an absolutely flawless, infallible truth.

나팔소리 들릴 때 (50~52절)

바울은 부활과 관련된 결론적인 권면을 합니다. 혈과 육은 하나님 나라를 이어받을 수 없고 또한 썩는 것은 썩지 아니하는 것을 유업으로 받지 못하느니라(50b) 여기서 말하는 혈과 육은 아담에게 이어받은 육체를 말합니다.

그런데 흙으로 지어진 이 육체는 아담이 범죄하는 순간 흙으로 돌아가야 하는 운명에 놓입니다. 그리고 이렇게 썩어 없어지는 육체는 영원한 것을 담을 수 없습니다. 그 내용물이 무엇이냐에 따라서 그것을 담는 용기의 재질은 특별해야 합니다. 특별한 화학 물질은 특별한 용기에 담아야 하듯, 영원한 영혼은 영원한 것에 담아야 하는데 죄를 범한 육체는 영원한 것을 담을 수 없기에 결국 썩을 육체와 분리되는 것입니다.

바울은 이제 마지막 때에 벌어질 비밀을 알려 줍니다. 아마도 환상 가운데 목격했거나, 주님께 직접 받은 계시일 것입니다. 그것은 우리가 그냥 죽는 것으로 끝나는 것이 아니라는 사실입니다. 우리는 모두 마지막 나팔에 순식간에 홀연히 다 변화될 것입니다(51b). 주님이 재림하시는 순간, 곧 심판의 날, 종말의 말, 여호와의 날에 우리는 모두 변화합니다. 죽었던 자들이 썩지 아니할 것으로 다시 살아나고, 살아있는 자들 역시 변화할 것입니다.

여기서 변화하는 것은 부활체로 변화되는 것을 의미합니다. 죽지 않고 변화를 경험하는 자들은 인류 가운데 정말 마지막 세대 뿐이고 모든 인류는 죽어서 육체가 썩어 없어진 후, 다시 영원히 영혼을 담을 수 있는 새로운 육체로 부활하는 것입니다. 예수님처럼 말입니다.  

When the Trumpet Sounds (vv. 50–52)   

Paul offers a concluding exhortation regarding the resurrection : "I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable." (v. 50). The "flesh and blood" mentioned here refers to the physical body we inherited from Adam.  

However, the moment Adam sinned, this body made of dust was destined to return to dust. A perishable body like this cannot contain what is eternal. Depending on what a container is meant to hold, the material of that container must be uniquely suited for it.  

Just as volatile chemicals must be kept in specialized containers, an eternal soul must be housed in something eternal. Because a sin-tainted body cannot hold eternal things, it must ultimately separate from the decaying flesh.  

Paul now reveals a mystery that will take place at the end of time—a mystery he likely witnessed in a vision or received as a direct revelation from the Lord. It is the reality that we do not simply vanish into nothingness when we die. We will all be changed, in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet (v. 51).  

The moment the Lord returns—the Day of Judgment, the end of days, the Day of the Lord—we will all be transformed. The dead will be raised imperishable, and those who are alive will also be changed.  

This transformation means being changed into a resurrected body. Those who experience this transformation without experiencing physical death will only be the very last generation of humanity. Everyone else will experience physical death, turn to dust, and then be resurrected into a new body capable of housing the soul eternally —just like Jesus.  

승리를 주시는 하나님께 감사 (53~58절)

바울은 이러한 마지막 날에 일어날 우리의 변화에 대해서 이 썩을 것이 반드시 썩지 아니할 것을 입겠고 이 죽을 것이 죽지 아니함을 입을 것(53)이라고 말합니다. 앞서 설명한 대로 마지막 날, 부활체를 입는 것을 표현하는 말입니다. 바울은 이사야 선지자가 말한 것을 자유롭게 인용하여 그 날에는 사망을 이길 것을 예언합니다.

사망을 영원히 멸하실 것이라 주 여호와께서 모든 얼굴에서 눈물을 씻기시며

자기 백성의 수치를 온 천하에서 제하시리라 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하셨느니라 (사 25:8)

바울은 이어서 호세아 선지자의 말을 인용(호 13:14)하여 너무도 멋진 승리의 노래를 부릅니다. 사망아 너의 승리가 어디 있느냐 사망아 네가 쏘는 것이 어디 있느냐 사망이 쏘는 것은 죄요 죄의 권능은 율법이라(55~56) 죽음의 무기는 죄입니다. 인간이 죄를 지음으로 사망이 인류 가운데 들어왔습니다. 그리고 그 죄가 권능을 발휘할 수 있는 근본이 바로 율법입니다. 하나님의 말씀이 그래서 두려운 것입니다. 하나님의 말씀이 선포되는 순간 그 말씀은 권세를 갖습니다.

율법은 우리에게 죄가 무엇인지 기준을 제시합니다. 그리고 그 말씀을 기준으로 우리는 심판을 받는 것입니다. 아담이 그 말씀에 불순종함으로 그것이 권능이 되어 인간을 지배했던 것입니다. 하지만 마지막 아담인 예수님의 완전한 순종으로 드디어 사망아 그 권세를 잃었습니다.

그래서 바울은 우리 주 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 우리에게 승리를 주시는 하나님께 감사드립니다(57).

여기서 승리에 해당하는 헬라어는 니코스νῖκος인데, 정복하다, 극복하다 라는 의미입니다. 예수님이 십자가에 죽으시고 부활하심으로 사망 권세를 정복하신 것처럼, 예수를 믿는 자들 역시 그와 더불어 사망 권세를 이긴 것입니다.

Praise to God Who Gives Us the Victory (vv. 53–58)   

Regarding this final transformation, Paul writes: "For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality." (v. 53). As explained earlier, this describes putting on a resurrected body on the last day.  

Paul freely quotes the prophet Isaiah to prophesy the ultimate defeat of death on that day:  

Paul then quotes the prophet Hosea (Hosea 13:14) to sing a magnificent song of victory:  

The ultimate weapon of death is sin. It was through human sin that death entered the world. And the fundamental source from which sin derives its power is the Law.  

This is why God’s Word is so reverent and awe-inspiring. The moment God's Word is proclaimed, it carries absolute authority. The Law provides us with the standard of what sin is, and we are judged according to that standard. Because Adam disobeyed that Word, it became a power that ruled over humanity.  

However, through the perfect obedience of Jesus—the Last Adam—death has finally lost its power. This is why Paul proclaims: "But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." (v. 57).  

The Greek word used for "victory" here is nikos ($\nu\hat{\iota}\kappa o\varsigma$), which means "to conquer" or "to overcome". Just as Jesus conquered the power of death by dying on the cross and rising again, those who believe in Jesus overcome the power of death alongside Him.  

바울은 기독교교리를 세우는 것보다는 고린도교인들의 삶에 더욱 관심과 애착이 있었습니다. 그러므로 내 사랑하는 형제들아 견실하며 흔들리지 말고 항상 주의 일에 더욱 힘쓰는 자들이 되라 이는 너희 수고가 주 안에서 헛되지 않을 줄 앎이라(58)고 사랑의 권면을 하는 것입니다.

진정한 종말 신앙, 부활의 신앙을 가진 자들은 시한부 종말론자들과 같이 삶을 포기하지 않습니다. 오히려 부활을 소망하고 바라기에 오늘 하루에 최선을 다하고 항상 주의 일에 힘쓰는 자들입니다. 이런 자들의 삶은 결코 그 수고가 주 안에서 헛되지 않을 것입니다. 그러니 부활의 소망을 가지고 조금만 더 힘을 냅시다!

Ultimately, Paul was always more deeply invested in and affectionate toward the actual daily lives of the Corinthian believers than he was in merely establishing abstract Christian doctrine. That is why he offers this loving exhortation:  

People who possess a true, authentic understanding of end-times theology and the resurrection do not abandon their daily lives like doomsday cultists do. Rather, because they hope for and look forward to the resurrection, they do their absolute best with the day they have been given today, always pouring themselves into the Lord's work.  

The life and labor of such individuals will never be in vain within the Lord. Therefore, let us hold fast to the hope of the resurrection and take heart just a little bit more!
