10:1 예수께서 그의 열두 제자를 부르사 더러운 귀신을 쫓아내며 모든 병과 모든 약한 것을 고치는 권능을 주시니라

1 Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.

10:2 열두 사도의 이름은 이러하니 베드로라 하는 시몬을 비롯하여 그의 형제 안드레와 세베대의 아들 야고보와 그의 형제 요한,

10:3 빌립과 바돌로매, 도마와 세리 마태, 알패오의 아들 야고보와 다대오,

10:4 가나안인 시몬 및 가룟 유다 곧 예수를 판 자라

2 These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (who is called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; 3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; 4 Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.

10:5 예수께서 이 열 둘을 내보내시며 명하여 이르시되 이방인의 길로도 가지 말고 사마리아인의 고을에도 들어가지 말고

10:6 오히려 이스라엘 집의 잃어버린 양에게로 가라

10:7 가면서 전파하여 말하되 천국이 가까이 왔다 하고

10:8 병든 자를 고치며 죽은 자를 살리며 나병환자를 깨끗하게 하며 귀신을 쫓아내되 너희가 거저 받았으니 거저 주어라

5 These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans. 6 Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel. 7 As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’ 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.

10:9 너희 전대에 금이나 은이나 동을 가지지 말고

10:10 여행을 위하여 배낭이나 두 벌 옷이나 신이나 지팡이를 가지지 말라 이는 일꾼이 자기의 먹을 것 받는 것이 마땅함이라

10:11 어떤 성이나 마을에 들어가든지 그 중에 합당한 자를 찾아내어 너희가 떠나기까지 거기서 머물라

10:12 또 그 집에 들어가면서 평안하기를 빌라

10:13 그 집이 이에 합당하면 너희 빈 평안이 거기 임할 것이요 만일 합당치 아니하면 그 평안이 너희에게 돌아올 것이니라

10:14 누구든지 너희를 영접하지도 아니하고 너희 말을 듣지도 아니하거든 그 집이나 성에서 나가 너희 발의 먼지를 떨어 버리라

10:15 내가 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 심판 날에 소돔과 고모라 땅이 그 성보다 견디기 쉬우리라

9 “Do not get any gold or silver or copper to take with you in your belts— 10 no bag for the journey or extra shirt or sandals or a staff, for the worker is worth his keep. 11 Whatever town or village you enter, search there for some worthy person and stay at their house until you leave. 12 As you enter the home, give it your greeting. 13 If the home is deserving, let your peace rest on it; if it is not, let your peace return to you. 14 If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet. 15 Truly I tell you, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town.

                  어제까지의 말씀으로 우리는 예수님이 행하신 기적들을 보았습니다. 그 기적들은 예수님의 권위와 능력을 보여주었지요. 그런데 어제의 말씀은 예수님께서 권능을 사용하셨던 목적이 바로 긍휼을 베풀기 위해서 였음이라고 전하고 있습니다. 자, 이제 오늘 말씀입니다. 예수님께서 제자들을 단기 선교로 보내십니다. 그들에게 권능을 주시고 예수님이 하셨던 동일한 말씀과 사역을 맡기십니다. 그들 또한 예수님과 같은 마음으로 같은 일을 하게 하신 것입니다. 오늘은 본문 말씀을 통해 “부르심을 받은 자여, 보내신 분을 대표하라” 는 제목으로 말씀을 나누기 원합니다.

Through the passages we have studied recently, we witnessed the miracles performed by Jesus—miracles that demonstrated His absolute authority and power. Yet, as we saw yesterday, the purpose behind that power was always to show compassion.

Today, we see Jesus sending His disciples on a short-term mission. He grants them authority and entrusts them with the very same words and ministry that He Himself performed. He calls them to do His work with His heart. Today, I want to share a message titled: "Called to Represent the Sender."

                  먼저 부르심을 받은 자에 대해서 이야기하겠습니다. 예수님께서 12제자들을 추수할 일꾼으로 부르십니다. 그들에게 권능을 주시고 제자에서 사도로 승격시켜 주십니다. 사도는 “보냄 받은 자” 라는 뜻입니다. 누군가에게서 보냄을 받았다면 그 사람은 보낸 사람과 같은 권위를 부여 받게 됩니다. 보낸 사람을 대표하기 위해서 그렇지요. 제자들의 명단을 보니 참으로 다양한 사람들이 모여있습니다. 그런데 우리가 여기서 주목해야 할 것은 이 사도 명단에 예수님을 배신할 가룟 유다도 포함되어 있다는 사실입니다. 이것은 무엇을 보여주고 있는 걸까요? 예수님의 부르심은 제자들의 자격에 기반한 것이 아니라는 것입니다. 오직 전적으로 예수님의 권위와 위임으로 이루어지는 일이라는 것이지요. 이들이 부르심을 받은 것은 자신의 능력이나 자격 때문이 아닌 것입니다. 오직 예수님께서 이들을 부르시고 이들에게 권능을 주셨기 때문에 이들은 “보냄받은자,” 사도가 되었습니다. 그렇기에 이들은 자신이 아닌 예수님께서 주신 권능을 의지하고 그 부르심에 순종할 때 자신들이 할 수 없었던 놀라운 사역을 감당 할 수 있게 되는 것입니다.

1. From Disciple to Apostle: Authority is Delegated

First, let’s consider those who were called. Jesus calls the twelve disciples to be workers for the harvest. He gives them authority and elevates them from "disciples" to "apostles." The word apostle literally means "one who is sent." When someone is sent by another, they are clothed in the authority of the sender. They represent the person who sent them. As we look at the list of these twelve men, we see a diverse group. But we must notice one striking fact: Judas Iscariot, who would later betray Jesus, is included in this list.

What does this show us? It shows that Jesus’ calling is not based on the merit or qualifications of the disciples. It is an act of pure grace, founded entirely on Jesus’ authority and mandate. They were not made apostles because of their own abilities; they became apostles because Jesus called them and gave them power. Therefore, they could fulfill a ministry far beyond their own strength by simply relying on the authority given to them and obeying the call.

                  자 그렇다면 부름받은 자에게 맡겨진 임무는 무엇이었을까요? 예수님께서는 이들이 전할 말과 해야할 일들을 7-8절에서 알려주십니다. 7절 “가면서 전파하여 말하되 천국이 가까이 왔다 하고” 우리는 예수님께서 광야에서 시험을 마치시고 처음으로 하셨던 말씀이 이와 동일한 말씀이었던 것을 기억합니다. “회개하라 천국이 가까이 왔느니라.” 8절에서 병든 자를 고치며 죽은 자를 살리며 나병 환자를 깨끗하게 하며 귀신을 쫓아내는 사역. 이것은 예수님께서 하셨던 것과 동일한 사역이지요. 예수님께서는 이렇게 이들에게 당신이 선포하셨던 가르치심과 당신이 행하셨던 사역을 그대로 하라고 하십니다. 바로 예수님을 대표하라는 것이지요. 이러한 일이 가능했던 이유는 바로 이들을 보내신 예수님께서 이들에게 권능을 주셨기 때문입니다. 보냄을 받은 자였기에 이들은 보내신 분을 대표할 수 있었던 것입니다.

2. The Mission: To Mirror the Master (Verses 7-8)

What was the mission entrusted to these called ones? In verses 7-8, Jesus defines their message and their work:

"As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’" We remember that these were the exact words Jesus spoke when He began His ministry after His temptation in the wilderness. Furthermore, in verse 8, He commands them to heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those with leprosy, and drive out demons.

This is the exact same ministry Jesus had been doing! He is telling them to reflect His teachings and His actions perfectly. He is telling them to represent Him. This was possible only because the One who sent them also empowered them. As "sent ones," they were authorized to be the living presence of the Sender.

                  그러나 예수님께서는 이들에게 주의해야 할 것도 몇가지 알려주십니다. 그 중에 주목할 만한 것은 이것입니다. 바로 이들이 예수님을 대표함에도 불구하고 사람들은 이들의 복음을 영접할 수도 거절할 수도 있다는 것입니다. 이들을 영접하는 자에게는 이들이 빌었던 평안이 영접하는 자들에게 임할 것입니다. 그러나 그들이 거절한다면 제자들이 빌었던 평안은 제자들에게 돌아올 것이라고 말씀하십니다. 무슨 말씀입니까? 비록 이들의 노력과 수고가 거절 당한다고 할지라도 그것은 소용없는 것이 되지 않는다는 것이지요. 반드시 하나님께서 그 수고와 헌신을 기억하고 그들에게 돌려주신다는 것입니다. 덧붙여 이렇게 말씀하십니다. 14절입니다. “누구든지 너희를 영접하지도 아니하고 너희 말을 듣지도 아니하거든 그 집이나 성에서 나가 너희 발의 먼지를 떨어버리라.” 만약 이들의 사역이 거절 당한다고 해도 그것은 이들의 책임이 아니라는 것입니다. 오히려 거절한 자들을 심판하시겠다고 예수님께서는 말씀하십니다. 그렇다면 이들이 집중해야 할 것은 오직 부르심 받은 대로 보내신 분을 대표하는 것이지요. 실패를 두려워 할 필요가 없는 것입니다.

3. Handling Rejection: The Dust and the Peace (Verses 12-14)

However, Jesus also provides several warnings. One notable point is that even though they represent Jesus, people may still reject their message.

Jesus explains that if they are welcomed, the peace they bless that household with will remain. But if they are rejected, that peace will return to the disciples. What does this mean? It means that even if your hard work and sacrifice are rejected, they are never in vain. God witnesses your devotion and returns that blessing to you.

Furthermore, verse 14 says: "If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet." If the mission is rejected, it is not the disciple's failure or responsibility. In fact, Jesus declares that He will judge those who reject the message. The disciples’ only focus should be to represent the Sender faithfully. There is no need to fear failure.

                  말씀을 맺습니다. 우리는 세상을 향해 나갈 떄 ‘내가 잘해서 사람들을 변화시켜야 한다’는 압박감을 가집니다. 하지만 오늘 예수님은 말씀하십니다. ‘평안을 빌되, 그들이 받지 않으면 그 평안은 다시 너희에게 돌아올 것이다.’ 우리의 사명은 우리의 힘으로 세상을 변화시키는 것이 아니라, 우리를 보내신 예수님을 온전히 ‘대표’하는 것 입니다. 거절의 먼지는 털어버리십시오. 여러분의 수고는 결코 헛되지 않으며, 하나님은 결과가 아닌 여러분의 순종을 기억하십니다. 우리를 부르신 예수님의 권능을 의지하여 오늘 하루 보냄 받은 자로 예수님을 대표하는 삶을 사시는 여러분 되시기를 주님의 이름으로 축원합니다.

[Conclusion]

When we go out into the world, we often feel the heavy pressure of thinking, "I have to do a good job to change people." But today, Jesus tells us: "Bless them with peace; if they don't receive it, that peace will return to you."

Our mission is not to change the world by our own power, but to faithfully 'represent' the Jesus who sent us. Shake off the dust of rejection. Your labor is never useless, and God remembers your obedience rather than your results.

I pray in the name of the Lord that you will rely on the power of Jesus who called you, and that you will live this day as faithful representatives of the One who sent you. Amen.
