3:21 이제는 율법 외에 하나님의 한 의가 나타났으니 율법과 선지자들에게 증거를 받은 것이라

3:22 곧 예수 그리스도를 믿음으로 말미암아 모든 믿는 자에게 미치는 하나님의 의니 차별이 없느니라

3:23 모든 사람이 죄를 범하였으매 하나님의 영광에 이르지 못하더니

3:24 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 속량으로 말미암아 하나님의 은혜로 값없이 의롭다 하심을 얻은 자 되었느니라

3:25 이 예수를 하나님이 그의 피로써 믿음으로 말미암아 화목제물로 세우셨으니 이는 하나님께서 길이 참으시는 중에 전에 지은 죄를 간과하심으로 자기의 의로우심을 나타내려 하심이니

3:26 곧 이 때에 자기의 의로우심을 나타내사 자기도 의로우시며 또한 예수를 믿는 자를 의롭다 하려 하심이라

Righteousness Through Faith

21 But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22 This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 25 God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— 26 he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.

3:27 그런즉 자랑할 데가 어디냐 있을 수가 없느니라 무슨 법으로냐 행위로냐 아니라 오직 믿음의 법으로니라

3:28 그러므로 사람이 의롭다 하심을 얻는 것은 율법의 행위에 있지 않고 믿음으로 되는 줄 우리가 인정하노라

3:29 하나님은 다만 유대인의 하나님이시냐 또한 이방인의 하나님은 아니시냐 진실로 이방인의 하나님도 되시느니라

3:30 할례자도 믿음으로 말미암아 또한 무할례자도 믿음으로 말미암아 의롭다 하실 하나님은 한 분이시니라

3:31 그런즉 우리가 믿음으로 말미암아 율법을 파기하느냐 그럴 수 없느니라 도리어 율법을 굳게 세우느니라

27 Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. Because of what law? The law that requires works? No, because of the law that requires faith. 28 For we maintain that a person is justified by faith apart from the works of the law. 29 Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles too? Yes, of Gentiles too, 30 since there is only one God, who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through that same faith. 31 Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law.

                로마서를 본문으로 우리는 지난주부터 계속 복음이란 무엇인가? 왜 우리는 복음이 필요한가에 대해서 말씀을 나누었습니다. 율법이 있어도 그 율법은 우리의 죄를 깨닫게 할 뿐, 그 어떤 사람도 율법을 만족시키는 사람이 없기에 온 세상은 하나님의 심판 아래에 있다고 어제의 본문 말씀이 전하고 있습니다. 율법의 행위로는 하나님 앞에서 의롭다는 인정을 받을 육체가 없다고 말하고 있지요. 바로 이것이 우리에게 복음이 필요한 이유입니다. 그러나 오늘 본문의 말씀은 우리는 복음으로 구원을 받지만 복음이 단순히 인간의 구원만을 위한 것이 아님을 또한 전하고 있습니다. 그렇다면 인간의 구원을 넘어서는 복음의 의미란 무엇일까요? 로마서 1:17 말씀은 이를 이렇게 말합니다. “복음에는 하나님의 의가 나타나서 믿음으로 믿음에 이르게 하나니 기록된 바 오직 의인은 믿음으로 말미암아 살리라 함과 같으니라” 그렇습니다. 복음은 하나님의 의를 드러내는 것입니다. 하나님의 의가 나타나는 것이 바로 복음입니다. 그리고 우리가 그 하나님의 의를 얻을 수 있는 방법은 바로 예수 그리스도를 믿는 것입니다. 오늘은 믿음으로 하나님의 의를 취하라 라는 제목으로 말씀을 전하기 원합니다.

Last week, we began our study of the book of Romans by asking a fundamental question: What is the Gospel? We also explored why we so desperately need it. As yesterday's passage taught us, the law only reveals our sin. No one is able to perfectly satisfy the law's requirements, which leaves the entire world under God’s judgment. The law cannot justify anyone before God. And this, precisely, is why we need the Gospel.

Yet today’s passage shows us that the Gospel is not merely for our salvation. It is something much bigger than that. So, what is the meaning of the Gospel that goes beyond human salvation? Romans 1:17 tells us, "For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, 'The righteous shall live by faith.'" The Gospel is the revelation of God’s righteousness. The way we can obtain this righteousness is by believing in Jesus Christ.

                첫번째, 복음은 하나님의 의를 나타내는 것입니다. 이 의로움 이라는 단어가 오늘 말씀의 핵심입니다. 어제 말씀에서 율법의 행위로는 하나님 앞에서 의롭다 하심을 얻을 육체가 없다고 말씀하셨었지요. 그렇다면 우리가 하나님 앞에서 의롭다 함을 받으려면 율법이 아닌 다른 무언가가 필요하겠지요. 자, 오늘 말씀 21절을 함께 같이 읽어 보겠습니다. “이제는 율법 외에 하나님의 한 의가 나타났으니 율법과 선지자들에게 증거를 받은 것이라” 하나님이 주셨던 율법으로는 의를 얻을 수 없으나 율법이 아닌 하나님의 의가 나타나셨습니다. 그것이 바로 누구입니까? 네 그렇습니다. 22절의 예수 그리스도이십니다. 우리는 이 의로움의 주어가 누구인지를 기억해야 합니다. 하나님의 의 입니다. 예수님을 믿는 모든 믿는 자에게 하나님의 의가 ‘미치는’ 것입니다. 오늘 말씀의 주어를 보십시오. 23 절, 모든 사람이 죄를 범하였으매 누구의 영광이요? 하나님의 영광에 이르지 못하더니. 24절, 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 속량으로 말미암아 누구의 은혜입니까? 하나님의 은혜로 값없이 의롭다 하심을 얻은 자 되었느니라. 의롭다 하심을 어떻게 하였다구요? 얻었다. 이 의로움이 우리의 것이 아니라는 것입니다. 그렇다면 이 의로움은 누구의 것입니까? 하나님의 것이지요. 복음이란 우리의 구원을 다루고 있지만 궁극적으로 이는 하나님의 의를 드러내기 위함입니다.

Today, I want to preach on this very theme: "Take Hold of God's Righteousness by Faith."

1. The Gospel Reveals God's Righteousness.

The word “righteousness” is the key to our message today. We learned yesterday that no one can be justified before God by the works of the law. If that's the case, we need something other than the law to be made right with God.

Let's read verse 21 together: "But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it." God’s righteousness has been revealed, a righteousness that is separate from the law He gave. Who is this righteousness? As we see in verse 22, it is Jesus Christ.

We must always remember the subject of this righteousness: it is the righteousness of God. This righteousness of God is "on all who believe." Look at the subjects in our passage. Verse 23: "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." And verse 24: "and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus." How are we justified? We receive it as a gift. This righteousness is not ours. Whose is it? It is God's.

Though the Gospel deals with our salvation, its ultimate purpose is to reveal God's righteousness.

그것이 25절의 말씀에 잘 나와있습니다. 한 번 같이 읽어보겠습니다. “이 예수를 하나님이 그의 피로써 믿음으로 말미암는 화목제물로 세우셨으니 이는 하나님께서 길이 참으시는 중에 전에 지은 죄를 간과하심으로 자기의 의로우심을 나타내려 하심이니.” 하나님께서 예수님을 화목제물로 세우셨다고 하십니다. 이 화목제물이라는 단어를 영어 성경은 “만족케하다”라는 단어로 번역하고 있습니다. 우리의 죄악이 하나님의 진노를 일으키는데 그 진노를 만족케 하는 것이 바로 예수 그리스도의 피라는 말씀입니다. 그런데 가만히 보시면 예수님을 화목제물로 세우신 이유를 다음과 같이 말씀하십니다. “이는 하나님께서 길이 참으시는 중에 전에 지은 죄를 간과하심으로 자기의 의로우심을 나타내려 하심이니” 하나님의 의로우심. 하나님의 의는 어떠한 죄도 벌하지 않고 내버려 두실 수 없습니다. 의로운 재판관이 유죄인 사람에게 무죄를 선고한다면 그를 의롭다 할 수 있겠습니까? 만약 하나님께서 죄를 벌하지 않고 내버려두신다면, 우리는 하나님을 의롭다 할 수 있겠습니까? 똑같습니다. 여기서 전에 지은 죄를 간과하심이란, 전에 지은 죄를 벌하지 않고 내버려 둔다는 말씀이 아닙니다. 그 죄를 넘어가신다는 뜻인데, 영어 성경은 이를 유월하신다라고 적고 있습니다. 마치 유월절 어린양의 피를 보고 죽음의 사자가 넘어갔듯이 하나님의 오래 참으심이 우리의 죄악들을 보시는 것이 아니라 예수 그리스도의 피를 보시고 넘어가신다는 것입니다. 우리의 죄악들에 대한 벌을 유월절 어린양 되신 예수 그리스도께서 그 생명으로 받으셨다는 것이지요. 이것이 바로 하나님께서 당신의 의를 드러내시는 방법입니다. 그리고 우리 또한 하나님의 의를 입기를 원하십니다. 그것이 26절의 말씀입니다.

This is clearly explained in verse 25. Let’s read it together: "whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins."

The ESV translates the word "propitiation" to mean "a sacrifice that bears God's wrath and turns it into favor." Our sin brings about God’s wrath, and Jesus' blood is what satisfies that wrath. But notice why God put Jesus forward as this sacrifice: "to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins." God's righteousness cannot simply overlook sin without punishing it. Would we consider a righteous judge righteous if he declared a guilty person innocent? Similarly, if God simply ignored sin, could we call Him righteous?

The phrase "passed over former sins" does not mean that God simply ignored them. It means He passed over them, as if He was skipping them. The ESV uses the word "passed over" (transliterated as "유월") which is the same root as the word used for the Passover. Just as the angel of death passed over the homes covered by the blood of the Passover lamb, God's patience passed over our sins by seeing the blood of Jesus Christ instead. The punishment for our sins was taken by Jesus, our Passover Lamb, who laid down His life. This is how God reveals His righteousness. And He also desires for us to be covered by His righteousness. This is the truth of verse 26.

                두번째, 우리는 믿음으로 하나님의 의를 취해야합니다. 앞에서 우리는 계속 우리의 어떠함이 아닌 하나님의 의에 대해서 말씀을 나누었습니다. 그렇다면 우리에게 자랑할 것이 있겠습니까? 아무것도 없지요. 오직 하나님의 의로우심만을 바랄 뿐입니다. 그렇다면 그 의로우심을 우리는 어떻게 취할 수 있을까요? 네, 예수 그리스도를 믿음으로 하나님의 의가 우리에게 미치게 됩니다. 오늘의 말씀의 또 다른 핵심 단어가 바로 믿음입니다. 22절, “예수 그리스도를 믿음으로 말미암아 모든 믿는 자에게 미치는 하나님의 의니 차별이 없느니라” 25절, “이 예수를 하나님이 그의 피로써 믿음으로 말미암는 화목제물로 세우셨으니” 26절, “또한 예수 믿는 자를 의롭다 하려 하심이라.” 28절은 함께 읽어보겠습니다. “그러므로 사람이 의롭다 하심을 얻는 것은 율법의 행위에 있지 않고 믿음으로 되는 줄 우리가 인정하노라.”  하나님의 의를 취하는 유일한 방법이 무엇이라고 하십니까? 바로 예수 그리스도를 믿는 믿음입니다. 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 속량을 믿는 것, 그 믿음으로 값없이 의롭다 하심을 받는 하나님의 은혜. 이것이 바로 복음인 것입니다.

2. We Must Take Hold of God's Righteousness by Faith.

We have been discussing God’s righteousness, not our own. So, what is there for us to boast about? Nothing. We can only boast in God’s righteousness alone. So, how can we take hold of this righteousness? It is by believing in Jesus Christ. This word "faith" is another key to our passage today.

Verse 22 says, "the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe." Verse 25 says, "whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith." Verse 26 says, "He himself is righteous and He justifies the one who has faith in Jesus." Let’s read verse 28 together: "For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law."

What is the only way to take hold of God’s righteousness? It is by faith in Jesus Christ. It is by believing in the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, and by that faith, receiving the grace of God to be justified as a gift. This is the Gospel.

                말씀을 맺습니다. 복음은 지금 우리에게 나타내신 하나님의 의입니다. 하나님의 의로우심이 예수 그리스도의 피를 통해 속량하심으로 나타난 것이 바로 복음입니다. 예수 그리스도의 생명은 하나님의 의를 만족시키셨고 율법을 완성하셨습니다. 이 복음을 통해 우리를 구원하고자 하셨던 하나님의 오래참음과 사랑이 모든 믿는 자에게 값없이 주어진 것입니다. 하나님의 의는 이미 예수 그리스도를 통해 나타나셨습니다. 우리가 예수 그리스도를 믿을 때에 그 하나님의 의가 우리에게 미치게 됩니다. 우리의  행위와 우리의 육체를 덮고 하나님 앞에서 의롭다 하심을 받게 되는 것입니다. 믿음으로 하나님의 의를 취하시는 여러분 되시기를 주님의 이름으로 축원합니다.  

Conclusion

The Gospel is God's righteousness revealed to us now. It is the righteousness of God manifested through the redemption by Jesus Christ's blood. Jesus’ life satisfied God’s righteousness and fulfilled the law. Through this Gospel, God's patience and love, which sought to save us, are given freely to all who believe.

God's righteousness has already been manifested through Jesus Christ. When we believe in Him, God's righteousness is credited to us. It covers our works and our flesh, so we can be justified before God.
