73:15 내가 만일 스스로 이르기를 내가 그들처럼 말하리라 하였더라면 나는 주의 아들들의 세대에 대하여 악행을 행하였으리이다

73:16 내가 어쩌면 이를 알까 하여 생각한즉 그것이 내게 심한 고통이 되었더니

73:17 하나님의 성소에 들어갈 때에야 그들의 종말을 내가 깨달았나이다

15 If I had spoken out like that,

    I would have betrayed your children.

16 When I tried to understand all this,

    it troubled me deeply

17 till I entered the sanctuary of God;

    then I understood their final destiny.

73:18 주께서 참으로 그들을 미끄러운 곳에 두시며 파멸에 던지시니

73:19 그들이 어찌하여 그리 갑자기 황폐되었는가 놀랄 정도로 그들은 전멸하였나이다

73:20 주여 사람이 깬 후에는 꿈을 무시함 같이 주께서 깨신 후에는 그들의 형상을 멸시하시리이다

18 Surely you place them on slippery ground;

    you cast them down to ruin.

19 How suddenly are they destroyed,

    completely swept away by terrors!

20 They are like a dream when one awakes;

    when you arise, Lord,

    you will despise them as fantasies.

73:21 내 마음이 산란하며 내 양심이 찔렸나이다

73:22 내가 이같이 우매 무지함으로 주 앞에 짐승이오나

21 When my heart was grieved

    and my spirit embittered,

22 I was senseless and ignorant;

    I was a brute beast before you.

73:23 내가 항상 주와 함께 하니 주께서 내 오른손을 붙드셨나이다

73:24 주의 교훈으로 나를 인도하시고 후에는 영광으로 나를 영접하시리니

73:25 하늘에서는 주 외에 누가 내게 있으리요 땅에서는 주 밖에 내가 사모할 이 없나이다

73:26 내 육체와 마음은 쇠약하나 하나님은 내 마음의 반석이시요 영원한 분깃이시라

23 Yet I am always with you;

    you hold me by my right hand.

24 You guide me with your counsel,

    and afterward you will take me into glory.

25 Whom have I in heaven but you?

    And earth has nothing I desire besides you.

26 My flesh and my heart may fail,

    but God is the strength of my heart

    and my portion forever.

73:27 무릇 주를 멀리하는 자는 망하리니 음녀 같이 주를 떠난 자를 주께서 다 멸하셨나이다

73:28 하나님께 가까이 함이 내게 복이라 내가 주 여호와를 나의 피난처로 삼아 주의 모든 행적을 전파하리이다

27 Those who are far from you will perish;

    you destroy all who are unfaithful to you.

28 But as for me, it is good to be near God.

    I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge;

    I will tell of all your deeds.

오늘 계속해서 아삽의 시를 살펴봅니다. 어제 신앙이 흔들리기까지한 시인의 고뇌를 살펴봤습니다. 세상 속 악인들의 형통함을 보고 그는 도저히 이해되지 않는 극심한 절망과 혼란을 겪었습니다. 하나님을 믿지 않은 사람들은 속 편하고 잘만 사는 것 같은데 정직하게 살아온 자신은 고난을 겪으니 이해할 수 없지요. 그럴 때 15절에 그가 고백한 것처럼 “나도 그냥 그들처럼 살고말지”하는 유혹이 인생 가운데 훅훅 들어옵니다. 그런 그의 후회와 원망이 180도 전환되는 것이 오늘의 본문입니다. 그 전환이 언제 이뤄지나요? 17절을 보면 답이 나옵니다. “하나님의 성소에 들어갈 때에야 그들의 종말을 내가 깨달았나이다” (시편 73:17). 그는 하나님의 임재 장소인 성소, 곧 성전에서 비로소 하나님의 뜻을 알게됩니다.

Today, we continue to look at the psalm of Asaph. Yesterday, we examined the psalmist’s anguish to the point where even his faith was shaken. Seeing the prosperity of the wicked in the world, he experienced extreme despair and confusion that he couldn’t comprehend. People who don’t believe in God seem to live comfortably and well, while he, who has lived uprightly, suffers—something he just couldn’t understand. In such moments, as he confessed in verse 15, the temptation to say, “I might as well live like them,” creeps into life. Today’s passage shows a 180-degree turn from that regret and bitterness. When did that transformation happen? The answer comes in verse 17: “Then I understood their final destiny, when I entered the sanctuary of God” (Psalm 73:17). It was in the sanctuary—God’s place of presence, the temple—that he came to understand God's will.

하나님의 성소에 들어간다는 말은 곧 하나님께 예배하는 자리로 나아갔다는 말이됩니다. 이것이 우리가 예배를 하는 이유이고 가장 중요한 우선순위가 되어야 하는 이유입니다. 예배는 우리의 정체성이자 우리와 세상 사람들이 가지는 가장 큰 차이점입니다. 우리가 예배할 때 하나님의 시선을 가지게 되고 하나님의 뜻을 알게됩니다. 이처럼 하나님의 시선으로 세상을 바라볼 때, 더 이상 세상 사람들이 가지고 있는 형통을 보고 부러워 하지 않을 수 있게 됩니다. 이렇게 예배를 통해 얻은 깨달음으로 자유를 누리는 아삽의 시를 함께 살펴봅시다.

Entering the sanctuary of God means coming into a place of worship. This is why we worship and why worship must be our highest priority. Worship is our identity, and it is the greatest distinction between us and the world. When we worship, we begin to see with God’s perspective and understand His will. With this heavenly viewpoint, we are no longer envious of the world’s prosperity. Let’s explore Asaph’s psalm together and the freedom that came through this spiritual insight.

첫 번째로 악인의 끝은 멸망입니다. 세상이 제시하는 성공은 명성, 돈, 소유물 등에 판가름 납니다. 이것들은 당장에 쉽게 눈에 보이고 드러나는 것들입니다. 이들은 마치 자신들이 천년 만년 살 것처럼 생각하고 행동합니다. 그러나 아삽에게 하나님이 주신 깨달음에서는 이들의 끝을 정확하게 알려줍니다. 그것은 곧 파멸이고 전멸입니다. 19절을 우리말 성경으로보면 다음과 같습니다. “그들이 멸망하는 게 얼마나 갑작스럽던지, 그들이 공포에 완전히 휩쓸려 버렸습니다!” 이때 사용된 ‘멸망’이라는 단어는 ‘경악, 오싹함, 공포’라는 뜻도 포함하는 명사입니다. 그러니 공포스럽고도 오싹한 멸망은 눈 깜짝할 순간에 갑자기 찾아온다는 것입니다. 그리고 마지막 때의 심판은 누구도 피해갈 수 없습니다. 우리가 먼저 죽던지 예수님이 먼저 오시던지 둘 중에 하나입니다. 100년도 되지 않는 인생을 영생에 비교해보면 정말 순식간인 시간입니다. 그리고 이 짧은 시간에 내린 결정이 영생을 좌우한다는 것은 엄청난 진리입니다. 모두에게 같은 기회가 주어졌지만 이 진리를 깨닫지 못한 자들은 마지막 때가 됐을 때 슬피울며 이를 갈겠죠.

First, the end of the wicked is destruction.The world defines success by fame, wealth, and possessions. These things are visible and flashy. People live as if they will last forever. But God gave Asaph a clear understanding of their end—it is destruction and total ruin. Verse 19 in the Korean version of the Bible says:

“How suddenly are they destroyed, completely swept away by terrors!”

The word for “destruction” here includes meanings like “shock,” “dread,” and “terror.” It indicates that this horrifying ruin will come suddenly and without warning. And no one will escape the final judgment—whether we die first or Jesus returns first, one of those two will come. Compared to eternity, a life of less than 100 years is but a moment. That the choices we make in such a short time determine our eternal fate is an immense truth. Everyone is given the same opportunity, but those who do not grasp it will weep and gnash their teeth in the end.

또한 시인은 20절에서 “주여 사람이 깬 후에는 꿈을 무시함같이 주께서 깨신 후에는 그들의 형상을 멸시하시리이다”라고 고백합니다. 그들의 형통은 끝에 가서 아무런 소용이 없습니다. 그들은 빈 손으로 이 땅에 태어났을 때처럼 빈 손으로 돌아갈 뿐입니다. 한 순간의 꿈처럼 다 사라질 것 입니다. 솔로몬 왕의 고백처럼 헛되고 헛된 것이 인생입니다. 그러나 가끔은 간접 경험이 아니라 솔로몬의 왕처럼 가질거 다 가져보고 직접 경험한 후, “아 내가 다 가져봤더니 인생이 헛되더라” 고백해보고 싶은 마음이 드는 것도 사실입니다. 시인도 고백합니다. “내 마음이 산란하여 내 양심이 찔렸나이다” (21절). 이런 마음이 드는 것을 가감없이 예배 자리로 가져와 하나님께 쏟아 놓을 때, 하나님은 우리의 시선을 들어 그 관점을 바꿔주실 것입니다. 내가 가지지 못한 것을 다른 사람과 비교하며 배 아파하는 것이 아니라 나에게 주어진 것에서 충만과 기쁨이 넘쳐날 것입니다.

In verse 20, the psalmist also says:

“As a dream when one awakes, so when you arise, O Lord, you will despise them as fantasies.”

Their prosperity will prove meaningless in the end. Just as they came into this world with nothing, they will leave with nothing. It will all vanish like a fleeting dream. As King Solomon said, life is meaningless and futile. Still, sometimes we wish we could have everything Solomon did and then say from personal experience, “I had it all, and it was still meaningless.”

Asaph confesses:

“When my heart was grieved and my spirit embittered…” (verse 21).

When we bring such honest feelings into worship and pour them out before God, He lifts our eyes and changes our perspective. Instead of resenting what we lack compared to others, we find fullness and joy in what we have been given.

두 번째로 우리의 축복은 하나님이 함께 하심입니다. 먼저 시인은 23절에서 하나님이 항상 함께 하시고 더불어 오른손을 붙드셨다고 고백합니다. 이 고백은 즉 그의 힘이 원천적으로 하나님에게서부터 왔다는 고백입니다. 내 스스로를 의지하며 사는 삶이 아니라 이 세상을 지으신 하나님에게서부터 공급받는 힘으로 사는 삶이란 얼마나 놀라운 삶입니까? 키즈 아이들에게 성령님의 내주하심을 설명할 때 자주 하는 말이 있습니다. “예수님을 죽음에서 일으킨 성령님의 그 같은 능력이 지금 너희들과 함께 하고 있다.” 죽은 자를 살리는 힘이라면 뭔들 못하겠습니까? 한낱 인간이 스스로를 의지하는 것이 아니라 전지전능하시고 무소부재 하시는 하나님의 힘을 의지합시다. 그리하여 우리를 통해 역사하실 주님의 영광스러운 계획에 기대하는 여러분 되시길 기도드립니다. 그랬을 때 주님은 우리를 끝까지 놓지않으시고 견인하사 하늘의 영광을 주실 줄로 믿습니다.

Second, our true blessing is that God is with us. In verse 23, the psalmist confesses that God is always with him and holds him by his right hand. This is a confession that his strength comes entirely from God. Life is not about relying on ourselves, but about living by the strength that comes from the Creator of all. What an amazing life that is!

When explaining the Holy Spirit’s indwelling to kids, I often say,

“The same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead is now with you.”

If that power can raise the dead, what can’t it do? Rather than relying on our own strength, may we trust the omnipotent and omnipresent God to work through us for His glorious plan. I pray that you will live with this expectation. And when we do, I believe the Lord will never let us go and will ultimately bring us to heavenly glory.

또한 24절에 하나님이 친히 가르치고 인도하신다고 고백합니다. 세상은 수없이 많고 다양한 수법과 꾀를 통해 오직 성공만을 위해 전진합니다. 그러나 하나님의 방식은 다르죠. 조금 더디더라도 조금 답답해보이더라도 하나님의 인도하심을 믿고 따르며 정직함을 선택합니다. 우리는 비록 연약하고 쉽게 흔들립니다. 하지만 “하나님은 내 마음의 반석이시요 영원한 분깃이시라”와 같은 26절의 고백이 나올 수 있는 것은 우리가 예배를 포기하지 않을 때 가능합니다. 주님께는 우리가 연약함을 들고 예배 자리 가운데로 나온다면 그 연약함을 받아 우리의 눈을 변화시켜 주님을 보게 하실 것입니다. 아삽처럼 말입니다. 하나님의 성소에 들어간 자의 고백이 완전히 바꼈습니다. 더 이상 악인들의 형통을 바라보며 배 아파하고 회의감에 빠졌던 시인은 없습니다. 그는 28절에서 당당히 말합니다. “하나님께서 가까이함이 내게 복이라 내가 주 여호와를 나의 피난처로 삼아 주의 모든 행적을 전파하리이다.” 오늘 이 자리에 하나님과 함께하며 참된 복을 누리시길 기도드립니다.

In verse 24, the psalmist also confesses that God Himself teaches and guides him.

The world charges ahead, using countless tactics and schemes in pursuit of success. But God’s ways are different. Even if His ways seem slower or more frustrating at times, we choose honesty and trust in His guidance. We are weak and easily shaken, but verse 26 says:

“God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

Such a confession becomes possible when we do not give up on worship. If we come to the place of worship with our weaknesses, God will take those weaknesses and transform our vision so we can see Him clearly. Just like Asaph. The confession of someone who entered God’s sanctuary has completely changed. The psalmist is no longer consumed with envy or cynicism over the prosperity of the wicked. In verse 28, he declares boldly:

“But as for me, it is good to be near God. I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge; I will tell of all your deeds.”

May you, too, draw near to God today and enjoy the true blessing of His presence.
