36:1 요셉 자손의 종족 중 므낫세의 손자 마길의 아들 길르앗 자손 종족들의 수령들이 나아와 모세와 이스라엘 자손의 수령 된 지휘관들 앞에 말하여

36:2 이르되 여호와께서 우리 주에게 명령하사 이스라엘 자손에게 제비 뽑아 그 기업의 땅을 주게 하셨고 여호와께서 또 우리 주에게 명령하사 우리 형제 슬로브핫의 기업을 그의 딸들에게 주게 하셨은즉

36:3 그들이 만일 이스라엘 자손의 다른 지파들의 남자들의 아내가 되면 그들의 기업은 우리 조상의 기업에서 떨어져 나가고 그들이 속할 그 지파의 기업에 첨가되리니 그러면 우리가 제비 뽑은 기업에서 떨어져 나갈 것이요

36:4 이스라엘 자손의 희년을 당하여 그 기업이 그가 속한 지파에 첨가될 것이라 그런즉 그들의 기업은 우리 조상 지파의 기업에서 아주 삭감되리이다

1 The family heads of the clan of Gilead son of Makir, the son of Manasseh, who were from the clans of the descendants of Joseph, came and spoke before Moses and the leaders, the heads of the Israelite families. 2 They said, “When the Lord commanded my lord to give the land as an inheritance to the Israelites by lot, he ordered you to give the inheritance of our brother Zelophehad to his daughters. 3 Now suppose they marry men from other Israelite tribes; then their inheritance will be taken from our ancestral inheritance and added to that of the tribe they marry into. And so part of the inheritance allotted to us will be taken away. 4 When the Year of Jubilee for the Israelites comes, their inheritance will be added to that of the tribe into which they marry, and their property will be taken from the tribal inheritance of our ancestors.”

36:5 모세가 여호와의 말씀으로 이스라엘 자손에게 명령하여 이르되 요셉 자손 지파의 말이 옳도다

36:6 슬로브핫의 딸들에게 대한 여호와의 명령이 이러하니라 이르시되 슬로브핫의 딸들은 마음대로 시집가려니와 오직 그 조상 지파의 종족에게로만 시집갈지니

36:7 그리하면 이스라엘 자손의 기업이 이 지파에서 저 지파로 옳기지 않고 이스라엘 자손이 다 각기 조상 지파의 기업을 지킬 것이니라 하셨나니

36:8 이스라엘 자손의 지파 중 그 기업을 이은 딸들은 모두 자기 조상 지파의 종족되는 사람의 아내가 될 것이라 그리하면 이스라엘 자손이 각기 조상의 기업을 보전하게 되어

36:9 그 기업이 이 지파에서 저 지파로 옮기게 하지 아니하고 이스라엘 자손 지파가 각각 자기 기업을 지키리라

5 Then at the Lord’s command Moses gave this order to the Israelites: “What the tribe of the descendants of Joseph is saying is right. 6 This is what the Lord commands for Zelophehad’s daughters: They may marry anyone they please as long as they marry within their father’s tribal clan. 7 No inheritance in Israel is to pass from one tribe to another, for every Israelite shall keep the tribal inheritance of their ancestors. 8 Every daughter who inherits land in any Israelite tribe must marry someone in her father’s tribal clan, so that every Israelite will possess the inheritance of their ancestors. 9 No inheritance may pass from one tribe to another, for each Israelite tribe is to keep the land it inherits.”

36:10 슬로브핫의 딸들이 여호와께서 모세에게 명령하신 대로 행하니라

36:11 슬로브핫의 딸 말라와 디르사와 호글라와 밀가와 노아가 다 그들의 숙부의 아들들의 아내가 되니라

36:12 그들이 요셉의 아들 므낫세 자손의 종족에게 아내가 되었으므로 그들의 종족 지파에 그들의 기업이 남아 있었더라

10 So Zelophehad’s daughters did as the Lord commanded Moses. 11 Zelophehad’s daughters—Mahlah, Tirzah, Hoglah, Milkah and Noah—married their cousins on their father’s side. 12 They married within the clans of the descendants of Manasseh son of Joseph, and their inheritance remained in their father’s tribe and clan.

36:13 이는 여리고 맞은편 요단 가 모압 평지에서 여호와께서 모세를 통하여 이스라엘 자손에게 명령하신 계명과 규례니라

13 These are the commands and regulations the Lord gave through Moses to the Israelites on the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho.

                  오늘 말씀을 마지막으로 지난 3월부터 시작했던 민수기 묵상이 대장정의 막을 내립니다. 총 36장에 달하는 방대한 분량의 이야기였지요. 그 이야기 중에는 행군 매뉴얼도 있었고, 율법도 있었고 서사도 있었습니다. 그렇다면 광야에서의 40년을 다룬 이 이야기를 한마디로 요약하면 무엇이 될까요? 바로 하나님과 함께 약속의 땅을 향해 가는 여정이라고 볼 수 있겠습니다. 자 우리는 이 여정의 끝에 와있습니다. 이제 약속의 땅으로 들어가는 일만 남았습니다. 그렇다면 그 대미를 장식하는 36장의 말씀은 뭔가 멋진 끝맺음을 해줘야 할 것 같습니다. 예를 들면 피를 끓게 하는 화려한 연설 같은 것 말이지요. 그러나 오늘 36장의 말씀은 기업과 유산이라는 다소 의외의 주제로 민수기를 마무리 하고 있습니다. 그러나 민수기 전체가 하나님께서 주신 약속의 땅. 하나님이 주시는 기업을 얻으러 가는 내용임을 생각한다면 이 또한 꽤 의미심장한 결말입니다. 왜냐하면 오늘의 말씀은 하나님이 주시는 기업을 어떻게 잘 보존하고 지키는가에 대한 이야기이기 때문입니다. 하나님께서 약속하신 땅. 분명히 그들에게 주실 것입니다. 그렇다면 그 땅을 기업으로 받는 그들은 어떻게 그 땅을 잘 보존하고 지킬 수 있을까요? 그렇습니다. 오늘은 본문을 통하여 하나님이 주시는 기업을 보존하라는 제목으로 말씀을 나눠보겠습니다.

Good morning, church. Today's message marks the end of our journey through the Book of Numbers, which we started back in March. It's been an extensive narrative spanning 36 chapters, filled with marching manuals, laws, and various stories. So, if we were to summarize this 40-year journey through the wilderness in one phrase, what would it be? It's the journey towards the Promised Land, hand-in-hand with God.

We now stand at the very end of this journey. All that's left is to enter the Promised Land. Given this, we might expect chapter 36 to offer a magnificent, perhaps even fiery, speech to conclude this grand saga. Yet, today's passage ends Numbers with a rather unexpected topic: inheritance and legacy. At first glance, it might feel a bit anticlimactic. However, when we consider that the entire book of Numbers is about receiving the Promised Land—the inheritance God has given—then this ending makes perfect sense. Why? Because today's passage is about how to preserve and protect the inheritance God gives us. God promised them the land, and it will surely be theirs. So, how can they, the recipients of this inheritance, properly preserve and protect it? Yes, today we will look at this passage under the title, "Preserving God's Inheritance."

                  첫번째, 하나님께서 기업을 주셨는데 문제가 생깁니다. 자, 오늘 본문의 말씀은 슬로브핫의 딸들에 대한 말씀입니다. 우리 27장에서 한 번 다룬 적이 있지요. 그 때의 문제는 뭐였습니까? 요셉의 아들 므낫세 종족의 사람 중에 슬로브핫이 아들이 없이 죽었습니다. 딸만 넷 있어요. 슬로브핫의 기업을 아들에게 물려줘야 하는데 아들이 없고 딸만 있으니 기업을 물려받을 사람이 없어요. 하나님께서 주시는 기업이 사라지게 생겼어요. 그래서 하나님께서 모세에게 27:8에 “사람이 죽고 아들이 없으면 그의 기업을 그의 딸에게 돌릴 것이요”라고 방안을 마련해 주십니다. 그래서 이 문제를 가지고 온 슬로브핫의 딸들은 아버지의 기업을 물려받을 수 있게 되었습니다. 문제가 다 해결된 것처럼 보였어요. 그런데 오늘 말씀을 보니 이 문제가 그냥 그렇게 해결되면 좋았을텐데 또 다른 문제가 생겨요. 재미있는 것은 슬로브핫의 딸들에게는 아무런 문제가 없었습니다. 자신들은 아버지의 기업을 물려받았어요. 그쵸? 한 개인의 입장에서 생각하면 잃을 뻔한 기업을 받게 되었으니 이제는 그 기업을 가지고 어떻게 하든 상관이 없어요. 자 이 말씀을 왜 드리냐면 슬로브핫의 딸들 입장에서는 아버지 기업을 받았으니까 내가 누구랑 결혼하든 상관 없어요. 어차피 나와 내 남편 그리고 내 자식에게 아버지의 기업이 보존될 테니까요. 그런데 그 슬로브핫이 속해 있던 므낫세 지파 사람들에게는 이것이 큰 문제가 될 수 있습니다. 한 개인에게는 문제가 안되는 일이었는데 공동체로 보니까 상황이 많이 달라요. 그래서 슬로브핫의 기업에 관한 일인데 그 딸들이 아니라 누가 나옵니까? 1절 한번 같이 읽겠습니다. “요셉 자손의 종족 중 므낫세의 손자 마길의 아들 길르앗 자손 종족들의 수령들이 나아와 모세와 이스라엘 자손의 수령 된 지휘관들 앞에 말하여.” 자 종족들의 수령들이 나아와요. 자 그리고는 지금까지 저희가 했던 얘기를 합니다. 2절입니다. 슬로브핫의 딸들에게 기업을 주셨습니다. 3절, 그들이 만일 다른지파 남자에게 시집가면 우리 지파의 기업인데 그 시집간 남자의 지파로 들어가게 되는 것 아닙니까? 그렇죠. 이것은 므낫세 지파 입장에서는 큰 문제이지요. 하나님께서 기업을 주셨는데 그 기업을 잃을 수도 있는 문제가 생긴 것이에요.

1. God Gives an Inheritance, But a Problem Arises.

Today's passage is about Zelophehad's daughters. We touched on their story once before, in Numbers chapter 27. What was the problem then? Zelophehad, from the clan of Manasseh, the son of Joseph, died without any sons. He had only four daughters. Zelophehad's inheritance was supposed to pass to a son, but with only daughters, there was no one to receive the inheritance. It looked like the inheritance God had given would simply disappear. So, God provided a solution to Moses in Numbers 27:8 (NIV): "If a man dies and has no son, turn his inheritance over to his daughter." As a result, Zelophehad's daughters, who brought this issue to Moses, were able to receive their father's inheritance. It seemed like the problem was fully resolved.

But as we read today's passage, we see that it would have been nice if the problem had just ended there, but another issue arose. The interesting thing is, for Zelophehad's daughters themselves, there was no problem. They had received their father's inheritance, right? From an individual's perspective, they had received an inheritance they almost lost, so now it wouldn't matter what they did with it. They might think, "Since I've received my father's inheritance, it doesn't matter who I marry. My father's inheritance will be preserved for me, my husband, and our children anyway."

However, for the tribe of Manasseh, to which Zelophehad belonged, this could become a major problem. What wasn't an issue for an individual became a very different situation when viewed from the perspective of the entire community. So, concerning Zelophehad's inheritance, it's not the daughters who come forward, but who? Let's read verse 1 together: "The family heads of the clan of Gilead son of Makir, the son of Manasseh, came forward and presented their case before Moses and the leaders who were the heads of the Israelite families." The heads of the clans come forward.

And they present the very issue we've been discussing. Look at verse 2: "They said, 'When the Lord commanded my lord to give the land as an inheritance to the Israelites by lot, he also commanded you, my lord, to give the inheritance of our brother Zelophehad to his daughters.'" Then in verse 3, they state: "Now if they marry men from other Israelite tribes, their inheritance will be taken from our ancestral inheritance and added to that of the tribe into which they marry. Then the total area of our inheritance by lot will be reduced." That's right. This was a significant problem for the tribe of Manasseh. God had given them an inheritance, but now there was a risk of losing it.

                  자 여기서 두번째, 말씀에 순종함으로 하나님이 주신 기업을 보존하라. 자, 이 말씀을 들으신 하나님께서 네 말이 옳다 라고 하십니다. 그게 5절이지요. 그리고 6절에서 이들에게 명령하십니다. 무어라고 명령하세요? 너희들은 마음대로 시집을 가되 오직 그 조상 지파의 종족에게로만 시집갈지니. 7절, 그리하면 “이스라엘 자손이 다 각기 조상 지파의 기업을 지킬 것이니라.” 자 해결책이 나왔습니다. 무엇입니까? “다른 지파로 시집가지 마라” 입니다. 간단하게 생각하면 아주 간편한 해결책입니다. 그런데 슬로브핫의 딸들 입장에서는 조금 다를 수 있지요. 아니 내 형제 중에 남자가 없는 게 우리 탓이 아닌데 그것 때문에 우리가 원하는 사람과 결혼 할 수 없다니 그게 무슨 말입니까? 라고 생각할 수 있는 것이지요. 공동체를 위해서 자신의 선택권을 포기해야 하는 것입니다. 아까도 말씀드렸듯이 이미 자기 아버지의 기업이 자신들에게 주어졌기 때문에 그냥 입 싹 닫고 모르는 척 할 수도 있는거에요. 아 뭐래, 난 지금 사귀고 있는 유다지파 남자랑 결혼 할거야. 라고도 할 수 있는거에요. 하지만 10절에서 뭐라고 얘기합니까? “슬로브핫의 딸들이 여호와께서 모세에게 명령하신 대로 행하니라” 그들은 말씀에 순종하였습니다. 자신들의 권익보다 공동체를 우선했습니다. 그 결과가 무엇입니까? 12절 “그들의 종족 지파에 그들의 기업이 남아 있었더라” 여러분 이것이 오늘 말씀의 주제입니다. 오늘 말씀은 13절의 말씀 가운데 ‘기업’ 이라는 단어가 총 15번이나 나옵니다. 그리고 방금 말씀드린 기업이 남아있었더라, 기업을 보존한다, 기업을 지킨다, 바로 이 말씀이 오늘 말씀의 핵심인 것입니다. 슬로브핫의 딸들에게 주어진 기업은 그저 단순히 그들만이 누리는 권리가 아니었습니다. 그들에게 주어진 기업은 그들 개인이 아니라 공동체에게 주신 하나님의 약속이기 때문입니다. 그들은 그것을 알았기 때문에 말씀에 순종함으로 하나님이 그들 뿐만 아니라 그들의 공동체에게 주신 기업을 보존 할 수 있었습니다.

2. Preserve God's Inheritance by Obeying His Word.

Now, God heard this matter and declared, "What the descendants of Joseph are saying is right." (verse 5). And in verse 6, He commanded them: "This is what the Lord commands concerning Zelophehad’s daughters: They may marry anyone they please as long as they marry within their father’s ancestral tribe." Verse 7 explains why: "So that no inheritance in Israel will pass from one tribe to another, for every Israelite shall keep the ancestral inheritance of their own tribe."

So, the solution was given. What is it? "Do not marry into another tribe." Simply put, it's a straightforward solution. But from the perspective of Zelophehad's daughters, it might have felt different. "It's not our fault that our father had no sons, so why should we be unable to marry the person we want?" they might think. They were being asked to sacrifice their personal choice for the sake of the community. As I mentioned earlier, since their father's inheritance had already been granted to them, they could have just kept quiet and ignored the situation. They could have said, "What's the big deal? I'm going to marry the man from the tribe of Judah I'm dating."

But what does verse 10 say? "So Zelophehad’s daughters did as the Lord commanded Moses." They obeyed the word. They prioritized the community over their own rights. And what was the result? Verse 12: "Their inheritance remained in their father’s tribal clan."

This, my friends, is the theme of today's message. In today's passage, the word "inheritance" appears 15 times in total, right up to verse 13. And as I just mentioned, "their inheritance remained," "preserving the inheritance," "keeping the inheritance"—these phrases are the core of today's message. The inheritance given to Zelophehad's daughters was not merely a right they could enjoy individually. It was God's promise given not just to them, but to their community. They understood this, and by obeying God's word, they were able to preserve the inheritance God had given not only to them but to their entire community.

                  말씀을 맺습니다. 오늘 우리는 민수기 36장을 통해 하나님이 주신 기업을 보존하는 지혜를 배웠습니다. 슬로브핫의 딸들은 개인의 권리보다 공동체의 질서와 하나님의 뜻에 순종함으로 기업을 지켜낼 수 있었습니다. 이것은 오늘날 우리에게도 동일한 메시지를 줍니다. 하나님께서 우리에게 주신 가정, 교회라는 소중한 기업을 지키기 위해 우리는 무엇을 해야 할까요? 바로 나의 주장보다 하나님의 말씀에 순종하고, 공동체의 유익을 먼저 생각하는 지혜입니다. 슬로브핫의 딸들처럼, 우리도 말씀에 순종함으로 우리의 가정을 굳건히 세우고, 교회 공동체를 건강하게 하며, 하나님이 맡기신 모든 기업을 지켜내는 복된 삶을 살아가시기를 주님의 이름으로 축원합니다.

Conclusion

To conclude, today we learned the wisdom of preserving the inheritance God gives us through Numbers 36. Zelophehad's daughters were able to protect their inheritance by obeying God's will and the community's order, rather than prioritizing their individual rights.

This same message applies to us today. What should we do to protect the precious inheritance God has given us – our families and our church? It is the wisdom of obeying God's Word over our own desires, and putting the good of the community first.

Like Zelophehad's daughters, I pray that we too will live lives of blessing, upholding our families, strengthening our church community, and preserving every inheritance God has entrusted to us, all through our obedience to His Word.
