8:1 여호와께서 또 모세에게 말씀하여 이르시되

8:2 아론에게 말하여 이르라 등불을 켤 때에는 일곱 등잔을 등잔대 앞으로 비추게 할지니라 하시매

1 The Lord said to Moses, 2 “Speak to Aaron and say to him, ‘When you set up the lamps, see that all seven light up the area in front of the lampstand.’”

8:3 아론이 그리하여 등불을 등잔대 앞으로 비추도록 켰으니 여호와께서 모세에게 명령하심과 같았더라

8:4 이 등잔대의 제작법은 이러하니 곧 금을 쳐서 만든 것인데 밑판에서 그 꽃까지 쳐서 만든 것이라 모세가 여호와께 자기에게 보이신 양식을 따라 이 등잔대를 만들었더라

3 Aaron did so; he set up the lamps so that they faced forward on the lampstand, just as the Lord commanded Moses. 4 This is how the lampstand was made: It was made of hammered gold—from its base to its blossoms. The lampstand was made exactly like the pattern the Lord had shown Moses.

8:5 여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하여 이르시되

8:6 이스라엘 자손 중에서 레위인을 데려다가 정결하게 하라

8:7 너는 이같이 하여 그들을 정결하게 하되 곧 속죄의 물을 그들에게 뿌리고 그들에게 그들의 전신을 삭도로 밀게 하고 그 의복을 빨게 하여 몸을 정결하게 하고

8:8 또 그들에게 수송아지 한 마리를 번제물로 기름 섞은 고운 가루를 그 소제물로 가져오게 하고 그 외에 너는 또 수송아지 한 마리를 속죄제물로 가져오고

8:9 레위인을 회막 앞에 나오게 하고 이스라엘 자손의 온 회중을 모으고

8:10 레위인을 여호와 앞에 나오게 하고 이스라엘 자손이 그들에게 안수하게 한 후에

8:11 아론이 이스라엘 자손을 위하여 레위인을 흔들어 바치는 제물로 여호와 앞에 드릴지니 이는 그들에게 여호와께 봉사하게 하기 위함이라

5 The Lord said to Moses: 6 “Take the Levites from among all the Israelites and make them ceremonially clean. 7 To purify them, do this: Sprinkle the water of cleansing on them; then have them shave their whole bodies and wash their clothes. And so they will purify themselves. 8 Have them take a young bull with its grain offering of the finest flour mixed with olive oil; then you are to take a second young bull for a sin offering. 9 Bring the Levites to the front of the tent of meeting and assemble the whole Israelite community. 10 You are to bring the Levites before the Lord, and the Israelites are to lay their hands on them. 11 Aaron is to present the Levites before the Lord as a wave offering from the Israelites, so that they may be ready to do the work of the Lord.

8:12 레위인으로 수송아지들의 머리에 안수하게 하고 네가 그 하나는 속죄제물로, 하나는 번제물로 여호와께 드려 레위인을 속죄하고

8:13 레위인을 아론과 그의 아들들 앞에 세워 여호와께 요제로 드릴지니라

12 “Then the Levites are to lay their hands on the heads of the bulls, using one for a sin offering to the Lord and the other for a burnt offering, to make atonement for the Levites. 13 Have the Levites stand in front of Aaron and his sons and then present them as a wave offering to the Lord.

            오늘의 말씀은 한장에 담겨있지만 두가지 서로 다른 주제를 이야기하고 있습니다. 1절부터 4절은 성소 안의 등잔대에 대해서 이야기 하고 있고 5절부터 오늘 말씀의 끝인 13절까지는 레위인들의 임직식에 대해서 이야기 하고 있지요. 말씀에서 이야기하고 있는 등잔대는 제사장인 아론과 그의 아들들이 성소에서 관리하므로 레위인들과는 사실 그다지 관련이 없는 이야기입니다. 레위인들의 임직식도 마찬가지입니다. 이들의 임직식은 성소 안의 등잔대와는 아무 연관이 없지요. 그러나 오늘 말씀은 전혀 관련 없어보이는 이 서로 다른 두가지 주제들이 모두 하나님께서 모세에게 말씀하심으로 시작된 일임을 보여줍니다. 1절. “여호와께서 또 모세에게 말씀하여 이르시되” 5절 “여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하여 이르시되.” 하나님께서 말씀하신 일. 하나님께서 시작하신 일. 이 일들을 통하여 하나님께서는 꺼지지 않는 당신의 빛을 이들에게 비추시고 이들로 여호와께 봉사할 수 있도록 준비하십니다. 오늘은 이처럼 여호와께서 말씀하심과 같이 하라 라는 제목으로 말씀을 나누기 원합니다.

Today's passage covers two seemingly unrelated topics in one chapter. Verses 1-4 speak about the lampstand in the sanctuary, while verses 5-13 describe the ordination of the Levites. The lampstand, which was managed by Aaron the priest and his sons in the sanctuary, appears to have little connection with the Levites. Similarly, the Levites' ordination ceremony has no apparent relationship with the sanctuary lampstand. Yet today's passage reveals that both of these different matters began with God speaking to Moses. Verse 1 says, "The Lord said to Moses," and verse 5 repeats, "The Lord said to Moses." These were matters initiated by God. Through these commands, God shines His unfailing light upon them and prepares them to serve the Lord. Today, I want to share a message entitled "Do as the Lord Commanded."

            하나님께서는 이들의 진영 한 가운데에 있는 회막을 당신이 계시는 곳으로 선택하셨습니다. 회막은 가로로 100규빗 세로로 50규빗 2:1 비율의 직사각형의 공간입니다. 바깥 뜰은 천막으로 다 뒤덮여 있는 것이 아니라 마치 울타리처럼 기둥들(가로20개, 세로 10개)이 세워져있고 그 기둥들 사이 사이를 천막들이 둘러치고있지요. 동쪽에 20규빗되는 출입문이 있습니다. 들어가면 뜰이 있는데 그 곳에 각종 제사를 드리는 번제단이 있고 번제단을 지나면 제사장들이 손과 발을 씻는 물두멍이 있고 이 물두멍을 지나가야 가로 30규빗 세로 10규빗되는 성소가 위치해 있습니다. 휘장을 걷고 성소 안으로 들어가면 오른 쪽에 12개의 진설병을 두는 상이 있고 왼쪽에는 오늘의 주인공, 금으로 만든 7촛대의 등잔대가 있습니다. 이들을 지나면 하나님께 향을 피우는 분향단이 있고 바로 그 앞에 지성소가 있습니다. 지성소는 정방형, 즉 정사각형으로 가로세로 10규빗으로 되어있고 그 안에는 하나님의 보좌가 있는 언약궤가 놓여있지요. 이것이 회막의 구조입니다.

God chose the tabernacle in the center of their camp as His dwelling place. The tabernacle was a rectangular space, 100 cubits long and 50 cubits wide, in a 2:1 ratio. The outer courtyard wasn't completely covered with tent material but was enclosed by pillars (20 across and 10 along the sides) with curtains hanging between them, like a fence. There was a 20-cubit entrance on the east side. Upon entering, you would find the altar for burnt offerings in the courtyard. Beyond the altar was the basin where priests washed their hands and feet. Past this basin stood the Holy Place, measuring 30 cubits long and 10 cubits wide. Entering through the curtain into the Holy Place, on the right was the table holding 12 loaves of the Bread of Presence, and on the left was today's focus—the seven-branched gold lampstand. Beyond these was the altar of incense, and just beyond that was the Most Holy Place. The Most Holy Place was a perfect square, 10 cubits on each side, containing the Ark of the Covenant, God's throne. This was the structure of the tabernacle.

            오늘 말씀에 나오는 이 등잔대는 이 회막 성소 안에 있는 물건중에 가장 아름다운 물건이었습니다. 1달란트, 대략 34킬로그램의 순금을 쳐서 만든 것인데 요즘 시세로 하면 60억 가까이되는 대단히 고귀한 물건이었지요. 이미 이 등잔대의 자세한 제조법과 사용법은 출애굽기 25장에서 자세히 다루고 있습니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 하나님께서 모세에게 말씀하셔서 아론에게 등잔대의 사용법을 다시 일러주시는 것은 회막이 봉헌 된 뒤에 처음으로 성소의 내부의 불을 켜야 하기 때문이었을 것입니다. 2절을 보니 “등불을 켤 때에는 일곱 등잔을 등잔대 앞으로 비추게 할지니라”라고 하시는데 이 빛은 성소 내부 전체를 밝히 비추며 꺼지지 않는 하나님의 빛을 상징하는 것입니다. 하나님께서 이렇게 이들에게 명령하실 때 3절을 보면 아론이 모세에게 말씀하신 하나님의 명령대로 그대로 따랐음을 알 수 있습니다. 4절도 마찬가지지요. 하나님께서 모세에게 시내산에서 직접 보여주신 모습과 양식을 그대로 따라서 모세도 그 등잔대를 만들었음을 우리는 알 수 있습니다. 하나님께서는 이들에게 말씀하셨고 이들은 그 말씀대로 순종하였습니다. 그럼으로 말미암아 하나님의 밝은 빛이 성소안을 가득 채울 수 있었습니다.

The lampstand described in today's passage was the most beautiful object in the Holy Place. Made from one talent of pure gold—about 75 pounds—hammered into shape, it would be worth nearly $3.4 million by today's standards—truly a precious object. The detailed instructions for making and using this lampstand were already given in Exodus 25. Yet God spoke to Moses again to instruct Aaron about the lampstand's use, likely because this was the first time they would light the lamps inside the newly dedicated tabernacle. Verse 2 says, "When you set up the lamps, see that all seven light up the area in front of the lampstand." This light illuminated the entire Holy Place, symbolizing God's unfailing light. Verse 3 shows that Aaron followed God's command exactly as Moses had relayed it. Similarly, verse 4 confirms that Moses had built the lampstand precisely according to the pattern God had shown him on Mount Sinai. God spoke to them, and they obeyed His words. As a result, God's bright light could fill the sanctuary.

            레위인들의 임직식도 마찬가지입니다. 하나님께서 모세에게 말씀하심으로 이 일이 시작되었습니다. 첫째로 하나님께서는 이들을 정결케 하십니다. 7절을 보니 가장 먼저 정결함을 얻기 위해 하는 것이 속죄의 물을 그들에게 뿌리는 것입니다. 이는 정결을 위해서는 무엇보다도 속죄가 가장 먼저 요구된다는 것을 우리에게 알려줍니다. 이 물을 뿌린 후에는 레위인의 몸에 있는 모든 털을 밉니다. 이렇게 전신의 털을 미는 것은 레위기 14장에서 나병 환자가 나음을 입어 진영으로 복귀하려고 정함을 얻고자 할 때 하는 의례에서도 찾을 수 있지요. 또 의복을 빨게 하는데 이 것은 옷만을 빠는 것이 아니라 몸을 물에 씻는 과정 또한 포함하는 말입니다. 이들은 이렇게 그들의 육체를 유대 정결법에 따라 정결하게 하기 위한 과정을 거쳐야만 했습니다. 그리고 이제 하나님께서는 이들에게 그들의 몸 뿐만 아니라 그들의 영혼을 씻으시기 위해 제물을 가져오게 하시지요. 번제물과 소제물과 속죄제물을 각각 가져오라 명하십니다. 그러나 이 제사들을 드리기 전에 먼저 하나님께서는 이스라엘 백성이 레위인들에게 안수하라고 하셨습니다. 이는 이들이 이스라엘 전체를 대신하여 하나님께 봉사하는 자들이 된다는 것을 의미하는 것이기도 하지만 이스라엘의 죄악들이 이들에게로 넘어오는 것을 의미하기도 합니다. 그리고 이들 레위인들은 요제로 드려지기 전에 속죄제물과 번제물로 드려질 수송아지들의 머리에 안수합니다. 바로 이들에게 전해진 이스라엘의 죄와 레위인 자신들의 죄를 번제물과 속죄제물인 수송아지들에게로 넘기는 것이지요. 이제야 비로소 이들의 몸과 영혼이 정결케 되었습니다.  그래서 아론은 이들 레위인들을 흔들어 바치는 요제로 하나님 앞에 드리고 있는 것이지요. 11절에서는 이를 “이는 그들에게 여호와께 봉사하게 하기 위함이라” 라고 말씀하고 계십니다. 하나님께서 말씀하신대로 레위인들은 이스라엘 자손을 위하여 요제로 하나님께 드려졌습니다. 하나님께서 이들에게 말씀하셨고 이들은 그 말씀대로 순종하였습니다. 그럼으로 말미암아 이제 이들은 하나님께 봉사하는 삶을 살도록 헌신되었습니다.

The ordination of the Levites followed the same pattern. It began with God speaking to Moses. First, God purified them. Verse 7 shows that the initial step toward purification was sprinkling the water of cleansing on them. This teaches us that atonement is the primary requirement for purification. After sprinkling this water, they shaved all the hair from their bodies. This full-body shaving ritual is also found in Leviticus 14, in the ceremony for cleansing healed lepers before they could return to the camp. They were also instructed to wash their clothes, which included not just cleaning their garments but also bathing their bodies. They had to undergo these processes to purify their physical bodies according to Jewish purification laws. Then God commanded them to bring offerings to cleanse not just their bodies but also their souls. They were to bring burnt offerings, grain offerings, and sin offerings. But before these sacrifices were made, God first had the Israelites lay their hands on the Levites. This signified not only that the Levites would serve God on behalf of all Israel but also that Israel's sins were transferred to them. Then the Levites placed their hands on the heads of the bulls that would be sacrificed as sin offerings and burnt offerings. This transferred both Israel's sins and the Levites' own sins to these sacrificial animals. Only then were their bodies and souls truly purified. That's why Aaron presented the Levites as a wave offering before the Lord. Verse 11 explains, "This is to make them available to do the Lord's work." As God commanded, the Levites were presented as a wave offering to God on behalf of the Israelites. God spoke to them, and they obeyed His words. As a result, they were now dedicated to a life of service to God.

            말씀을 맺습니다. 오늘의 두 이야기 모두 하나님께서 말씀하신대로 사람들이 순종함으로 하나님의 일이 이루어지는 것에 대해 이야기하고 있습니다. 사람들이 하나님의 말씀하심과 같이 행할 때에 하나님의 밝은 빛이 성소 안을 가득 채울 수 있었고, 레위인들은 이스라엘 자손들을 위하여 하나님께 헌신될 수 있었습니다. 하나님께서 우리에게 말씀하실 때 우리는 들어야 합니다. 그리고 하나님의 그 말씀하심과 같이 행할 때 우리의 삶에 하나님의 뜻이 이루어지는 줄 믿습니다.

To conclude, both stories in today's passage show how God's work is accomplished when people obey exactly as He commands. When people acted as the Lord commanded, God's bright light could fill the sanctuary, and the Levites could be dedicated to God on behalf of the Israelites. When God speaks to us, we must listen. And when we act according to His word, I believe His purpose will be fulfilled in our lives.
