[The Angel and the Little Scroll]
1 Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven. He was robed in a cloud, with a rainbow above his head; his face was like the sun, and his legs were like fiery pillars. 2 He was holding a little scroll, which lay open in his hand. He planted his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land, 3 and he gave a loud shout like the roar of a lion. When he shouted, the voices of the seven thunders spoke. 4 And when the seven thunders spoke, I was about to write; but I heard a voice from heaven say, “Seal up what the seven thunders have said and do not write it down.”
10:5 내가 본 바 바다와 땅을 밟고 서 있는 천사가 하늘을 향하여 오른손을 들고
10:6 세세토록 살아 계신 이 곧 하늘과 그 가운데에 있는 물건이며 땅과 그 가운데에 있는 물건이며 바다와 그 가운데에 있는 물건을 창조하신 이를 가리켜 맹세하여 이르되 지체하지 아니하리니
10:7 일곱째 천사가 소리 내는 날 그의 나팔을 불려고 할 때에 하나님이 그의 종 선지자들에게 전하신 복음과 같이 하나님의 그 비밀이 이루어지리라 하더라
5 Then the angel I had seen standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand to heaven. 6 And he swore by him who lives for ever and ever, who created the heavens and all that is in them, the earth and all that is in it, and the sea and all that is in it, and said, “There will be no more delay! 7 But in the days when the seventh angel is about to sound his trumpet, the mystery of God will be accomplished, just as he announced to his servants the prophets.”
10:8 하늘에서 나서 내게 들리던 음성이 또 내게 말하여 이르되 네가 가서 바다와 땅을 밟고 서 있는 천사의 손에 펴 놓인 두루마리를 가지라 하기로
8 Then the voice that I had heard from heaven spoke to me once more: “Go, take the scroll that lies open in the hand of the angel who is standing on the sea and on the land.”
10:9 내가 천사에게 나아가 작은 두루마리를 달라 한즉 천사가 이르되 갖다 먹어 버리라 네 배에는 쓰나 네 입에는 꿀 같이 달리라 하거늘
10:10 내가 천사의 손에서 작은 두루마리를 갖다 먹어 버리니 내 입에는 꿀 같이 다나 먹은 후에 내 배에서는 쓰게 되더라
10:11 그가 내게 말하기를 네가 많은 백성과 나라와 방언과 임금에게 다시 예언하여야 하리라 하더라
9 So I went to the angel and asked him to give me the little scroll. He said to me, “Take it and eat it. It will turn your stomach sour, but ‘in your mouth it will be as sweet as honey.’” 10 I took the little scroll from the angel’s hand and ate it. It tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth, but when I had eaten it, my stomach turned sour. 11 Then I was told, “You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, languages and kings.”
여러분 어제의 말씀을 통해 우리는 여섯가지 나팔재앙을 통해 마지막 순간까지도 불신자들의 회개를 기다리시는 하나님의 공의와 자비의 순간들을 볼 수 있었습니다. 오늘의 말씀은 일곱번째 나팔재앙이 시작되기 전 마치 큰 공연이 진행될 때 중간에 잠시 막간이 주어지는 것처럼 힘센 천사와 작은 두루마리에 대한 환상을 우리에게 전하고 있습니다. 우리는 앞의 일곱 인의 재앙에서도 마지막 일곱번 째 인을 떼시기전에 이와 비슷한 막간의 환상을 보여주셨던것을 기억 할 수 있지요. 기억이 잘 안나시나요? 괜찮습니다. 천상교회, 하나님의 인침받은 십사만 사천명, 어린양을 예배하는 흰옷입은 자들, 하나님께서 그들의 눈에서 모든 눈물을 씻어 주실 것임이라. 기억이 나시지요? 오늘도 이 일곱번째 나팔 즉 마지막 나팔 재앙이 임하기 직전에 하나님께서는 요한에게 작은 두루마리를 힘센 천사의 손에 전하시면서 이 책을 취하라고 말씀하십니다. 그리고 그 책을 먹은 요한에게 이렇게 말씀하십니다. 네가 다시 예언하여야 하리라. 이것이 우리의 소명입니다. 불신자들의 회개를 마지막 때까지도 기다리시는 하나님이시기에, 하나님의 비밀스러운 말씀을 받은 우리는 그 말씀을 먹고 그 말씀을 전하여야 하는 것입니다. 오늘은 ‘하나님의 비밀이 담긴 이 책을 먹고 전하라’라는 제목으로 함께 말씀 나누기 원합니다.
Dear brothers and sisters, through yesterday's message, we witnessed God's justice and mercy through the six trumpet judgments, showing how God waits until the last moment for unbelievers to repent. Today's message brings us to a vision of a mighty angel and a little scroll, occurring just before the seventh trumpet judgment - like an intermission during a grand performance. We can recall a similar interlude before the seventh seal was broken. Don't remember clearly? That's okay. Remember the heavenly church, the 144,000 sealed by God, those wearing white robes worshipping the Lamb, and how God will wipe away every tear from their eyes? It's coming back to you now, isn't it? Today, just before the seventh trumpet - the final trumpet judgment - God instructs John to take a little scroll from the hand of a mighty angel, saying, "Take and eat it." Then He tells John, "You must prophesy again." This is our calling. Because God waits until the last moment for unbelievers to repent, we who have received God's mysterious word must eat it and proclaim it. Today, we'll share the message titled "Eat and Proclaim This Book Containing God's Mystery."
먼저는 하나님의 비밀에 대해서 잠시 이야기하기 원합니다. 오늘 말씀 1-3절에 보니 힘센 다른 천사에 대한 묘사가 나옵니다. “구름을 입고 하늘에서 내려오는데 그 머리 위에 무지개가 있고 그 얼굴은 해같고 그 발은 불기둥 같으며 그 손에는 펴놓인 작은 두루마리를 들고 그 오른발은 바다를 밟고 왼발은 땅을 밟고 사자가 부르짖는 것 같이 큰 소리로 외치니”라고 합니다. 하나님이 다루시는 천사마저 이러한 권능과 위엄을 갖추었는데 하나님은 어떤 분이실까요? 우리는 이 천사의 모습을 통해 그가 섬기는 하나님의 주권과 권위가 얼마나 위대한 것인지 조금이나마 짐작 할 수 있습니다. 오른발은 바다를 밟고 왼발은 땅을 밟고 서있는 모습은 그가 거대한 천사였던 것을 보여줍니다. 그 손에 들고 있던 펴놓인 두루마리는 요한의 눈에 당연히 작게 보였을 것입니다. 3절에 이 천사가 사자의 부르짖음 처럼 크게 외치자 일곱우레가 소리내어 말을 하였다고 합니다. 그런데 4절에서 하나님께서는 이 일곱우레가 말하는 것을 요한에게 기록하지 말라고 하십니다. 이것은 무엇을 뜻하는 것입니까? 하나님께는 비밀이 있습니다. 여러분 요한계시록은 묵시록 또는 예언서입니다. 마치 다니엘서, 에스겔서, 요엘서 등과 같이 선지자들이 본 환상과 꿈에 대한 기록입니다. 그래서 요한계시록을 시작하는 말이 1장 1절에 “예수 그리스도의 계시라” 라고 하지 않습니까? 1:3에도 “이 예언의 말씀”이라고 말씀하시며 요한계시록이 예언서임을 분명히 합니다. 이 책에 나오는 모든 상징들과 비밀들을 우리가 전부 다 알 수는 없습니다. 왜냐하면 주님께서 마지막 때에 그 비밀을 이루시기 때문입니다. 그렇기에 우리가 비록 알고자 하여도 모든 것을 창조하시고 시작과 끝을 주관하시는 주님께는 마지막 때까지 감추어진 비밀이 있는 것입니다.
First, let's talk about God's mystery. In verses 1-3 of today's passage, we see a description of another mighty angel: "Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven. He was robed in a cloud, with a rainbow above his head; his face was like the sun, and his legs were like fiery pillars. He was holding a little scroll, which lay open in his hand. He planted his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land, and he gave a loud shout like the roar of a lion." If even God's angel possesses such power and majesty, can you imagine what God Himself must be like? Through this angel's appearance, we can glimpse something of the sovereignty and authority of the God he serves. The angel's stance - right foot on the sea, left foot on the land - shows his enormous size. The open scroll in his hand naturally appeared small to John's eyes. Verse 3 tells us that when this angel shouted like a lion's roar, seven thunders spoke. But in verse 4, God commands John not to write down what the seven thunders said. What does this mean? God has His mysteries.
The Book of Revelation is an apocalyptic book, a book of prophecy. Like Daniel, Ezekiel, and Joel, it records the visions and dreams seen by prophets. That's why Revelation begins in chapter 1, verse 1 with "The revelation from Jesus Christ." Revelation 1:3 also clearly identifies it as "the words of this prophecy." We cannot fully understand all the symbols and mysteries in this book because the Lord will fulfill these mysteries in the end times. Therefore, even though we desire to know, there are mysteries that the Lord, who created all things and controls the beginning and the end, keeps hidden until the last day.
그것을 우리는 5-7절까지 이 힘센 천사의 맹세를 통하여 알 수 있습니다. 거대한 천사가 오른 손을 들고 세세토록 살아계시며 천지를 창조하신 하나님을 가리켜 맹세합니다. “지체하지 하니하리니” 일곱번째 나팔이 불리는 바로 그 마지막 때에, 7절입니다. “하나님이 그의 종 선지자들에게 전하신 복음과 같이 하나님의 그 비밀이 이루어지리라 하더라” 여러분 세세토록 살아계시며 천지를 창조하신 하나님께서 예언서들을 통하여 전하신 비밀이 있는 것입니다. 선지자들과 사도 요한을 통하여 전하여주신 우리가 알지 못하는 하나님의 그 비밀들은 하나님의 때에 이루어지는 것입니다.
We can see this through the mighty angel's oath in verses 5-7. This enormous angel raises his right hand and swears by Him who lives forever and ever, who created heaven and earth. "There will be no more delay!" he declares. At that very moment when the seventh trumpet sounds - verse 7 states: "But in the days when the seventh angel is about to sound his trumpet, the mystery of God will be accomplished, just as he announced to his servants the prophets." Beloved, there are mysteries that God, who lives forever and created heaven and earth, has conveyed through the prophetic books. These mysteries, transmitted through the prophets and the Apostle John, will be fulfilled in God's time.
그렇다면 내가 알지도 못하는 비밀이 나와 무슨 상관이냐 라고 하실수도 있습니다. 그런데 상관이 있습니다. 왜냐하면 하나님께서 말씀을 통하여 그 비밀을 여러분에게 주셨기 때문입니다. 오늘 말씀 8절에 하나님께서 요한에게 말씀하십니다. 가서 저 거대하고 영광스러운 천사의 손에 펼쳐져있는 두루마리를 가져라 라고 말입니다. 이 두루마리가 어떤 두루마리입니까? 하나님의 손에 있던 두루마리입니다. 일곱인이 쳐져 있어서 아무도 그 인을 열자가 없어서 요한이 슬피 울 때에 죽임당하신 어린양께서 그 두루마리를 취하시고 그 봉인을 차례차례 여셨던 바로 그 두루마리입니다. 모든 봉인이 열려 이제는 그 내용을 볼 수 있는 두루마리를 영광스럽고 거대한 천사의 손에 들려서 요한에게 가져가라 명하시는 것입니다. 하나님의 심판과 자비가 담긴 이 두루마리가 무엇입니까? 하나님의 말씀입니다. 천사가 말합니다. 갖다 먹어버려라. 요한이 그 두루마리를 먹을 때에 그 입에는 꿀같이 달고 그 배에서는 쓰다라고 전하고 있습니다. 이것은 에스겔의 환상을 기억하게 합니다. 에스겔 3:3입니다. “내가 네게 주는 이 두루마리를 네 배에 넣으며 제 창자에 채우라 하시기에 내가 먹으니 그것이 내 입에서 달기가 꿀 같더라.” 여러분 우리에게도 바로 이 두루마리가 있습니다. 우리에게 이미 주셨습니다. 그것은 바로 하나님의 말씀, 성경입니다. 하나님의 구원의 역사와 하나님이 누구신지를 알려주시는, 또 하나님의 크고 비밀한 일을 보이시는 하나님의 책, 바로 성경인 것입니다. 우리는 이 책을 먹어야 합니다. 이 책을 씹고 뜯고 맛보고 즐기고 삼켜서 이 책을 갖다 먹어버려야 하는 것입니다. 하나님의 말씀을 먹는 기쁨을 눈물의 선지자 예레미야는 이렇게 적습니다. 예레미야 15:16입니다. “내가 주의 말씀을 얻어 먹었사오니 주의 말씀은 내게 기쁨과 내 마음의 즐거움이오나”
You might ask, "What do these mysteries I don't even understand have to do with me?" But they do matter, because God has given you these mysteries through His Word. In verse 8 of today's passage, God tells John to go and take the open scroll from the hand of this mighty and glorious angel. What scroll is this? It's the scroll that was in God's hand - the very scroll that made John weep because no one could break its seven seals until the slain Lamb took it and opened its seals one by one. Now, with all seals broken and its contents visible, God commands John to take it from the glorious and mighty angel's hand. What is this scroll containing God's judgments and mercy? It is God's Word. The angel says, "Take it and eat it." When John ate it, it tasted as sweet as honey in his mouth but turned sour in his stomach. This reminds us of Ezekiel's vision. Ezekiel 3:3 says: "Then he said to me, 'Son of man, eat this scroll I am giving you and fill your stomach with it.' So I ate it, and it tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth."
Brothers and sisters, we too have this scroll. It has already been given to us. It is God's Word - the Bible. It is God's book that reveals His salvation history, who He is, and shows His great and mysterious works. We must eat this book. We must chew it, taste it, enjoy it, and swallow it - we must completely consume it. Jeremiah, the weeping prophet, describes the joy of eating God's Word in Jeremiah 15:16: "When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart's delight."
그러나 여러분 하나님께서 이 말씀을 여러분에게 먹이시는 것은 목적이 있습니다. 하나님의 말씀을 먹었던 에스겔서 3:4로 다시 되돌아가 보겠습니다. “그가 또 내게 이르시되 인자야 이스라엘 족속에게 가서 내 말로 그들에게 고하라” 이 두루마리를 에스겔에게 먹이시는 이유가 무엇입니까? 너는 가서 내 말로 그들에게 고하라. 자 그렇다면 오늘 말씀에 이 두루마리를 사도요한에게 먹이시는 이유가 무엇입니까? 11절입니다. “그가 내게 말하기를 네가 많은 백성과 나라와 방언과 임금에게 다시 예언하여야 하리라 하더라” 다시 예언해야 할 것이다 라고 말씀하고 계시는 것입니다. 다시 전해야한다고 말씀하고 계시는 것입니다.
However, God has a purpose in feeding you His Word. Let's return to Ezekiel 3:4: "He then said to me: 'Son of man, go now to the people of Israel and speak my words to them.'" Why did God make Ezekiel eat the scroll? To go and speak His words to the people. So why does God make the Apostle John eat this scroll in today's passage? Verse 11 tells us: "Then I was told, 'You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, languages and kings.'" He must prophesy again - he must proclaim again.
말씀을 맺습니다. 이제 마지막 일곱번째 나팔재앙을 앞두고 있습니다. 그러나 그 재앙을 앞두고서 하나님께서는 요한에게 하나님의 손에 있던 두루마리를 먹이십니다. 그리고 요한에게 명하십니다. 너는 다시 전하라. 여러분 이것이 마지막 때를 살아가는 우리에게 주시는 하나님의 명령입니다. 아직도 너무나 많은 사람들이 하나님을 알지 못합니다. 그리고 아직 일곱번째 나팔은 울리지 않았습니다. 그리고 우리에게는 하나님의 말씀이 주어졌습니다. 여러분 하나님의 비밀이 담긴 이 책을 먹고 다시 전하십시오. 이것이 우리를 향한 하나님의 뜻인줄 믿습니다. 기도하시겠습니다.
Let me close. We now stand before the seventh and final trumpet judgment. But before this judgment, God feeds John the scroll that was in His hand. And He commands John: "Prophesy again." Brothers and sisters, this is God's command to us living in these last days. There are still so many people who don't know God. The seventh trumpet hasn't yet sounded, and we have been given God's Word. Eat this book containing God's mystery and proclaim it again. Let us pray.
