8:1 일곱째 인을 떼실 때에 하늘이 반 시간쯤 고요하더니
[The Seventh Seal and the Golden Censer]
1 When he opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.
8:2 내가 보매 하나님 앞에 일곱 천사가 서 있어 일곱 나팔을 받았더라
2 And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them.
8:3 또 다른 천사가 와서 제단 곁에 서서 금 향로를 가지고 많은 향을 받았으니 이는 모든 성도의 기도와 합하여 보좌 앞 금 제단에 드리고자 함이라
8:4 향연이 성도의 기도와 함께 천사의 손으로부터 하나님 앞으로 올라가는지라
8:5 천사가 향로를 가지고 제단의 불을 담아다가 땅에 쏟으매 우레와 음성과 번개와 지진이 나더라
3 Another angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense to offer, with the prayers of all God’s people, on the golden altar in front of the throne. 4 The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of God’s people, went up before God from the angel’s hand. 5 Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and hurled it on the earth; and there came peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning and an earthquake.
8:6 일곱 나팔을 가진 일곱 천사가 나팔 불기를 준비하더라

6 Then the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared to sound them.
8:7 첫째 천사가 나팔을 부니 피 섞인 우박과 불이 나와서 땅에 쏟아지매 땅의 삼분의 일이 타 버리고 수목의 삼분의 일도 타 버리고 각종 푸른 풀도 타 버렸더라
7 The first angel sounded his trumpet, and there came hail and fire mixed with blood, and it was hurled down on the earth. A third of the earth was burned up, a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up.
8:8 둘째 천사가 나팔을 부니 불붙는 큰 산과 같은 것이 바다에 던져지매 바다의 삼분의 일이 피가 되고
8:9 바다 가운데 생명 가진 피조물들의 삼분의 일이 죽고 배들의 삼분의 일이 깨지더라
8 The second angel sounded his trumpet, and something like a huge mountain, all ablaze, was thrown into the sea. A third of the sea turned into blood, 9 a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed.
8:10 셋째 천사가 나팔을 부니 횃불같이 타는 큰 별이 하늘에서 떨어져 강들의 삼분의 일과 여러 물샘에 떨어지니
8:11 이 별 이름은 쓴 쑥이라 물의 삼분의 일이 쓴 쑥이 되매 그 물이 쓴 물이 됨으로 많은 사람이 죽더라
10 The third angel sounded his trumpet, and a great star, blazing like a torch, fell from the sky on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water— 11 the name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters turned bitter, and many people died from the waters that had become bitter.
8:12 넷째 천사가 나팔을 부니 해 삼분의 일과 달 삼분의 일과 별들의 삼분의 일이 타격을 받아 그 삼분의 일이 어두워지니 낮 삼분의 일은 비추임이 없고 밤도 그러하더라
12 The fourth angel sounded his trumpet, and a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them turned dark. A third of the day was without light, and also a third of the night.
8:13 내가 또 보고 들으니 공중에 날아가는 독수리가 큰 소리로 이르되 땅에 사는 자들에게 화, 화, 화가 있으리니 이는 세 천사들이 불어야 할 나팔 소리가 남아 있음이로다 하더라
13 As I watched, I heard an eagle that was flying in midair call out in a loud voice: “Woe! Woe! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth, because of the trumpet blasts about to be sounded by the other three angels!”
여러분 저는 설교를 준비할 때마다 항상 하나님께 기도를 합니다. 제가 제 생각대로 또는 제 의도대로 말씀을 전하는 것이 아니라 하나님께서 주시는 말씀 또 하나님께서 여러분에게 전하시고 픈 말씀을 온전히 전하게 해달라고 기도하는 것이지요. 이 새벽기도의 자리에 나오신 여러분들도 늘 하나님께 기도하심으로 기도의 능력을 이미 많이 체험하셨으리라 생각합니다. 우리가 이렇게 열심으로 하나님 앞에 나아와 기도하는 것은 무엇때문입니까? 바로 하나님께서 우리의 기도를 들으시기 때문입니다. 하나님께서 우리의 기도를 듣지 않으신다면 우리가 기도하는 것은 그저 허공에 울리는 메아리가 될 뿐이겠지요.
Dear brothers and sisters, every time I prepare for a sermon, I always pray to God. I pray that I don't deliver the message according to my own thoughts or intentions, but rather that I may fully convey the message that God wants to give to you. I believe that those of you who come to these early morning prayer services have already experienced the power of prayer through your consistent communion with God. Why do we earnestly come before God in prayer like this? It's because God hears our prayers. If God didn't hear our prayers, they would merely be echoes resonating in empty space.
오늘 본문의 말씀은 성도가 드리는 기도가 하나님의 보좌 앞 금 제단에 드려진다고 합니다. 그리고 천사의 손에서 하나님 앞으로 올라간다고 합니다. 그리고 그 기도를 통하여 하나님의 심판이 촉발되는 것을 볼 수 있습니다. 오늘 요한계시록 본문의 말씀을 가장 먼저 들었을 소아시아 일곱교회에게는 이것은 큰 위로가 되었을 것입니다. 그들은 로마의 박해와 핍박 가운데 끊임없이 하나님께 기도했을 것입니다. 그리고 오늘 말씀을 통하여 그들은 하나님께서 그들의 기도를 사용하여 하나님의 심판을 이 땅에 이루심을 볼 수 있었습니다. 여러분 하나님께서는 성도의 기도를 들으십니다. 그리고 하나님이 그 기도를 들으실 때, 성도들에게는 응답으로 죄인들에게는 하나님의 심판으로 임하는 것입니다.
1절말씀에 죽임 당하신 어린양께서 일곱 번째 인을 떼시자 하늘이 반시간쯤 고요해집니다. 일곱번째 인은 두루마기를 봉하고 있던 마지막 인입니다. 각 인을 떼실 때 마다 심판이 있었지요. 전쟁과 가뭄, 죽음과 같은 하나님의 심판이 임하였습니다. 이런 심판을 겪는 이들은 6장의 마지막인 6:17에 “진노의 큰 날이 이르렀으니 누가 능히 서리요?”라고 물을만큼 두려워합니다. 그리고 그 질문에 마치 대답이라도 하듯 어제의 말씀이었던 7장의 말씀은 인치심을 받은 사람들에 대해 이야기하고 있습니다. 하나님의 백성들은 이런 진노의 큰 날이 온다해도 그 진노를 받지않고 오히려 하나님의 공급하심과 보호하심을 받는 것입니다. 그리고 오늘 말씀입니다. 마지막 일곱 번째 인을 떼시자 방금까지 하나님께 경배하던 모든 천사, 장로, 인치심을 받은 무리등 모두가 침묵합니다. 하늘이 반시간쯤 고요하였다고 하는데 이는 모든 만물이 침묵함으로 임박한 일곱번 째 심판이 얼마나 두려운 것인지를 보여주는 것입니다.
Today's text tells us that the prayers of the saints are offered on the golden altar before God's throne. These prayers rise before God from the angel's hand. And through these prayers, we can see God's judgment being triggered. For the seven churches in Asia Minor who first heard these words from the Book of Revelation, this must have been a great comfort. They would have been constantly praying to God amid persecution and oppression from Rome. Through today's passage, they could see how God uses their prayers to bring His judgment to earth. Brothers and sisters, God hears the prayers of His saints. And when God hears these prayers, they come as answers to the faithful and as judgment to sinners.
In verse 1, when the Lamb opens the seventh seal, there is silence in heaven for about half an hour. The seventh seal is the final seal that binds the scroll. With each broken seal, there was judgment - war, famine, and death came as God's judgments. Those experiencing these judgments were so terrified that, as we read in 6:17, they asked, "For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can withstand it?" As if answering this question, yesterday's reading from chapter 7 talked about those who were sealed. God's people, even when this great day of wrath comes, will not receive this wrath but instead receive God's provision and protection. And then we come to today's passage. When the seventh seal is opened, all who were worshiping God - angels, elders, and the sealed multitude - fall silent. Heaven was silent for about half an hour, showing through this universal silence just how fearsome this seventh judgment would be.
2절을 보니 일곱천사가 서있어 일곱 나팔을 받았다고 합니다. 일곱 봉인의 심판과 일곱 나팔의 심판이 이어지는 부분입니다. 이 뒤에는 일곱 그릇의 심판이 이어질 것입니다. 이는 이 세가지 일곱 심판 시리즈가 시간의 흐름을 따라 하나씩, 예를 들면 일곱 봉인 다음에 일곱 나팔 다음에 일곱 그릇 이런 식으로 벌어지는 일이 아니라 예수님의 부활부터 재림 사이에 있을 하나님의 심판을 서로 다른 시각으로 각각 보여주는 것임을 알 수 있습니다. 그리고 오늘 말씀에 나온 네가지의 나팔재앙은 말씀을 듣는 자들에게 출애굽기에 등장한 열가지 재앙들을 상기시킴으로서 하나님만이 만물의 주관자이심을 다시 한번 기억하게 합니다. 그리고 출애굽의 때에 하나님의 심판이 이집트에만 임하였듯이 지금도 같은 하나님께서 하나님의 백성은 보호하시고 그들을 핍박하고 있는 자들을 심판하실 것임을 알려줍니다.
Verse 2 tells us that seven angels stood before God and were given seven trumpets. This connects the judgments of the seven seals to the seven trumpet judgments. After this will come the seven bowl judgments. We can understand that these three series of seven judgments don't occur sequentially (like seven seals, then seven trumpets, then seven bowls), but rather show different perspectives of God's judgment that will occur between Christ's resurrection and His second coming. The four trumpet plagues mentioned in today's passage remind the listeners of the ten plagues in Exodus, reinforcing that God alone is sovereign over all creation. Just as God's judgment fell only on Egypt during the Exodus, this reminds us that the same God will protect His people while judging those who persecute them.
7절, 첫번째 나팔재앙은 피섞인 우박과 불이 땅에 쏟아집니다. 이로인해 땅의 삼분의 일이 타버립니다. 8-9절, 두번째 나팔재앙은 바다의 삼분의 일이 피가 되고 배들의 삼분의 일이 깨집니다. 10-11절, 세번째 나팔재앙은 물의 삼분의 일이 쓴 쑥이 되어 많은 사람이 죽습니다. 12절, 네번째 나팔재앙은 세상의 삼분의 일이 어두워집니다. 모두 출애굽기의 열 재앙과 매우 비슷한 재앙임을 볼 수 있습니다. 이 재앙들은 모두 자연재해입니다. 그러나 13절에 “공중에 날아가는 독수리가 큰 소리로 이르되 땅에 사는 자들에게 화, 화, 화가 있으리니 이는 세 천사들이 불어야 할 나팔 소리가 남아 있음이로다”라고 합니다. 이 재앙들은 사람에게 미치는 재앙입니다. 여러분 가만히 보시면 오늘의 재앙들은 모두 삼분의 일만 심판을 받습니다. 그리고 아직까지는 자연재해이고 사람을 직접 치시지는 않습니다. 이것은 바로 하나님께서 진노중에도 긍휼을 잊지 아니하시는 것을 보여줍니다. 하나님은 모든 사람이 구원을 받으며 진리를 아는데 이르기를 원하시는 것입니다.
In verse 7, the first trumpet brings hail and fire mixed with blood thrown to earth, burning up a third of the land. In verses 8-9, the second trumpet turns a third of the sea to blood and destroys a third of the ships. In verses 10-11, the third trumpet makes a third of the waters bitter as wormwood, causing many to die. Verse 12 shows the fourth trumpet darkening a third of the world. All these plagues closely parallel those in Exodus. These are all natural disasters. However, verse 13 states, "As I watched, I heard an eagle that was flying in midair call out in a loud voice: 'Woe! Woe! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth, because of the trumpet blasts about to be sounded by the other three angels!'" These remaining plagues will affect people directly. Notice that in today's plagues, only one-third receives judgment, and so far, these are natural disasters not directly striking people. This shows God's mercy even in His wrath. God desires all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
이 마지막 일곱번째 인의 재앙, 그리고 나팔재앙은 어떻게 시작되었습니까? 바로 성도의 기도로 시작되었습니다. 3절과 4절에 보니 나팔을 받은 일곱천사가 아닌 “또 다른 천사가 와서 제단 곁에 서서 금 향로를 가지고 많은 향을 받았으니 이는 모든 성도의 기도와 합하여 보좌 앞 금 제단에 드리고자 함이라. 향연이 성도의 기도와 함께 천사의 손으로부터 하나님 앞으로 올라가는지라”라고 합니다. 성도의 기도가 향기로운 향내와 뒤섞여 하나님 앞으로 올라가는 것입니다. 이런 성도의 기도에 하나님께서 응답하셔서 하나님의 심판을 일으키는 것을 볼 수 있습니다. 이것은 성도에게는 하나님의 보호하심과 공급하심이요 죄인들에게는 재앙인 것입니다.
말씀을 맺습니다. 하나님께서는 우리의 기도를 들으십니다. 성도의 기도를 절대로 땅에 떨어지게 하시지 않습니다. 성도의 기도를 받으시고 그 기도를 통하여 세상을 심판하실 것입니다. 그러므로 우리는 기도하는 것을 포기하여서는 안됩니다. 마지막 때가 가까울 수록 성도는 깨어 기도하여야 합니다. 한사람이라도 더 주님께 돌아오도록 기도해야하는 것입니다. 오늘 말씀처럼 지금 이 순간에도 천사들의 손에서 하나님 앞으로 우리의 기도가 올라가고 있습니다. 기도하시겠습니다.
How did these final seventh seal judgments and trumpet plagues begin? They began with the prayers of the saints. Verses 3 and 4 tell us that "Another angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense to offer, with the prayers of all God's people, on the golden altar in front of the throne. The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of God's people, went up before God from the angel's hand." The prayers of the saints rise before God mixed with sweet-smelling incense. We can see God responding to these prayers by bringing His judgment - which means protection and provision for the saints but plague for sinners.
Let me conclude. God hears our prayers. He never lets the prayers of the saints fall to the ground unheeded. He receives the prayers of the saints and through them will judge the world. Therefore, we must not give up on prayer. As the end times draw near, the saints must stay awake and pray. We must pray for even one more person to return to the Lord. As in today's passage, even at this moment, our prayers are rising before God from the angels' hands. Let us pray.
