22:29 이스라엘의 왕과 유다의 여호사밧 왕이 길르앗 라못으로 올라가니라

22:30 이스라엘의 왕이 여호사밧에게 이르되 나는 변장하고 전쟁터로 들어가려 하노니 당신은 왕복을 입으소서 하고 이스라엘의 왕이 변장하고 전쟁터로 들어가니라

Ahab Killed at Ramoth Gilead

29 So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah went up to Ramoth Gilead. 30 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “I will enter the battle in disguise, but you wear your royal robes.” So the king of Israel disguised himself and went into battle.

22:31 아람 왕이 그의 병거의 지휘관 삼십이 명에게 명령하여 이르기를 너희는 작은 자나 큰 자와 더불어 싸우지 말고 오직 이스라엘 왕과 싸우라 한지라

22:32 병거의 지휘관들이 여호사밧을 보고 그들이 이르되 이가 틀림없이 이스라엘의 왕이라 하고 돌이켜 그와 싸우려 한즉 여호사밧이 소리를 지르는지라

22:33 병거의 지휘관들이 그가 이스라엘의 왕이 아님을 보고 쫓기를 그치고 돌이켰더라

31 Now the king of Aram had ordered his thirty-two chariot commanders, “Do not fight with anyone, small or great, except the king of Israel.” 32 When the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they thought, “Surely this is the king of Israel.” So they turned to attack him, but when Jehoshaphat cried out, 33 the chariot commanders saw that he was not the king of Israel and stopped pursuing him.

22:34 한 사람이 무심코 활을 당겨 이스라엘 왕의 갑옷 솔기를 맞힌지라 왕이 그 병거 모는 자에게 이르되 내가 부상하였으니 네 손을 돌려 내가 전쟁터에서 나가게 하라 하였으나

22:35 이 날에 전쟁이 맹렬하였으므로 왕이 병거 가운데에 붙들려 서서 아람 사람을 막다가 저녁에 이르러 죽었는데 상처의 피가 흘러 병거 바닥에 고였더라

22:36 해가 질 녁에 진중에서 외치는 소리가 있어 이르되 각기 성읍으로 또는 각기 본향으로 가라 하더라

34 But someone drew his bow at random and hit the king of Israel between the sections of his armor. The king told his chariot driver, “Wheel around and get me out of the fighting. I’ve been wounded.” 35 All day long the battle raged, and the king was propped up in his chariot facing the Arameans. The blood from his wound ran onto the floor of the chariot, and that evening he died. 36 As the sun was setting, a cry spread through the army: “Every man to his town. Every man to his land!”

22:37 왕이 이미 죽으매 그의 시체를 메어 사마리아에 이르러 왕을 사마리아에 장사하니라

22:38 그 병거를 사마리아 못에서 씻으매 개들이 그의 피를 핥았으니 여호와께서 하신 말씀과 같이 되었더라 거기는 창기들이 목욕하는 곳이었더라

37 So the king died and was brought to Samaria, and they buried him there. 38 They washed the chariot at a pool in Samaria (where the prostitutes bathed), and the dogs licked up his blood, as the word of the Lord had declared.

22:39 아합의 남은 행적과 그가 행한 모든 일과 그가 건축한 상아궁과 그가 건축한 모든 성읍은 이스라엘 왕 역대지략에 기록되지 아니하였느냐

22:40 아합이 그의 조상들과 함께 자매 그의 아들 아하시야가 대신하여 왕이 되니라

39 As for the other events of Ahab’s reign, including all he did, the palace he built and adorned with ivory, and the cities he fortified, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel? 40 Ahab rested with his ancestors. And Ahaziah his son succeeded him as king.

아합이 라못 길르앗 전투에서 하나님의 심판으로 죽습니다. 그는 죄와 우상 숭배에서 돌아서지 않았고 결국 하나님께 불순종했습니다. 불순종은 항상 죽음으로 이어집니다. 신체적이든 영적이든 마찬가지입니다. 오늘 우리는 아합의 생애 마지막을 살펴보며 오늘의 성경 구절에서 배울 수 있는 것을 살펴봅시다.

Ahab dies in the battle of Ramoth Gilead due to God's judgment. He would not turn away from sin and idolatry, and in the end disobeyed God. Disobedience always leads to death, whether that be physical or spiritual. Let us look at the end of Ahab’s life today and see what we could learn from today’s scriptures.

전쟁에 위장하여 참여한 아합 (29~30절)

전쟁을 감행하면 죽을 것이라는 미가야의 예언을 무시하고 아합은 라못 길르앗으로 올라갑니다. 라못 길르앗은 이스라엘 동쪽 약 70km 떨어진 요르단강 동쪽에 위치하고 있습니다. 열왕기상 20:34에서 벤하닷은 이스라엘로부터 빼앗은 도시들을 돌려줄 것을 약속했으나 아직 라못 길르앗은 돌려주지 않았습니다. 아합은 아시리아가 약해진 틈을 타 아람과의 전쟁을 통해 이 땅을 되찾으려 했습니다.

전장에 나서기 전 아합은 여호사밧에게 왕의 예복을 입도록 하고 자신은 위장했습니다. 왜냐하면 그는 전쟁에서의 죽음을 두려워했기 때문입니다. 미가야가 한 예언을 아합은 알고 있었습니다. 이것은 아합의 자기중심적인 행동이었습니다. 그는 여호사밧이 대신 공격 받기를 원했습니다.

Ahab going into battle in disguise (verses 29~30)

Ignoring Micaiah's prophecy that he would die if he went to war, Ahab went up to Ramoth Gilead. Ramoth Gilead is located about 70 km east of Israel, on the east side of the Jordan River.. In 1 King 20:34, Ben-Hadad promised to return the cities he had taken from Israel, but he had not yet returned Ramoth Gilead. Ahab tried to reclaim this land through war with Aram while Assyria was weakened.

Before going to the battlefield, Ahab tells Jehoshaphat to wear his royal robes while he himself would disguise. He did this because he was scared. He knew the prophecy that Micaiah had said. This was total selfishness from Ahab. He intended for Jehoshaphat to become the main target.

벤하닷의 아합만 붙잡으라는 명령 (31~33절)

아람의 왕 벤하닷은 그의 32대 전차 지휘관들에게 특별 명령을 내립니다. 그는 크고 작은 사람과 싸우지 말고 오직 이스라엘 왕과만 싸우라고 지시합니다. 아람의 왕은 전투에서 왕을 붙잡거나 죽이는 것이 가장 빠른 승리 방법이라는 것을 알고 있었습니다.

전차 지휘관들이 왕의 명령을 받고 예복을 입은 여호사밧을 보고 그가 이스라엘의 왕이라고 확신하고 그를 향해 돌진합니다. 여호사밧은 크게 외칩니다. 여기서 "외친다"는 단어는 일반적으로 위험이나 어려움에 직면했을 때 여호와에게 도움을 요청하며 사용됩니다. 여호사밧은 절박하게 하나님께 부르짖습니다.

그 순간 아람의 지휘관들은 자신들이 쫓고 있던 사람이 이스라엘의 왕이 아니라는 것을 깨닫고 추격을 멈추고 돌아섭니다. 여호사밧의 외침이 그를 구해줬습니다. 역대하 18:31에 "전차 지휘관들이 여호사밧을 보고 '이 사람이 이스라엘의 왕이다' 하고 그를 공격하려 했으나, 여호사밧이 부르짖자, 주께서 그를 도우셨습니다. 하나님이 그를 멀리 이끌어 내셨습니다"라고 기록되어 있습니다. 하나님은 신실한 여호사밧의 생명을 지켰습니다.

Ben-Hadad's command to only capture Ahab (verses 31~33)

The king of Aram, Ben-Hadad, gives a special order to his 32 chariot commanders. He instructs them not to fight with the small or great, but only with the king of Israel. The king of Aram knew that capturing or killing the king in battle would be the quickest way to victory.

The commanders, upon receiving the order from the king of Aram, saw Jehoshaphat wearing the royal robes and were convinced he was the king of Israel, so they charged at him. Jehoshaphat cried out loudly. The verb "cried out" translated here is typically used when calling out to Jehovah for help when facing danger or difficulty. Jehoshaphat desperately cried out to God.

At that moment, the commanders Aram realized that the person they were chasing was not the king of Israel and stopped pursuing and turned back. Jehoshaphat's cry saved him. Chronicles 18:31 states, "When the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they thought, “This is the king of Israel.” So they turned to attack him, but Jehoshaphat cried out, and the Lord helped him. God drew them away from him" God protected the life of the faithful Jehoshaphat.

아합의 화살에 맞아 죽음 (34~36절)

갑자기 34절에 아합은 갑옷 사이로 화살을 맞습니다. 거의 불가능한 일입니다. 이것은 하나님의 행위임을 증명합니다.

아합은 미가야를 통해 전해진 여호와의 예언을 피하려고 왕의 예복을 입지 않았고, 대신에 여호사밧 왕을 미끼로 삼았으며 철저하게 방어를 갖춘 갑옷을 입었지만 "여호와가 보낸 화살"을 피할 수 없었습니다. 아무리 계획하고 방어를 준비해도 여호와의 지혜를 능가할 수 없으며, 아무리 철저히 준비해도 하나님은 불가능한 곳에 화살을 맞힐 수 있는 분입니다.

여호와의 명령을 무시하고 여호와의 손과 눈을 피하려 한 것은 비참한 결과로 이어졌습니다. 화살에 맞은 후 아합은 전장을 빨리 떠나라고 병거 운전사에게 명령했습니다. 그러나 이마저도 아합의 바람대로 이루어지지 않았습니다. 전투는 격화되었고 그의 병거는 아람군 앞에서 막혀 버렸습니다. 결국 저녁때 그는 죽었습니다.

아합은 죽음을 피할 수 없었습니다. 그는 하루 종일 피를 흘리며 매우 고통스럽게 죽었습니다. 아합 왕이 죽고 저녁이 되자 모두 집으로 돌아가라는 외침이 있었습니다. 그의 죽음은 전쟁의 끝을 알렸습니다. 미가야가 예언한 대로 그는 전장에서 죽었고, 미가야가 참된 예언자임이 명백히 증명되었습니다.

Ahab's death by a random arrow (verses 34~36)

All of a sudden in verse 34, Ahab is hit by an arrow between the sections of his armor. It's almost an improbable event. This testifies that it was an act of God.

Ahab, trying to avoid Jehovah's prophecy delivered through Micaiah, did not wear his royal robes, instead set up King Jehoshaphat as a decoy and even wore armor thoroughly to protect himself, but "the arrow sent by Jehovah" could not be avoided. No matter how much he planned and prepared defenses, he could not surpass Jehovah's wisdom, and no matter how carefully he prepared, God is the one who can make an arrow strike in an impossible spot.

Ignoring Jehovah's command and trying to escape Jehovah's hand and eyes led to a miserable outcome. After being hit by the arrow, Ahab commanded the chariot driver to leave the battlefield quickly. However, even this did not go as Ahab wished. The battle intensified, and his chariot was trapped in front of the Aramean army. Eventually, in the evening, he died,

Ahab could not escape death. He died very painfully, bleeding all day. When King Ahab died, and the evening came, a cry went out for everyone to go to their homes. His death marked the end of the war. As Micaiah had prophesied, he died on the battlefield, and it was clearly proven that Micaiah was a true prophet.

아합의 죽음 (37~40절)

전장에서 죽은 아합의 시체는 그의 부하들에 의해 사마리아로 옮겨져 매장됩니다. 열왕기상 21:19에서 "개들이 나봇의 피를 핥았던 곳에서 네 피를 핥을 것이다"라는 예언도 이루어졌습니다. "개들이 아합의 피를 핥는다"는 평화롭지 않은 비참한 죽음을 의미합니다.

39절에서 아합의 업적을 기록하면서 그가 건설한 상아 궁전이 언급됩니다. 이 궁전은 상아로 된 가구 장식과 패널을 벽에 붙여 만들었습니다. 상아는 주로 아람에서 수입되었습니다. 아합이 건설한 호화로운 상아 궁전은 솔로몬이 예루살렘에 세운 백향목 궁전과 비교됩니다.

그러나 솔로몬은 하나님의 축복을 받아 번영했지만 아합은 바알을 숭배하면서 부와 영광을 추구했습니다.

이것으로 아합의 긴 이야기가 마무리됩니다. 아합은 북이스라엘 왕들 중에서도 가장 악한 왕으로 여겨집니다. 하나님은 엘리야를 비롯한 여러 예언자들을 보내 아합에게 회개할 기회를 여러 번 주셨습니다. 그러나 아합은 이 모든 기회를 무시하고 하나님의 심판을 받았습니다.

Ahab's death (verses 37~40)

The body of Ahab, who died on the battlefield, is carried by his men to Samaria for burial. The prophecy in 1 Kings 21:19 that dogs would lick your blood where they licked Naboth's blood is similarly fulfilled. "Dogs licking Ahab's blood" refers to a miserable death, not a peaceful one.

While recording Ahab's achievements in verse 39, his construction of the ivory palace is mentioned. The palace was made by attaching ivory furniture decorations and panels to the walls. Ivory was mainly imported from Aram. Ahab's construction of the luxurious ivory palace is comparable to Solomon building the cedar palace in Jerusalem.

However, unlike Solomon, who was blessed by God to become prosperous, Ahab sought wealth and glory through worshipping Baal.

This concludes the long story of Ahab. Ahab is regarded as one of the most evil king among the kings of Northern Israel because of worshipping Baal. God sent several prophets including Elijah and gave Ahab several opportunities to return to God. However, Ahab ignored all these opportunities and received God's judgment.

우리는 어떻습니까?

끝까지 아합은 스스로의 힘으로 하나님으로부터 도망치려 했습니다. 그는 여호사밧이 자신의 대신 죽기를 원했습니다. 그러나 우연한 화살이 아합을 맞혔습니다. 이 화살이 우연이라고 생각하십니까? 이 화살은 의도적이었습니다. 화살은 정확히 필요한 곳에 맞혔습니다. 그것은 죄를 지속하고 하나님께 불순종했기 때문에 아합을 맞혔습니다.

죄와 불순종은 심판을 받을 것입니다. 우리가 도망치려 해도 소용이 없습니다. 하나님은 우리를 찾아내어 심판하실 것입니다. 그러므로 오늘 우리는 하나님께 솔직하길 바랍니다. 만약 오늘 여러분의 마음에 불순종이 있다면, 이시간 회개합시다. 우리가 회개할 때, 하나님의 힘과 예수 그리스도의 피로 우리는 은혜를 경험하고 죄로부터 자유를 누릴 수 있습니다.

What about us?

Until the very end, Ahab tried to run away from God by his own power. He tried to have Jehoshaphat die in his place. However a random arrow struck Ahab. Do you think this arrow was random? This arrow was intentional. This arrow struck where it exactly needed to. It struck Ahab because he was sinful and continued to disobey God.

Sin and disobedience will be judged. Even if we try to run away, it will be pointless. God will find us and judge us. So I hope that we will be honest with God today. If there is disobedience in your hearts today, let us repent today. When we repent, with the power of God and the blood of Jesus Christ, we will experience grace and freedom from sin.
