20 The people of Judah and Israel were as numerous as the sand on the seashore; they ate, they drank and they were happy. 21 And Solomon ruled over all the kingdoms from the Euphrates River to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt. These countries brought tribute and were Solomon’s subjects all his life.

22 Solomon’s daily provisions were thirty cors[a] of the finest flour and sixty cors[b] of meal, 23 ten head of stall-fed cattle, twenty of pasture-fed cattle and a hundred sheep and goats, as well as deer, gazelles, roebucks and choice fowl. 24 For he ruled over all the kingdoms west of the Euphrates River, from Tiphsah to Gaza, and had peace on all sides. 25 During Solomon’s lifetime Judah and Israel, from Dan to Beersheba, lived in safety, everyone under their own vine and under their own fig tree.

26 Solomon had four thousand stalls for chariot horses, and twelve thousand horses.

27 The district governors, each in his month, supplied provisions for King Solomon and all who came to the king’s table. They saw to it that nothing was lacking. 28 They also brought to the proper place their quotas of barley and straw for the chariot horses and the other horses.

29 God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore. 30 Solomon’s wisdom was greater than the wisdom of all the people of the East, and greater than all the wisdom of Egypt. 31 He was wiser than anyone else, including Ethan the Ezrahite—wiser than Heman, Kalkol and Darda, the sons of Mahol. And his fame spread to all the surrounding nations. 32 He spoke three thousand proverbs and his songs numbered a thousand and five. 33 He spoke about plant life, from the cedar of Lebanon to the hyssop that grows out of walls. He also spoke about animals and birds, reptiles and fish. 34 From all nations people came to listen to Solomon’s wisdom, sent by all the kings of the world, who had heard of his wisdom.

Timing of JehovahToday's scripture records the glory and prosperity that Israel achieved during the reign of King Solomon. These words reveal that the covenant made by Jehovah was fulfilled. However, it's important to note that while the covenant Jehovah made with Israel is eternal, the glory and prosperity achieved during Solomon's reign were temporary. With this in mind, let us look at today’s scripture verse by verse.
(20) The population of Judah and Israel became as numerous as the sand by the sea
First, the passage describes the population of Israel during King Solomon's reign as being as "numerous as the sand by the sea". This expression does not literally mean the actual number of people but signifies a great multitude. Importantly, this phrase hints at the fulfillment of God's promise. In Genesis 22:17, God promised Abraham, "I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore." Thus, it signifies the fulfillment of the covenant made with Abraham.
The phrase "eating and drinking and being joyful" signifies that every person in Israel enjoyed happiness. Despite the large population, there was no one who was neglected; everyone shared in this happiness.
(21) 솔로몬이 모든 왕국을 다스렸습니다

(21) Solomon ruled over all the kingdoms
Until now, Israel had been in constant conflict with neighboring nations. However, now neighboring nations served Israel and established peaceful relations (verse 24). The nations serving Israel extended from the River, namely the Euphrates in the north, to the Philistines in the west, and down to Egypt in the south. Verse 24 also mentions from Tiphsah, which is the region around the Euphrates River, to Gaza in the southwest along the Mediterranean coast. Repeating the extent of Israel's dominion emphasizes that the covenant regarding the land made by Jehovah has been fulfilled. Genesis 15:18 states, "On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram and said, 'To your descendants I give this land, from the Wadi of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates'". This emphasizes the fulfillment of the covenant regarding the land, a covenant Israel had clung to for a long time. Although they had formally conquered the land of Canaan about 400 years earlier, conflicts and struggles with foreign nations never ceased. But now, an era of peace has been ushered in.
(22-23) Solomon’s daily provisions
"Solomon's daily provisions" indicate the scale and economic power of Solomon's royal household. Thirty cors of fine flour, sixty cors of meal, ten fattened cattle, twenty pasture-fed cattle, and a hundred sheep and goats, in addition to deer, gazelles, roebucks, and fattened fowl, were used. This is estimated to be able to feed between 14,000 and 36,000 people.
(25) 각기 포도나무 아래와 무화과나무 아래에서 평안히 살았더라
25절은 솔로몬 왕의 통치 기간 동안의 번영을 비유적으로 묘사합니다. 단에서부터 브엘세바에 이르기까지는 남에서 북까지 이스라엘 전체를 의미합니다. 포도나무와 무화과나무는 이스라엘의 대표적인 작물로, '그 아래 안전하게 살았다'는 것은 최고 수준의 생활을 나타냅니다.

(25) under their own vine and fig tree.
Verse 25 metaphorically describes the prosperity during King Solomon's reign. From Dan to Beersheba represents the entirety of Israel, from the south to the north. The vine and fig tree are representative crops of Israel, and 'living safely under them' depicts the highest standard of life.
(26-28) Solomon’s military strength
This section records the military strength during King Solomon's reign. It indicates that there was no lack in military strength as well. Military strength was essential for a prosperous life at that time, and in this context, it is recorded as a positive element. Later, military strength, along with material wealth, territory, and diplomatic power, would all become factors in corruption.
(29-34) Solomon’s wisdom and understanding
Lastly, the scripture provides a detailed description of Solomon's wisdom and understanding. Solomon possessed a unique wisdom not seen in other kings. This wisdom was not abstract but concrete and practical, covering administration, military strategy, diplomacy, economics, natural science, law, and humanities.
여호와께서는 기적적인 방법이 아니라 솔로몬에게 주신 지혜를 통해 이스라엘과의 언약을 이루셨습니다. 이 지혜는 솔로몬에게 하신 약속에서 분명하게 나타났습니다. "내가 네게 지혜롭고 총명한 마음을 주어 네 앞에도 너와 같은 자가 없었으며 네 뒤에도 너와 같은 자가 일어나지 않게 하리라" (열왕기상 3:12-13).

Jehovah fulfilled His covenant with Israel, not through miraculous means, but through the wisdom given to Solomon, enabling him to govern the nation. This wisdom was evident in the promise made to Solomon: "I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be" (1 Kings 3:12-13).
Today's scripture continues to emphasize Solomon's wisdom. God gave wisdom to Solomon, and this wisdom served as a tool for fulfilling God's covenant. It's easy to apply this by saying that we should have wisdom like Solomon's, but that's not the case. God stated that there had never been anyone like Solomon before, nor would there ever be after him.
This might seem like an exaggeration, but it also implies that King Solomon represented the pinnacle of human wisdom, suggesting that nobody would be more wise than Solomon. If no further achievements are to be expected, what should we hope for?

Jeremiah 23:5 testifies, "The days are coming," declares the LORD, "when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land." Isaiah 11 prophesies that when a king comes, the knowledge of the LORD will fill the earth, and an ideal nation will be established. This prophecy suggests that what even the wisest king, Solomon, could not achieve would be accomplished through another king. In other words, the coming of our King of Kings, Jesus Christ.
A thousand years after the era of Solomon, our King, Jesus, finally came to this earth and to be our savior. The blessings enjoyed by the people in Solomon's era, was just a taste what us as Christians would be able to taste with Jesus.
Solomon's wisdom and understanding served as a conduit for the temporary fulfillment of Jehovah's covenant, previewing the complete covenant to be fulfilled later. However, the gospel of Jesus Christ we know provides the original wisdom that leads us into the eternal kingdom. God has given us this wisdom through Jesus Christ. So let us focus on Jesus’ wisdom today.
As Christians, we are going to have our seasons of ups and seasons of downs. But whatever season we are in, I pray that we will fully rely on the wisdom of God.

하나님은 우리의 창조주이심을 함께 기억 합시다. 우리가 있는 계절에 관계없이, 하나님은 영원히 선하시고 신실하시며, 항상 우리를 바른 길로 인도하실 것임을 기억하기를 기도합니다.
Solomon said this in Ecclesiastes 3:1-9. Let’s read it all together.
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: 2 a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, 3 a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, 4 a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, 5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, 6 a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, 7 a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, 8 a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.
The hope found in this passage is that these seasons of suffering, hate, and death will end. God will bring us through to better days marked by comfort, love, and new life. Although sometimes the future may seem bleak, God will bring us prosperity and peace. So through it all, we can rest in the peace Jesus has given us. Regardless of what we face, God remains in control and is the author of our days.
I pray that today we will be able to remember that God is our creator. I pray that through whatever season we are in, we will understand that God will forever be good and faithful and that He will always lead us down the correct path.
