59:1 나의 하나님이여 나의 원수에게서 나를 건지시고 일어나 치려는 자에게서 나를 높이 드소서
59:2 악을 행하는 자에게서 나를 건지시고 피 흘리기를 즐기는 자에게서 나를 구원하소서
1 Deliver me from my enemies, O God;
be my fortress against those who are attacking me.
2 Deliver me from evildoers
and save me from those who are after my blood.
59:3 그들이 나의 생명을 해하려고 엎드려 기다리고 강한 자들이 모여 나를 치려 하오니 여호와여 이는 나의 잘못으로 말미암음이 아니요 나의 죄로 말미암음도 아니로소이다
59:4 내가 허물이 없으나 그들이 달려와서 스스로 준비하오니 주여 나를 도우시기 위하여 깨어 살펴주소서
59:5 주님은 만군의 하나님 여호와, 이스라엘의 하나님이시오니 일어나 모든 나라들을 벌하소서 악을 행하는 모든 자들에게 은혜를 베풀지 마소서 (셀라)
3 See how they lie in wait for me!
Fierce men conspire against me
for no offense or sin of mine, Lord.
4 I have done no wrong, yet they are ready to attack me.
Arise to help me; look on my plight!
5 You, Lord God Almighty,
you who are the God of Israel,
rouse yourself to punish all the nations;
show no mercy to wicked traitors.
59:6 그들이 저물어 돌아와서 개처럼 울며 성으로 두루 다니고
59:7 그들의 입으로는 악을 토하며 그들의 입술에는 칼이 있어 이르기를 누가 들으리요 하나이다
59:8 여호와여 주께서 그들을 비웃으시며 모든 나라들을 조롱하시리이다
6 They return at evening,
snarling like dogs,
and prowl about the city.
7 See what they spew from their mouths—
the words from their lips are sharp as swords,
and they think, “Who can hear us?”
8 But you laugh at them, Lord;
you scoff at all those nations.
59:9 하나님은 나의 요새이시니 그의 힘으로 말미암아 내가 주를 바라리이다
59:10 나의 하나님이 그의 인자하심으로 나를 영접하시며 하나님이 나를 원수가 보응 받는 것을 내가 보게 하시리이다
9 You are my strength, I watch for you;
you, God, are my fortress,
10 my God on whom I can rely.
59:11 그들을 죽이지 마옵소서 나의 백성이 잊을까 하나이다 우리 방패 되신 주여 주의 능력으로 그들을 흩으시고 낮추소서
59:12 그들의 입술의 말은 곧 그들의 입의 죄라 그들이 말하는 저주와 거짓말로 말미암아 그들이 그 교만한 중에서 사로잡히게 하소서
59:13 진노하심으로 소멸하시되 없어지기까지 소멸하사 하나님이 야곱 중에서 다스리심을 땅 끝까지 알게 하소서 (셀라)
God will go before me
and will let me gloat over those who slander me.
11 But do not kill them, Lord our shield,
or my people will forget.
In your might uproot them
and bring them down.
12 For the sins of their mouths,
for the words of their lips,
let them be caught in their pride.
For the curses and lies they utter,
13 consume them in your wrath,
consume them till they are no more.
Then it will be known to the ends of the earth
that God rules over Jacob.
59:14 그들에게 저물어 돌아와서 개처럼 울며 성으로 두루 다니게 하소서
59:15 그들은 먹을 것을 찾아 유리하다가 배부름을 얻지 못하면 밤을 새우려니와
59:16 나는 주의 힘을 노래하며 아침에 주의 인자하심을 높이 부르오리니 주는 나의 요새이시며 나의 환난 날에 피난처심이니이다
14 They return at evening,

and howl if not satisfied.
16 But I will sing of your strength,

my refuge in times of trouble.
59:17 나의 힘이시여 내가 주께 찬송하오리니 하나님은 나의 요새이시며 나를 긍휼히 여기시는 하나님 이심이니이다
17 You are my strength, I sing praise to you;
you, God, are my fortress,
my God on whom I can rely.
오늘 시편 59편의 저자는 어려운 상황에 처해 있습니다. 시편 59편의 제목을 보시면 "사울이 사람을 보내어 다윗을 죽이려고 그 집을 지킨 때에"라고 기록 됐다고 합니다. 이 때는 사무엘상 19:11-12에 사울이 다윗을 죽이려는 음모를 꾸미던 사건을 언급합니다.
이와 같은 상황에서 다윗은 하나님께 구해달라고 기도합니다. 우선 1절을 살펴보겠습니다:
"나의 하나님이여 나의 원수에게서 나를 건지시고 일어나 치려는 자에게서 나를 높이 드소서." (개역개정)
ESV 번역에는 다음과 같이 나와 있습니다: "나의 하나님이여, 나를 일으키사 내 원수에게서 나를 구원하시며, 나를 일어서 치려 하는 자에게서 나를 보호하소서"
사울은 그 당시 다윗의 적이었습니다. 사울은 다윗의 기름 부음을 시기하며 다윗을 죽이려 했습니다. 하지만 다윗은 계속하여 적들로부터의 보호를 구하기 위해 하나님께 부르짖었습니다.
다윗은 하나님께서 적들이 닿을 수 없는 높은 곳에 그를 올려 주시고, 그를 보호하여 안전하게 해 달라고 기도합니다.
이를 통해 하나의 질문을 할 수 있습니다. 다윗이 하나님께 구하는 안전한 높은 곳은 어디입니까?
Today, the author of Psalm 59 is facing hard times. The title of Psalm 59 reads, " When Saul had sent men to watch David’s house in order to kill him." It is referring to the events that happened in 1 Samuel 19:11-12 when Saul tried to kill David.
In such a sticky situation, David prays to God for deliverance. Let's look at verse 1:
"Deliver me from my enemies, O God; be my fortress against those who are attacking me." (NIV)
In the ESV, it says: “Deliver me from my enemies, O my God; protect me from those who rise up against me”
Saul was the enemy of David at that time. Saul was jealous of David’s anointing. Numerous times Saul tried to kill David. However, David continued crying out to God for protection against his enemies.
David asks God to be lifted to a high place where the beasts cannot reach, where he can be protected and be safe.
From this, we can ask one question: where is this safe high place that the David requests from God?
첫째로, 그 높은 곳은 '하나님이 계신 곳'입니다.
하나님의 은혜가 있는 곳입니다. 독수리의 날개 아래, 하나님의 그늘 아래에 있는 것입니다.
제가 2학년 아니면 3학년 이였습니다. 한국에서 초등학교를 다니고 있었는데, 누가 저를 계속 놀렸어요. 그래서 제 사촌 형들이(고등학생) 저와 함께 학교에 갔습니다. 저를 다시는 놀림받지 않도록 해주었습니다. 그들이 제 손을 잡아줄 때, 저는 정말로 안전과 위안을 느꼈습니다. 제가 사촌 형들의 손을 잡는 것이 다윗이 말하는 높은 곳입니다. 우리가 하나님의 손을 잡는다면, 우리는 안전할 것입니다. 하나님은 우리의 방패이시고, 우리를 보호하실 것입니다. 우리가 우리의 아버지 하나님에게 초점을 맞추면, 우리의 적들은 떨며 도망갈 것입니다.
두번째로, 다윗이 찾는 높은 곳은 '하나님의 말씀이 전해지는 곳'입니다.
다윗을 공격하는 적들은 어떻게 그를 공격합니까? 7절에는 "그들의 입으로는 악을 토하며 그들의 입술에는 칼이 있어 이르기를 누가 들으리요 하나이다"라고 말합니다. 그 악한 자들은 하나님의 존재를 부인하고 악한 말을 퍼뜨리며, 믿는자를 조롱하고 거룩함을 비웃습니다. 그리고 12절에서는 "그들의 입술의 말은 곧 그들의 입의 죄라 그들이 말하는 저주와 거짓말로 말미암아 그들이 그 교만한 중에서 사로잡히게 하소서"라고 이어집니다. 적들의 입에서 나오는 말은 이 세상의 더러운 것들로 가득 차있습니다. 이처럼 사악한 세상 앞에서 사탄의 공격을 이기는 방법은 높은 곳에서 하나님의 말씀을 듣는 것입니다.
First, that high place is 'where God is present.' It is where God's protective grace resides. It is under the wings of God.
I remember when I was maybe in 2nd or 3rd grade, I was in Korea. And this one day, I was getting made fun of. So my cousins who were in high school came to school with me one day. They made sure that I would never be made fun of again. And when they grabbed my hand, I just felt so safe. Me holding onto my cousin’s hand is the high place David is referring to. If we hold onto God’s hands, we will be able to feel safe. God will become our shield and protector. When we focus on our Father God, our enemies will tremble and flee.
Second, the high place David seeks is 'where God's word is proclaimed.' How do the enemies of David attack him? In verse 7, it says, "See what they spew from their mouths—the words from their lips are sharp as swords, and they think, “Who can hear us?”'"
They deny the existence of God and spew all sorts of evil words, mocking believers and ridiculing the pursuit of holiness.
And in verse 12, it continues, "For the sins of their mouths, for the words of their lips, let them be caught in their pride. For the curses and lies they utter,"
The malicious words coming from the mouths of the enemies represent the various filthy thoughts and ideologies spread by the Satanic forces in this world. They mock believers and ridicule the pursuit of holiness.
In the face of such a wicked world, the way to be victorious over the attacks of Satan is listening for the Word of God from a high place.
세 번째로, 다윗이 요청하는 높은 곳은 예수의 십자가가 세워진 골고다 언덕입니다.
9절에는 "하나님은 나의 요새이시니 그의 힘으로 말미암아 내가 주를 바라리이다"라고 말합니다.
다윗은 여기서 하나님이 요새 이시라고 고백합니다.
요새란 무엇인가요? 요새는 적으로부터 보호를 받을 수 있는 곳을 의미합니다. 이 요새는 우리 자신의 힘으로 올라갈 수 있는 곳이 아니라, 십자가에서 흘린 피의 능력인 하나님의 힘으로 체험할 수 있는 곳입니다.
우리가 십자가를 바라볼 때, 죄의 구덩이에 빠진 우리가 나올 수 있는 것입니다. 그리고 우리의 영혼은 하나님의 은혜가 넘치는 은혜의 보좌 앞으로 갑니다. 십자가에서 흘린 피의 은혜 없이는 우리는 결코 구원을 받을 수 없었을 것입니다.
우리의 일상에서도 사탄이 우는 사자처럼 두루 다니며 누구를 삼킬지 찾습니다. 이러한 위험한 상황 속에서 우리의 영혼이 안전할 수 있는 유일한 방법은 십자가에 못 박힌 예수님을 바라보는 것입니다.
그러므로 매일 우리는 개인적인 말씀묵상과 예배의 시간을 갖어야 합니다. 그러기만 하면 우리는 하나님의 날개 아래에 있을 수 있습니다. 오늘, 저는 여러분 모두가 하나님의 놀라운 은혜를 바라보며 삶을 살 수 있기를 축복합니다. 왜냐하면 하나님은 우리를 보호하실 것입니다. 우리가 십자가에 흘린 피의 힘에 의지하고, 하나님이 계신 높은 곳으로 나아가고, 그분의 말씀이 전해지는 곳으로 가고, 간절함을 가지고 하나님 앞에 나아간다면, 하나님께서 반드시 우리와 함께 하실 것입니다.
Third, the high place David requests is the hill of Golgotha where the cross of Jesus was. In verse 9, it says, "You are my strength, I watch for you; you, God, are my fortress, my God on whom I can rely."
David confesses that God is his fortress, and he watches for Him.
What is a fortress? A fortress is meant to protect against hostile enemies. eThis fortress is not a place we can climb with our own strength, but a place we can experience with the power of God, which is the power of the blood shed on the cross.
When we look upon the cross, our souls that are trapped in the pit of sin, are lifted up. And our souls go before the throne of grace, where God's grace abounds. Without the grace of the blood shed on the cross, we could have never received salvation.
Even in our daily lives, Satan prowls like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. The only way for our souls to dwell in safety amid such danger is to look upon Jesus, who was crucified on the cross.
Therefore, every day, we must have our personal time of devotion and worship. Only then will we be able to be under the wings of God. Today, I bless all of you to live your lives looking upon the amazing grace of God. Because God will protect us. If we rely on the power of the blood shed on the cross, if we go before the high place where God dwells, if we go where His Word is proclaimed, if we come to God with desperation and yearning, God will surely be with us.
이사야서 54:17에 이렇게 기록 되어 있습니다.
너를 치려고 제조된 모든 연장이 쓸모가 없을 것이라 일어나 너를 대적하여 송사하는 모든 혀는 네게 정죄를 당하리니 이는 여호와의 종들의 기업이요 이는 그들이 내게서 얻은 공의니라 여호와의 말씀이니라
이 성경말씀은 이스라엘에게 향한 말씀이지만, 우리에게도 적용되는 말씀입니다. 우리는 하나님과 함께 있기 때문에 어떤 적도 우리를 무너트릴 수 없습니다. 우리가 태어날 때부터 우리의 이름을 아셨고, 우리의 모든 걸 알고 계시는분이 바로 주님 이십니다. 우리가 어떠한 어려움이 있던지, 혹은 어떤 적이 우리를 공격할 지라도, 주님은 우리를 제일 잘 아시고 모든 상황 가운데 역사 하십니다.
우리는 세상으로 부터 보호를 받으려면 말씀에 의지해야 합니다. 우리는 모든 삶의 어려움 속에서 그분의 존재에 대한 확신에 기대어야 합니다. 우리를 향한 어떠한 무기도 쓸모가 없을 것이며, 우리를 비판하는 모든 혀가 정죄될 것입니다.
그래서 우리는 한 공동체로써 말씀에 더욱 집중합시다. 그 때 반드시 하나님은 역사 하실것입니다.
Isaiah 54:17 says this:
No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me,” declares the Lord.
Although this specific passage may have been addressed to Israel, it applies to us as well. No enemies will rise above us because we have God on our side. We have to remember that The Lord formed us in our mother's womb. He knows every step we take, and no matter what difficulties we encounter, or what the enemy of our soul schemes against us, the Lord knows the way of His righteous ones, and He works in every circumstance of life for our eternal good and His greater glory.
Let us depend on the Word of truth for His protection from all dangers. Let us rest on the assurances of His presence in every one of life's difficulties, knowing that no weapon formed against us will prosper, and every tongue that accuses us in judgement will be condemned.
As one church, let us focus even more on the Word of God where God will be present in our lives. Then we will truly see God work in our lives.
