7:1 바리새인들과 또 서기관 중 몇이 예루살렘에서 와서 예수께 모여들었다가
7:2 그의 제자 중 몇 사람이 부정한 손 곧 씻지 아니한 손으로 떡 먹는 것을 보았더라
7:3 (바리새인들과 모든 유대인들은 장로들의 전통을 지키어 손을 잘 씻지 않고서는 음식을 먹지 아니하며
7:4 또 시장에서 돌아와서도 물을 뿌리지 않고서는 먹지 아니하며 그 외에도 여러 가지를 지키어 오는 것이 있으니 잔과 주발과 놋그릇을 씻음이러라)
1 The Pharisees and some of the teachers of the law who had come from Jerusalem gathered around Jesus 2 and saw some of his disciples eating food with hands that were defiled, that is, unwashed. 3 (The Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they give their hands a ceremonial washing, holding to the tradition of the elders. 4 When they come from the marketplace they do not eat unless they wash. And they observe many other traditions, such as the washing of cups, pitchers and kettles.)
7:5 이에 바리새인들과 서기관들이 예수께 묻되 어찌하여 당신의 제자들은 장로들의 전통을 준행하지 아니하고 부정한 손으로 떡을 먹나이까
5 So the Pharisees and teachers of the law asked Jesus, “Why don’t your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders instead of eating their food with defiled hands?”
7:6 이르시되 이사야가 너희 외식하는 자에 대하여 잘 예언하였도다 기록하였으되 이 백성이 입술로는 나를 공경하되 마음은 내게서 멀도다
7:7 사람의 계명으로 교훈을 삼아 가르치니 나를 헛되이 경배하는도다 하였느니라
6 He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written:
“‘These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
7 They worship me in vain;
their teachings are merely human rules.’
7:8 너희가 하나님의 계명은 버리고 사람의 전통을 지키느니라
8 You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.”
7:9 또 이르시되 너희가 너희 전통을 지키려고 하나님의 계명을 잘 저버리는도다
7:10 모세는 네 부모를 공경하라 하고 또 아버지나 어머니를 모욕하는 자는 죽임을 당하리라 하였거늘
7:11 너희는 이르되 사람이 아버지에게나 어머니에게나 말하기를 내가 드려 유익하게 할 것이 고르반 곧 하나님께 드림이 되었다고 하기만 하면 그만이라 하고
7:12 자기 아버지나 어머니에게 다시 아무 것도 하여 드리기를 허락하지 아니하여
7:13 너희가 전한 전통으로 하나님의 말씀을 폐하며 또 이같은 일을 많이 행하느니라 하시고
9 And he continued, “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions! 10 For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and mother,’ and, ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’ 11 But you say that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is Corban (that is, devoted to God)— 12 then you no longer let them do anything for their father or mother. 13 Thus you nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many things like that.”
예수님은 많은 사람들에게 사랑을 받았었습니다. 동시에 많은 사람들에게 반대를 받았습니다. 그 중 하나는 바로 바리새인들 이었습니다. 바리새인들은 성경 학자이자 그 시기에 정치적 및 종교적 기준에 큰 영향력을 행사한 지도자들 이었습니다. 그들은 율법과 성경의 학자들이었으며 쓰여진 법 뿐만 아니라 모세 때부터 내려온 구전 법(구전으로 전해진 전통)도 따라야 한다고 가르쳤습니다.
"바리새인"이라는 이름은 히브리어로 "분리된 자"를 의미하며, 바리새인들이 다른 사람들과 얼마나 멀리 떨어져 있었는지를 깊이 이해시켜줍니다. 그들은 대부분 서기관과 법학자로 이루어져 있었기 때문에 사람들과는 멀리 떨어져 법을 공부했습니다. 바리새인들은 대부분 다른 이들보다 나은 자신들로 생각하여 다른 이들이 더럽고 가치 없다고 생각했습니다. 그들은 "죄인"이나 다른 법을 제대로 따르지 않는 사람들과 함께 있지 않으려고 했습니다. 이것은 예수님이 실제로 가르친 것과는 분명한 차이였습니다. 오늘의 본문을 통해 예수님이 우리에게 기독인으로서 어떻게 살아갈지를 가르치고 있는지 알아봅시다.
During the time of Jesus, he was loved by many people. At the same time, he was opposed by many. One of them were the pharisees. The Pharisees were bible scholars and the leaders who had a lot of influence over political and religious standards during that time. They were the students of both the law and the Torah. They taught that not only should you follow the written law but also the oral law (oral tradition handed down from the time of Moses).
The name “Pharisee” literally means “separate one,” which us a deeper understanding of just how removed the Pharisees were from their fellow people. Because they were most likely made up of scribes and legal experts, they were distanced from regular society to study law. Pharisees also distanced themselves from others because they saw themselves as better than most. They thought others were dirty and unworthy. They avoided being around “sinners” and other people that didn’t follow the laws correctly. This was a distinct difference from what Jesus actually taught. Through today’s scriptures, let us see how Jesus is teaching us how to live as Christians.
1절에서는 바리새인들과 서기관들이 예수 주위에 모여들고, 2절에서는 그들이 몇몇 제자들이 손을 씻지 않고 떡을 먹는 것을 목격합니다.
그 시기에는 사람들이 손으로 직접 음식을 먹는데, 손을 깨끗이 씻는 것은 좋은 습관이었습니다. 그러나 문제는 이러한 전통이 예배와 일상 생활에서 믿음을 측정하는 절대 기준이 되는 경우 입니다.
유대인들은 하나님을 섬기기 위해 여러 규칙과 규정을 만들어 냈고, 이러한 규정들을 통해 사람들의 믿음과 인간성을 평가하는 기준으로 삼았습니다. 그에 반해 예수님은 구원을 받으려면 인간이 만든 계명이 아니라 하나님의 계명을 따라야 한다고 강조했습니다. 그리고 예수님은 하나님에 대한 진정한 관계와 마음이 없는 외부적이고 형식적인 예배에 반대했습니다.
6-8절에서 예수님은 이사야의 말로 핵심 문제에 직면해 그들을 비난했습니다. 예수님은 바리새인들과 서기관들이 입이나 행동으로는 하나님을 존경한다 말하면서, 마음은 하나님에서 멀리 떨어져 있다고 비난했습니다. 인간이 만든 계명으로 하나님을 섬기고 진정한 관계와 마음이 없는 일은 헛된 일이라고 선언했습니다. 그들의 성실함과 노력은 자기 만족을 위한 우상 숭배와 같았습니다.
In Verse 1, scribes and teachers of the law are gathering around Jesus and in verse 2, they witness some of the disciples eating food with unwashed hands.
Considering the dining habits of that time when people directly ate food with their hands in the desert, washing hands thoroughly was a good practice. However, the problem arises when these traditions become an absolute standard for measuring one's faith in worship and daily life.
The Jews created numerous rules and regulations to serve God, evaluating people's faith and humanity based on these regulations. Jesus, on the other hand, emphasized that to enter salvation and be recognized as pure before God, one must follow God's commandments rather than human-made ones. He spoke against the external, formalistic worship that lacked a genuine relationship and heart towards God.
In Verse 6-8, Jesus directly addressed the core issue by quoting the words of Isaiah. He accused them of honoring God with their lips (formalism) while their hearts were far from God. He declared that serving God with human-made commandments, without genuine relationship and heart, is futile. Their diligence and efforts amounted to idolatry for their own satisfaction.
9-13절에서는 예수님께서 바리새인들이 얼마나 위선적으로 살고 있는지를 보여줍니다. 예수는 그들이 "고르반"이라고 하는 것으로 그들이 율법을 뒤집어 쓴 사례를 들었습니다. 모세는 하나님을 공경하고 부모를 공경하라고 가르쳤지만 바리새인들은 부모를 도울 대신 그들에게 도움이 필요한 상황에서 대신 제단에 돈을 드릴 수 있다고 가르쳤습니다.
부모가 나이 들면 개인적으로나 금전적으로 양육이 필요해질 것입니다. 그들을 돌보는 것은 그들을 공경하는 일의 일부이지만, 젊은 세대가 더 자기 중심적으로 변할수록 이러한 상황에서 부모에게 도움을 주지 않고 제단에 향응이라고 선언하는 전통이 생겨났습니다. 이러한 기부는 곡물 헌물(레위기 2:1) 또는 가축 헌물(레위기 1:2)의 형태로 이루어졌습니다. 이 기부를 하나님에게 헌물로 봉헌함으로써 그 동안 부모를 위해 도움을 제공할 책임에서 벗어날 수 있었습니다. 이러한 기부금은 원한다면 제단에 기부될 수 있었습니다.
이러한 기금을 “고르반”으로 선언하면 부모를 위한 필요한 돌봄을 제공하는 것이 불가능해지게 됩니다. 이러한 기금은 제단에 주어지지 않아도 되기 때문에 이를 개인적인 용도로 유지하는 부정직한 방법이 되었습니다. 결과적으로 이러한 인간의 전통은 노쇠한 부모를 보호하려는 목적으로 설계된 모세의 법에 반하는 방식으로 인간의 마음의 타락에 틈을 만들었습니다.
In Verses 9-13, we see Jesus’ example of how the pharisees are living as hypocrites.
Jesus gives the proof of their corruption of the Law by citing their use of “Corban.” Moses had instructed God’s people to “honor their father and mother” but the Pharisees negated that command by teaching that they could give money to the temple instead of helping their parents in need.
As father and mother age there would be a growing need for both to be cared for, both personally and financially. To meet those needs is part of honoring them, but as the younger population became more self-centered, a tradition was established that allowed funds that would be used in the care of parents to be declared Corban or legally dedicated to God as a future offering. These funds were in the form of a grain offering (Leviticus 2:1) or an offering of livestock (Leviticus 1:2). By making this dedication to God, tradition freed one from responsibility under the law to provide for parents. These funds could be given to the temple, if so desired.
Declaring these funds Corban made them unavailable to provide the needed care for parents. Since these funds did not have to be given to the temple, it became a dishonest way of keeping these funds for one’s personal use. As a result, such human traditions allowed room for the depravity of the human heart to oppose the Law of Moses, a law designed to protect the weak and helpless, in this case, parents in their feeble old age.
예수님은 이로써 그들이 일부 법을 따를 의지가 없을 때 법의 일부를 따르지 않으려고 의도적으로 방법을 개발하면서 하나님의 말씀을 헛되게 만들고 있다고 명확히 말씀 하셨습니다. 이러한 고르반 예제는 그들이 법의 일부를 무시하고 거부하는 것을 보여주는 많은 일 중 하나입니다.
우리는 바리새인과 서기관처럼 살고 있나요? 우리는 위선자처럼 살고 있나요?
우리는 우리 자신에게 좋은 “기독교인이야” 라고 셀프 칭찬하며 하나님의 법만 따르고 마음은 멀리 떨어져 있지는 않나요? 우리는 믿고 싶은 것과, 믿기 싫은 것을 구분하면서 신앙생활을 하나요?
우리는 성경을 처음부터 끝까지 알고 있고 매달 십일조를 드리며 모세에게 주어진 모든 계명을 따르지만 마음은 믿지 않는가요?
Barna 연구소는 조사를 통해 모든 기독교인 중 14%만이 기독교인으로 살고 있다고 밝혀졌습니다. 이것은 기독교인의 86%가 위선자로 산다는 것을 의미합니다. 이 수치는 정확하지 않을 수 있지만 86%와 14%의 차이는 매우 큽니다. 이는 7명 중 6명의 기독교인이 기독교인으로 살지 않는다는 것을 의미합니다. 이는 우리 모두에게 충격적이고 깨달음을 준 조사입니다.
중요한 것은 우리의 마음입니다. 우리는 "기독교적"인 일을 하고 교회에서 봉사하더라도 바리새인과 서기관처럼 마음으로는 믿지 않을 수 있습니다. 우리의 마음이 변하려면 하나님의 말씀에 모립해야 합니다. 기독교인 공동체로서 하나님의 말씀에 의해 완전히 변화하고 새롭게 되기를 기도합니다.
Jesus made it clear that in so doing, they were making void the word of God as they intentionally developed ways to avoid obeying those parts of the law they didn’t like. This example of Corban is just one of many things they did in disregarding and rejecting aspects of the law.
Are we living like the pharisees and the scribes? Are we living as hypocrites?
Do we call ourselves good Christians, deacons, and elders and yet we only focus on the law while our hearts are far away from Him. Do we pick and choose what we are going to believe and what we are not going to believe?
We know the Bible from the beginning to the end, we give our tithes every month, we follow all the commandments given to Moses, and yet our hearts don’t believe.
Barna institute had a poll done and found out only 14% of all Christians were living as Christians. That means 86% of the Christians are living as hypocrites. This number might not be accurate but the difference between 86 percent and 14% are huge. This means that 6 out of every 7 Christians are not living as Christians. This should be a very shocking and an awakening poll to all of us.
The main problem is our hearts. Although we do “Christian” things and serve in the church, just like the pharisees and the scribes, we don’t believe with our hearts. It is because we don’t pray and have an intimate relationship with God. For our hearts to be transformed, we need to cling onto the Word of God. I pray that as a community of believers, we will be completely transformed and renewed by the Word of God
