16 Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day.

17 These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.
2:18 아무도 꾸며낸 겸손과 천사 숭배를 이유로 너희를 정죄하지 못하게 하라 그가 그 본 것에 의지하여 그 육신의 생각을 따라 헛되어 과장하고
18 Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you. Such a person also goes into great detail about what they have seen; they are puffed up with idle notions by their unspiritual mind.
2:19 머리를 붙들지 아니하는지라 온 몸이 머리로 말미암아 마디와 힘줄로 공급함을 받고 연합하여 하나님이 자라게 하시므로 자라느니라
19 They have lost connection with the head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow.
2:20 너희가 세상의 초등학문에서 그리스도와 함께 죽었거든 어찌하여 세상에 사는 것과 같이 규례에 순종하느냐
20 Since you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its rules:
2:21 (곧 붙잡지도 말고 맛보지도 말고 만지지도 말라 하는 것이니
21 “Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”?
2:22 이 모든 것은 한때 쓰이고는 없어지리라) 사람의 명령과 가르침을 따르느냐
22 These rules, which have to do with things that are all destined to perish with use, are based on merely human commands and teachings.
2:23 이런 것들은 자의적 숭배와 겸손과 몸을 괴롭게 하는 데는 지혜 있는 모양이나 오직 육체 따르는 것을 금하는 데는 조금도 유익이 없느니라
23 Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.
요즘 한국의 ‘오은영 리포트’라는 프로그램에서 알콜 중독자들에 관한 문제를 다루는 영상을 보았습니다. 예전에 과학자들이 다음과 같은 결론을 내린적이 있다고 합니다. “한번 술에 중독 되었던 사람들은 치료 이후에 다시 술을 마실 가능성이 거의 없다” 여러분은 이 말에 동의 하시나요?
그래서 취재기자들이 실험에 참여했던 중독자들을 조사해본 결과 전혀 다른 결론을 얻어냈습니다. 중독에서 해방되었던 사람들은 대부분 어려운 문제를 가지고 있었습니다. 바로 중독의 문제에서 완전히 자유롭지 못했던 것입니다. 어떤 중독자들은 자살까지 하기도 합니다.
결국 과학자들의 관찰과 실험은 사실과 전혀 다른 것으로 판명 되었습니다. 인간의 지식과 방법은 절대적일 수 없습니다. 또한 내가 경험한 것이 전부도 아닙니다. 세상에 절대적인 것은 없으며, 오직 하니님만이 변치 않으시는 절대 진리인줄 믿습니다.
I watched a video from the 'Oh Eun-young Report' program in Korea recently, addressing the issue of alcohol addiction. It mentioned a conclusion reached by scientists: "Those who have been addicted to alcohol once are unlikely to drink again after treatment." Do you agree with this statement?
However, investigative reporters found a completely different conclusion after surveying individuals who had participated in experiments related to addiction. Many of those who had been liberated from addiction were facing difficult problems. They were not entirely free from the challenges of addiction, and some even resorted to suicide.
Ultimately, the observations and experiments conducted by scientists were proven to be different from reality. Human knowledge and methods cannot be absolute. Moreover, what I have experienced is not the entirety of truth. I believe that there is nothing absolute in the world, and only the Lord is the unchanging absolute truth.
16-17절 입니다.
오늘 본문은 골로새 교회에 들어온 이단들이 주장한 구체적인 내용들이 16절 이하에 나타나 있습니다. 16절을 보면 이들은 ‘먹고 마시는 것’과 ‘절기나 월삭이나 안식일’과 관련된 법들을 지킬 것을 요구 했습니다. 즉 그들은 유대교에서 강조하는 음식법과 절기법을 그리스도인들이라면 꼭 지켜야 한다고 주장한 것입니다.
이러한 주장은 갈라디아서 4:10에도 나타나며, 사도 바울이 복음을 전하는 곳마다 와서 제기했던 유대주의자들의 주장과 비슷한 맥락을 가지고 있었습니다. 이에 대해 사도 바울은 17절에 이렇게 말합니다. “이것들은 장래 일의 그림자이나 몸은 그리스도의 것이니라” 아멘.
구약 시대에 주어진 음식법과 절기법은 장차 올 것들의 그림자였습니다. 곧 어렴풋이나마 그리스도의 것들을 가리키는 기능들을 했던 것입니다. 그러나 몸, 곧 실체는 그리스도의 것 입니다.
여기서 그리스도의 것이란 직접적으로 그리스도 자신을 가리키는 것뿐만 아니라, 그리스도와 관련된 모든 것들을 포함한 포괄적인 의미를 가지고 있습니다. 구약의 여러 절기들이나 의식들은 신약 시대에 오실 그리스도 또는 그와 관련된 진리를 가리키는 역할을 했습니다.
Verses 16-17:
Today's passage includes specific content asserted by the heretics who entered the Colossian church, as seen in verses 16 and below. In verse 16, they demanded the observance of laws related to "eating and drinking" and "festivals, new moons, and sabbaths." In other words, they insisted that Christians must strictly follow the dietary and festival laws emphasized in Judaism.
This assertion is similar to the context presented by Judaizers that Paul confronted in Galatians 4:10. Regarding this, the apostle Paul states in verse 17, "These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ." Amen.
The dietary and festival laws given in the Old Testament were shadows of things to come. They vaguely pointed to the functions related to Christ. However, the substance, the reality, belongs to Christ.
Here, "belonging to Christ" not only directly refers to Christ Himself but also encompasses the comprehensive meaning of everything related to Christ. The various feasts and rituals in the Old Testament played a role in signifying the truth related to Christ in the New Testament era.
그러나 이제 그 그림자의 실체가 왔으니 이러한 법들은 그 기능을 상실 하였으며, 무조건적인 의무나 강제성의 필요가 없어젔다는 것을 의미합니다. 그리스도께서 이미 오셔서 복음이 전파되고 율법을 완성 하였음에도 불구하고 아직도 그림자인 음식법과 절기법을 지키라고 강요하는 것은 곧 그리스도의 오심을 무력케 하고 율법의 완성을 부정하는 것이기 때문에 바울은 이를 강력히 반대했던 것입니다.
우리가 성경 말씀을 읽거나 또는 구약의 율법들을 보면서 글자의 표면적인 의미만을 보지 않기를 바랍니다. 말씀 넘어에 계시고 말씀 속에서 우리에게 하시고자 하는 주님의 마음을 찾고 알아가야 합니다. 여기 모인 모든 분들도 말씀의 은혜, 말씀의 긍휼을 날마다 경험하시고 삶속에서 살아내시는 성도님들이 되시기를 소망합니다.
18-19절 입니다.
이어서 18~19절에서는 ‘겸손함과 천사 숭배함을 경계하라’ 라고 말하고 있습니다. 겸손이란 단어의 헬라어 원어는 “타페이노 프로쉬네” 라고 합니다. 이것은 ‘비천한 생각’을 뜻합니다. 다시말해 성경에서 말하는 겸손이란 우리가 일반적으로 생각하는 인사를 잘 하고, 말을 공손하게 하는 것을 뜻하는 것이 아니라, '자기를 낮추고, 자기를 부인하다’ 라는 의미를 가지고 있습니다.
그래서 성경에서는 겸손을 좋은 덕목으로 권장하고 있는 것입니다. 그러나 골로새 교회에 들어온 이단들은 겸손을 가장하고 사람들을 미혹하였기 때문에 이들에게 속지 말고 경계 하라고 바울은 말합니다. 이단들은 자신의 정체를 숨기기 위해 자신을 아주 겸손하고 온유한 사람인 것처럼 가장할 수 있습니다.
However, now that the substance of these shadows has come, these laws have lost their function, and there is no unconditional obligation or compulsion. Insisting on the observance of dietary and festival laws, which are still shadows, undermines the coming of Christ and denies the completion of the law. That is why Paul strongly opposed it.
I hope that as we read the Scriptures or look at the laws of the Old Testament, we do not just see the surface meaning of the words. We must go beyond the words and seek and understand the heart of the Lord in His Word. I hope that all of you gathered here will experience and live out the grace and mercy of the Word in your daily lives.
Verses 18-19:
In verses 18-19, Paul warns to "defend against humility and angel worship." The Greek original word for humility is "tapeinophrosyne," meaning "to think lowly." In other words, the humility mentioned in the Bible does not refer to being polite and speaking courteously, but it means 'lowering oneself, denying oneself.'
Therefore, the Bible encourages humility as a virtue. However, the heretics who entered the Colossian church deceived people by feigning humility and appeared as very humble and gentle individuals.
심지어는 다른 사람을 잘 도와주며 도덕적으로 깨끗한 사람인 것처럼 가장 합니다. 예수님께서는 마태복음 7:15 에 “거짓 선지자들을 삼가라 양의 옷을 입고 너희에게 나아오나 속에는 노략질하는 이리라”, 또 바울은 고린도후서 11:14에 ‘사탄도 자기를 광명의 천사로 가장 한다’ 라고 말합니다.
오늘날 사람들 역시 거짓 겸손을 실천할 때가 있는데 그것은 타인이 자신을 바라볼때 영적인 사람이라고 생각하게 하고 보이게 하려는 모습이라고 볼 수 있습니다. 그러면서 나의 안과 밖의 모습, 또 교회에서와 삶의 모습이 겸손이라는 거짓 옷을 두르고 이중적인 모습으로 살고 있습니다.
겸손은 주님의 마음을 알고 경험하는 것입니다. 그래서 ‘진정한 그리스도인의 겸손’은 주님께서 우리를 위해 행하신 일들을 인정하고 깨닫고 믿는데서 나오는 것입니다. 거짓 겸손은 자기 중심적이며, 진정한 겸손은 하나님 중심적인 것입니다. 여기계신 모든 성도님들의 마음 중심에 늘 주님을 모시고 생각하며 진정한 겸손의 삶을 살아내시기를 기도합니다.
Some even help others and appear morally clean. Jesus warns in Matthew 7:15, "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves." Similarly, Paul says in 2 Corinthians 11:14, "Satan disguises himself as an angel of light."
Today, people also engage in false humility, presenting themselves as spiritual when viewed by others. In doing so, they exhibit dualistic behaviors, living with a false appearance in both internal and external aspects of themselves, both in the church and in their lives.
True humility is knowing and experiencing the heart of the Lord. Therefore, 'true Christian humility' comes from acknowledging, realizing, and believing in what the Lord has done for us. False humility is self-centered, while true humility is God-centered. I pray that all the saints here will continually look to the Lord in their hearts and live a life of true humility.
그러면서 이 거짓 겸손을 가장한 사람들은 하나님께 나아가려면 다양한 계급의 천사들을 통해서만 가능하며, 하나님이 계신 곳에 도달 하려면 천사를 숭배해야 한다고 가르쳤습니다. 그러나 ‘성경은 천사를 하나님의 종이며 그들을 숭배하는 것을 금한다’고 말합니다. 요한계시록 22장 8-9절입니다.
8 이것들을 보고 들은 자는 나 요한이니 내가 듣고 볼 때에 이 일을 내게 보이던 천사의 발 앞에 경배하려고 엎드렸더니 9 그가 내게 말하기를 나는 너와 네 형제 선지자들과 또 이 두루마리의 말을 지키는 자들과 함께 된 종이니 그리하지 말고 하나님께 경배하라 하더라 아멘.
이렇게 그들은 자기들만이 이러한 것을 경험할 수 있다고 말하면서, 그들의 영적인 탁월성을 스스로 주장하고 있었습니다. 그러나 바울은 단호하게 비판합니다. “그 육신의 생각을 따라 헛되이 과장한다” 즉 그들의 자랑은 자기들의 마음의 지시를 받은 것이라고 말하는 것입니다.
그러면서 그들은 극히 개인적인 종교적 경험을 그들의 권위의 근거로 사용함으로써 그리스도를 배척하고 있었습니다. 이들의 근본적인 문제는 그들의 삶이 그리스도께 연결이 되어 있지 않다는 것입니다.
우리의 마음과 생각, 삶의 전반적인 모습들이 주님과 끊어지고 단절되어 있으면,나도 모르게 내 자신을 높이게 되고, 나를 드러내려고 하는 마음이 가득하게 될 것입니다. 그러므로 늘 머리되신 주님을 바라보고 의지하며 내 자신을 점검하면서 주님만을 붙들고 나아가는 저와 여러분 되시기를 소망합니다.
While professing false humility, those who do so claimed that reaching God requires going through various ranks of angels and worshiping angels to reach the presence of God. However, the Bible says, "Do not worship angels; I am a fellow servant of yours and of your brethren the prophets and of those who heed the words of this book; worship God!" (Revelation 22:8-9).
(8) I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I had heard and seen them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who had been showing them to me.
(9) But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your fellow prophets and with all who keep the words of this scroll. Worship God!”
In claiming that only they could experience such things, they were asserting their spiritual superiority. However, Paul strongly criticizes them, saying, "They are inflated without cause by their fleshly mind" – meaning that their boasting is based on their own self-directed impulses.
In doing so, they were rejecting Christ by using their highly personal religious experiences as the basis for their authority. The fundamental issue with them was that their lives were not connected to Christ.
If our hearts, thoughts, and overall lives are disconnected from the Lord, we may unknowingly exalt ourselves, and our hearts will be filled with a desire to reveal ourselves. Therefore, I hope that both you and I will always look to the Lord, examine ourselves, and hold fast to the Lord as we move forward.
20-23절 입니다.
20절을 함께 읽겠습니다. “너희가 세상의 초등학문에서 그리스도와 함께 죽었거든 어찌하여 세상에 사는 것과 같이 규례에 순종하느냐” 아멘.
그리스도인들은 세상의 초등학문 즉 세상의 기본 원리들, 세상의 기준과 말 등에서 그리스도와 함께 죽었음을 의미합니다. 다시말해 ‘그리스도를 대적하는 악한 영들과 사탄의 세력의 권세 아래에 있지 않고, 예수님께서 죽으시고 부활하셨을 때 공중의 권세 잡은 자들에게서 승리했기 때문에 더이상 그들의 지배를 받지 않는다’ 라고 말하는 것입니다.
바울은 이미 이긴 싸움이고 정복한 권세에 골로새 교인들이 왜 굴복하려고 하는지 의아해 했습니다. 또한 거짓 교사들은 자기들의 사상을 교리로 가르치려고 하고 있었습니다. 22절은 “사람의 명령과 가르침을 따르느냐” 라고말합니다. 그들은 자기들의 규정과 규칙을 하나님의 명령과 같은 수준에 놓고, 자기들의 규정을 하나님의 은혜를 누리는 조건으로 삼았던 것입니다.
골로새 교인들은 거짓 교사들이 요구하는 규정과 규칙들이 좋게 보였던듯 합니다. 실제로 율법주의의 여러 형태는 오늘날도 여전히 많은 사람들을 유혹하고 미혹하고 있습니다. 신앙적인 규칙의 목록을 따르는 것은 강력한 자제력을 요구하며, 사람을 현명하고 영적인 것처럼 보이게 합니다.
Verses 20-23:
Let's read verse 20 together: "If with Christ you died to the elemental spirits of the world, why, as if you were still alive in the world, do you submit to regulations?" Amen.
Christians have died with Christ to the elemental principles of the world, meaning they are no longer under the dominion of the evil spirits and the authority of Satan. Paul wonders why the Colossian believers are willing to submit to these forces when they have already won the battle. Moreover, false teachers were trying to teach their own doctrines as if they were commands from God.
Verse 22 questions, "These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting self-made religion and asceticism and severity to the body, but they are of no value in stopping the indulgence of the flesh." Paul emphasizes that adhering to the regulations and rules proposed by false teachers may appear wise and disciplined but holds no real power in overcoming the desires of the flesh.
The Colossian Christians seemed to find the regulations demanded by the false teachers appealing. In reality, various forms of legalism still tempt and deceive many people today. Adhering to a list of religious rules demands strong self-discipline and may make one appear wise and spiritual.
그러나 그런 사람들은 속 빈 강정이며 지혜의 모양만 가지고 보여줄 뿐입니다. 진정한 지혜는 오직 지혜의 근원이신 예수 그리스도 안에서 나오며 맛볼 수 있는 것입니다. 따라서 골로새 교회의 성도들이 취해야 할 태도는 이러한 유혹에 미혹되지 말고 모든 만물보다 먼저 나시고, 교회의 머리가 되시며 그 안에 충만이 거하시는 예수 그리스도를 붙들어야 하는 것입니다.
오늘 말씀은 오늘날의 교회에도 그대로 적용될 수 있는 말씀입니다. 전통적인 신앙 만으로는 안되며 무언가 성경 이외의 새로운 것, 그리스도만으로는 부족하기에 다른, 더 깊은 것을 좇고 원해서 나서는 사람들이 많은데 이는 대단히 위험하며 완전히 잘못된 것입니다.
시대가 변할수록 우리는 우리의 머리가 되시며 우리 삶의 모든 것 되시는 예수님을 붙들고 기본에 정말 충실해야 합니다. 왜냐하면 그 충실한 기본 안에 주님이 주시는 지혜와 지식의 모든 보화가 들어있기 때문입니다.
우리는 이미 승리한 자들입니다. 다시 패배자의 모습으로 살아가는 것이 아니라 또 겉모습만 지혜자인척 하는 자들이 아닌, 진정한 지혜와 지식을 알아가며 진정한 주인이신 예수 그리스도를 날마다 붙드시는 저와 여러분 되시기를 간절히 소망하며 기도합니다.
However, such individuals are like empty confections, showing the appearance of wisdom but lacking the taste. True wisdom comes only from Jesus Christ, who is the source of all wisdom and knowledge. Therefore, the saints in the Colossian church should not be deceived by such temptations but should cling to Jesus Christ, their true head, who fills them with all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Today's message is applicable to the modern church as well. Traditional faith alone is insufficient, and pursuing something new or deeper than Christ alone is dangerous and entirely misguided. As times change, we must cling to Jesus Christ, our head, and fill our lives with the basic, faithful foundation. Because within that faithful foundation, all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge given by the Lord are contained.
We are already victorious. Instead of living as defeated, we should not be deceived by false appearances of wisdom and instead, daily cling to Jesus Christ, our true Lord. I fervently hope and pray for this to be realized in the lives of all the believers who have gathered here.
