20:1 포도주는 거만하게 하는 것이요 독주는 떠들게 하는 것이라 이에 미혹되는 자마다 지혜가 없느니라
1 Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler;
whoever is led astray by them is not wise.
20:2 왕의 진노는 사자의 부르짖음 같으니 그를 노하게 하는 것은 자기의 생명을 해하는 것이니라
2 A king’s wrath strikes terror like the roar of a lion;
those who anger him forfeit their lives.
20:3 다툼을 멀리 하는 것이 사람에게 영광이거늘 미련한 자마다 다툼을 일으키느니라
3 It is to one’s honor to avoid strife,
but every fool is quick to quarrel.
20:4 게으른 자는 가을에 밭 갈지 아니하나니 그러므로 거둘 때에는 구걸할지라도 얻지 못하리라
4 Sluggards do not plow in season;
so at harvest time they look but find nothing.
20:5 사람의 마음에 있는 모략은 깊은 물 같으니라 그럴지라도 명철한 사람은 그것을 길어 내느니라

but one who has insight draws them out.
20:6 많은 사람이 각기 자기의 인자함을 자랑하나니 충성된 자를 누가 만날 수 있으랴
6 Many claim to have unfailing love,
but a faithful person who can find?
20:7 온전하게 행하는 자가 의인이라 그의 후손에게 복이 있느니라
7 The righteous lead blameless lives;
blessed are their children after them.
20:8 심판 자리에 앉은 왕은 그의 눈으로 모든 악을 흩어지게 하느니라

20:11 비록 아이라도 자기의 동작으로 자기 품행이 청결한 여부와 정직한 여부를 나타내느니라
11 Even small children are known by their actions,
so is their conduct really pure and upright?
20:12 듣는 귀와 보는 눈은 다 여호와께서 지으신 것이니라
12 Ears that hear and eyes that see—
the Lord has made them both.
20:13 너는 잠자기를 좋아하지 말라 네가 빈궁하게 될까 두려우니라 네 눈을 뜨라 그리하면 양식이 족하리라
13 Do not love sleep or you will grow poor;
stay awake and you will have food to spare.
20:14 물건을 사는 자가 좋지 못하다 좋지 못하다 하다가 돌아간 후에는 자랑하느니라

아무리 지혜로운 사람이라도 일단 술에 취하면 자신이 가지고 있는 지혜를 잃게 됩니다. 진정 지혜로운 자는 술에 취하도록 마시지 않습니다. 연말에 매우 필요한 말씀입니다.
권력자인 왕을 화나게 하는 것은 자살행위와 같습니다. 그런데 왕 중의 왕이신 하나님을 화나게 하는 어리석은 자들이 많이 있는 세상입니다. 지혜 있는 자는 결코 하나님을 화나게 하지 않습니다.
말씀이 연결됩니다. 어리석은 자는 술에 미혹되어 취하고, 분별력을 상실하여 권력자를 분노하게 하며, 동료들과 다툼을 일으킵니다. 기드온과 같이 상대방을 높이는 대화법을 배워야 합니다.

In a world with many foolish individuals who provoke the ultimate King, God, the wise refrain from causing offense to Him. The themes are interconnected – the foolish are led astray by intoxication, provoke wrath, and engage in quarrels. One must learn the art of uplifting conversations, as demonstrated by Gideon.
4 게으른 자는 가을에 밭 갈지 아니하나니 그러므로 거둘 때에는 구걸할지라도 얻지 못하리라
이스라엘은 가을에 이른 비가 내려 여름내 건조했던 땅을 적십니다. 그러면 그때 파종을 해야 겨울이 지나고, 봄에 늦은 비가 내린 후 열매를 거둡니다. 그런데 게으른 자 쌀쌀하다고 파종을 하지 않습니다.
그의 결국은 불을 보듯 뻔합니다.
4 Sluggards do not plow in season; so at harvest time they look but find nothing.
Israel experienced early rains in autumn that softened the dry soil. During this time, they needed to sow seeds for the winter and spring harvests. However, the lazy person refuses to sow when it is slightly uncomfortable. The inevitable result is seen as clearly as seeing fire – they will reap nothing.
5 사람의 마음에 있는 모략은 깊은 물 같으니라 그럴지라도 명철한 사람은 그것을 길어 내느니라
하나님의 형상대로 지음 받은 인간의 속에는 다른 사람들에게 충고해줄 수 있는 지혜로운 모략이 있습니다. 하지만 각자 안에 들어 있는 모략을 길어내어 사용하는 사람은 많지 않습니다.
하나님이 주신 그 깊은 지혜를 날마다 길어서 아름답게 사용할 수 있으면 좋겠습니다.
5 The purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters, but one who has insight draws them out.
Human beings, created in the image of God, possess wise counsel within themselves that can benefit others. However, few take the effort to draw out and utilize the deep wisdom given by God on a daily basis.
6 많은 사람이 각기 자기의 인자함을 자랑하나니 충성된 자를 누가 만날 수 있으랴
7온전하게 행하는 자가 의인이라 그의 후손에게 복이 있느니라
많은 사람들은 자신의 신실한 사랑(헤세드)을 자랑합니다. 하지만 그렇게 신실한 자를 만나기는 쉽지 않습니다. 많은 사람들이 자신은 신실하다고 말하지만, 누가 진실한 사람을 찾을 수 있을까요?
경건한 자가 세상에서 끊어졌고 정직한 자가 사람들 가운데 없도다(미 7:2)는 한탄이 나오는 시대입니다.
그러므로 예수를 믿는 자들은 온전하게 행하도록 노력해야 합니다. 그리고 그 온전함은 오직 예수 안에 거할 때 가능한 것입니다. 그러한 자의 후손은 복을 누리게 됩니다. 당연합니다.
경건하고 신실한 부모를 보고 자란 자녀들의 미래가 어찌 복되지 않겠습니까?
6 Many claim to have unfailing love, but a faithful person who can find?
7 The righteous lead blameless lives; blessed are their children after them.
Many boast of their faithful love (hesed). However, finding a truly faithful person is not easy. Many people tell themselves they are faithful, but who can find the truly faithful?
The faithful have been swept from the land; not one upright person remains. (Micah 7:2). Therefore, believers in Jesus must strive to walk in integrity. Such wholeness is achievable only when abiding in Jesus. The descendants of such individuals will undoubtedly experience blessings.
8 심판 자리에 앉은 왕은 그의 눈으로 모든 악을 흩어지게 하느니라
9 내가 내 마음을 정하게 하였다 내 죄를 깨끗하게 하였다 할 자가 누구냐
의로운 왕은 악을 물리칩니다. 그는 하나님의 대행자로 백성들의 원통함을 풀어주고 공의를 바로 세웁니다. 하지만 세상의 어떤 왕이나 정권도 완전하게 악을 물리치고, 공의를 이룬 경우는 없습니다.
심판 자리에 앉은 공의로운 왕은 오직 예수 그리스도 뿐입니다.
마찬가지로 개인의 의로운 문제를 해결할 수 있는 사람도 없습니다.
모든 사람은 죄인입니다. 이것은 죄의 보편성을 말합니다. 오직 예수님만이 우리 죄를 해결해 주십니다.
8 When a king sits on his throne to judge, he winnows out all evil with his eyes.
9 Who can say, “I have kept my heart pure; I am clean and without sin”?
A righteous king disperses evil with his discerning eyes. No earthly ruler completely eradicates evil and establishes justice. Only Jesus Christ, sitting on the throne of judgment, fulfills this role. Likewise, no individual can claim purity from sin. All are sinners, and only Jesus can cleanse us from our sins.
10 한결같지 않은 저울 추와 한결같지 않은 되는 다 여호와께서 미워하시느니라
11 비록 아이라도 자기의 동작으로 자기 품행이 청결한 여부와 정직한 여부를 나타내느니라
공의의 하나님은 속이는 저울추를 미워하십니다. 당시 상인들은 자신이 구입할 때는 가벼운 돌을 저울에 올리고, 팔 때는 무거운 돌을 올렸습니다. 두개의 다른 저울추를 가지고 있었던 것입니다.
하나님은 우리의 심장을 저울에 달아 보시는 분입니다. 그러니 속이는 돌(저울추)이 얼마나 가증스럽게 보이겠습니까? 사실은 속이는 그 사람의 심장을 가증스럽게 여기실 것입니다.
아이들도 자신의 마음 속 동기와 품행이 바른 지 그른 지를 동작으로 드러냅니다.
어릴 때부터 정직한 언행이 습관이 되도록 교육해야 합니다.
10 Differing weights and differing measures—the Lord detests them both.
11 Even small children are known by their actions, so is their conduct really pure and upright?
"The just God detests dishonest scales." In those times, merchants used a deceitful practice by placing a light stone on the scale when buying and a heavy one when selling, employing two different weights. God weighs our hearts on the scales, so how abhorrent would a deceitful stone (weight) appear? In reality, God finds the deceitful person's heart detestable. Even children reveal the righteousness or wickedness of their hearts through their actions. It is crucial to educate them from a young age so that honesty becomes a habit in their conduct.
12 듣는 귀와 보는 눈은 다 여호와께서 지으신 것이니라
그러므로 우리가 듣고 보고 말하는 것을 조심해야 합니다. 또한 하나님께서 우리의 모든 언행을 듣고 보고 계시다는 사실을 기억해야 합니다. 시편 기자는 귀를 지으신 이가 듣지 아니하시랴 눈을 만드신 이가 보지 아니하시랴(시 94:9) 노래했습니다.
12 Ears that hear and eyes that see—the Lord has made them both.
Therefore, we must be cautious in what we hear, see, and speak. Additionally, we should remember that God hears and sees all our actions. As the psalmist said, "Does he who fashioned the ear not hear? Does he who formed the eye not see?" (Psalm 94:9).
13 너는 잠자기를 좋아하지 말라 네가 빈궁하게 될까 두려우니라 네 눈을 뜨라 그리하면 양식이 족하리라
시편 기자는 여호와께서 그의 사랑하시는 자에게 잠을 주시는도다(시 127:2)라고 노래하지만, 이것이 일도 하지 않고 잠만 자는 것을 의미하는 것은 아닙니다. 열심히 일하는 것은 하나님의 뜻이며, 동시에 축복입니다. 그리고 그렇게 일한 자는 반드시 합당한 열매를 누리는 것이 하나님의 법칙입니다.
13 Do not love sleep or you will grow poor; stay awake and you will have food to spare.
In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat—for he grants sleep to[a] those he loves. (Psalm 127:2), it does not imply idleness or excessive sleep. Diligent work is God's will and a blessing. Those who work hard will undoubtedly reap appropriate rewards, as it is a law of God.
14 물건을 사는 자가 좋지 못하다 좋지 못하다 하다가 돌아간 후에는 자랑하느니라
인간의 이중성을 말합니다. 어떻게 든 더 저렴하게 구입하려고 흠을 잡지만, 막상 물건을 사고서는 와! 싸게 샀다고 좋아한다는 것입니다. 지금도 얼마든지 벌어지는 일들입니다.
우리는 일관성 있는 사람이 되어야 합니다. 하지만 이미 구입하거나 선택한 것에 대해서는 후회하지 말고 좋아하는 것도 삶의 깊은 지혜입니다. 지금 내가 가진 것, 내게 있는 것, 내 주변의 사람들에 대해서 만족하고 감사하고 자랑합시다. 당신, 처음엔 별로였는데, 지금은 너무 좋다!

This verse highlights human duplicity. People often criticize and find fault to negotiate a lower price, but once the purchase is made, they boast about getting a good deal. Such inconsistency is still prevalent today. We need to strive for consistency in our character. Yet, when it comes to things we have already bought or chosen, it's wise not to regret but to appreciate and enjoy them. Being content, grateful, and proud of what we have, our possessions, and the people around us is a profound wisdom in life. You, which may not have seemed much at first, are now truly wonderful!
