1 The proverbs of Solomon:
A wise son brings joy to his father,
but a foolish son brings grief to his mother.
10:2 불의의 재물은 무익하여도 공의는 죽음에서 건지느니라
2 Ill-gotten treasures have no lasting value,
but righteousness delivers from death.
10:3 여호와께서 의인의 영혼은 주리지 않게 하시나 악인의 소욕은 물리치시느니라
3 The Lord does not let the righteous go hungry,
but he thwarts the craving of the wicked.
10:4 손을 게으르게 놀리는 자는 가난하게 되고 손이 부지런한 자는 부하게 되느니라
4 Lazy hands make for poverty,
but diligent hands bring wealth.
10:5 여름에 거두는 자는 지혜로운 아들이나 추수 때에 자는 자는 부끄러움을 끼치는 아들이니라
5 He who gathers crops in summer is a prudent son,
but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son.
10:6 의인의 머리에는 복이 임하나 악인의 입은 독을 머금었느니라
6 Blessings crown the head of the righteous,
but violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked.
10:7 의인을 기념할 때에는 칭찬하거니와 악인의 이름은 썩게 되느니라
7 The name of the righteous is used in blessings,
but the name of the wicked will rot.
10:8 마음이 지혜로운 자는 계명을 받거니와 입이 미련한 자는 멸망하리라
8 The wise in heart accept commands,
but a chattering fool comes to ruin.
10:9 바른 길로 행하는 자는 걸음이 평안하려니와 굽은 길로 행하는 자는 드러나리라
9 Whoever walks in integrity walks securely,
but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out.
10:10 눈짓하는 자는 근심을 끼치고 입이 미련한 자는 멸망하느니라
10 Whoever winks maliciously causes grief,
and a chattering fool comes to ruin.
10:11 의인의 입은 생명의 샘이라도 악인의 입은 독을 머금었느니라
11 The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life,
but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.
10:12 미움은 다툼을 일으켜도 사랑은 모든 허물을 가리느니라
12 Hatred stirs up conflict,
but love covers over all wrongs.
10:13 명철한 자의 입술에는 지혜가 있어도 지혜 없는 자의 등을 위하여는 채찍이 있느니라
13 Wisdom is found on the lips of the discerning,
but a rod is for the back of one who has no sense.
10:14 지혜로운 자는 지식을 간직하거니와 미련한 자의 입은 멸망에 가까우니라
14 The wise store up knowledge,
but the mouth of a fool invites ruin.
10:15 부자의 재물은 그의 견고한 성이요 가난한 자의 궁핍은 그의 멸망이니라
15 The wealth of the rich is their fortified city,
but poverty is the ruin of the poor.
10:16 의인의 수고는 생명에 이르고 악인의 소득은 죄에 이르느니라
16 The wages of the righteous is life,
but the earnings of the wicked are sin and death.
우리가 어떤 물건을 조립하게 되면 설명서를 보게 됩니다. 그 설명서를 보면 처음에는 큰 목록을 설명하고 그 다음에는 자세한 조립 방법이 설명되어 있습니다. 어느 번호의 나사와 볼트를 어디에 넣어서 조여야 하는지 어느 방향으로 넣어야 하는지 자세히 설명해 줍니다.
오늘부터 시작하는 잠언은 설명서의 자세한 설명부분에 해당 됩니다. 그동안 잠언 1~9장이 '의로운 삶을 살아야 한다’는 열정어린 권면이라면, 오늘부터 시작되는 10장부터는 오랫동안 역사속에서 얻어진 지혜의 글들을 일정한 문맥없이 1장에서부터 9장의 가르침을 기준으로 배열한 것입니다.
예를들어 1장~9장은 읽는 이로 하여금 ‘지혜의 길, 의인의 길로 가야함’을 강하게 가르쳤다면, 10장부터는 객관적인 관찰을 통해 독자 스스로가 판단하도록 하게 합니다. 결국 1~9장이 잠언의 뿌리가 되어 10장부터는 실질적인 삶의 기술들을 가르쳐 주고 있는 것입니다. 또 10~15장의 중심 인물은 ‘의인’인데 의인은 곧 ‘지혜로운 사람’을 의미 합니다.
When we assemble something, we look at the manual. The manual usually begins with a list, followed by detailed assembly instructions. It specifies which screw and bolt to use, where to place them, and in what direction.
The Proverbs we begin today are akin to the detailed part of the manual. While Proverbs 1-9 passionately urges readers to lead a righteous life, chapters 10 onward arrange wisdom acquired over history, without a specific narrative, based on the teachings of chapters 1-9.
For instance, while chapters 1-9 strongly teach the reader to follow the path of wisdom and righteousness, from chapter 10, it allows the reader to judge for themselves through objective observation. Essentially, chapters 1-9 lay the foundation, and from chapter 10 onward, it teaches practical life skills. Also, the central figure of chapters 10-15 is the "righteous", which means "wise person".
그럼 1~9장을 통해 잠언이 가르치는 지혜의 핵심을 다시 한번 상기해 보도록 하겠습니다. 그것은 바로 잠언 1장 7절에 나온 “여호와를 경외하는 것이 지식의 근본이다”입니다. 그러나 하나님께서 우리에게 주신 이 지혜의 잠언서는 지혜의 한 부분이라는 것을 기억하시기 바랍니다. 잠언서를 묵상하다보면 ‘이 땅에서 의로운 길만 선택하면 항상 많은 축복을 받는’ 수학공식 같이 이루어져 있습니다. 이것은 하나님께서 우리에게 주시는 보편적인 삶의 가르침입니다.
하지만 정작 우리의 삶을 돌아보면 악인이 잘 살 때도 있고 의인이 고통받을 때도 있습니다. 그래서 우리는 잠언서와 전도서 그리고 욥기서를 항상 하나의 큰 그림으로서 지혜서를 이해할 필요가 있습니다. 잠언은 이 땅에서 축복을 더 받기 위해 읽는 책이 아니라는 것입니다.
하나님의 뜻대로 살기 위해서 주신 책이라는 것을 기억하시기 바랍니다. 그래서 내 마음의 중심이 잠언을 읽을 때는 이 땅에서 더 많은 것을 얻기 위한 목적이 아니라, 이미 예수님께서 주신 자녀의 권세 즉 구원 받음으로 인해 새롭게 태어난 자녀로서의 삶을 그분의 뜻대로 살기위해서 묵상해야 하는 것입니다.
오늘 본문은 세가지 가르침으로 나눌 수 있습니다. 첫번째는 지혜와 재물의 관계에 대해 말하고 있으며, 두번째는 말에 의한 언어의 지혜에 대해 말하고, 세번째는 다시 재물과 삶에 대해 말하고 있습니다. 그럼 오늘 본문을 통해 나는 하나님을 경외함으로 나의 재물을 어떻게 사용하고 있는지 그리고 그분의 자녀로서 나의 언어적 태도가 어떠한지를 실제적으로 돌아보는 시간이 되시기를 바랍니다.
10장부터 드러나는 대부분의 가르침은 반이 평행법이라 해서 두가지의 상반된 길을 보여 줌으로 우리들로 하여금 하나를 선택하게 합니다.
Let's recall the core wisdom taught by Proverbs through chapters 1-9. It's found in Proverbs 1:7 – "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge". But remember, this book of Proverbs is just a part of that wisdom. Meditating on Proverbs might make it seem like a mathematical formula where choosing the righteous path always results in abundant blessings. This is a universal life lesson given by God.
However, if we look at our lives, sometimes the wicked prosper while the righteous suffer. Thus, it's essential to understand the wisdom literature, including Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Job, as one big picture. Proverbs is not a book to read for earthly blessings.
Remember, it's a book given by God to live according to His will. So, when reading Proverbs, the focus should not be on acquiring more in this world, but to meditate on living life according to God's will as a renewed child of God, bestowed upon by the grace of salvation through Jesus.
Today's text can be divided into three teachings. First, it speaks about the relationship between wisdom and wealth. Second, it addresses the wisdom of speech. Third, it revisits the topic of wealth and life. Through today's text, I hope you reflect on how you utilize your wealth in the fear of God and assess your linguistic attitude as God's child.
Most teachings from chapter 10 are shown in a form called "parallelism," presenting two contrasting paths, prompting us to choose one.
첫번째는 지혜와 재물에 대해 말하고 있습니다.
2절을 함께 읽어 보도록 하겠습니다. “불의의 재물은 무익하여도 공의는 죽음에서 건지느니라” 아멘. 불의한 재물은 불법적이고 불공정하며 올바르지 못한 방식으로 축적한 재산을 의미 합니다. 그런데 세상은 이러한 불의한 재물을 사모 합니다. 그것이 불의하든 불의하지 않든지 상관없이 재물을 모으는 것에 혈안이 되어 있습니다. 그리고 그런 것이 지혜롭다라고 이야기 합니다.
하지만 성경은 우리에게 분명히 말씀하고 있습니다. 불의한 재물은 무익하다. 그리스도인에게 전혀 도움이 되지 않는다라고 분명하게 말합니다. 반면 ‘공의는 죽음에서 건지다’라고 합니다. 이 부분을 메세지 성경은 이렇게 표현하고 있습니다.
정직한 삶은 영원히 남는다. 즉 성실하게 일을 하며 재물을 취득하고 이를 공동체의 유익을 위해서 사용하는 의로움을 의미하고 있습니다. 이러한 의는 하나님 앞에서 인정을 받아서 우리로 하여금 생명의 길로 나아가게 한다고 말합니다.
다시말해, 재물은 인간의 가장 절실한 문제, 바로 죽음의 문제를 해결 할 수 없다는 것입니다. 그렇기 때문에 이렇게 불의한 일을 통해서 얻은 재물은 우리에게 아무런 유익이 되지 않고, 오히려 하나님의 뜻에 따라 모은 재물이 우리에게 생명을 준다고 말하고 있습니다.
First, it talks about wisdom and wealth.
Let's read verse 2 together. "Treasures of wickedness profit nothing, but righteousness delivers from death." Amen. Ill-gotten wealth refers to wealth accumulated unlawfully, unjustly, and unrighteously. Yet, the world covets such wealth, with a sole focus on accumulating riches, regardless of their origin, considering it wise.
But the Bible clearly tells us. Ill-gotten wealth is of no use. It doesn't benefit a Christian at all. On the other hand, it says "righteousness delivers from death". This part in the Message Bible is expressed as:
A life of honesty endures forever. In other words, it means righteousness earned by working diligently, acquiring wealth, and using it for the benefit of the community. Such righteousness is recognized by God and leads us on the path of life.
To reiterate, wealth cannot solve humanity's most pressing issue, which is death. Hence, wealth obtained through wicked ways is not beneficial to us. In contrast, wealth accumulated according to God's will gives us life.
4절의 말씀을 같이 읽어 보겠습니다. “손을 게으르게 놀리는 자는 가난하게 되고 손이 부지런한 자는 부하게 되느니라” 아멘. 헛된 재물을 탐하지 말고 하나님이 허락하신 삶의 자리에서 성실하게 살아가라고 이야기하고 있는 것입니다. 이렇게 성실하게 살아갈 때 우리는 우리의 일에 대한 열매를 얻을 수 있게 되는 것입니다. 그렇게 살아가는 자들에게 성경은 이렇게 약속하고 있습니다.
3절입니다. “여호와께서 의인의 영혼은 주리지 않게 하시나 악인의 소욕은 물리치시느니라” 또 16절에 이렇게 말합니다. “의인의 수고는 생명에 이르고 악인의 소득은 죄에 이르느니라” 아멘. 따라서 사망에 이르는 미련한 자의 헛된 욕심을 우리는 버려야 합니다. 재물을 쫓는 삶이 아니라 재물을 다스리는 삶을 살아가야하는 것입니다. ‘재물에 우리의 초점이 맞춰지는 삶이 아니라, 하나님만 바라보는 삶을 살아갈 때 재물이 모일 수 있고 이러한 재물이 우리에게 유익하다’라고 성경은 말하고 있습니다.
우리는 하나님을 쫓는 자입니까? 아니면 재물을 쫓는 자입니까? 성도 여러분, 재물만을 쫓아가지 마시기 바랍니다. 재물은 우리에게 아무런 영향력을 줄 수 없습니다. 하나님의 말씀을 쫓아 걸어가게 되면 재물은 부수적으로 당연히 따라오게 되는 줄 믿습니다. 하나님께서 약속하고 계십니다. 하나님의 말씀을 쫓아서 살아가는 자들은 결코 줄이게 하지 않겠다고 말씀하십니다.
이 시간 여기에 모인 모든 성도님들께서 의인을 찾고, 지혜를 간절히 찾아 영혼이 주리지 않는 생명이 넘치는 삶이 되시기를 소망합니다.
Today, we will read the fourth verse together: "A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich." Amen. This verse tells us not to covet vain wealth but to live diligently in the position that God has allowed us. When we live such a diligent life, we can reap the fruits of our labor. The Bible promises those who live this way.
Verse 3 states, “The LORD will not allow the righteous soul to famish, but He casts away the desire of the wicked.” And verse 16 adds, "The labor of the righteous leads to life, the wages of the wicked to sin." Amen. Thus, we must abandon the foolish desires that lead to death. We should not pursue wealth, but rather steward it. The Bible tells us that when we live looking only to God, wealth accumulates, and this wealth is beneficial to us.
Are we pursuing God or wealth? Believers, do not merely chase after wealth. Wealth cannot give us any real influence. If we walk chasing after God's word, I believe that wealth will naturally follow. God promises this. Those who live by God's word will never be diminished.
I hope that every believer gathered here today seeks righteousness and earnestly seeks wisdom so that they may have an overflowing life where their souls are not hungry.
두번째는 말로인한 언어의 지혜를 말하고 있습니다.
6~14절입니다. 첫번째 부분 6~9절은 의인과 악인을 다시 한번 강조 합니다. 의인에게는 첫번째, 머리에 복이 임한다고 말합니다. 두번째는 의인의 이름을 기억할 때 칭찬이 있을 것이다라고 말하고 있습니다. 하지만 악인의 입에는 독이 있고 그 이름은 썩게 되리라고 성경은 표현합니다.
결국 의인은 그의 삶에 하나님의 축복을 볼 수 있고 또한 많은 사람들에게 덕을 끼치므로 칭찬을 받는 자이지만, 악인의 입에는 독이 있다 말하며 그 악한 입으로 주변 사람들이 상처를 받고 어려워 할 것이라 말합니다.
더 나아가 악인의 이름은 썩은 냄새를 기억할 정도로 그의 이름이 썩게 되었다고 표현을 하고 있습니다. 우리가 죽은 후에 주변 사람들은 우리들을 어떻게 평가 할까요? 그리고 더 나아가 하나님은 우리를 어떻게 판단 하실까요?
우리는 예수님을 믿고 의인이라 여겨지는 것에만 만족하며 머물러 있으면 안됩니다. 의인으로 여겨주신 그 은혜의 목적을 기억하셔야 합니다. 우리는 예수님을 닮아가기 위해 구원 받았음을 잊지 말아야 합니다. 이 말 뜻은 내가 예수님을 믿고나서 나는 예수님의 모습처럼 닮아가고 있는지를 점검해 보셔야 한다는 것입니다.
The second point is about the wisdom of language from verses 6 to 14. The first part, verses 6 to 9, emphasizes the righteous and the wicked again. To the righteous, first, it says blessings come upon their heads. Second, when remembering the name of the righteous, there will be praise. However, the wicked have poison in their mouths, and their names will rot, as described in the scriptures.
Ultimately, the righteous will see God's blessings in their lives and receive praise for their good deeds. In contrast, the wicked's mouth contains poison, causing pain to those around them.
The scriptures describe that the wicked's name becomes so rotten that people remember them with disgust. After we pass away, how will people remember us? More importantly, how will God judge us?
We should not be satisfied with merely being considered righteous because we believe in Jesus. We must remember the purpose of the grace that regards us as righteous. We must not forget that we have been saved to become like Jesus. This means we must check whether we are growing to resemble Jesus after believing in Him.
다음 10~14절은 다시 의인과 악인을 비교하며 다른 사람들과의 관계를 설명합니다. 우선 10절에 악인의 모습은 눈짓을 하는자 즉 ‘속이는 자’라고 말합니다. 이런 자들은 다른 사람들과의 관계 속에서 근심을 끼친다고 합니다. 그리고 이미 ‘미련한 자’ 즉 악을 말하는 자들은 멸망을 받을 것이라고 성경은 말합니다.
하지만 11절에 의인의 입은 ‘생명의 샘’이라고 말합니다. 의는 복음을 품은 자이기 때문에 남을 용서하고 복음으로 생명을 전달하는 자들로서 ‘생명의 샘’이라 표현합니다. 그리고 악인을 ‘입에 독이 있는 자’라고 말하면서, 그로 인해 주변 사람들이 위험해 짐을 경고합니다. 악인들은 다툼을 일으키지만, 의인의 말은 사랑으로 모든 허물을 덮어줍니다. 그리고 13절과 14절에 명철한 자에게는 지혜가 있고 미련한 자에게는 형벌과 멸망이 있을 것을 경고하고 있습니다.
Verses 10 to 14 contrast the righteous and the wicked again, explaining their relationships with others. Verse 10 describes the wicked as deceivers. They cause trouble in their relationships. But the righteous are described as a "fountain of life" in verse 11. The wicked are warned that their mouths bring danger, causing strife, while the righteous' words cover all offenses with love. Verses 13 and 14 warn of wisdom for the prudent and punishment and ruin for the foolish.
A wise person once said, "Because of language, humans are superior to animals. But if one doesn't use language properly, the animal is better." Proverbs 18:20 says, "A man's stomach shall be satisfied from the fruit of his mouth; from the produce of his lips he shall be filled." Amen.
어떤 현자가 이러한 말을 했습니다. “언어가 있기에 사람은 짐승보다 낫다. 그러나 바르게 언어를 사용하지 않으면 짐승이 그대보다 나을 것이다” 잠언 18장 20절 “사람은 입에서 나오는 열매로 말미암아 배부르게 되나니 곧 그의 입술에서 나는 것으로 말미암아 만족하게 되느니라” 아멘.
우리가 뱉는 말들이 우리의 삶을 채운다라고 말하고 있습니다. 우리가 선포한 그 말로 인해서 우리의 인생이 달라진다고 이야기 합니다. 나의 마음에 어떠한 것을 품고 있던지 마음에 품고 있는 것이 언어로 나오게 되는 것입니다. 내 마음에 독을 품으면 나뿐만 아니라 나로 인해 주변 사람들이 고통을 받게 됩니다.
하지만 우리가 복음을 품고 살면 우리들의 말은 생명샘이 되어서 사람들을 살리는데, 하나님으로부터 쓰임받는 사람이 될 것입니다. 이렇듯 그리스도인에게 있어서 말은 매우 중요합니다. 여러분은 지금 어떠한 말을 사용하고 계신가요? 어떠한 말을 선포하며 살아가고 계십니까? 모든 성도님들의 언어를 통해 생명의 샘이 날마다 솟아나기를 간절히 소망합니다.
The words we speak shape our lives. Our life changes based on the words we proclaim. Whatever is in our hearts will come out in our words. If we harbor poison in our hearts, it will not only harm us but also those around us.
However, if we carry the Gospel in our hearts, our words become a fountain of life, and we become instruments used by God to bring life. Thus, language is crucial for Christians. What kind of language are you using now? What words do you proclaim? I earnestly hope that a fountain of life springs forth from every believer's language every day.
마지막 부분인 15~16절에서 재물과 삶에 대해 말하고 있습니다.
의인들의 재물 즉 부자의 재물은 견고한 성이 된다라고 말씀합니다. 그리고 미련한 자 즉 남의 것을 탐하는 자, 게으른 자들은 궁핍하게 될 것이라고 말합니다. 그리고 의인의 수고 즉 그들의 재물은 생명이 있고 악인의 재물은 죄가 있다고 말씀 합니다.
오늘 본문은 우리의 재물 그리고 우리들의 언어, 말에 대한 가르침을 주었습니다. 재물이나 우리의 말은 결국 우리가 사용하는 도구들 입니다. 우리가 독을 품으면 우리의 물질과 언어들로 인해 다른 사람을 해하게 될 것이고, 우리가 하나님과 복음을 마음에 품으면 우리의 재물과 말로 인하여 하나님의 생명을 많은 사람들에게 전달하게 될 줄 믿습니다.
오늘 하루 그리스도의 좋은 소식, 그 복음을 마음에 품고, 여러분들의 물질과 언어로 주변 사람들과 특별히 여러분의 가정이 생명으로 새로워지는 복된 하루가 되시기를 축복합니다.
The last section, verses 15 to 16, speaks about wealth and life. The wealth of the righteous is described as a strong fortress. The foolish, those who covet others' things or are lazy, will face poverty. The labor of the righteous leads to life, but the wealth of the wicked leads to sin.
Today's scripture teaches us about our wealth and our language. Both our possessions and our words are tools we use. If we harbor poison, our material goods and words will harm others. But if we keep God and the Gospel in our hearts, we can use our wealth and words to bring God's life to many.
