5:1 그러므로 사랑을 받은 자녀같이 너희는 하나님을 본받는 자가 되고
1 Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children
5:2 그리스도께서 너희를 사랑하신 것 같이 너희도 사랑 가운데서 행하라 그는 우리를 위하여 자신을 버리사 향기로운 제물과 희생제물로 하나님께 드리셨느니라
2 and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
5:3 음행과 온갖 더러운 것과 탐욕은 너희 중에서 그 이름조차도 부르지 말라 이는 성도에게 마땅한 바니라
3 But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.
5:4 누추함과 어리석은 말이나 희롱의 말이 마땅치 아니하니 오히려 감사하는 말을 하라
4 Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.
5:5 너희도 정녕 이것을 알거니와 음행하는 자나 더러운 자나 탐하는 자 곧 우상 숭배자는 다 그리스도와 하나님 나라에서 기업을 얻지 못하리니
5 For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
5:6 누구든지 헛된 말로 너희를 속이지 못하게 하라 이로 말미암아 하나님의 진노가 불순종의 아들들에게 임하나니
6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient.
5:7 그러므로 그들과 함께 하는 자가 되지 말라
7 Therefore do not be partners with them.
5:8 너희가 전에는 어둠이더니 이제는 주 안에서 빛이라 빛의 자녀들처럼 행하라
8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light
5:9 빛의 열매는 모든 착함과 의로움과 진실함에 있느니라
9 (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth)
5:10 주께 기쁘시게 할 것이 무엇인가 시험하여 보라
10 and find out what pleases the Lord.
5:11 너희는 열매 없는 어둠의 일에 참여하지 말고 도리어 책망하라
11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.
5:12 그들의 은밀히 행하는 것들은 말하기도 부끄러운 것들이라
12 It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.
5:13 그러나 책망을 받는 모든 것은 빛으로 말미암아 드러나나니 드러나는 것마다 빛이니라
13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light.
5:14 그러므로 이르시기를 잠자는 자여 깨어서 죽은 자들 가운데서 일어나라 그리스도께서 너에게 비추이시리라 하셨느니라
14 This is why it is said:
“Wake up, sleeper,
rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”
기독교인으로서 우리는 항상 어두움에 둘러싸여 있습니다. 다음 세대의 학교들을 보면 어두움이 참 많습니다. 인스타그램이나 틱톡 같은 SNS을 봐도 어두움이 너무 많습니다. 그리고 팔레스타인이나 우크라이나에서 일어나는 싸움을 보면 수천 명의 사람들이 죽고 있습니다.
Music Industry에서는 세속적인 가수들이 성, 마약, 알코올에 대해 노래합니다. 매주 빌보드 탑 100 음악이 업데이트됩니다. Taylor Swift, Drake, Bad Bunny, Miley Cyrus와 같은 음악가들이 그 탑 100에 있습니다. Drake의 한 노래는 #7에 있습니다. 그 노래의 제목은 IDGAF입니다. 그리고 시작하는 가사는 다음과 같습니다: "영원히 어둠 속에서 여행한다. 어둠에서 흑암으로. 거기에서 돌아온다. 항상 흑암이다. 하늘을 가로 질러서 울렸다. 누워서 할 일이 없다." 이 노래는 어둠 속에 있는 사람에 대한 것입니다. 그러나 그는 나는 다른 사람들이 무엇을 생각하는지 신경 쓰지 않는다고 계속 말합니다. 다른 사람들이 무엇을 말하는지 신경 쓰지 않는다. 나는 어둠 속에 있을 것이다.
As Christians, we are always surrounded by darkness. When we look at the schools of the next generation, there is so much darkness. When we look at social media like Instagram and TikTok, there is so much darkness. When we just see what’s going on in the world, like the fighting that is happening in Palestine or Ukraine, thousands and thousands of people are dying.
In the music industry, worldly singers are singing about sex, drugs, and alcohol. Every week, the billboard top 100 of music gets updated. And musicians like Taylor Swift, Drake, Bad Bunny, Miley Cyrus are on that top 100. One song from Drake is #7. The song’s title is IDGAF. And the beginning lyrics are as follows: “Traveling forever in the dark. Darkness into blackness. There and back. It’s always black. It screeched across the sky. Nothing to do but lie.” This song is about a person being in the dark. But he goes on to say I don’t care what others think. I don’t care what others say. I’m going to stay in the dark.
그러나 요즘 사람들은 가사에 정말로 주의를 기울이지 않습니다. 그들은 음악의 리듬과 흐름에만 주의를 기울입니다. 그러나 무의식적으로, 그들은 가사를 듣고 그런 생활 방식을 받아들일 것입니다. 음악은 악용될 경우 매우 위험한 무기가 될 수 있습니다.
K-팝도 마찬가지입니다. K-팝은 2012년 PSY의 강남 스타일로 인기를 얻기 시작했습니다. 당시 PSY는 일루미나티와 영관이 있었다고 하고 사단도 숭배한다고 했습니다. 그러므로, 우리는 선과 악 또는 빛과 어둠을 구별할 수 있어야 합니다.
오늘의 성경 구절을 통해, 바울은 우리가 어떻게 빛 속에서 살고 하나님의 나라를 상속해야 하는지 설명합니다.
But people these days don’t really pay attention to the lyrics. They just pay attention to the rhythm and the flow of the music. However, subconsciously, they will listen to the lyrics and adapt that kind of lifestyle. Music is a very dangerous weapon if it is used for evil.
K-Pop also is the same way. K-Pop started becoming popular in 2012 with PSY’s Gangnam Style. Back then PSY was accused of being part of the illuminati and worshipping Satan. So, we need to be able to distinguish between good and evil or light and darkness.
Through today’s scriptures, Paul describes how we need to live in the light and inherit the Kingdom of God.
하나님의 예를 따르라 (V.1-2)
1절에서, 바울은 우리가 빛 속에서 어떻게 살아야 하는지 요약합니다. 우리는 하나님의 예를 따라 사랑의 길로 걸어야 된다고 합니다. 우리는 하나님을 생각하거나, 하나님을 감탄하거나, 하나님을 사랑해야 한다고 말하진 않습니다. 바울은 우리가 하나님을 따라야 한다고 말합니다. 우리는 하나님을 우리의 본보기와 롤모델로 삼아야 합니다. 그리고 바울은 소중하게 사랑 받는 아이들처럼 하나님의 예를 따르라고 말합니다. 아이들은 태생적으로 모방하는 경향이 있습니다. 아이들은 자연스럽게 부모의 행동 방식을 따릅니다.
제 딸 예은이가 식사를 할 때마다, 항상 한 입을 남깁니다. 배가 부르다고 말합니다. 그러나 후식을 먹을 배는 또 따로 있다고 합니다. 하루는 왜 이럴까 곰곰이 생각해봤는데, 제 와이프도 그렇게 했던 것을 깨달았습니다. 요즘엔 않그런데 제 와이프도 항상 한 입을 남겼던 적이 있습니다. 또는 제가 예은이를 부를 때, "예은아~"라고 말하면, 제 아들 예준이도 따라서 똑같이 부릅니다. 그리고 제가 성경을 읽을 때는 예준이도 제 옆에 와서 책을 꺼꾸로 뒤집어서 읽는 시늉을 합니다.
그래서 부모님과 할머니, 아이들과 손주들 앞에서 어떻게 행동하는지 조심하십시오. 우리가 아이들을 위한 본보기가 되어야 하는 이유입니다. 우리가 아침마다 아이들 앞에서 QT를 하는 습관을 들이면, 그들은 자연스럽게 QT를 하고 싶어할 것입니다. 만약 우리가 집에서 예배를 시작하면, 우리의 아이들도 그렇게 할 것입니다.
이런 방식으로, 우리도 하나님의 아이들이라는 것을 기억해야 합니다. 아멘! 우리는 예수 그리스도가 우리에게 보여 준 최고의 사랑의 형태를 따라야 합니다.
Follow God’s examples (V.1-2)
In Verse 1, Paul summarizes how we need to live in the light. We need to follow God’s examples and walk in the way of love. It doesn’t say we need to think about God, admire God, or love God. Paul says we need to follow God. We are to make God our example and our role model. And Paul said Follow God’s example as dearly loved children. Children are natural imitators. Children will naturally follow the way their parents act.
Whenever my daughter Skyler eats a meal, she always leaves one bite uneaten. She says she’s full. But then she has room for dessert. I wondered why she does this and then I realized that my wife used to do the same thing. She always left one bite uneaten. Or when I call for Skyler, I say “Ye eun ah~” in Korean and then my younger son Jayden will follow along after me. So parents and grandparents, please watch how you act in front of your children and grandchildren. This is why it is so important for us as parents to be examples for our children. If we get into the habit of doing our QTs every morning in front of them, they will naturally want to do their QTs. If we start worshipping at our homes, then our children will do the same.
In this way, we also need to remember that we are children of God. Amen! We should follow God just as Jesus Christ has showed us the ultimate form of love.
어둠 속의 생활 (V. 3-7)
바울은 3절에서 성적 부도덕, 모든 종류의 더러움, 또는 탐욕의 조짐조차 없어야 한다고 말합니다. 이것들은 하나님의 거룩한 백성들에게는 부적절하기 때문입니다. 바울은 에베소 사람들에게 이러한 것들을 그냥 피하라고 권하지 않았습니다. 바울은 하나님의 자녀이기 때문에 이러한 것들을 피해야 한다고 말했습니다.
바울은 또한 음란, 어리석은 말, 그리고 거친 농담도 포함했습니다. 이것들도 성적 죄와 관련이 있기 때문입니다. 그리고 바울은 우리에게 이러한 종류의 죄를 피하고 오히려 입을 통해 하나님께 감사를 드려야 한다고 말했습니다.
만약 어떤 사람이 이렇게 부도덕하다면, 만약 어떤 사람이 더럽거나 탐욕스럽다면, 그 사람은 우상 숭배자이며 하나님의 나라에서 기업을 얻지 못한다고 할합니다. 물론, 우리는 인간이기 때문에 때때로 죄에 빠질 수 있습니다. 다행히도, 예수님은 우리를 용서해 주십니다. 그러나 만약 어떠한 지속적인 죄의 함정에 빠졌다면, 영적인 생활을 재검토해야 합니다. 만약 지금 넘어진 상태이거나 죄에 빠지셨다면, 하나님의 은혜를 통해 회개하시고, 다시 일어나셔서, 다시 하나님을 향해 달려갈 수 있기를 바랍니다.
Living in the dark (V. 3-7)
Paul says in verse 3, that there must bit be even a hint of sexual immorality, or any kind of impurity, or of greed because these are improper for God’s holy people. Paul didn’t tell the people of Ephesus to avoid these things because they are God’s children. Paul said that since you are God’s children, you need to avoid these things.
Paul also included obscenity, foolish talk, and coarse joking because these also relate to sexual sin as well. And Paul told us to stay away from this type of sin but rather use our mouths to show thanksgiving to God.
If a person is immoral like this, if a person is impure or greedy, that person is an idol worshipper and will not inherit the Kingdom of God. Of course, we are human, and we will sometimes fall into sin. Thankfully, Jesus can forgive you. However, if you fall into this persistent trap of sin, you need to reexamine your spiritual life. If you have fallen down, I hope that through the grace of God, you will be able to repent, get back up, and run for God again.
어둠에서 빛으로 (V.8-14)
우리 모두가 한때 어둠 속에 있었지만, 지금은 빛 속에 있습니다! 그래서 바울은 빛의 아이들로서 살라고 말합니다. 그리고 빛의 아이들로서 살아가는 것은 무엇을 의미하는가요? 오늘의 성경에서는 선, 의, 진리라고 말하고 있지만, 갈라디아서 5:22-23에서는 영의 열매의 전체 목록을 가지고 있습니다.
사랑과 희락과 화평과 오래 참음과 자비와 양선과 충성과 온유와 절제
우리 모두는 성령의 열매를 알고 있습니다. 우리는 어렸을 때부터 그것들에 대해 들어왔습니다. 주일 학교에서는 성령의 열매에 관한 노래도 부르기도 했습니다. 그러나 중요한 것은 우리가 실제로 성령의 열매를 살아가는가입니다. 아니면 우리는 여전히 탐욕스럽고 더럽습니까? 만약 우리가 탐욕스럽거나 더럽다면, 바울은 5절에서 그 사람은 우상 숭배자라고 적었습니다. 우상 숭배자는 집에 어떠한 소의 금상을 가지고 있는 것만이 아닙니다. 만약 하나님 외에 다른 것이 여러분의 우선 순위 목록에 있다면, 우상 숭배자입니다. 돈이 하나님보다 더 중요합니까? 그럼 돈이 여러분의 우상입니다. 자녀들이 하나님보다 더 중요합니까? 그럼 자녀들이 우상이 되는 것입니다. 편안함이 하나님보다 더 중요합니까? 그럼 편안함이 우리의 우상이 되는 것입니다..
13절에서 바울은 "그러나 책망을 받는 모든 것은 빛으로 말미암아 드러나나니 드러나는 것마다 빛이니라 "라고 말했습니다.
저는 여러분이 진짜로 어둠 속에 살고 있는지, 빛 속에 살고 있는지 모릅니다. 오직 하나님만이 압니다. 하나님의 빛은 여러분에게 비출 것이며, 만약에 짖는 죄가 있으면 그 죄는 빛에 의해 드러나게 될 것입니다. 그래서 이 새벽에, 우리는 다시 한번 하나님께 재헌신하고 완전히 빛으로 돌아가시기를 바랍니다.
From darkness to light (V.8-14)
Although we were all at darkness once upon a time, we are now in light! So, Paul says to live as children of light. And what does living as children of light mean? In today’s scirptures it says goodness, righteousness, and truth but in Galatians 5:22-23, we have the full list of the fruit of the spirit.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
We all know the fruits of the spirit. We have heard about them ever since we were little. In Sunday school, I remember even singing a song about the fruits of the spirit. But the important thing is do we actually live out the fruit of the spirit? Or are we still greedy and impure? If we are greedy or impure, Paul in verse 5 wrote that, that person is an idolater. An idol worshipper is not just having some gold statue of a cow in your house. You are an idol worshipper if something else other than God is on your priority list. Is money more important than God? Then money is your idol. Are your children more important than God? Then your children are your idol. Is your own comfort more important than God? Then your comfort is your idol.
In verse 13, Paul said “But everything exposed by the light becomes visible-and everything that is illuminated becomes a light.”
I don’t know whether you truly live in darkness or light. Only God knows. However, God’s light is going to shine on you and one that that sin will be exposed by the light. So this early morning, let us once again commit our lives to God and turn completely to the light.

그래서 우리가 빛 속에 있다고 생각할지라도, 우리 중 일부는 실제로는 어둠 속에 있을 수 있습니다. 오직 하나님과 기도를 통해서만, 우리는 다시 빛으로 돌아갈 수 있는 줄 믿습니다. 오늘 기도하실 때, 다시 우리의 우선 순위를 바로잡읍시다. 우리는 모든 우상들을 내려놓고 오직 예수 그리스도와 그의 의를 추구하실 수 있기를 바랍니다.
And Paul tell us in verse 14 to what? To wake up, to rise from the dead.
Spurgeon said the following: “This sleepiness in the Christian is exceedingly dangerous, too, because he can do a great deal while he is asleep that will make him look as if he were quite awake. We can speak when we are asleep. We can hear when we are asleep. We can walk when we are asleep. We can sing when we are asleep. We can think when we are asleep.”
We can seem awake by coming to church. We can seem awake by coming on this early morning. I’m not saying you are all actually sleeping. But I’m just saying we can sometimes be focused on just deeds. We can seem awake by serving in the church.
So although we might think we are in the light, some of us may actually be in the dark. Only through God and prayer, can we go back to the light. This morning, let us set our priorities straight again. Let us be able to lay down all of the idols and only pursue after Jesus Christ and His righteousness.
