1:1 옛적에 선지자들을 통하여 여러 부분과 여러 모양으로 우리 조상들에게 말씀하신 하나님이
1 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways,
1:2 이 모든 날 마지막에는 아들을 통하여 우리에게 말씀하셨으니 이 아들을 만유의 상속자로 세우시고 또 그로 말미암아 모든 세계를 지으셨느니라
2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.
1:3 이는 하나님의 영광의 광채시요 그 본체의 형상이시라 그의 능력의 말씀으로 만물을 붙드시며 죄를 정결하게 하는 일을 하시고 높은 곳에 계신 지극히 크신 이의 우편에 앉으셨느니라
3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
1:4 그가 천사보다 훨씬 뛰어남은 그들보다 더욱 아름다운 이름을 기업으로 얻으심이니
4 So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.
1:5 하나님께서 어느 때에 천사 중 누구에게 너는 내 아들이라 오늘 내가 너를 낳았다 하셨으며 또 다시 나는 그에게 아버지가 되고 그는 내게 아들이 되리라 하셨느냐
5 For to which of the angels did God ever say,
“You are my Son;
today I have become your Father”?
Or again,
“I will be his Father,
and he will be my Son”?
1:6 또 그가 맏아들을 이끌어 세상에 다시 들어오게 하실 때에 하나님의 모든 천사들은 그에게 경배할지어다 말씀하시며
6 And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says,
“Let all God’s angels worship him.”
1:7 또 천사들에 관하여는 그는 그의 천사들을 바람으로, 그의 사역자들을 불꽃으로 삼으시느니라 하셨으되
7 In speaking of the angels he says,
“He makes his angels spirits,
and his servants flames of fire.”
1:8 아들에 관하여는 하나님이여 주의 보좌는 영영하며 주의 나라의 규는 공평한 규이니이다
8 But about the Son he says,
“Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever;
a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.
1:9 주께서 의를 사랑하시고 불법을 미워하셨으니 그러므로 하나님 곧 주의 하나님이 즐거움의 기름을 주께 부어 주를 동류들보다 뛰어나게 하셨도다 하였고
9 You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions
by anointing you with the oil of joy.”
1:10 또 주여 태초에 주께서 땅의 기초를 두셨으며 하늘도 주의 손으로 지으신 바라
10 He also says,
“In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth,
and the heavens are the work of your hands.
1:11 그것들은 멸망할 것이나 오직 주는 영존할 것이요 그것들은 다 옷과 같이 낡아지리니
11 They will perish, but you remain;
they will all wear out like a garment.
1:12 의복처럼 갈아입을 것이요 그것들은 옷과 같이 변할 것이나 주는 여전하여 연대가 다함이 없으리라 하였으나
12 You will roll them up like a robe;
like a garment they will be changed.
But you remain the same,
and your years will never end.”
1:13 어느 때에 천사 중 누구에게 내가 네 원수로 네 발등상이 되게 하기까지 너는 내 우편에 앉아 있으라 하셨느냐
13 To which of the angels did God ever say,
“Sit at my right hand
until I make your enemies
a footstool for your feet”?
1:14 모든 천사들은 섬기는 영으로서 구원 받을 상속자들을 위하여 섬기라고 보내심이 아니냐
14 Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?
이번 달에는 히브리서 책을 살펴보게 될 것입니다. 개인적으로 이 서신은 제 믿음을 굳건하게 하도록 도와 주기도 하고 격려도 많이 받은 그런 말씀입니다. 이 책을 통해 우리 모두가 그리스도인으로써 격려 받기를 바랍니다.
This month, we will be looking at the book of Hebrews. On a personal note, this book has encouraged me to stand firm in my faith. And I hope that it will encourage all of you while we are in this book.
히브리서의 저자에 대해서는 몇가지 의문이 있습니다. 정확한 저자를 확인할 수 없는데, 저자 자신이 자신을 밝히지 않았기 때문입니다. 어떤 사람들은 바울이 이 책의 저자일 것이라고 생각합니다. 왜냐하면 바울은 디모데를 언급했기 때문입니다(13장). 그리고 감옥에 갇혔기 때문입니다(10장). 그러나 히브리서의 글쓰기 스타일은 바울의 글쓰기와는 매우 다릅니다. 어떤 사람들은 누가, 실라, 바나바, 아볼로, 빌립 등을 고려합니다. 그러나 히브리서의 저자는 오직 하나님만이 아십니다. 중요한 점은 히브리서 책도 다른 성경의 모든 책처럼 성령으로부터 영감을 받은 것이라는 사실입니다.
There are some questions surrounding the author of the Book of Hebrews. We are not sure exactly who it is because the author never identifies himself. Some think that Paul is the author because he mentioned Timothy (Chapter 13) and was in prison (Chapter 10). However, the writing style of Hebrews is very different from Paul’s writing. Some think Luke, Silas, Barnabas, Apollos, and Philip. But only God would know who the author of Hebrews is. What’s important is the fact that the book of Hebrews, like all the rest of the books in the bible, have been inspired by the Holy Spirit.
히브리서는 1세기의 히브리 그리스도인들을 위해 쓰여진 것으로, 그들은 믿음에 어려움을 겪고 있었습니다. 그래서 저자는 많이 격려를 합니다. 주요 주제는 인내입니다. 6장의 아브라함처럼, 11장의 모세처럼, 그리고 무엇보다도 12장의 예수님처럼 인내하는 것입니다. 그러므로 만약 믿음에 어려움을 겪고 있다면, 예수님을 바라보아야 합니다. 그리고 오늘 읽은 1장은 예수님이 정확히 누구인지에 대해 설명합니다.
Hebrews is written for the 1st century Hebrew Christians who were struggling with their faith. That’s why there are words of encouragement all throughout the book. The primary theme is perseverance, just like Abraham in Chapter 6 and like Moses in Chapter 11 and most importantly like Jesus in Chapter 12. So most importantly, if you are struggling in your faith, you must look at Jesus. And this Chapter 1 that we read today explains fully who Jesus truly is.
예수님은 누구신가요?
예수님이 누구인지 알아야 합니다. 유대인들은 예수님이 누구인지 이해하지 못했기 때문에 믿음을 지속하지 못하고 신앙을 포기하게 되었습니다. 또한 실제로 그리스도를 알지 못한다면 교회를 떠나게 되는 것도 당연한 일입니다. 이러한 유대인들은 심지어 예수님이 창조주인 하늘의 아버지이심을 믿지 않았기 때문에 자신의 목숨을 내려놓고 고난을 견디지 못했습니다. 그들은 이러한 종류의 고통을 견딜 믿음이 없었습니다. 그래서 히브리서의 저자는, 그 저자가 바울이든, 누가든, 실라든, 바나바든, 아볼로든, 빌립이든 상관없이 예수님이 하나님의 아들이며 그의 이름을 영광스럽게 여기도록 설명하고 있습니다.
구약에서는 하나님이 선지자들에게 말씀하시고 그 선지자들이 백성에게 하나님의 말씀을 전했습니다. 그러나 신약에서는 이 마지막 날에 하나님은 우리에게 말씀하시기 위해 그의 유일한 아들 예수님을 사용하십니다.
Who is Jesus?
Knowing who Jesus is, is very important. Because the Jews did not understand who Jesus was, the Jews ended up not persevering and just giving up their faith. It is also natural that you would leave the church if you don’t really know Christ. Because these Jews did not even believe that Jesus is our creator heavenly father, they could not lay down their lives and endure suffering. They had no faith to endure this type of suffering. So this is why the author of Hebrews, whether it be Paul, Luke, Silas, Barnabas, Apollos, or Philip, is explaining that Jesus is THE Son of God and that we should glorify HIS name.
In the Old Testament, God talked to prophets and then those prophets told the people what God said. However in the New Testament, in these last days, God is using Jesus, His one and only son, to speak to us.
1장은 예수님이 구약의 선지자들보다 더 뛰어난 점을 3가지로 설명합니다.
2절: 이 아들을 만유의 상속자로 세우시고 또 그로 말미암아 모든 세계를 지으셨느니라
3a절: 이는 하나님의 영광의 광채시요 그 본체의 형상이시라
3b 절: 죄를 정결하게 하는 일을 하시고 높은 곳에 계신 지극히 크신 이의 우편에 앉으셨느니라
구약에서는 선지자들이 백성에게 말씀을 전하였지만 그들은 죄를 용서할 수 없었으므로 사람들은 용서를 구하기 위해 양을 제사로 바쳐야 됬습니다. 그러나 신약에서 예수님은 선지자, 왕, 그리고 어린 양의 조합이었습니다. 더 이상 우리는 죄를 위해 제사를 드릴 필요가 없어진것입니다.
Chapter 1 explains that Jesus was more superior than the Old Testament prophets in 3 points.
Verse 2: whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe
Verse 3a: Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being
Verse 3b: After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven
In the Old Testament, the prophets spoke to the people but could not forgive them of their sins so the people needed to sacrifice lambs to ask for forgiveness. However, in the New Testament, Jesus was a combination of the prophets, King, and the ultimate lamb. No longer did we need to sacrifice for our sins.
천사들보다 높은 예수님
저자는 초기 그리스도 교인 중 일부가 천사를 숭배하던 시기를 다루고 있습니다. 천사들은 단순히 매신저일 뿐입니다. 그러나 예수님은 슈퍼 매신저 였습니다. 예수님은 말씀이시고 하나님의 아들이었습니다. 천사들은 하나님의 봉사자이며 불꽃처럼 불타오르는 역할을 합니다. 그러나 예수님은 하나님의 영원한 아들로써 우월한 본성을 가졌습니다(7). 그리스도는 영원한 왕으로 영원히 다스리십니다(8a). 천사들은 유혹을 겪은 적이 없지만, 예수님은 사람 가운데서 왔으며 죄 없는 생활로 의의 품질을 나타내셨습니다(8-9). 천사들은 단지 피조물일 뿐이지만, 그리스도는 창조주 입니다(10-12). 그리고 그리스도는 위엄의 우편에 앉아 계십니다(3, 13). 천사 중에 하나도 하나님의 우편에 앉으라고 초청 받은 적이 없습니다. 천사들은 성도를 섬길 뿐(14) 구원을 제공할 수 없지만, 그리스도는 하나님의 아들뿐만 아니라 우리의 구원자입니다.
Jesus superior to angels
The author is addressing part of the early Christians who used to worship the angels instead. Angels are just messengers. However Jesus was the ultimate messenger. He was the word itself and was THE Son of God. While angels are worshippers, Jesus receives the worship of the angels. Angels serve God's purposes as His servants and flames of fire, but Jesus, as the eternal Son of God, possesses a superior nature (7). Christ is the eternal King who reigns forever (8a). Angels have not experienced temptation, but Christ came among humans, lived a sinless life, and displayed the qualities of righteousness (8-9). Angels are mere creations, but Christ is the Creator (10-12). And Christ is seated at the right hand of majesty (3, 13). No angel has been invited to sit at God's right hand. Angels were sent to serve (14) and cannot offer salvation, but Christ is not only the Son of God but also our Savior.
히브리서의 저자는 거짓 가르침에 흔들리는 그리스도인들에게 왜 말하고 있는 걸까요? 그것은 표면적인 위로나 빈정함을 제공하기 위한 것이 아닙니다. 모든 믿는 자의 눈을 그리스도에게 향하게 하려는 것이죠. 믿음은 우리의 눈을 들어 그리스도에게 초점을 맞추고 그분을 묵상함으로써 하늘의 위로를 경험하는 것입니다. 이것만이 순간뿐만 아니라 영원히 우리를 떠받치는 힘입니다. 오늘, 히브리서의 말씀은 우리 모두에게 우리를 구원한 그리스도를 바라보도록 초청하고 있습니다. 그것은 우리를 그리스도의 존재로 초대하고 있는 것입니다.
우리는 이 세상에서 살면서 이 세상이 우리를 유혹하고 거스르게 하려고 최선을 다합니다. 그러나 우리가 걸려넘어질 때마다 우리는 종종 땅을 바라보게 됩니다. 그러나 우리가 걸려넘을 때마다, 우리는 모두 예수 그리스도를 바라볼 것을 기억해야 합니다. 우리는 그분이 우리의 진정한 구원자이며 우리 죄를 위해 죽으신 분이심을 알고 믿습니다. 아멘.
What was the purpose of the author of Hebrews addressing the Christians who were being shaken by false teachings. It wasn't about providing shallow comfort or empty sympathy. Nor was it about giving false hope that everything will turn out well. The author directs the eyes of all believers towards Christ. Faith involves lifting our eyes to focus on Christ and experiencing heavenly comfort through meditating upon Him. This alone is the power that sustains us not only in the moment but eternally. Today, the words in Hebrews extend an invitation to all of us to gaze upon Christ who saved us. It is inviting us to the presence of Christ.
As we live in this world, the world tries its hardest to tempt us and to make us stumble. But each time you stumble, we tend to just look at the ground. But each time we stumble, let’s all remember to look at Jesus Christ. Because we know and believe that He is our one true savior and that He is the one who died for our sins. Amen.
