8:14 예루살렘에 있는 사도들이 사마리아도 하나님의 말씀을 받았다 함을 듣고 베드로와 요한을 보내매
14 When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to Samaria.
8:15 그들이 내려가서 그들을 위하여 성령 받기를 기도하니
15 When they arrived, they prayed for the new believers there that they might receive the Holy Spirit,
8:16 이는 아직 한 사람에게도 성령 내리신 일이 없고 오직 주 예수의 이름으로 세례만 받을 뿐이더라
16 because the Holy Spirit had not yet come on any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
8:17 이에 두 사도가 그들에게 안수하매 성령을 받는지라
17 Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.
8:18 시몬이 사도들의 안수로 성령 받는 것을 보고 돈을 드려
18 When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money
8:19 이르되 이 권능을 내게도 주어 누구든지 내가 안수하는 사람은 성령을 받게 하여 주소서 하니
19 and said, “Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.”
8:20 베드로가 이르되 네가 하나님의 선물을 돈 주고 살 줄로 생각하였으니 네 은과 네가 함께 망할지어다
20 Peter answered: “May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money!
8:21 하나님 앞에서 네 마음이 바르지 못하니 이 도에는 네가 관계도 없고 분깃 된 것도 없느니라
21 You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God.
8:22 그러므로 너의 이 악함을 회개하고 주께 기도하라 혹 마음에 품은 것을 사하여 주시리라
22 Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord in the hope that he may forgive you for having such a thought in your heart.
8:23 내가 보니 너는 악독이 가득하여 불의에 매인 바 되었도다
23 For I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin.”
8:24 시몬이 대답하여 이르되 나를 위하여 주께 기도하여 말한 것이 하나도 내게 임하지 않게 하소서 하니라
24 Then Simon answered, “Pray to the Lord for me so that nothing you have said may happen to me.”
8:25 두 사도가 주의 말씀을 증언하여 말한 후 예루살렘으로 돌아갈새 사마리아인의 여러 마을에서 복음을 전파하니라
25 After they had further proclaimed the word of the Lord and testified about Jesus, Peter and John returned to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel in many Samaritan villages.
빌립의 사마리아 전도(3~13절)
사울을 통한 불과 같은 박해, 덕분에 기독교의 불씨는 더욱 빠르게 번져 나갔습니다.
기독교인들은 흩어진 믿음의 유대인(디아스포라)들에게 복음을 전했습니다.
그 중에서 빌립이라는 집사가 있었습니다. 빌립은 일곱 집사 중 하나입니다(행 6:3, 4).
하지만 성경에는 집사라는 기록은 없습니다. 그저 7명의 사람이라는 표현만 있습니다.
헬라어로 디아코네인(공궤), 디아코니아(봉사), 디아코노스(종)라는 기록만이 있습니다.
하지만 집사라 불렸던 스데반이나 빌립을 보면 오히려 사도를 능가하는 사역을 감당했던 것을 볼 수 있습니다. 그러니까 당시의 디아코노스(집사, 섬기는 자)는 사도를 도와 동역하는 자들이었습니다.
오늘날로 치자면 제자훈련하는 교회의 평신도 사역자와 같은 역할인 것 같습니다.
그는 사미라아의 수도인 사마리아 성에서 전도를 한 것으로 보입니다. 이곳은 이미 예수님에 의하여 교회가 세워졌던 곳입니다. 하지만 사마리아 사람들은 피해의식과 열등감에 반하는 교만이 있습니다.
그들은 자신들이 소유한 그리심 산 버전의 모세오경만 인정했습니다.
그래서 칼빈은 빌립이 그 곳에서 전도한 일은 대담무쌍한 일이다! 말했던 것입니다.
하지만 이것은 예수님의 그 위대한 명령이었습니다.
오직 성령이 너희에게 임하시면 너희가 권능을 받고 예루살렘과 온 유대와
사마리아와 땅 끝까지 이르러 내 증인이 되리라 하시니라 (행 1:8)
The Conversion of the Samaritans by Philip (Acts 8:3-13)
Due to the fiery persecution through Saul, the flame of Christianity spread even faster. The Christians proclaimed the Gospel to the scattered Jews of the Diaspora. Among them was a servant named Philip, who was one of the seven deacons (Acts 6:3, 4).
However, there is no record of "deacon" in the Bible. There is only an expression of seven men. In Greek, the records include "diakonos" (servant), "diakonia" (service), and "diakonoi" (ministers). But when we look at Stephen or Philip, who were called servants, we can see that they actually carried out ministries surpassing the apostles. So, the "diakonoi" (servants, ministers) of that time were those who assisted and worked together with the apostles.
In modern terms, they were like lay ministers in the church who received discipleship training.
It appears that Philip preached in the city of Samaria, the capital of Samaria. This place was where the church had already been established by Jesus. However, the Samaritans had a pride that contradicted the sense of victimhood and inferiority. They only recognized the Samaritan version of the Mosaic Law.
Therefore, John Calvin said that what Philip did there was an audacious and remarkable thing! However, this was a great commandment of Jesus.
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
(Acts 1:8)
전도하는 것은 곧, 예수 그리스도를 전하는 것이요, 그의 하신 일을 전하는 것입니다.
복음을 전할 때 사마리아에도 놀라운 역사가 일어났습니다.
사람들이 한마음으로 말씀에 순종하고(6), 귀신들이 물러가고 치유의 역사 일어났습니다(7).
그리고 기쁨이 넘쳤습니다(8). 마지막으로 믿고 회개하여 세례를 받았습니다(12).
특별히 관심을 받는 개종자가 있었는데, 그는 마술사 시몬입니다. 그는 자칭 큰 자(티나 메간)로 여기며 마술로 사람들을 현혹하는 자였습니다. 사람들은 그를 메갈레(큰 것)이라고 부르며 모두 따랐습니다.
하지만 이제 시몬은 하나님의 말씀을 따르고 빌립을 따릅니다(13).
To spread the Gospel is to proclaim Jesus Christ and His works. When the Gospel was preached, remarkable things happened in Samaria. The people obeyed the word with one accord (6), evil spirits departed, and there were healings (7). There was great joy (8). Finally, people believed, repented, and were baptized (12).
One particular person of interest who converted was Simon the sorcerer. He proclaimed himself as a great figure (Tina Megan) and used magic to deceive people. They called him "the Great Power" and followed him. However, now Simon follows the word of God and follows Philip (13).
두 사도의 사마리아 파송 (14~25절)
예루살렘 교회의 사도들은 사마리아가 복음을 받았다는 소식을 듣고는 베드로와 요한을 파송합니다.
두 사도의 파송은 사마리아에 좀 더 공식적이고 조직적인 교회를 세운다는 의미입니다.
그들이 사마리아에서 사역을 시작하자 성령의 충만과 성령의 임재의 역사가 나타났습니다.
그래서 주석가들 사마리아의 오순절이라고 표현하기도 합니다.
이를 본 마술사 시몬은 사도들에게 돈을 주며 자신도 이 권능을 주어 자신이 안수하는 누구든지 성령을 받게 해달라고 부탁합니다(19). 물론 이것은 성령에 대한 무지함에서 나온 말입니다.
그러자 베드로는 시몬을 엄청나게 책망합니다(20, 21). 아마도 예수님께 혼난 적이 많은 베드로는 자신도 모르게 예수님을 닮게 된 것 같습니다. 하지만 혼을 내는 기본적인 마음 바탕은 너의 악함을 회개하고 주께 기도하라 혹 마음에 품은 것을 사하여 주시리라(22)입니다.
시몬의 언행은 충분히 하나님을 모독하는 행위였습니다. 무엇이 문제였을까요?
The Sending of the Two Apostles to Samaria (Acts 8:14-25)
Upon hearing the news that Samaria had received the Gospel, the apostles in the Jerusalem church sent Peter and John. The sending of the two apostles signified the establishment of a more formal and organized church in Samaria. When they began their ministry in Samaria, the fullness of the Holy Spirit and the power of the Holy Spirit's impartation were manifested. It is sometimes referred to as the Samaritan Pentecost.
Upon witnessing this, Simon the sorcerer approached the apostles and offered them money, asking to receive the power to bestow the Holy Spirit upon anyone he laid his hands on (19). Of course, this request stemmed from his ignorance concerning the Holy Spirit. In response, Peter strongly rebuked Simon (20, 21). Perhaps Peter, who had previously faced rebuke from Jesus, unknowingly resembled Jesus in this situation. However, at the core of his stern rebuke was the message to repent of his wickedness and pray to the Lord for forgiveness, that the intent of his heart may be forgiven (22).
Simon's actions were a blatant act of blasphemy against God. What was the problem?
첫번째로 시몬의 언행은 황금만능주의를 그대로 드러내는 언행이었습니다.
그는 개종을 했지만 여전히 맘몬신을 섬기는 물질의 노예였습니다. 돈이 최고이고, 돈으로 모든 것을 해결할 수 있다는 생각은 맘몬신을 섬기는 자들의 가장 큰 특징입니다.
성직 매매를 뜻하는 단어인 사이모니(Simony)가 바로 그의 이름에서 온 것입니다.
두번째로 마음이 바르지 못했습니다.
그가 최종적으로 추구한 것은 자신의 능력, 명예였습니다.
성령을 이용하여 자신의 필요(명예, 인기, 물질)를 채우고자 하는 신앙이었던 것입니다.
사도는 이것을 악독이 가득하여 불의에 매였다(23)고 표현했습니다.
원어적 의미는 쓸개로 가득한, 쓴 담즙이 가득하며, 불의의 노예가 되었다 입니다.
그후에 시몬은 어떻게 되었을까요? 시몬은 나를 위하여 주께 기도하여 말한 것이 하나도 내게 임하지 않게 하소서(24)라고 사도들에게 부탁합니다. 이것은 그의 진정한 회개인가요?
그렇지 않다는 학자들이 대부분입니다. 어떤 기록에는 로마에서 베드로를 대적했다는 기록도 있습니다.
많은 주석가들은 그의 회개에 대해서 회의적입니다. 어떤 것이 사실인지 모릅니다.
하지만 성경은 우리들에게 시몬의 이야기를 통하여 도전을 준다고 생각합니다.
계속 불의한 자로 살다가 죽을 것인가? 아니면 회개하고 참 제자가 될 것인가?
오롯이 우리의 몫입니다. 우리는 오히려 시몬에게 배워야 할 것이 있습니다.
Firstly, Simon's actions revealed his belief in materialistic power, which is a form of idolatry. Though he had converted, he remained a slave to the worship of money. The notion that money is supreme and can solve all problems is a characteristic of those who serve materialistic idols. The term "simony," which refers to the buying and selling of church offices, derives from his name.
Secondly, his heart was not right. His ultimate pursuit was his own abilities and fame. It was a faith that sought to use the Holy Spirit to fulfill his own desires for honor, popularity, and material wealth. The apostle described this as being "full of bitterness and captive to sin" (23).
The literal meaning is "filled with bitterness like gall, full of bitterness, and became a slave of injustice."
What happened to Simon afterward? Simon asked the apostles to pray for him so that none of the things they had said would happen to him (24). Was this his true repentance? Many commentators are skeptical about his repentance. They do not know what is true.
Nevertheless, the Bible presents us with Simon's story as a challenge.
Will we continue to live as unjust individuals and die? Or will we repent and become true disciples?
That is solely our responsibility. Instead, we should learn from Simon and examine our own lives.
먼저는 성령에 대한 열정입니다(19).
분명히 그의 신앙은 문제가 있었습니다! 하지만 그의 열정만큼은 높이 살만합니다.
오늘날 성도들은 이렇게 실수할 정도의 열정이 없습니다. 베드로와 같이 주님을 사랑하는 마음이 넘치다 보면 실수할 수도 있지만, 그것은 얼마든지 훈련을 통해서 성숙해질 수 있습니다.
하지만 없는 열정을 불러 일으키는 것은 결코 쉽지 않습니다.
베드로가 가장 첫번째 사도가 될 수 있었던 것도 예수님을 향한 그의 사랑의 열정 때문이었을 것입니다.
또 다른 하나는 말씀에 대한 반응입니다(24).
만일 오늘날 목사가 이렇게 핀잔을 주면 교회 붙어있을 사람은 한 사람도 없을 것입니다.
물론 사도들의 시대가 끝난 현대 교회에서 이렇게 핀잔주는 것도 옳지는 않습니다.
하지만 하나님의 말씀을 가감 없이 그대로 전하고, 그 말씀을 살아있는 하나님의 말씀으로 받는 믿음만큼은 우리가 배워야 하겠습니다. 우리의 바르지 못한 마음을 말씀으로 고칩시다!
First of all, it is about the Passion for the Holy Spirit (19).
Clearly, his faith had issues! However, his passion was commendable.
Today's believers lack such a level of passion. Just like Peter, who loved the Lord with overflowing affection, we may make mistakes, but through training, we can mature.
But igniting a passion that doesn't exist is never easy.
Peter could have become the first apostle because of his passionate love for Jesus.
Another aspect is the Response to the Word (24).
If a pastor were to give such rebukes today, there wouldn't be a single person left in the church.
Of course, it is not appropriate to give rebukes like this in the modern church era after the time of the apostles has ended.
However, we must learn to deliver God's Word without alteration and receive it as the living Word of God. Let's use the Word to correct our flawed hearts!
