4:13 그들이 베드로와 요한이 담대하게 말함을 보고 그들을 본래 학문 없는 범인으로 알았다가 이상히 여기며 또 전에 예수와 함께 있던 줄도 알고
13 When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.
4:14 또 병 나은 사람이 그들과 함께 서 있는 것을 보고 비난할 말이 없는지라
14 But since they could see the man who had been healed standing there with them, there was nothing they could say.
4:15 명하여 공회에서 나라가 하고 서로 의논하여 이르되
15 So they ordered them to withdraw from the Sanhedrin and then conferred together.
4:16 이 사람들을 어떻게 할까 그들로 말미암아 유명한 표적 나타난 것이 예루살렘에 사는 모든 사람에게 알려졌으니 우리도 부인할 수 없는지라
16 “What are we going to do with these men?” they asked. “Everyone living in Jerusalem knows they have performed a notable sign, and we cannot deny it.
4:17 이것이 민간에 더 퍼지지 못하게 그들을 위협하여 이후에는 이 이름으로 아무에게도 말하지 말게 하자 하고
17 But to stop this thing from spreading any further among the people, we must warn them to speak no longer to anyone in this name.”
4:18 그들을 불러 경고하여 도무지 예수의 이름으로 말하지도 말고 가르치지도 말라 하니
18 Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.
4:19 베드로와 요한이 대답하여 이르되 하나님 앞에서 너희의 말을 듣는 것이 하나님의 말씀을 듣는 것보다 옳은가 판단하라
19 But Peter and John replied, “Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him? You be the judges!
4:20 우리는 보고 들은 것을 말하지 아니할 수 없다 하니
20 As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.”
4:21 관리들이 백성들 때문에 그들을 어떻게 처벌할지 방법을 찾지 못하고 다시 위협하여 놓아 주었으니 이는 모든 사람이 그 된 일을 보고 하나님께 영광을 돌림이라
21 After further threats they let them go. They could not decide how to punish them, because all the people were praising God for what had happened.
4:22 이 표적으로 병 나은 사람은 사십여 세나 되었더라
22 For the man who was miraculously healed was over forty years old.
나면서부터 걷지 못하는 걸인은 성전으로 들어가는 미문(美門) 앞에 앉아서 구걸을 했습니다.
그는 나면서부터 무려 40년 동안(22) 한 번도 자신의 발로 일어나 걷지 못했습니다.
그가 그렇게 된 것은 무슨 이유 때문일까요?
의학적으로 따지자면 무엇인가 결핍이 있었기 때문일 것입니다. 태중에 있을 때 모친이 제대로 먹지 못했다든가… 영적으로 따지자면 모든 것이 하나님의 섭리 가운데 벌어진 일일 것입니다.
그의 병은 하나님의 영광을 드러내기 위한 것이었습니다.
한편으로는 사탄은 원래 하나님이 아름답고 행복하게 지으신 인생을 미워하여 함께 지옥의 길동무 삼으려고 합니다. 그래서 아담과 하와가 범죄하게 하고 죄가 들어와 사망에 이르게 했습니다.
그 과정 가운데 벌어지는 일이 질병입니다.
사탄은 이 불쌍한 인생을 40년동안 옥죄어 걷지 못하게 한 것입니다. 하지만 하나님은 예수 그리스도를 보내어 이 모든 죄의 권세를 깨뜨리시고, 회복과 구원을 선포하신 것입니다.
이 불쌍한 자의 치유 사건도 예수 그리스도께서 승리하셨음을 보여주는 사건입니다.
The beggar who couldn't walk from birth sat begging in front of the Beautiful Gate of the temple. He had never been able to stand up and walk on his own for a staggering 40 years (22). What could be the reason for his condition? Medically speaking, there must have been some deficiency. Perhaps his mother didn't have proper nutrition during pregnancy... Spiritually speaking, everything happened within the providence of God. His illness was intended to reveal God's glory.
On the other hand, Satan, who hates the beautiful and happy life created by God, seeks to make them his companions on the path to hell. Therefore, Adam and Eve were tempted to sin and it resulted in their downfall and death. Diseases occur as part of this process.
Satan prevented this poor man from walking for 40 years as part of his condemnation. However, God sent Jesus Christ to break the power of sin and proclaim restoration and salvation. The healing of this unfortunate man is also a demonstration of Jesus Christ's victory.
하나님을 기쁘시게 하는 삶
제사장들과 사두개인들의 질문에 베드로와 요한이 막힘없이 담대하게 말했습니다(13).
담대하게 말했다 에 해당하는 헬라어 파르레시안 은 모든 것을 남김없이 자유롭고 대담하게 말하였다는 의미입니다.
학문 없는 범인은 아주 무식한 사람이요, 전문가에 대하여 문외한이라는 의미입니다.
율법의 내용이나 이론체계를 배우지 못한 결코 남을 가르치거나 지도할 만한 인물이 아니라는 것입니다.
그러니까 제사장과 사두개인들이 당황한 이유를 다시 정리해보면 다음과 같습니다.
첫째로 그들이 전문 율법교육을 받지 않았음을 아는데, 구약성경(시 118:22)을 신학적으로 담대히 해석하고 인용했기 때문입니다. 자신들의 가르침과 같지 않음을 본인들이 느꼈던 것입니다.
A Life That Pleases God
When questioned by the priests and the Sadducees, Peter and John spoke boldly without hesitation (13).
The phrase "spoke boldly" in Greek, parresia, means to speak freely and boldly, leaving nothing unsaid. It refers to speaking without fear.
An uneducated criminal is someone who is ignorant and unfamiliar with experts. It means they have not learned the content or system of the law and are not qualified to teach or guide others.
So, to summarize the reason why the priests and the Sadducees were perplexed:
First, they knew that Peter and John had not received formal education in the law, yet they boldly interpreted and quoted Old Testament Scripture (Psalm 118:22) in a theological manner that contradicted their own teachings.
둘째로 예수와 함께 있었던 것을 알기에 그렇습니다.
그들이 느끼기에 흡사 예수가 부활하여 두 명이 된 것 같은 느낌을 받았을 것입니다.
이에 대해서 F.F. Bruce는 다음과 같이 말합니다.
주님 자신도 ‘이 사람은 배우지 아니하였거늘 어떻게 글을 아느냐?’(요7:15)하는 말을 들으셨는데, 그만한 교훈과 적을 물리칠 수 있는 원리와 능력을 제자들에게 나누어 주셨음이 분명하다.
사도 바울이 말한 것처럼 하나님께서는 세상의 천한 것들과 멸시 받는 것들과 없는 것들을 택하사 있는 것들을 폐하시는 것입니다(고전 1:28).
Second, it was known that Peter and John had been with Jesus.
They might have felt a sense of similarity, as if they had been transformed into two people, similar to how Jesus had risen from the dead.
Regarding this, F.F. Bruce states the following:
The Lord Himself had heard the question, “How did this man get such learning without having been taught?” (John 7:15), yet He clearly imparted to His disciples the teachings, principles, and abilities to overcome their opponents.
As the Apostle Paul stated, God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are (1 Corinthians 1:28).
셋째로 병 나은 사람이 그들과 함께 서있는 것입니다.
너무 확실하여 부인할 수 없는 증거가 눈 앞에 있습니다.
병 나은 사람은 이제 완전히 예수의 제자이자, 베드로와 요한의 제자가 된 것 같습니다. 눈치가 있으면 도망하는 것이 맞는데, 그에게는 이제 오직 예수, 그리고 베드로와 요한만 보이는 듯합니다.
하나님의 나라는 말에 있지 아니하고 오직 능력에 있습니다(고전 4:20).
제사장과 서기관들은 오직 말 뿐인 자들이었지만, 제자들에게는 하나님 나라의 능력이 나타났던 것입니다. 오직 예수 이름의 능력이 사도들 안에 넘친 것입니다.
Thirdly, there is the presence of the healed man standing with them.
The evidence is so clear that it cannot be denied. The healed man now seems to be completely a disciple of Jesus, just like Peter and John. If he had any sense, he should run away, but now he only seems to see Jesus and Peter and John.
For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power (1 Corinthians 4:20).
While the priests and scribes were only people of words, the disciples witnessed the power of the kingdom of God. It was the power of the name of Jesus overflowing within the apostles.
우리는 사도들에게서 하나님을 기쁘시게 하는 삶을 살기 위해 필요한 것이 무엇인지를 배울 수 있습니다.
그것은 실력입니다.무엇이든지 전무가가 되어야 합니다. 전문가는 자신이 하는 일을 사랑하여 그 일에 몰두하는 사람입니다. 그러다 보면 자연스럽게 실력이 쌓입니다.
그 다음은 내 안에 예수가 충만해야 합니다.우리는 사람들에게 예수쟁이라는 말을 들어야 합니다. 사람들이 우리를 통해 예수의 모습을 볼 수 있어야 합니다.
마지막으로 하나님이 함께 하심의 증거가 있어야 합니다.예수 믿는 것을 너무 사명, 의무, 책임으로 받아서는 안 됩니다. 믿음은 아버지되신 하나님을 사랑하고 동행하는 것입니다. 하나님을 진심으로 사랑한다면 자연스럽게 그 증거가 삶에서 드러납니다. 이 일을 위해서 우리는 기도해야 합니다.
그렇게 할 때 우리의 삶은 하나님을 기쁘시게 하는 삶이 될 것입니다.
From the apostles, we can learn what is necessary to live a life that pleases God.
It is competence. We need to become skilled in whatever we do. An expert is someone who loves what they do and immerses themselves in it, and through that, they naturally gain competence.
Next, Jesus must be fully present within us. We should be called "imitators of Christ" by others. People should see the image of Jesus through us.
Lastly, there should be evidence of God's presence with us. We should not approach believing in Jesus as a duty, obligation, or responsibility. Faith is about loving and journeying with God the Father. If we truly love God, the evidence will naturally manifest in our lives. For this, we need to pray.
By doing so, our lives will become lives that please God.
하나님을 기쁘시게 하는 말
두 번째로 살펴보기를 원하는 것은 우리의 삶에서 말이라는 부분입니다. 말이라는 단어는10절 가운데 총 7회 등장합니다. 우리의 삶이 복음의 증인이라면, 우리의 말은 복음의 증언입니다.
제사장과 사두개인들의 말문이 막혀 버렸다(14)는 것은 어안이 벙벙하여, 잠깐 타임을 외친 것을 의미합니다. 너무나도 확실한 증거와 증언이 있으니 자신들도 부인하지 못할 것임을 인정합니다(16).
겨우 할 수 있는 일은 예수 이름으로 아무에게도 말하지 말라고 협박하고 내쫓는 것입니다(17, 18).
사탄이 가장 싫어하는 것은 예수 이름이고, 또한 그것을 말하고 전하는 것입니다.
하지만 베드로와 요한은 산헤드린 공회의 위협에도 굴하지 않고 반박합니다(19).
사도 바울 역시 이제 내가 사람들에게 좋게 하랴 하나님께 좋게 하랴 사람들에게 기쁨을 구하랴 내가 지금까지 사람들의 기쁨을 구하였다면 그리스도의 종이 아니니라(갈 1:10) 말했습니다.
Words that please God
The second aspect we want to examine is the role of words in our lives. The word "words" appears a total of 7 times in verse 10. If our lives are witnesses of the Gospel, our words are testimonies of the Gospel.
The priests and the Sadducees had nothing they could say (14), meaning they were dumbfounded and momentarily lost their voice. They acknowledged that there was such clear evidence and testimony that they couldn't deny it themselves (16).
All they could do was threaten and drive away others from from speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus (17, 18). What Satan hates the most is the name of Jesus and proclaiming it.
However, Peter and John did not yield to the threats of the Sanhedrin and opposed them (19). The Apostle Paul also said, "am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ" (Galatians 1:10).
요즘 목회자나 성도들 가운데 말로 하는 전도도 좋지만, 삶으로 전도하는 것이 우선이다 말합니다.
옳은 말이지만, 하지만 전도의 결국에는 우리는 주 예수를 믿으라 그리하면 너와 네 집이 구원을 받을 것이라고 말할 수밖에 없습니다.
우리는 삶으로 예수님의 증인이 되어야 합니다. 또한 동시에 우리는 말로 예수님이 하신 일과 우리가 보고 듣고, 겪은 일을 증언해야 합니다. 이것이 예수님을 보고 들은 제자의 삶이요, 증인의 삶입니다.
하나님을 기쁘시게 하는 삶을 살고 싶으십니까? 우리의 모습에서 예수가 보이도록 살아야 합니다.
하나님을 기쁘시게 하는 말을 하고 싶으십니까? 예수를 찬양하고, 예수를 전해야 합니다.
우리는 예수 그리스도의 증인입니다. 증인은 자신이 보고 들은 것에 목숨을 거는 자들입니다.
Among pastors and believers these days, they emphasize evangelism through words is good, but evangelism through life is the priority.
Although it is a right statement, but in the end of evangelism, we have no choice but to say, “believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
We need to be witnesses of Jesus through our lives. At the same time, we need to testify with our words about what Jesus has done, what we have seen, heard, and experienced. This is the life of a disciple who has seen and heard Jesus, a life of a witness.
Do you want to live a life that pleases God? We must live in a way that reflects Jesus in our appearance.
Do you want to speak words that please God? We must praise Jesus and proclaim Jesus.
We are witnesses of Jesus Christ. Witnesses are those who lay down their lives for what they have seen and heard.
