11:1 그 해가 돌아와 왕들이 출전할 때가 되매 다윗이 요압과 그에게 있는 그의 부하들과 온 이스라엘 군대를 보내니 그들이 암몬 자손을 멸하고 랍바를 에워쌌고 다윗은 예루살렘에 그대로 있더라
1 In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, David sent Joab out with the king’s men and the whole Israelite army. They destroyed the Ammonites and besieged Rabbah. But David remained in Jerusalem.
11:2 저녁 때에 다윗이 그의 침상에서 일어나 왕궁 옥상에서 거닐다가 그 곳에서 보니 한 여인이 목욕을 하는데 심히 아름다워 보이는지라
2 One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful,
11:3 다윗이 사람을 보내 그 여인을 알아보게 하였더니 그가 아뢰되 그는 엘리암의 딸이요 헷 사람 우리아의 아내 밧세바가 아니니이까 하니
3 and David sent someone to find out about her. The man said, “She is Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite.”
11:4 다윗이 전령을 보래 그 여자를 자기에게로 데려오게 하여 그 여자와 동침하고 그가 그 여자의 부정함을 깨끗하게 하였으므로 그가 자기 집으로 돌아가니라
4 Then David sent messengers to get her. She came to him, and he slept with her. (Now she was purifying herself from her monthly uncleanness.) Then she went back home.
11:5 그 여인이 임신하매 사람을 보내 다윗에게 말하여 이르되 내가 임신하였나이다 하니라
5 The woman conceived and sent word to David, saying, “I am pregnant.”
11:6 다윗이 요압에게 기별하여 헷 사람 우리아를 내게 보내라 하매 요압이 우리아를 다윗에게로 보내니
6 So David sent this word to Joab: “Send me Uriah the Hittite.” And Joab sent him to David.
11:7 우리아가 다윗에게 이르매 다윗이 요압의 안부와 군사의 안부와 싸움의 어떠한 것을 묻고
7 When Uriah came to him, David asked him how Joab was, how the soldiers were and how the war was going.
11:8 그가 또 우리아에게 이르되 네 집으로 내려가서 발을 씻으라 하니 우리아가 왕궁에서 나가매 왕의 음식물이 뒤따라 가니라
8 Then David said to Uriah, “Go down to your house and wash your feet.” So Uriah left the palace, and a gift from the king was sent after him.
11:9 그러나 우리아는 집으로 내려가지 아니하고 왕궁 문에서 그의 주의 모든 부하들과 더불어 잔지라
9 But Uriah slept at the entrance to the palace with all his master’s servants and did not go down to his house.
11:10 어떤 사람이 다윗에게 아뢰되 우리아가 그의 집으로 내려가지 아니하였나이다 다윗이 우리아에게 이르되 네가 길 갔다가 돌아온 것이 아니냐 어찌하여 네 집으로 내려가지 아니하였느냐 하니
10 David was told, “Uriah did not go home.” So he asked Uriah, “Haven’t you just come from a military campaign? Why didn’t you go home?”
11:11 우리아가 다윗에게 아뢰되 언약궤와 이스라엘과 유다가 야영 중에 있고 내 주 요압과 내 왕의 부하들이 바깥 들에 진 치고 있거늘 내가 어찌 내 집으로 가서 먹고 마시고 내 처와 같이 자리이까 내가 이 일을 행하지 아니하기로 왕의 살아 계심과 왕의 혼의 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하나이다 하니라
11 Uriah said to David, “The ark and Israel and Judah are staying in tents, and my commander Joab and my lord’s men are camped in the open country. How could I go to my house to eat and drink and make love to my wife? As surely as you live, I will not do such a thing!”
11:12 다윗이 우리아에게 이르되 오늘도 여기 있으라 내일은 내가 너를 보내리라 우리아가 그 날에 예루살렘에 머무니라 이튿날
12 Then David said to him, “Stay here one more day, and tomorrow I will send you back.” So Uriah remained in Jerusalem that day and the next.
11:13 다윗이 그를 불러서 그로 그 앞에서 먹고 마시고 취하게 하니 저녁 때에 그가 나가서 그의 주의 부하들과 더불어 침상에 눕고 그의 집으로 내려가지 아니하니라
13 At David’s invitation, he ate and drank with him, and David made him drunk. But in the evening Uriah went out to sleep on his mat among his master’s servants; he did not go home.
오늘의 본문에는 암몬을 물리쳤던 전장에서 돌아온 다윗을 봅니다. 오늘의 1절a에는 다음과 같이 쓰여 있습니다.
"그 해가 돌아와 왕들이 출전할 때가 되매 다윗이 요압과 그에게 있는 그의 부하들과 온 이스라엘 군대를 보내니."
NIV 성경에서는 그 해가 봄으로 번역 되어있는데요 적어도 10장에 암몬을 물리치고, 몇달의 겨울이 지나고 오늘의 11장으로 왔습니다.
중요한 부분은 왕들은 보통 봄에 전쟁에 나갔지만, 다윗은 요압과 군대만 보내고 자신은 예루살렘에 머물렀습니다. 이것이 다윗의 첫 번째 실수였습니다.
In today’s text, we meet David fresh from the victory over the Ammonites.
When you look at verse 1a from today’s text, it is written:
In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, David sent Joab out with the king’s men and the whole Israelite army.
We can assume at the very least a couple of months have passed. During these ancient times, military operations were usually suspended during the winter. And while kings usually go to war during the spring, David sent Joab and the army in his place. And what was David doing during this time? We see in verse 1b that David stayed in Jerusalem. This was David’s first mistake
그리고 2절에서는 다윗이 저녁에 일어나 왕궁 옥상으로 올라가 여자가 목욕을 하고 있는 것을 “우연히” 보게 됩니다. 왜 다윗이 밤에 일어나게 되었을까요? 어떤 이유로 인해 일어났을까요? 다양한 이유들이 있을 수 있습니다. 그 중 하나는 팔레스타인에서는 오후에 매우 더워질 수 있으므로, 점심 시간에 낮잠을 잔 것일 수 있습니다. 사무엘하 4:5에서 브에롯 사람 림몬의 아들 레갑과 바아나가 이스보셋의 집으로 향할 때, 그들은 오늘의 구절에서 일어난 것처럼 집으로 도착하고 낮잠을 비슷한 시간때 잤었습니다. 스페인에서는 이러한 낮잠을 위한 특별한 단어가 있습니다. 그것은 "시에스타(siesta)"입니다. 오후에는 매우 더워지면서 모든 가게들이 몇 시간 동안 문을 닫고 모든 사람들이 식사, 휴식, 수면 및 더위를 피하기 위한 시간을 갖습니다. 이것이 하나의 이유일 수 있습니다. 다른 이유는 전날 밤 과도한 음식과 술 먹기 때문에 나타난 게으름 때문일 수 있습니다. 어떤 이유 든, 이것은 전쟁에 가야 되는 시기인데 전쟁에 참여하지 않아서 발생한 일입니다.
And in verse 2, David happened to wake up in the evening, go on the roof of his palace, and happened to see a woman bathing. Why would David wake up in the evening? What would prompt you to wake up in the evening? There could have been various reasons why David woke up during this time. One reason is that in Palestine, during the afternoon it can get very hot so he could have been taking a midday nap. In 2 Samuel 4:5, we see that when Rekab and Baanah head for the house of Ish-Bosheth, they arrived during the heat of the day like what might have happened in today’s text and took a midday rest. In Spain, they even have a word for this midday rest. It is called siesta. During the afternoons, when it gets very hot, all the shops would close for a couple of hours and all the people would have time to eat, rest, sleep, and to escape the heat. So this could have been one reason. Another reason could have been his laziness due to his excessive eating and drinking from the night before. Regardless of what the reason was, this was caused by him not going to war when he was supposed to.
다윗은 옥상에서 목욕하는 밧세바를 보았습니다. 그리고 그의 두 번째 실수는 3절에서 다윗이 그녀에 대해 알아내도록 누군가를 보냈을 때입니다. 다윗은 그녀가 목욕하고 있었던 것을 보고, 그녀가 하나님의 창조물로써 얼마나 아름다운지 생각할 수도 있었습니다. 그러나 그는 생각에 따라 행동했습니다. 그래서 그는 어떤 사람을 보내 그녀를 찾아내도록 했습니다. 다윗은 아마도 그녀가 싱글이면 그녀를 데려와 결혼할 수 있을 것이라고 생각하고 있었을 것입니다. 보낸 사람이 돌아와 그녀의 이름은 밧세바이고 그녀가 헷 사람 우리아의 아내라는 것을 다윗이 알게 됩니다. 우리아는 다윗의 가장 강력한 전사 중 한 명입니다.
So David was on the rooftop when he saw Bathesheba bathing. And his second mistake was in verse 3 when David sent someone to find out about her. He could have just seen her bathing and think to himself that God’s creations are so beautiful. But he acted on his thoughts. So he sends a man to find out who she is. David was probably thinking that if she was single, then she would get married to this girl. The man comes back and tells David that her name is Bathesheba and that she is wife of Uriah the Hittite. Uriah the Hittite is one of the most mighty warriors of David.
그래서 이렇게 다윗은 그녀가 누구인지, 그녀의 남편이 누구인지 알게 되었습니다. 다윗은 실제로 몇 번이나 자신을 멈출 기회가 있었습니다. 이것은 그가 멈출 수 있는 마지막 기회였습니다. 상상해보세요. 당신이 거리에서 아름다운 여성을 본 후 그녀가 결혼했다는 것을 알게 되었다면, 당신은 무엇을 할 것인가요? 무엇을 해야 할까요? 옳은 대답은 자신의 행동을 멈추는 것입니다. 그러나 다윗은 밧세바를 불러 그녀와 잠자리에 들었고, 그녀는 임신하게 됩니다. 이제 다윗은 곤란에 처해 있습니다. 그의 가장 강력한 전사 중 한 명의 아내가 임신했습니다.
David finds out who she is and finds out who her husband is. David actually had couple chances to stop himself from falling into sin. And this was last chance to stop. Pretend you are this guy who happens to see this beautiful woman on the streets and then you find out who she is and that she is married. What would you do? What should you do? Honestly, nobody knows. But the correct answer would be to stop yourself.
However, David called for Bathesheba. And they would sleep together, and she gets pregnant. Now, David is in trouble. A wife of one of his most mighty warriors is pregnant.
레위기 20:10에있는 율법을 따르면, 간음자들은 죽음의 처벌을 받아야 합니다. 그래서 다윗이 밧세바로부터 들은 소식에 무서워했을 것입니다.
다윗은 이 죄를 더 큰 죄로 덮으려 합니다. 다윗은 전쟁터에 나가있는 우리아를 불러들입니다 그의 의도는 우리아를 집으로 보내 밧세바와 잠자리를 같이하게 하여, 그 태어날 아기가 우리아와 밧세바 사이에 나온것처럼 이 상황들을 만드는 것입니다. 그러나 다윗의 계획대로 되지 않았습니다. 다윗은 우리아를 쉬게 하려 했지만 9절에서 볼 수 있듯이, 그는 왕궁 입구에서 다른 종들과 함께 잤습니다. 우리아는 자신의 병사들이 아직 전쟁터에서 싸우고 있는데 어떻게 집으로 돌아가냐고 말합니다. 여기서 질문 하나 드리겠습니다. 우리아는 다윗과 밧세바의 관계를 알고 있었을까요? 성경은 우리아가 알고 있었는지 알려주지는 않지만, 한번 상상해봅시다. 오늘의 구절에서 이 사건을 좀 알 수 있는 사람들이 많이 등장합니다. 그 여인이 누군인지 알아보러 간 사람. 밧세바를 대리러 간 사람들. 우리아를 집으로 보내라는 메시지를 전하러 간 사람. 그 메시지를 들은 요압;
우리아가 알거나 들었을수도 있다 생각합니다. 어떤 학자들이 생각하기를 우리아가 모든 것을 알고 있었지만 겸손한 마음으로 아무 말 안했다는 생각도 합니다. 아무튼 우리아를 대려오는것이 다윗을 더 깊은 죄로 빠지게 됩니다.
And by the letter of the law, according to Leviticus 20:10, adulterers both must be punished with death. So David was probably scared when he heard from Bathesheba.
And David tries to cover this sin into even more sin. David calls for Uriah to come back from war. David’s intention was to have Uriah go home, sleep with Bathesheba, and cover this sin so that it can look like she got pregnant from Uriah. However, nothing goes as David planned. David tried to have Uriah rest but in verse 9, we can see that he slept at the entrance of the palace with all the other servants. Uriah said that he couldn’t possibly go back home to sleep when all of his men are still at war sleeping in tents. And we could ask ourselves a fun question here. Did Uriah know about the relationship between David and Bathesheba? The bible does not say whether Uriah knew but there are many people involved in today’s scriptures. There’s the man who was sent to find out who the woman bathing was. There are the messengers who went to Bathesheba’s house to escort her to the palace. There is the messenger who went to Joab to give him the message to have Uriah come home. There’s also Joab who could have thought to himself why David is having Uriah come home. So some scholars think that Uriah knew about everything while some believe that Uriah was just being humble and truly kind-hearted. And of course, this would lead David into even deeper sin.
그래서 야고보서 1:15에서 말한 것은 완전히 옳습니다.
욕심이 잉태한즉 죄를 낳고 죄가 장성한즉 사망을 낳느니라
죄를 바라는 욕심 자체만으로도 결국에는 죽음에 이를 것입니다. 그러나 죄를 짓지 않는 삶이 가능할까요?그렇게 된다면 우리는 로봇처럼 살아야 할 것입니다. 하나님이 만약에 죄 없는 세상을 창조하고 싶었다면, 하나님은 로봇 세상을 만들었을 것입니다. 그러나 우리는 로봇이 아닙니다. 우리는 사람입니다. 우리에게는 자유 의지가 있습니다. 하나님은 우리가 스스로 생각할 수 있도록 허용했습니다. 그렇다면, 다윗왕을 비롯한 모든 사람이 유혹과 욕망에 직면하는 이 세상에서 우리는 어떻게 살아야 할까요?
So what James said in James 1:15 is absolutely correct.
Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
Just the mere desire of sin will eventually lead to death. But is living with no desire of sin even possible? But this means that we need to live like robots. If God wanted to create a world with no sin where everybody will worship Him, God would have made a world of robots. But we are not robots. We are people. We have free will. God allowed us to think for ourselves. So then how should we live in this world where everybody including King David are faced with temptations and desires.
우선, 죄를 지었다고 해도 하나님의 자녀라는 것을 기억 해야 합니다. 보통 우리는 죄를 지을 계획을 세우지는 않습니다. 그냥 죄를 지는 것입니다. 죄 때문에 때로는 하나님께서 우리를 사랑하지 않는다는 생각이 들 수도 있습니다. 그러나 이것은 사탄의 거짓말입니다. 하나님은 우리를 100% 사랑 하시는 줄 믿습니다.
둘째로, 우리는 즉시 회개해야 합니다. 때로는 우리가 주중에 지은 죄를 모아서 주일에 모두 회개하려고 기다리기도 합니다. 그러나 우리는 매일 회개해야 합니다.
셋째로, 우리는 성령 충만해야 합니다. 하나님이 우리에게 성령을 보내어 도와 주십니다. 갈라디아서 5:16은 "내가 이르노니 너희는 성령을 따라 행하라 그리하면 육체의 욕심을 이루지 아니하리라 "라고 기록 되어있습니다.. 그러면 우리는 어떻게 성령으로 충만해질 수 있을까요? 하나님께 항복함으로써. 우리가 하나님께 모든 것을 내려놓을때 우리는 성령 충만 해질 줄 믿습니다.
그래서 오늘 새벽, 우리는 하나님의 자녀임을 기억하고 기도를 통해 회개하며, 모든 것을 내려놓을 수 있는 성도님이 되시 길 바랍니다.
First, we need to remember that even though you might fall into sin, that does not mean that you are no longer a child of God. Normally when we sin, we don’t plan on sinning. They just happen by our impulses. So sometimes, you might say to yourself that God doesn’t love you anymore. However, this is a lie from Satan. God will never stop loving you.
Second, we need to repent immediately. Sometimes, we wait till Sundays to repent everything that we have done. But we need to make sure to repent daily.
And third, we need to be filled with the holy spirit. God sent us the Holy Spirit to help us. Galatians 5:16 says, “So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” And how do we become filled with the spirit? By surrendering to God. By giving God your everything. By letting God be in control.
So I hope that this morning, we will remember that we are a child of God, that we will repent through prayer, and that we will always be filled with the holy spirit by surrendering to Him.
