영혼이 떠나시다 (막 15:33-41; 눅 23:44-49; 요 19:28-30)
(45) 제육시로부터 온 땅에 어둠이 임하여 제구시까지 계속되더니
(46) 제구시쯤에 예수께서 크게 소리 질러 이르시되 엘리 엘리 라마 사박다니 하시니 이는 곧 나의 하나님, 나의 하나님, 어찌하여 나를 버리셨나이까 하는 뜻이라
(47) 거기 섰던 자 중 어떤 이들이 듣고 이르되 이 사람이 엘리야를 부른다 하고
(48) 그 중의 한 사람이 곧 달려가서 해면을 가져다가 신 포도주에 적시어 갈대에 꿰어 마시게 하거늘
(49) 그 남은 사람들이 이르되 가만 두라 엘리야가 와서 그를 구원하나 보자 하더라
(50) 예수께서 다시 크게 소리 지르시고 영혼이 떠나시니라
(51) 이에 성소 휘장이 위로부터 아래까지 찢어져 둘이 되고 땅이 진동하며 바위가 터지고
(52) 무덤들이 열리며 자던 성도의 몸이 많이 일어나되
(53) 예수의 부활 후에 그들이 무덤에서 나와서 거룩한 성에 들어가 많은 사람에게 보이니라
(54) 백부장과 및 함께 예수를 지키던 자들이 지진과 그 일어난 일들을 보고 심히 두려워하여 이르되 이는 진실로 하나님의 아들이었도다 하더라
(55) 예수를 섬기며 갈릴리에서부터 따라온 많은 여자가 거기 있어 멀리서 바라보고 있으니
(56) 그 중에는 막달라 마리아와 또 야고보와 요셉의 어머니 마리아와 또 세베대의 아들들의 어머니도 있더라
황금의 집, 그곳은 거룩한 하나님이 거하시는 곳입니다. 방안에 있는 집기들은 모두 황금으로 덧입혀져 있습니다. 이곳은 일년에 한 번 대제사장만 들어올 수 있는 비밀의 방입니다. 성막시대가 끝나고 솔로몬 이후 성전시대가 되었어도 비밀의 방에는 여전히 대제사장만 들어갈 수 있었습니다.
하지만 오늘 본문에서 드디어 성막과 성전시대가 종식되고 새로운 시대가 시작됩니다.
비밀의 방의 문이 활짝 열립니다. 하지만 그것은 거저 이루어진 것이 아닙니다.
왕의 죽음
만왕의 왕이신 예수 그리스도의 죽음으로 이루어진 놀라운 은혜의 결과입니다.
마태는 제육시부터 제구시까지 온 땅에 어둠이 임했다(45)고 기록합니다. 예수님이 십자가에 못 박히신 시간이 제삼시(막 15:25), 곧 오전 9시입니다. 그리고 운명하신 시간이 제구시이므로 6시간가량 십자가에 달리셨던 것입니다. 그 중에서도 제육시는 우리의 시간으로 12시, 정오이고, 제구시는 오후3시입니다. 가장 해 밝은 시간에 어둠이 임한 것입니다.
F.F. Bruce는 이렇게 시간을 밝힌 것은 이 사건 내용이 역사적 사실이라는 보증이다 라고 말했습니다.
유월절 기간은 보름달 기간이기에 혹자들의 주장대로 일식이 일어날 수 없습니다.
갑자기 임한 온 땅의 어두움은 무엇을 의미하는 것일까요? 아들을 죽음에 내몰 수 밖에 없는 성부의 마음은 아닐까요? 죄 없는 의인을 모욕하고 십자가에 못 박은 자들에 대한 분노의 마음이 아닐까요?
성경에는 예수님이 십자가 위에서 말씀한 7개의 문장이 기록되어 있는데, 이것을 가상칠언 架上七言 이라고 부릅니다.
아버지 저들을 사하여 주옵소서 자기들이 하는 것을 알지 못함이니이다 (눅 23:34)
내가 진실로 네게 이르노니 오늘 네가 나와 함께 낙원에 있으리라 (눅 23:43)
여자여 보소서 아들이니이다, 보라 네 어머니라 (요 19:26b~27a)
엘리 엘리 라마 사박다니 (마 27:46)
내가 목마르다 하시니 (요 19:28)
다 이루었다 (요 19:30)
아버지 내 영혼을 아버지 손에 부탁하나이다 (눅 23:46)
이 가운데 4번째 말씀이 오늘 본문에 기록되어 있습니다. 이것은 시편 22:1을 인용한 것입니다.
시편 원문은 엘리 엘리 라마 아자브타니’ê·lî ’ê·lî lā·māh ‘ă·zaḇ·tā·nî; אליאלי למה עזבתני로 마태의 것과는 동사가 다릅니다. 아마도 앞 부분은 히브리어 그대로 뒷부분은 아람어를 사용한 것으로 보입니다. 번역하면 나의 하나님, 나의 하나님 어찌하여 나를 버리셨나이까 입니다.
왜, 하나님이 예수를 버렸을까요? 여기서 버림 받았다는 것은 하나님과의 순간적Momentary인 단절을 의미합니다. 예수는 영원 전부터 영원 후까지 아버지와 하나입니다. 그러나 전 인류의 죄악을 대속하여 죽는 이 순간 유일하게 하나님과의 단절을 경험합니다. 이것이 예수님의 가장 큰 고통이었습니다.
이는 죄인인 인류를 대표하여 법정에 선 것과 같은 것입니다.
그래서 늘 아버지라고 부르던 호칭을 공식적인 호칭인 하나님으로 부르고 있는 것입니다. 그렇게 한 번도 헤어진 적이 없는 아버지와 아들은 십자가 법정에서 판사와 피고로 만났고, 사형을 언도하고 언도 받은 것입니다.
만유의 항의
예수께서 십자가에 죽으신 후 몇 가지 특이한 현상이 나타납니다.
첫째로 성전에 있는 성소와 지성소를 나누는 휘장이 위에서부터 아래로 찢어졌습니다.
헤롯 성전에서 성소와 지성소를 나누는 휘장을 바벨론 커튼Babylonian Curtain이라고 하는데, 그 높이는 무려 30m(100ft)에 달합니다. 그런데 그것이 위에서부터 찢어졌다는 것은 성부께서 직접 지성소로 들어가는 커튼을 제거했다는 것을 의미합니다. 이것은 성막, 성전시대의 종결을 고하는 것으로, 이제부터 예수의 피를 힘입어 누구나 담대히 하나님 앞에 나갈 수 있는 은혜의 시대가 왔음을 알리는 것입니다.
둘째로 어둠이 임하고 땅이 진동하며 바위가 터졌습니다.
죄 없는 의인의 죽음에 만물이 반응합니다. 만물이 하나님 앞에 항의합니다. 의로우신 재판관이 의인을 죽음에 내몰다니요! 이것은 정의가 아닙니다. 왜 죄 없는 자가 죽어야 합니까?! 만일 예수께서 그냥 죽고 끝난다면 하나님의 공의에 큰 문제가 생깁니다. 의로운 자를 죽이셨으니 말입니다.
셋째로 무덤들이 열리며 자던 성도들이 부활합니다.
그래서 하나님은 예수를 죽은 자 가운데서 다시 살리신 것입니다. 성도들의 부활은 며칠 후 예수를 살리실 것에 대한 예고입니다. 마태는 의도적으로 살아난 성도들이 예수님의 부활 후에 거룩한 성, 예루살렘에 들어갔다고 보고 함으로 그들의 부활이 예수님으로 말미암은 것임을 강조합니다.
넷째로 백부장의 고백입니다.
예수님의 모든 처형과정과 나타난 이상 현상을 목격한 백부장은 이는 진실로 하나님의 아들이었도다 (54b) 라고 고백합니다. 이제는 이방인들도 본격적으로 예수님을 통하여 하나님의 거룩한 백성이 될 것에 대한 예고인 것입니다.
예수님의 십자가와 부활의 사건은 성전과 제사장 제도의 몰락을 의미합니다. 이제는 새로운 대제사장 예수님으로 말미암아 모든 열방의 백성이 거룩하신 하나님 앞에 나갈 수 있는 은혜를 입었습니다.
혈통이나 출신이 아닙니다. 어떤 율법의 행위로 말미암은 것도 아닙니다. 오직 하나님 앞에 나갈 수 있는 길을 열어 놓으신 예수의 보혈을 힘입어 갈 수 있습니다. 히브리서 기자는 다음과 같이 말합니다.
그러므로 우리에게 큰 대제사장이 계시니 승천하신 이 곧 하나님의 아들 예수시라 우리가 믿는 도리를 굳게 잡을지어다 우리에게 있는 대제사장은 우리의 연약함을 동정하지 못하실 이가 아니요 모든 일에 우리와 똑같이 시험을 받으신 이로되 죄는 없으시니라 그러므로 우리는 긍휼하심을 받고 때를 따라 돕는 은혜를 얻기 위하여 은혜의 보좌 앞에 담대히 나아갈 것이니라

비밀의 방이 커튼이 열렸습니다. 이제는 비밀의 방은 그곳을 침노하는 자의 것입니다.
이 특권을 놓치지 맙시다! 비밀의 방으로 달려가 구원의 은혜, 축복의 은혜를 누립시다.
The Death of Jesus
45 From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land. 46 About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).
47 When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “He’s calling Elijah.”
48 Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge. He filled it with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. 49 The rest said, “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to save him.”
50 And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.
51 At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split 52 and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. 53 They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people.
54 When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God!”
55 Many women were there, watching from a distance. They had followed Jesus from Galilee to care for his needs. 56 Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of Zebedee’s sons.
The golden house, where the Holy God dwells. All the fixtures in the room are covered in gold. This is a secret room where only the high priest can enter once a year. Even after the tabernacle period was over and the temple period after Solomon came, only the high priest could enter the secret room.
However, in today's scripture, the era of the tabernacle and the temple is finally ended and a new era begins.
The door to the secret room opens wide. But it wasn't done for free.
King's death It is the result of the amazing grace of the death of Jesus Christ, the King of Kings.
Matthew writes that darkness came on the earth (45) from the sixth to the ninth hour. The time when Jesus was crucified is the third o'clock (Mark 15:25), or 9 A.M. And since his time of death is the ninth hour, he was crucified and hung for about six hours. The sixth hour is 12 o'clock, noon and the ninth hour is 3 P.M. The darkness came at the brightest hour.
F.F. Bruce said that clarifying the time is a guarantee that the content of this event is a historical fact.
Because the Passover period is a full moon period, as some have argued, a solar eclipse cannot occur.
What does the sudden darkness of the whole earth mean? Is it not the heart of the Father who throw his son to death? Wouldn't it be a heart of anger toward those who insulted the innocent righteous and crucified them?
In the Bible, there are seven sentences that Jesus said on the cross, and these are called 7 last words on the Cross 架上七言.
Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing. (Luke 23:34)
I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise. (Luke 23:43)
Dear woman, here is your son. Here is your mother. (John 19:26 ~27)
“Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani” which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me" (Matthew 27:46)
I am thirsty. (John 19:28)
It is finished. (John 19:30)
Father, into your hands I commit my spirit. (Luke 23:46)
Of these, the fourth verse is recorded in today's scripture. This is a quote from Psalm 22:1.
The original scripture of the psalms is Eli Eli Rama Azavthani ’ê·lî ’ê·lî lā·māh ‘ă·zaḇ·tā·nî; אליאלי למה עזבתני. The verb is different from Matthew's. Perhaps the first part is in Hebrew and the latter part is in Aramaic. In translation, it is My God, my God, why have you forsaken me.
Why did God forsake Jesus? Forshaken here means a momentary break with God. Jesus is one with the Father from before eternity to after eternity. However, he is the only one to experience a break with God at this moment of death by redeeming for the sins of all mankind. This was Jesus' greatest pain.
It is like standing in court on behalf of all sinner mankind.
That is why He is calling the official title, God, in lieu of the title the Father He always called. The father and son, who had never separated, met as a judge and a defendant in the court of the cross, and the Son was sentenced to death by the Father.
All nature protest After Jesus died on the cross, several special phenomena appear.
First, the curtain separating the holy place and the most holy place in the temple was torn from top to bottom. The curtain separating the Holy Place from the Holy Place in Herod's Temple is called the Babylonian Curtain, and its height is as high as 30m (100ft). However, the fact that it was torn from above means that the Father himself removed the curtain that entered the Holy of Holies. This is announcing the end of the tabernacle and temple era, and it is an announcement that the age of grace has come in which anyone can boldly go before God through the blood of Jesus.
Secondly, darkness came, the ground vibrated, and the rocks burst. All nature respond to the death of the innocent righteous man. All nature protest before God. The righteous judge puts the righteous to death! This is not right. Why must an innocent person die?! If Jesus just dies and ends, there is a big problem with God's justice. Because God killed the righteous.
Third, the tombs were opened and the saints who were sleeping were resurrected.
That is why God raised Jesus from the dead. The resurrection of the saints is an advance notice that Jesus will be raised a few days later. Matthew stressed intentionally that the saints resurrected had entered Jerusalem, the holy city alive after Jesus' resurrection, to emphasize their resurrection was caused by Jesus.
Fourth is the centurion's confession. The centurion, who witnessed all the executions of Jesus and the abnormalities that appeared, confesses “Surely he was the Son of God!” (54b). Now it is an advance notice that even Gentiles will become God's holy people through Jesus in earnest.
The events of Jesus' cross and resurrection signify the collapse of the temple and the priestly system. Now, through the new high priest Jesus, the people of all nations have received the grace to go before the holy God.
It is not of ancestry or origin. It is not through any act of the law. Only go through the blood of Jesus, who has opened the way to go before God. The writer of Hebrews says:
Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are -- yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need
(Hebrews 4:14~16)
The curtain of the secret room opened. Now the secret room belongs to those who invade it.
