(29) 그 날 환난 후에 즉시 해가 어두워지며 달이 빛을 내지 아니하며 별들이 하늘에서 떨어지며 하늘의 권능들이 흔들리리라
(30) 그 때에 인자의 징조가 하늘에서 보이겠고 그 때에 땅의 모든 족속들이 통곡하며 그들이 인자가 구름을 타고 능력과 큰 영광으로 오는 것을 보리라 (31) 그가 큰 나팔소리와 함께 천사들을 보내리니 그들이 그의 택하신 자들을 하늘 이 끝에서 저 끝까지 사방에서 모으리라
(32) 무화과나무의 비유를 배우라 그 가지가 연하여지고 잎사귀를 내면 여름이 가까운 줄을 아나니 (33) 이와 같이 너희도 이 모든 일을 보거든 인자가 가까이 곧 문 앞에 이른 줄 알라 (34) 내가 진실로 너희에게 말하노니 이 세대가 지나가기 전에 이 일이 다 일어나리라
(35) 천지는 없어질지언정 내 말은 없어지지 아니하리라
지난 9일 뉴욕 한 백화점 부근에서 한국계 미국인 낸시 도(80) 할머니가 노숙자에게 아무 이유 없는 폭행을 당해 그 자리에서 정신을 잃고 쓰러지는 사건이 발생했습니다. 그 노숙자는 이미 몇 차례 비슷한 전과가 있는 사람으로, 이번 사건으로 65세 이상 노인에 대한 2급 폭력 혐의로 기소되었고, 이는 최대 징역 7년에 이를 수 있는 중범죄라고 합니다.
하지만 도 할머니는 ABC와의 인터뷰에서 자신은 기독교인으로 평화를 사랑하기에, 그를 용서한다고 말했습니다. 한편으로는 답답한 마음이 들었지만, 동시에 마음이 뭉클 하는 기사였습니다.
한편, 지난 16일(화) 애틀란타에서는 3개의 마사지 업소에서 총 8명의 사망자를 낸 연쇄총격 사건이 벌어졌습니다. 로버트 에런 롱(21)이라는 백인 남성이 이러한 범죄를 저질렀는데, 코로나19과 관련된 아시안 혐오범죄로 추정됩니다. 8명의 사망자 중 7명은 여성이고, 그 중에 6명이 아시안이라는 사실이 이러한 합리적 추측을 하게 합니다. 더욱 안타까운 것은 사망자 중 4명이 한국계 여성이라는 것입니다.
이러한 뉴스를 대할 때마다 주님이 말씀하신 말세가 맞다 는 생각이 듭니다.
민족이 민족을 나라가 나라를 대적하여 일어나겠고(7),
그 때에 많은 사람이 실족하게 되어 서로 잡아 주고 서로 미워하겠으며(10)
아마도 앞으로 점점 이러한 현상은 더욱 심해질 것이라고 생각합니다. 불과 수십 년 전만 해도 살인에는 반드시 살해동기가 있었는데, 현대에는 특별한 동기 없이도 불특정 다수를 쉽게 살해하는 사건들이 자주 일어난다고 합니다. 정말 말세입니다.
전 우주적인 징조들 (29~31절)
앞서 말한 사건들이 우리 인생들 가운데 나타날 말세의 징조라면, 주님은 오늘 본문에서 마지막 날, 심판의 날, 주님의 재림의 날 일어날 우주적인 징조에 대해서 말씀하십니다.
그날 환난 후에(29a)는 예루살렘의 멸망을 전후한 시점을 말씀 하십니다.
어떤 학자는 본문도 예루살렘의 멸망을 예언하신 것이라고 해석하기도 합니다. 그 이유는 선지서에 등장한 하늘의 권능이 흔들린다(29b) 는 표현은 이스라엘을 괴롭혔던 제국들의 멸망을 상징한 묵시적 표현이었고, 예수님은 그것을 인용하여 예루살렘의 멸망을 예언하신 것이라는 해석입니다.
하지만 본문에 분명하게 그날 환난 후에 라고 말씀 하셨습니다. 그날 환난은 바로 예루살렘이 멸망한 직후임이 분명합니다. 그리고 즉시 하늘의 징조들이 시작됩니다.
물론 역사적으로 아직까지도 주님은 오시지 않고 있습니다. 그러면 즉시 시작된 하늘의 징조는 어떻게 해석을 해야 할까요? 그날 환난은 예루살렘의 멸망을 말함과 동시에 오버랩되어 예루살렘 멸망과 비슷한, 그러나 전세계적인 마지막 대환난을 의미하는 것으로 볼 수 있습니다.
예루살렘의 멸망을 시작으로 말세가 시작되었다고 볼 수 있습니다.
그리고 마지막 대환난이 끝나는 즉시 예수님의 재림이 시작될 것입니다.
그 때 나타날 징조는 다음과 같습니다.
해와 달이 어두워져 빛을 내지 않고, 하늘에서 별들이 떨어질 것입니다. 미래학자들 중에 인류의 멸망이 소행성 충돌과 같은 사건으로 일어날 수 있다고 보는 사람들도 있습니다. 분명히 우주적인 엄청난 사건이 벌어질 것으로 보입니다.
그 때에 인자의 징조가 보일 것입니다. 과연 인자의 징조는 무엇일까요?
많은 해석들이 난무하지만 앞서 말씀 하신 하늘의 징조와 인자가 구름을 타고 오시는 일 자체가 바로 인자의 징조입니다. 그러므로 이러한 인장의 징조는 전세계 모든 인류가 알 수 있습니다.
그리고 본능적으로 땅의 모든 족속이 후회를 하게 될 것입니다.
이것은 회개의 눈물이 아닌, 이미 구원을 얻기에 늦어버린 후회와 억울함의 통곡일 것입니다.
후회하는 그 순간 전인류가 인자, 예수께서 구름을 타고 능력과 큰 영광으로 오는 것을 보게 됩니다(30).
이것은 신구약 성경이 공통적으로 예언하는 바입니다.[1]
주님은 큰 나팔 소리와 함께 천사들을 보내어 택하신 자들을 온 세계에서 모으실 것(31)입니다.
유대묵시 문학에서 나팔 소리는 천사에 의해 심판을 선포하는 것을 의미합니다.
천지는 없어질지언정(32~35절)
요즘 저는 계절 알러지로 무척 고생 중입니다. 신기하게도 딱 이 시즌만 되면 몸이 알아서 반응을 합니다.
속으로 변함 없이 봄이 왔구나! 라고 생각을 합니다. 이와 마찬가지로 주님의 오심도 어느 정도 예측할 수 있다는 것입니다.
물론 내일 본문에서 자세하게 살펴보겠지만, 마지막 심판의 날에 대한 정확한 일시는 오직 하늘 아버지만 알고 있습니다. 예수님은 정확한 일시가 아닌 대략적인 흐름을 말씀하신 것입니다. 몇 월 몇 일에 무화과 나무가 열린다는 것은 알 수 없지만, 무화과 나뭇 잎이 풍성해지면 여름이 온 것이고, 곧 있으면 열매가 열리겠구나 라고 예측할 수 있는 것을 비유하신 것입니다.
이처럼 주님이 말씀 하신 세상이 점점 악해짐과 하늘 권능의 흔들림과 같은 자연 현상을 목격하면, 주님의 재림이 얼마 남지 않았음을 심각하게 느끼라는 경고(33)입니다.
주님은 천지가 없어질지언정 내 말은 없어지지 아니하리라(35)라는 확실한 말씀으로 확증을 하십니다.
이 세대가 지나가기 전에 이 일이 다 일어나리라(34)라는 말씀이 가장 어렵습니다.
예루살렘의 멸망은 말씀하신 대로 그대로 이루어졌습니다. 엊그제 설명한 것처럼 주님의 예언은 원근법적입니다. 가깝게는 지엽적, 시대적, 역사적인 사건을 말씀 하신 것입니다.
하지만 동시에 전 우주적, 인류적, 종말적인 사건을 알려주십니다.
분명한 것은 내가 살아서 우주적 종말, 곧 주님의 재림을 통해서 주님을 맞이하든, 아니면 내가 개인적인 죽음을 통해서든 반드시 주님을 만나게 될 것이라는 사실입니다.
마지막 날의 징조들을 보면서, 우리는 더욱 주님의 말씀에 대한 확신을 가져야 합니다.
천지는 없어져도 주의 말씀은 반드시 이루어집니다. 그래서 말씀이 소망이 됩니다.
속히 오셔서 이 땅의 모든 불의와 악을 고치시고, 선택하신 백성들을 구원하소서!

29 “Immediately after the distress of those days
“‘the sun will be darkened,
and the moon will not give its light;
the stars will fall from the sky,
and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’
30 “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. 31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.
32 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 33 Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door. 34 Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
On the 9th, near a department store in New York, a Korean-American Nancy Do (80), was assaulted by a homeless man for no reason, causing her faint and collapse on the spot. The homeless man already has several similar criminal records, and in this case, he has been charged with second-degree violence against an elderly person aged 65 or older, which is said to be a felony crime that can be sentenced to seven years in prison.
Still, the grandmother Do told ABC in an interview, she forgave him because she was a Christian and she loves peace. On the one hand, I felt frustrated, but at the same time, it touched my heart.
Meanwhile, on the 16th (Tue) in Atlanta, a series of shootings took place in three massage parlors, killing a total of eight people. A white man named Robert Aaron Long, 21, committed this crime, which is believed to be an Asian hate crime related to COVID-19. The fact that 7 of the 8 deaths are women and 6 of them are Asian makes this reasonable speculation. Even worse, four of the dead were Korean women.
Whenever I face with this kind of news, I feel that the Last days the Lord said are right.
Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom (7),
At that time, many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other (10).
Perhaps in the future, this phenomenon will become more and more severe. Just a few decades ago, murder must have a motive for murder, but it is said that nowadays, without special motives, unspecified masses are easily killed. It's really the end times.
Universal signs (verses 29-31) If the aforementioned events are the signs of the end times that will appear in our lives, the Lord speaks of the universal signs that will take place in the last days, the day of judgment, and the day of His Second Coming in today's scripture.
Immediately after the distress of those days (29a), it refers to the point of time before and after the destruction of Jerusalem.
Some scholars interpret this passage as foretelling the destruction of Jerusalem. The reason is that the expression that the heavenly bodies will be shaken (29b) was an apocalyptic expression that symbolized the destruction of the empires that afflicted Israel, and it is interpreted that Jesus quoted it and predicted the destruction of Jerusalem.
But in this passage he clearly said “immediately after the distress of those days.” It is clear that the distress of those days was just after Jerusalem's destruction. And immediately the signs of heaven begin.
Of course, historically, the Lord has not yet come. Then, how do we interpret the signs of heaven that began immediately? The distress of those days can be referring to the destruction of Jerusalem and at the same time, referring to the last great tribulation worldwide that is similar to the destruction of Jerusalem.
It can be said that the end times began with the fall of Jerusalem.
And as soon as the last great tribulation is over, the Second Coming of Jesus will begin.
The signs that will appear at that time are as follows:
The sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky. Some futurologists believe that the destruction of humanity could be caused by events such as an asteroid impact. Obviously, a cosmic event is going to happen.
Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear. What is the sign of the Son of Man?
There are many interpretations, but the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky and the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky are the sign of the Son of Man. Therefore, the sign of Son of Man can be known to all mankind around the world.
And instinctively all the tribes of the earth will regret it.
This will not be tears of repentance, but weeping of regret and resentment that are already too late to be saved.
At that moment of regret, all humanity sees the Son of Man, Jesus, coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory (30).
This is a common prophesy in the Old and New Testaments.
The Lord will send angels with a loud trumpet call and they will gather his elect from all over the world (31).
In apocalyptic literature, the sound of a trumpet means the declaration of judgment by an angel.
Heaven and earth will pass away (verses 32-35) Nowadays, I am suffering from seasonal allergy. Interestingly, just this season, the body reacts on its own.
I can feel that Spring has finally come! Likewise, the coming of the Lord can be predicted to some extent.
Of course, we will go over in detail tomorrow’s scripture, only Heavenly Father knows the exact date and time for the day of the Last Judgment. Jesus was mentioning about the approximate, not the exact date and time. It is metaphor that the exact date the fig tree will bear fruits is not known, but when the fig tree leaves are abundant, summer has come, and knows soon it will bear fruits.
This is a warning (33) to seriously feel that the Lord's Second Coming is near when we witness natural phenomena such as the shaking of heavenly power and the world becoming increasingly evil.
The Lord confirms with the sure words that Heaven and earth will pass away, but my Words will never pass away (35).
It is the most difficult to interpret that this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened (34).
Jerusalem's destruction came as it was said. As I explained the day before yesterday, the Lord's prophecy is perspective. Near time, He is referring to local and historical events. But at the same time, He is referring to universal, human and apocalyptic events.
What is clear is that whether I live to meet the Lord through the cosmic end, the Second Coming of the Lord, or through my personal death, I will surely meet the Lord.
Looking at the signs of the Last days, we should be more confident in the Words of the Lord.
Even if Heaven and earth disappear, the Word of the Lord will surely come true. So the Word becomes Hope.
Come quickly, heal all injustices and evils in this land, and save your chosen people!
