부활 논쟁 (막 12:18-27; 눅 20:27-40)
(23) 부활이 없다 하는 사두개인들이 그 날 예수께 와서 물어 이르되
(24) 선생님이여 모세가 일렀으되 사람이 만일 자식이 없이 죽으면 그 동생이 그 아내에게 장가 들어 형을 위하여 상속자를 세울지니라 하였나이다
(25) 우리 중에 칠 형제가 있었는데 맏이가 장가 들었다가 죽어 상속자가 없으므로 그 아내를 그 동생에게 물려 주고
(26) 그 둘째와 셋째로 일곱째까지 그렇게 하다가
(27) 최후에 그 여자도 죽었나이다
(28) 그런즉 그들이 다 그를 취하였으니 부활 때에 일곱 중의 누구의 아내가 되리이까
(29) 예수께서 대답하여 이르시되 너희가 성경도, 하나님의 능력도 알지 못하는 고로 오해하였도다
(30) 부활 때에는 장가도 아니 가고 시집도 아니 가고 하늘에 있는 천사들과 같으니라
(31) 죽은 자의 부활을 논할진대 하나님이 너희에게 말씀하신 바
(32) 나는 아브라함의 하나님이요 이삭의 하나님이요 야곱의 하나님이로라 하신 것을 읽어 보지 못하였느냐 하나님은 죽은 자의 하나님이 아니요 살아 있는 자의 하나님이시니라 하시니
(33) 무리가 듣고 그의 가르치심에 놀라더라
예전에 코끼리를 냉장고에 집어 넣는 방법이라는 우스운 글을 읽은 적이 있습니다.
공대생들 개그의 일종이라고 하는데, 다음과 같습니다.
냉장고 문을 연다.
코끼리를 냉장고에 넣는다.
냉장고 문을 닫는다.
이외에도 교수 - 조교한테 시킨다, 의사 - 인턴한테 시킨다, 경찰 - 토끼를 잡고 코끼리라고 진술하게 하고 냉장고에 넣는다, 경영학자 - 동물원 이름을 냉장고로 바꾼 뒤, 냉장고 속 코끼리라며 홍보한다, 홈쇼핑 - “지금 냉장고를 구매하시는 분들께 특별히 코끼리를 넣어 배송해드립니다!” 등이 있습니다.
사실 코끼리를 냉장고에 넣는 방법은 간단합니다. 평소에 우리가 생각하는 냉장고에 대한 고정관념만 버리면 됩니다. 가정 냉장고 사이즈 말입니다. 식품 유통업체의 경우 생산품을 저장하는 건물자체가 냉장고인 경우도 있습니다.
오늘 본문에 등장하는 사두개인들은 자신들만의 고정관념에 사로잡혀 있는 자들입니다.
예수님이 사역할 당시 대표적인 대적자들은 바리새인이었습니다. 그리고 그들 옆에 헤롯당원과 사두개인들이 제2와 제3의 대적자들이었습니다. 어제 본문에 등장했던 헤롯당원들과 바리새인들의 관계처럼 사두개인 역시 바리새인들과는 절대로 친한 관계가 아니었습니다.
사두개인들은 사독계열(왕상 1:38) 출신의 사람들로 대부분 제사장들입니다. 이들은 소수이지만 유대의 행정, 정치, 종교적 최고기관인 산헤드린공의회의 중심적 구성원으로 로마의 통치에 협력하며 자신들의 기득권을 지키는 자들이었습니다.
유대인들은 구약 성경을 전통적으로 율법서(토라, Torah, תורה), 예언서(네비임, Nevi'im, נביאים), 성문서(케투빔, Ketuvim, כתובים)로 분류합니다. 유대교 성경의 이름이 타나크Tanakh ך"תנ 인데, 바로 이 세 분류명의 첫 글자를 따서 지은 것입니다.
사두개인들은 이중에서 모세오경인 토라(율법서) 만을 성경으로 인정했습니다. 그리고 내세, 부활, 천사, 심지어 하나님의 섭리까지도 부인하는 사람들이었습니다. 그러니 당연히 바리새인들과는 종교적으로 맞지 않을 수 밖에 없습니다.
오늘 본문에는 기록되어 있지 않지만 누가는 같은 사건을 기록한 본문에서 서기관 중 어떤 이들이 말하되 선생님 잘 말씀하셨나이다(눅 20:39)라고 기록하고 있습니다. 바리새파 서기관들이 자신들과 늘 부활의 논쟁을 하던 사두개인들을 예수께서 통쾌하게 물리치는 모습에 자신의 본분(?)을 잠시 잊고 예수를 칭찬한 것입니다. 적어도 바리새인들은 성경이 말하는 부활을 믿었습니다.
이처럼 자신들의 오만과 편견, 고집에 사로잡혀 있는 기득권층인 사두개인들이 예수를 붙잡기 위해 가지고 온 질문은 소위 수혼법 또는 계대결혼Levirate에 대한 질문이었습니다. 그들은 그들이 신봉하는 모세의 명령(신 25:5)을 들어 질문합니다. 형제가 자녀가 없이 죽으면 형제가 대신 대를 잇는 역할을 하는 법입니다. 그런데 만일 7형제가 있어 장남이 결혼 후 자녀가 없이 죽자 둘째가 형수와 결혼을 했는데, 그 역시 죽고, 그렇게 막내 동생에까지 이르게 되면, 나중에 부활했을 때 그녀는 누구의 아내가 되느냐? 라는 질문입니다. 만일 그들의 생각대로라면 정말 곤란한 상황입니다. 그러니 부활은 있어서는 안 된다 라는 것이 그들이 말하고 싶은 것입니다.
이에 예수님은 너희가 성경도, 하나님의 능력도 알지 못하는 고로 오해하였도다(29)라고 답변하십니다. 쉽게 말하면 그들은 성경과 하나님에 대해 너무도 무식했던 것입니다. 오해하였도다 라는 원어의 의미는 너희가 너희 자신을 위하여 스스로 기만하고 있다 는 의미입니다.
서론의 표현을 빌리자면 자신의 코딱지만한 냉장고 안에 들어가지 못하는 것은 모두 부정하는 셈입니다.
그러니 부활도 천사도 하나님의 능력도 제대로 알 수가 없는 것입니다.
예수님은 천국과 부활에 관련된 제대로 된 지식(30-32)을 제공하십니다.
부활 때에는 우리의 존재가 천사와 같은 존재가 되기에 시집 장가가는 일이 없습니다.
천국은 더 이상 3차원의 상식과 법칙만 통하는 공간이 아니라는 것입니다. 성경에서 유추할 수 있는 부활 후 육신의 상태는 예수님이 부활하신 후 보여주신 상태라고 할 수 있습니다. 분명히 눈에 보이고 만져지는 육체가 있어, 먹기도 하고 마시기도 하지만, 동시에 이 3차원의 공간에 영향을 받지 않는 그런 특별한 육체입니다. 소위 부활체 라고 말합니다.
또한 사두개인들은 하나님의 능력을 자신들의 작은 냉장고 수준에서 이해한 것이 큰 잘못이었습니다.
하나님은 온 우주를 창조하신 전능하신 분입니다. 그 창조에는 생명과 시간도 포함됩니다. 그러므로 하나님은 시간의 제한을 받는 분이 아니며, 원하시면 모든 피조물에게 영생을 주실 수 있는 분입니다.
그래서 누가는 하나님에게는 모든 사람이 살았느니라(눅 20:38b)라는 말씀을 추가하고 있습니다.
예수님은 성부께서 나는 아브라함, 이삭, 야곱의 하나님이다 라고 과거시제가 아닌 현재 시제를 사용하신 것에 주목합니다. 이것은 족장들이 여전히 하나님 앞에 살아서 존재한다는 의미임을 설명해주십니다.
영원하신 하나님과 영원토록 교제를 나누기 위해서는 구원 받은 성도들 역시 영원한 존재가 되어야 하는 것입니다.
모든 인류는 마지막 날 부활을 할 것입니다.
하지만 예수를 구주로 믿는 자들은 영생과 천국의 부활로, 예수를 믿지 않은 자들은 영벌과 지옥의 부활을 합니다. 그러므로 지금 이 땅을 살아가는 이 시간만이 영생과 영벌을 선택할 수 있는 유일한 기회입니다. 어떻게 하시겠습니까?
내 작은 냉장고에 들어가지 않는 것들에 대해서 존재 자체를 부정하시겠습니까?
아니면 내 작은 냉장고를 버리고 온 우주보다 큰 하나님의 냉장고를 경험하시겠습니까?
하나님의 냉장고에는 코끼리뿐 아니라 온 피조세계와 우주, 시간과 영원까지도 들어 갈 수 있습니다.
이제 그만 나만의 작은 냉장고를 바꿔야 하지 않을 까요?
더 늦기 전에 말입니다.
Marriage at the Resurrection
23 That same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question. 24 “Teacher,” they said, “Moses told us that if a man dies without having children, his brother must marry the widow and raise up offspring for him. 25 Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died, and since he had no children, he left his wife to his brother. 26 The same thing happened to the second and third brother, right on down to the seventh. 27 Finally, the woman died. 28 Now then, at the resurrection, whose wife will she be of the seven, since all of them were married to her?”
29 Jesus replied, “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. 30 At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. 31 But about the resurrection of the dead—have you not read what God said to you, 32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.”
33 When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at his teaching.
I read a funny story about how to put an elephant in a refrigerator.
It is a kind of comedy for engineering students, and it is as follows.

Put the elephant in the refrigerator.
Close the refrigerator door.

In fact, it's easy to put an elephant in a refrigerator. All we have to do is throw away the stereotypes of refrigerators that we usually think of. The size of a home refrigerator. In the case of food distributors, the building itself that stores products is a refrigerator.
The Sadducees in today's scripture are those who are obsessed with their own stereotypes.
At the time of Jesus' ministry, the representative adversaries were the Pharisees. And next to them, Herodian and Sadducees were the second and third adversaries. Like the relationship between the Herodian and the Pharisees that appeared in yesterday scripture, the Sadducees were never close to the Pharisees.
The Sadducees come from the Zadok family (1 Kings 1:38) and are mostly priests. They are a minority, but central members of the Council of the Sanhedrin, the supreme administrative, political and religious institution of Judea, cooperating in Roman rule and defending their vested interests.
The Jews traditionally classify the Old Testament into the Torah (Torah, תורה), the Prophetic (Nevi'im, נביאים), and the Sacred Scriptures (Ketuvim, כתובים). The Jewish Bible's name is Tanakh ך"תנ, which is named after the first letters of these three classifications.
Among them, the Sadducees recognized only the Torah, the Pentateuch of Moses, as the Bible. And they were people who denied the afterlife, the resurrection, the angels, and even the providence of God. So, they are religiously incompatible with the Pharisees.
Although it is not recorded in today's scripture, Luke wrote the same incident in the scripture, Some of the teachers of the law responded, "Well said, teacher!" (Luke 20:39). The Pharisees' teachers of the law praised Jesus forgetting their duty (?) for a moment when Jesus was thrilled to defeat the Sadducees, who had always argued about the resurrection with them. At least the Pharisees believed in what the Bible says about resurrection.
The question that the Sadducees, who were vested in their arrogance, prejudice, and stubbornness, brought to arrest Jesus was the question of the so-called law of marriage or Levirate. They asked questions about Moses' command (Deut. 25:5) they believe in. When a brother dies without children, the brother takes over. However, if there are 7 brothers, the eldest son died without children after marriage, and the second married his sister-in-law, he also died, and if it leads to her youngest brother, whose wife will she be when she is resurrected later? This is a question. It's a really difficult situation for them. So what they want to say is that there must be no resurrection.
To this, Jesus replied that you are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God (29). In short, they were so ignorant of the Bible and God. The original word “in error” means that you are deceived yourself for your own sake.
To use the introductory expression, it denies anything that cannot fit into one's small refrigerator.
Therefore, neither the resurrection, the angel, nor the power of God can be properly known.
Jesus provides proper knowledge (30-32) related to heaven and resurrection.
At the resurrection, people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in Heaven.
Heaven is no longer a space where only three-dimensional common sense and laws applied. The state of the body after resurrection that can be inferred from the Bible could be the state that Jesus showed after resurrection. There is a body that can be seen and touched, it is a special body that eats and drinks, but at the same time is not affected by this three-dimensional space. It is a so-called resurrection body.
It was also a great mistake for the Sadducees to understand God's power at the level of their small refrigerators.
God is the Almighty who created the whole universe. Its creation also includes life and time. Therefore, God is not the one who is limited by time, and He is the one who can give eternal life to all creation if He wants.
So Luke added “for to Him all are alive” (Luke 20:38b).
Jesus noted that the Father used the present tense, not the past, “I am the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob”. This explains that the patriarchs still live and exist before God.
In order to have fellowship with the eternal God forever, the saved saints must also become eternal beings.
All mankind will be resurrected on the last day.
However, those who believe in Jesus as Savior will have eternal life and resurrection of Heaven, and those who do not believe in Jesus will have eternal punishment and resurrection of Hell. Therefore, this time of living on this earth is the only opportunity to choose eternal life and eternal punishment. What would you do?
Would you deny the existence of things that don't fit in your little fridge?
Or would you throw away your little fridge and experience God's fridge bigger than the whole universe?
In God's refrigerator, not only elephant, but also the whole creation, universe, time and eternity can enter.
Shouldn't I change my own little refrigerator?
Before it's too late.
