산상수훈의 결론입니다. 본문을 거짓선지자, 천국 심판, 반석 위에 세운 집 세가지 비유로 생각할 수 있지만, 사실은 하나로 연결된 산상수훈의 결론적인 가르침입니다. 오늘 설교 제목은 지혜로운 사람 입니다. 왜냐하면 거짓 선지자를 구별하는 것, 아버지의 뜻대로 행하는 것, 반석 위에 집을 짓는 것은 지혜로운 자의 특징이기 때문입니다. 산상수훈 설교의 결론으로서 지혜로운 사람이 어떤 사람인지에 대해서 살펴봅시다.
거짓 선지자를 구별하는 자 (15-20절)
선지자는 히브리어로 נביא (나비)nabi이고, 그 의미는 신비로운 말을 한다, 하나님의 뜻을 받아 선포한다 라는 의미입니다. 헬라어로는 프로페테스prophetes 인데, 앞으로 말을 낸다 라는 의미로 하나님의 대언자 를 의미합니다. 즉 선지자는 하나님께 말씀을 받아서 전하는 대언자인 것입니다.
그러므로 거짓 선지자는 하나님의 말씀을 받지도 않았으면서, 자신의 생각이나 뜻을 마치 하나님의 말씀인양 전하는 자입니다. 현대로 치면 교리적인 문제가 있는 목회자라 할 수 있습니다.
예수님은 이러한 자를 양의 옷을 입고, 속에는 노략하는 이리가 들어 있는 자들이라고 말씀 하셨습니다. 이것은 실제적인 비유입니다. 이스라엘 목동들은 양을 지킬 때 밤에 양의 가죽을 쓰고 양을 지켰습니다. 또한 엘리사가 가졌던 엘리야의 겉 옷(왕상 19:13)이나, 세례 요한 약대 털 옷(막 1:6)은 이후 선지자 복장의 정석이 되었습니다. 이후에 가짜 선지자들 역시 양털을 입고 활동했습니다.
그러므로 예수님의 말씀의 의미는 거짓 선지자들 역시 겉모습은 참선지자와 똑같다는 것입니다.
그러면 어떻게 거짓 선지자를 구별할 수 있을까요? 마틴 로이드 존스 Martyn Lloyd-Jones목사는 거짓 선지자의 특징을 하나님의 공의와 진노에 대해 침묵한다, 심판과 지옥에 대해 침묵한다, 죄의 사악성에 대해 침묵한다, 회개의 필요성에 대해 침묵한다, 성결한 생활에 대해 침묵한다, 자기 기만의 위험성에 대해 침묵한다 라고 말했습니다. 한마디로 표현하면 거짓 선지자는 하나님의 뜻에 따라 말씀을 전하는 자가 아닌 인간이 듣기 좋은 말만 골라서 하는 사람인 것입니다.
하지만 성경을 보면 진짜 하나님의 종은 그 누구 하나 사람들이 듣기 편한 메시지를 전한 자는 없습니다. 예수님은 거짓 선지자를 열매로 알라는 쓴소리를 하십니다. 하나님이 원하시는 좋은 열매를 맺지 못하는 자는 찍혀 불에 던져진다는 무서운 말씀을 하십니다. 이것은 종말론적인 심판에 대한 메시지입니다.
오늘 등장하는 세가지 비유의 공통점은 모두 심판이 반드시 있을 것을 전제로 합니다. 결국 산상수훈은 종말론적인 예수님의 선포인 것입니다.
하늘 아버지의 뜻대로 행하는 자 (21-23절)
앞선 주님의 경고가 크리스천 지도자에 대한 경고라면, 두 번째는 모든 성도들에 해당하는 경고입니다.
두 번째 지혜로운 사람의 특징은 하늘 아버지의 뜻대로 행하는 자입니다.
예수님은 예수님께 주여! 주여! 하는 자마다 다 천국에 들어 갈 것이 아니라 고 말씀 하십니다. 심지어 그러한 자들은 이 땅에서 선지자 노릇과 주의 이름으로 귀신까지 쫓아내며 많은 권능도 행했음(v.22) 을 알 수 있습니다. 정리하자면 입술의 고백도 있고, 신앙의 능력까지도 나타났다는 것입니다.
그런데 문제는 주님이 그들을 전혀 모르신다고 말씀 하십니다.
왜냐하면 그들은 아버지의 뜻대로 행하지 않았기 때문입니다.
그렇다면 아버지의 뜻대로 행하는 것이 과연 무엇일까요?
그것은 앞선 비유에서 나온 아름다운 열매를 맺는 것과 같은 것입니다. 아름다운 열매 맺는 것이 곧 아버지의 뜻대로 행하는 것입니다. 그럼 도대체 아름다운 열매, 아버지의 뜻대로 행하는 그것이 뭐냔 말이죠? 이에 대해서는 세 번째 지혜로운 사람의 특징을 살펴보면서 정리 하겠습니다.
여기서 짚고 싶은 것은 아버지 뜻대로 행하는 것은 결코 입으로 주여! 주여!를 외치는 것, 주의 이름으로 선지자 노릇 하는 것, 주의 이름으로 귀신을 쫓아 내고, 권능을 행하는 것이 아니라는 사실입니다.
물론 위 3가지는 아버지의 뜻대로 행하는 자에게 얼마든지 나타날 수 있는 능력이고, 결과입니다. 하지만 그러한 일들이 벌어진다고 해서 모두 하나님 아버지의 뜻대로 행하는 자는 아니라는 것입니다.
반석 위에 집을 짓는 자 (24-27절)
세 번째 지혜로운 사람의 특징은 반석 위에 집을 짓는 사람입니다. 이 비유는 너무 실제적입니다.
어떤 건물을 지을 때 기초가 튼튼하지 못하면 십중팔구는 지진이나 약간의 위기에도 건물이 붕괴될 것입니다. 예수님의 비유에서 비, 창수, 바람 세가지 재난은 삶에 시시때때로 불어 닥치는 환난을 합니다. 그러나 궁극적으로는 마지막 날 닥칠 완전한 심판을 의미하는 것입니다. 피할 수 없는 모든 인류가 받아야 할 심판으로 개인적으로는 죽음이고, 전인류적으로는 종말(예수님의 재림)입니다.
그러면 반석 위에 집을 짓는 것은 무엇일까요? 결국 이것이 아름다운 열매를 맺는 것이고, 하늘 아버지의 뜻대로 행하는 것입니다. 위의 3가지 지혜로운 자의 특징은 결국 하나인 것입니다.
그것이 무엇인가요? 24절에 잘 나와있습니다. 나의 이 말을 듣고 행하는 자 입니다.
첫 번째 지혜로운 사람의 특징은 거짓 선지자를 구별하는 것인데, 구별하는 방법이 열매입니다.
그 열매는 말씀에 대한 믿음입니다. 그러므로 말씀을 들어야 합니다. 그래서 교리가 먼저입니다. 그러나 교리만 있으면 그것은 죽은 믿음입니다. 반드시 행함이 있어야 합니다. 그러나 행함만 있고 교리가 없는 것 역시 아무 의미가 없습니다. 마틴 루터는 예수를 믿지 않으면서 착한 일을 하는 행위는 화려한 악덕이다 라고 말했습니다. 자신의 선행이나 자신의 의를 기반으로 무엇인가를 쌓는 것을 사상누각 이라고 합니다. 모래 위 집은 반드시 무너집니다. 이 땅에서 안 무너지면, 그날, 마지막 날, 비가 내리고 창수, 바람 부는 날, 곧 심판의 날에 무너질 것입니다.
그러므로 먼저 예수님 말씀에 귀를 기울여야 합니다. 그리고 순종으로서의 삶이 따라야 하는 것입니다. 예수님은 말씀 하십니다. 반석 위에 집을 짓는 자가 지혜로운 사람이라고, 그러면 반석은 무엇입니까?
이 닦아 둔 것 외에 능히 다른 터를 닦아 둘 자가 없으니 이 터는 곧 예수 그리스도라(고전 3:11)
그렇습니다. 반석은 예수님의 말씀, 좁게는 산상수훈의 말씀, 근본적으로는 오직 예수 그리스도십니다.
산상수훈의 결론입니다. 24절 읽어봅시다. 말씀에 입각한 삶! 이게 진짜입니다! 내가 좋아서 하는 것? 예수님은 모른다고 하십니다. 그저 자기만족일 뿐입니다. 마지막 때를 살아가는 우리 성도들에게 하나님이 원하는 것은 지혜로운 사람이 되는 것입니다. 거짓 선지자를 구별하고, 아름다운 열매를 맺으며, 반석 위에 집을 짓는 자가 지혜로운 사람입니다. 결국 예수님의 말씀을 먼저 듣고, 들었으면 그대로 행하는 자입니다. 우리 모두 예수 그리스도의 반석 위에 거룩한 집을 짓는 자가 됩시다!
True and False Prophets
15“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.
True and False Disciples
21“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
The Wise and Foolish Builders
24“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
28When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.
This is the conclusion of the Sermon on the Mount. We can consider that the scripture is consisted of three parables of false prophets, heavenly judgment, and of the house built on the rock. But the truth is, this is the concluding teaching of the Sermon on the Mount as one. The title of today’s sermon is a wise person. Because distinguishing false prophets, doing the Father's will, and building a house on the rock are the hallmarks of the wise. As the conclusion of the Sermon on the Mount, let's take a look at who the wise person is.
The One Who Sets Apart False Prophets (verses 15-20)
The prophet in Hebrew is נביא (navi), which means to speak mysterious words, or to receive and proclaim the will of God. In Greek, it is prophetes, which means to foretell the future, meaning the prophet of God. In other words, a prophet is someone who receives and delivers the words from God.
Therefore, false prophets are those who convey their thoughts or will as if they were the word of God, although they did not receive the Word from God. In modern times, it can be said this would be a pastor with doctrinal problems (theologically).
Jesus said that “they come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.” This is a practical analogy. When the Israeli shepherds kept the sheep, they used to wear sheepskin at night to keep them. In addition, Elijah's cloak which Elisha had (1 Kings 19:13) and John the Baptist's robe (Mark 1:6), became the standard for the prophetic dress. Later, false prophets also wore sheep’s clothing to deceive.
Therefore, the meaning of Jesus' words is that false prophets also have the same appearance as the true prophets.
So how can we distinguish false prophets? Rev. Martyn Lloyd-Jones speaks of the following characters of false prophets: silent about the justice and wrath of God, silent about judgment and hell, silent about the evilness of sin, silent about the need for repentance, silent about holy life, and silent about the dangers of self-deception. In short, a false prophet is not a person who preaches the word according to God's will, but a person who chooses only words that humans desire to hear.
However, if we look at the Bible, there is no real servant of God, and no one has delivered a message that is easy for people to hear. Jesus speaks bitterly to recognize false prophets by their fruit. He says a terrifying word that “every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.” This is the message of eschatological judgment.
The three parables that appear today all have the premise that there must be judgment. After all, the Sermon on the Mount is the eschatological proclamation of Jesus.
Those Who Do The Will of Heavenly Father (verses 21-23)
If the previous warning from the Lord is for Christian leaders, the second is for all believers. The second characteristic of a wise person is someone who does the will of the Heavenly Father.
Jesus says ““not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven.” We learn that these people also drive out demons and perform many miracles in the name of the 'Lord’. To summarize, there was a confession with the mouth, and even the power of faith appeared on them.
But the problem is that the Lord says ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
Because they did not do the Father’s will.
Then, what does it mean to do the will of the Father?
It is to produce beautiful fruit from the previous parable. Bearing beautiful fruit is to do the will of Father. Then, what is the beautiful fruit, what is it that does the Father's will?
We will summarize this by looking at the third characteristic of the wise person.
What I want to point out here is the fact that declaring ‘Lord, Lord’, prophesying in the name of the Lord, driving out demons and performing many miracles are not doing the will of God.
Of course, the above three are the ability and results that appear to those who do the Father's will. But just because such things happen does not mean all of them are doing the will of Heavenly Father.
The One Who Builds a House on the Rock (verses 24-27)
The third characteristic of a wise person is the one who builds his/her house on the rock. This analogy is too real. If a building is not built with a strong foundation, in most cases it will collapse in the event of an earthquake or even in a slight crisis. In Jesus' parable, the three kinds of disasters, the rain, the streams, and the winds, mean the tribulations that come from time to time in life. But ultimately, it means the perfect judgment to come in the last days. It is a judgment that all inevitable humanity must face, personally a death and the end of the world (Jesus' Second Coming) as a whole.
So what is building a house on a rock? After all, this is producing beautiful fruit, and doing the will of our Heavenly Father. Ultimately, the three characteristics of the wise are one.
What is it then? It is well stated in verse 24. Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice.
The first characteristic of a wise person is to distinguish false prophets, and the way to distinguish them is by their fruit.
The fruit is Faith in the Word. Therefore, we must listen to the Word. This is why the doctrine comes first. But with doctrine alone, it is a dead faith. There must be deeds that follow. However, it is meaningless to have only works without doctrine.
Martin Luther said the virtues of pagan (not believing in Jesus) are nothing more than splendid vices. Building something based on one's good deeds or one's own righteousness is called sa-sang-nu-gak (沙上樓閣) or house of cards meaning house built on sand. Houses on the sand will surely fall. If it does not fall on this earth, it will fall on that day, on the last day, on the day when it rains and the streams rise, the day when the wind blows, that is the day of judgment.
Therefore, we must first listen to the Words of Jesus. And the life of obedience must follow. Jesus speaks. It is the wise person who builds a house on the rock, but what is the rock?
For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ
(1 Corinthians 3:11)
That's right. The rock is the words of Jesus, narrowly the words of the Sermon on the Mount, and fundamentally Jesus Christ Himself.
This is the conclusion of the Sermon on the Mount.
Let's read verse 24. Life based on the Word! This is for real!
Things we like to do? Jesus says “I never knew you”. It's nothing but self-satisfaction.
For we the believers living in the end times, what God wants from us is to become wise.
A wise person will set apart false prophets, produce beautiful fruits, and build houses on the rock. Ultimately, the wise is the one who first hears the words of Jesus, and after hearing them, obey and act accordingly. Let us all build holy houses on the rock of Jesus Christ!
